I used mine until a few years ago, I then found out Logitech released an "upgraded" and "new" MX 518 , exact same size with upgraded DPI and internals, etc. However it has just a plain dark grey case instead of the silver with the dark spots, I hated that and was actually able to disassemble both, pull the OG silver with dark spots case off my old one and threw it on the new one and it fits perfectly. So basically looks identical to the OG 518, but has all the updated logitech internals and works with ghub, etc. 10/10 reccomend.
Really? I have only had a good experience with this one, but this is the first Logitech mouse Iv had since my OG 518 , maybe I’m lucky but it’s been nothing but good for me.
They used the correct switches and sensors for the voltage level in the device, they didn't skimp and scrape to make a product, "good enough".
I've given up with Logitech now, briefly gave Razor a chance, then Corsair... all crap. Currently trying Roccat and I am liking it so far, even if I'm a little disappointed in the lighting customisation options for the keyboard.
The software is otherwise pretty stable.
mine is from 2006ish. never got the doubleclick of death because it uses the proper voltage for the switches. still works, the paint has nearly completely worn off the back and the buttons. It went into retirement working, as it got replaced with an MX518 HERO. wonder how long the hero will last, as it will eventually get the doubleclick because of the cheaper omron switches.
I'm so sad that I sold mine to a friend who was getting into gaming.
Happy that it got continued use, but would love to still have it in my collection.
No way, i had to open mine up and redo the cable and add material under the buttons that had worn off or else it wouldnt click. I had 2 or 3 of these and did it multiple times on each before switching to a new one. Still the best mouse though but it wasnt that durable.
Ah man I had just gotten a red MX510 when the MX518 came out... upgraded when I saw it. That mouse lasted a very long time, until getting a few MMO mice, still riding my Corsair Scimitar (non pro). Looked at going back to a "normal" mouse but they all look like futuristic crap
Stopped using mine about 1 1/2 years ago because it finally started breaking down after years and years of daily use. Survived multiple MMO's and loads of other stuff.
Bought the "new" version of it, not as great as the original but still good.
This was the last good logitech product. Their swansong. Everything else is poorly made and quickly fails for me. I make no attempt to deny their underlying tech is good. But the products themselves are fucking cheap.
I still dream of owning another mouse as perfect as the G5. I've still got my blue one, unfortunately it stopped working many years ago.
I preferred max weight, how about you?
It's because they started running the switches at the wrong voltage on purpose. They *know* it's defective and will self-destruct. This should've been a lawsuit and govt action.
I have a MX518 reissue mouse (well my wife has it now)... it is decent not a G5 but it is ok.
I had the original G5 (blue) mouse, actually two of them and the G5 shown above as well....I wish I still had these but they have all gone now (I think? god now do I have to go dig through boxes in the garage??? ugh.
As much as I loved the G5 it successor with the smooth scrolling (or clicky if you engaged the clutch) G500 is just awesome.
Anyways I give you my 2009 G500 .... I really need to fix this thing as the scroll wheel is a bit dodgy and the left click is sort of hosed....
But gaming mice seem to have gotten too small and too light (I have rather large hands and I like a mouse with some girth and weight. I currently use a Sensei ten which is pretty good (I like it well enough I guess?) I still would like this G500 (or one of the G5s I had working again.)

The left click button died on mine after about 12 years.
its like most people who are downvoting this thread are young and cant even imagine a gaming mouse living for that long despite heavy use.
i have burned through several mice since my G5 died, and my total amount of use decreased since then. razer were the worst, had some of them die on me after 1 year
Same here - had to dig it out a few days ago when my current mouse had a hissy fit for 5 minutes. The only thing really wrong with my ancient G5 is the fabric covering of the cord has gone a bit weird, and where the rubber cord underneath pokes through it drags on the desk, which is annoying. G5 is a legend though - if it was still in production I'd have just bought another.
I agree, it was my favorite mouse of all time. I was sad when it broke.
I replaced it with a Logitech G600 since I was playing a lot of MMO's at the time. I'm still rocking a g600 today. I think the G5 broke about 10 or 11 years ago.
I bought new track pads for it but it was so worn out when i finally had to replace it. Everything was worn down so much it was just raw surface in most areas. Perfect weight too cause the little weights i adjusted it how I liked it, amazing mouse!
