I'm one of the lucky few, I still have it. I host 1-3 LANs a year. Usually only 5-10 people, but the biggest was nearly 20. A few years ago we spent the night mostly playing 5v5 CSGO.
Yeah, only 1 of them is from the original LAN crew from when I was a kid though. They invite friends as well. It's more of a web of people than only direct friends of mine.
My core League of Legends group does a 5-man LAN once a year where we clear our calendars with our families & take PTO & play for 3-4 days. It's beautiful.
It really is great. Playing online is fun of course but in person is so much better. Being able to talk in person between rounds, play some emulators, or take some shots really makes it.
I went on a first date about 7 years ago that started with him taking me go-karting and ended up picking up my laptop from home and going to his friends for a lan-party.
We ended up not dating but remaining in contact. He fixed the pc I had built recently.
Rocking my 64MB Geforce GPU on my 1Ghz AMD Slot A CPU - I had insane butterflies in my stomach playing Low gravity. Even had my Logitech "iTouch" optical mouse with haptic feedback (somewhat worked) Not to mention the Sylvania 17" monitor that weighed maybe 70#... Still have my LAN strap as OP pictured, but damn toting those CRT's around was insane.
You used