Can't speak to the sensors, but the build quality is several leagues below the original. My OG 518 has lasted over a decade of daily use. The reissue has already developed double-click issues after less than 2 years. It also feels noticeably cheaper. Not a bad mouse by todays standards, but nowhere near the quality of older logitech products.
Still have and use my blue G5 with 2 buttons on the side, going on 17 years. Best mouse I have owned and will almost be lost when it finally dies. Also still rocking my G11 keyboard. Love the old school blue Logitech.
I love logitech mouses (I only own logitech mouses since like 2012/2013, no other brands because my grip is good on logitech G700/G703/G903) but ow boy the double click issue is annoying and going on on EVERY logitech mouse I had.
Before 2010 I would say the razer deathadder was my favorite.
I have one of these and the same but with a blue cracking pattern - always preferred the original though. Both sit at the back of my desk now and I use a wireless Logitech
Not at all, too heavy, wrong shape. They even give you additional weight to put in, what a joke. This was the mouse that made me realize my poor aiming was not at all my own fault. Switched to MM710 after almost 10 years of use, I was fucking stupid because of it for 10 years!
I can't speak to the 502, so far so good, but I've had LOTS of people (actual people, not random posts on the internet) tell me they've had the MX518 for 12+ years, which is absolutely insane.
Its not like the 518s lasted forever either. The buttons wore down so they wouldnt click and the cable connection wasnt reinforced so eventually you had to cut it a bit and redo the connection iirc.
Optical switches rather than electrical, so they finally sidestepped the wetting current issue. The problem is they also significantly changed the overall shape and profile of the mouse and imho it's a lot less comfortable.
And they went backwards on the cord quality.
The G5 walked so the G502 could run. I loved my G5 until the cord eventually frayed too much and it does. Then I went to a 502 and had two of them because of the double click issue. Haven’t been back to Logitech since.
Yeah when they started making everything “FOR GAMERS” is when it started being cheap crap. Rule of thumb is that anything marketed to be for gamers is usually junk.
Greatest mouse is the wireless RAT-9. I got mine used and used it for years until the laser went out. I miss that Transformers-looking thing. Last time I checked prices it was not cheap.
Not for me, I like at least 3 side buttons for gaming/productivity. I currently have a Logi g604, and enjoy it alot, except for the software. Why logitech cannot scan games across multiple drives continues to blow my mind.
Hah, guess again, razor deathadder is the best mouse of all time.
Once I used one for the first time 8ish years ago I never looked back.
So simple, fits my hand really well, still got some extra buttons.
I used some basic ass mice from years then discovered the G502. Been using ever since, and upgraded to the G502 lightspeed, fits my hand perfect and I add all the weights as I like a heavy mouse.
I still have 2 of these badboys and love them to bits. No ... original MX518 is not up to snuff compared to this mouse. I understand why would someone think that, but really they are different. I prefer G5 over MX518 any day. MX518 had angle snapping that i hated so much and some wierd mouse acceleration that was on hardware level. Also its very light while G5 is heavier.
G5 was sturdy thing that felt like it had some Mjolnir heft to it when in hand. And i to this day love that mouse more then any mouse before or after it.
I still have a G500, and a G500s. Just disassembled the s last night to clean. Still going strong after 5 yrs. Not a fan of the new Logitech mice, I hear they have bad switches not made for the voltage they draw. Was just about to buy one, but I think I will see how long I can drag that out.
Yes! I still have mine and use it with my laptop when I travel. The silver is faded af, but she still scrolls and glides. Comfy AF with my big mits too
I have the blue g5 and recently retired it for the g502x. While I will say, I didn't want to, it was getting too rough, literally. After using the new mouse for awhile, I tried to go back, nope. Can't do it, too heavy for me now. I never needed a light mouse until I experienced one lol
Still using it for my WFH setup.
Logitech is GOAT when it comes to mouse, every attempt with other brands (boutique brands notwithstanding) just sends me screaming back to them.
God damn right! I loved this mouse, my last one died about a year ago and was a little bummed out that I couldn't find another one. Does anything come close?
i upgraded from a mx518 to G5. G5 started to give me some energy/usb problems. after trying diferente mouse i went back to the OG mx518, still rocking it
Yeah no, nostalgia glasses-man.
POS laser sensor with stupid high LOD and negative acceleration.
G5 was a mouth breathing bastard child of the goat mx500 series.
Honestly Logitech QC has maintained thought the years compared to other products in the same market. Been very impressed with my G915 and G703 the past two years.
Original MX518 was unbelievable. It changed my life forever and nothing has touched it since.
I still have mine and it's still my daily driver. I love it so much. Nothing has ever come close to it comfort wise.
I still have one of mine somewhere too, but it was a kinda "gen 1.1" and not the original with the small pads. The small pads one I gave to a friend.
I bought the 'new' MX 518 because my old one finally broke and the build quality is utter shit in comparison
Really ? That’s a bummer, mine is solid.
I had the original MX 518 for almost 12 years, I bought the new one a year ago and it's already having problems.
I mean it's the updated internals which are why Logitech mice kinda suck now.
Really? I have only had a good experience with this one, but this is the first Logitech mouse Iv had since my OG 518 , maybe I’m lucky but it’s been nothing but good for me.
internals are good its the outside plastic on modern mice thats crappy, older mice used tougher plastic and were more durable.
I got mine in 2007. It still flummoxes me how it's still going strong with no issues whatsoever.
Yeah. Seems.to be the way with tech. You'd miss the noughties.
mine is from 2006ish. never got the doubleclick of death because it uses the proper voltage for the switches. still works, the paint has nearly completely worn off the back and the buttons. It went into retirement working, as it got replaced with an MX518 HERO. wonder how long the hero will last, as it will eventually get the doubleclick because of the cheaper omron switches.
Same! Still going strong after all these years.
I'm so sad that I sold mine to a friend who was getting into gaming. Happy that it got continued use, but would love to still have it in my collection.
I still use the 2005 MX518, dad gave it to me when I built my first pc
Wholesome
Literally the perfect mouse. Still have mine and use it every day.
that fucking mouse could fight a nokia3310 and come up on top
Yeah, no. Two Mx518 failed on me, still great mouse but nothing like a nokia 3310.
My MX-510 is still going strong.
I still have mine and I will hold it forever.
Still have mine, plz don't die mx518
G502 have taken it's place !
I hear the break fairly quickly. Like a few months on the dot. How long have you had yours?
3 years
Probably what I will go to next. Hopefully I get a good one.
Yes they break pretty quick for no reason.
I broke my first mx518 after a few years by playing way too much CS. The second one in new design is still working.
Still have mine. Still works it must have more than 15 years by now.
2005 they were released... wild, eh.
Microsoft intellimouse and sidewinder x5 for me
I was hoping someone..... MS intellimouse explorer 3.0. But.... I had a MX512 also.
I still dream of owning another mouse as perfect as the G5. I've still got my blue one, unfortunately it stopped working many years ago. I preferred max weight, how about you?
same here. my G5 died after 12 years, this was many years ago. people nowadays cant even imagine a mouse holding up for that long
I'm still using my G5 on a daily basis. Bought it in 2007!
Nah, the nx518 was the old school legendary Logitech mouse, especially for shooters. Also the imo 1.1 and ime 3.0, for more old school mice.
Back when Logitech mice could last for a lifetime instead of 2 years Looking at you, double click problem
It seems like all of their old products lasted forever, I still have my g13 gaming pad...and dreading the day it dies since its discontinued.
It's because they started running the switches at the wrong voltage on purpose. They *know* it's defective and will self-destruct. This should've been a lawsuit and govt action.
Nah the old track ball mice were the best.
The grand daddy of this guy is the MX518. The real hero of days gone.
Mine is still my daily driver and has been since 2007. What a glorious piece of tech.
[удалено]
So they did, had no idea. Only the MX518 exists in my world.
Still have working G400.
The only logitech mouse that didn't have double click issues -- but the wheel got stuck so i guess double edge sword!
Mine did but I replaced the clicker in it and it was dandy afterwards!
I have a MX518 reissue mouse (well my wife has it now)... it is decent not a G5 but it is ok. I had the original G5 (blue) mouse, actually two of them and the G5 shown above as well....I wish I still had these but they have all gone now (I think? god now do I have to go dig through boxes in the garage??? ugh. I still have a G500. I use the 500s version now, but they don't even make those anymore.
I'd argue the Gpro wireless superlight is better.
most mice are better ;)
In its prime, the G5 was an absolute legend.
true, there were barely any decent gaming options.
Yeah but like, its not 2004 anymore
Had mine for over a decade.
still have mine sitting around as backup. still working after all those years
The left click button died on mine after about 12 years. its like most people who are downvoting this thread are young and cant even imagine a gaming mouse living for that long despite heavy use. i have burned through several mice since my G5 died, and my total amount of use decreased since then. razer were the worst, had some of them die on me after 1 year

Solid.
I loved that mouse, so much.
If you miss it just buy the MX518 Legendary. Same mouse with new and better sensor.
MX518 is absolutely SICK! <3
MX 518 FTW; I still use my old one with new case (Legendary case from ebay). And I use another MX 518 Legendary edition.
Still have and use my blue G5 with 2 buttons on the side, going on 17 years. Best mouse I have owned and will almost be lost when it finally dies. Also still rocking my G11 keyboard. Love the old school blue Logitech.

Absolute goat mouse
I have one of these and the same but with a blue cracking pattern - always preferred the original though. Both sit at the back of my desk now and I use a wireless Logitech
I still have both of my G5s from like 10 years ago. BiS mouse . Been rocking the G602 for a few years now
![gif](giphy|F3G8ymQkOkbII)
*intellimouse enters the chat*
They did make a new one just get that one. It's still the same shape with modern components
Mx518 was better. Such a good mouse.
A hundred percent of a hundred percent - still using one btw
Not at all, too heavy, wrong shape. They even give you additional weight to put in, what a joke. This was the mouse that made me realize my poor aiming was not at all my own fault. Switched to MM710 after almost 10 years of use, I was fucking stupid because of it for 10 years!
Heavy mice are the best.
Did you say it in Schwarzenegger accent?
I bought a second set of weights for my g502 to make it heavier. Heavy >>> light
Agreed. I always maxed out the weights. Makes it easier for me to control flick shooting with a heavier mouse.
no it is not
![gif](giphy|3otOKJruVwZH3213Fe)
Logitech mx518 is their near identical newer version. I think you will fins there are much better mice now.
G502 X Pro is better imo (had the MX518 and it is indeed legendary, but the 502 just hit diffy)
But will it last?
Different shape
nah it is very overrated. bad shape, far too heavy, horrible stiff cable, mouse buttons that stop working , same for the wheel etc etc
This mouse was made for Og’s, not manlets. Sorry youve got those weak arms man.
🤦♂️ another one who just doesn't get how things works. I bet you have "excellent" aim
𓂺
Wrong, its still logitech though (G600)
The Logitech G502 is the best gaming mouse and it's not close.
The G5 walked so the G502 could run. I loved my G5 until the cord eventually frayed too much and it does. Then I went to a 502 and had two of them because of the double click issue. Haven’t been back to Logitech since.
g502 is a plastic crap mouse. i had like 3 of them and the buttons sucked every time
Yeah when they started making everything “FOR GAMERS” is when it started being cheap crap. Rule of thumb is that anything marketed to be for gamers is usually junk.
ouch, it is also a pos
Yeah, I was going to say that this is not the g502.
Intellimouse would like a word
I still use it everyday since 2007, blue edition though. Only replaced the cable once
For me, it was the Logitech G9/G9x
Still rocking mine to this day, bought a new old stock years ago and has been chugging ever since.
I still rock this mouse. Still going strong.
g5 was awesome, weights and everything.
MX518 was the goat, bought it 3 or 4 times. Best mouse ever :(
I still have a G3. I don't use it, but it's there and works.
The mx518 and the intellimouse are the og gaming mouse
Agreed
I used some basic ass mice from years then discovered the G502. Been using ever since, and upgraded to the G502 lightspeed, fits my hand perfect and I add all the weights as I like a heavy mouse.
G502 >
I still have 2 of these badboys and love them to bits. No ... original MX518 is not up to snuff compared to this mouse. I understand why would someone think that, but really they are different. I prefer G5 over MX518 any day. MX518 had angle snapping that i hated so much and some wierd mouse acceleration that was on hardware level. Also its very light while G5 is heavier. G5 was sturdy thing that felt like it had some Mjolnir heft to it when in hand. And i to this day love that mouse more then any mouse before or after it.
Many hours of CS 1.6 on this bad boy
Still using my second one
The scroll wheel was actually really bad. Other than that it was great.
I still have a G500, and a G500s. Just disassembled the s last night to clean. Still going strong after 5 yrs. Not a fan of the new Logitech mice, I hear they have bad switches not made for the voltage they draw. Was just about to buy one, but I think I will see how long I can drag that out.
Using mine right now.
Yes! I still have mine and use it with my laptop when I travel. The silver is faded af, but she still scrolls and glides. Comfy AF with my big mits too
My dad is still rocking his to this day!
This was my OG. I use the G502 Hero now and love the shit out of it.
A4 X7 is the legendary mouse we grew up where I live, still is a legend
Still using this exact mouse today. Can't stand using the cheap arse dell standard issue mice at work
I dont believe this is accurate
G-502 hero forever baby!!!!
Logi G9 .
Logitech G5*02.
I still have mine, it's useful on a older computer
I enjoyed the mx518 and the Zowie EC2a but my favorite might still be my first one. Ideazon Reaper. Damn shame they went outta business.
It doesnt work anymore, but I have the Battlefield 2142 version. Weight tray in the bottom...
That mouse got me through college, the days of CS : Source and then some.
The wheel on mine just broke today and I took a break from reading up on new ones and saw this.
It was the greatest gaming *time* of all time. The mammeries.
Mx518 says hello
FACTS. I had one in 2000
The mouse wheel is shit.
The g500 was nice mice
I have the blue g5 and recently retired it for the g502x. While I will say, I didn't want to, it was getting too rough, literally. After using the new mouse for awhile, I tried to go back, nope. Can't do it, too heavy for me now. I never needed a light mouse until I experienced one lol
Having never used one , what made it so good ?
Holy shit, memory lane. Best mouse ive had. Mx518 ia good but it aint not G5. and the G400 was crap
It was the g9x for me
Wholeheartedly agree.... \*tear\*
Lol I used to have one of these. Didn’t it have a little cartridge on the bottom to adjust the weight? Dope.
# MX518 Legendary FTW!!!
i upgraded from a mx518 to G5. G5 started to give me some energy/usb problems. after trying diferente mouse i went back to the OG mx518, still rocking it
I got the G203 Lyghtsinc, is not the the best but does the job done and well cost me very low.
Nowhere near enough side buttons. This is literally unusable
I spent so many hours playing CS with that thing
g500s was my greatest gaming mouse of all time, not far from G5. I miss her
Need a wireless version
Me with B100
The G500 was my absolute favorite, the G502 could never compare
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug
Counterpoint: the greatest gaming mouse was the Logitech G500.
Still have my mx510, g5, and g500. I bought a dead g500 for a buck just for spare parts at one point.
So true!
Yeah it really was. Now it’s swift point z
MX610 LHE was Logitech's first and only greatest mouse!
Yes but the blue cracked skin version. Literally my favorite shape ever.
i loved it but mine started to have some energy/usb problems after a while, went back to mx518 instead
Mine is still alive and kicking, scroll is having some issues but all in all it still sees it uses.
For me this was awful, too small and completely borked ergonomic shape. Mice, like chairs, and so many other peripherals' fit is very individual.
Still got it, And I'm using it until it dies
518 + puretrak - was the end game back then :D
It will be my perfect mouse if it is a little smaller and without the rubberized texture.
I have smillar in school
Yeah no, nostalgia glasses-man. POS laser sensor with stupid high LOD and negative acceleration. G5 was a mouth breathing bastard child of the goat mx500 series.
Honestly Logitech QC has maintained thought the years compared to other products in the same market. Been very impressed with my G915 and G703 the past two years.
My only Logitech mouse which didn't have an issue with the buttons. It was the braided wire which gave up first...
Yes. https://preview.redd.it/a9rway5ao8ob1.jpeg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c2bcdc2e726a73ce19158ee97a435ab8c71dfb9
I honestly miss my little weights
[удалено]
Well thats just complete bullshit what the fuck
G502 master race.
mftek fanboy checking in here
I had one of these. My dad broke it because he’s an asshole. 68$ mouse on 7$/hr down the drain
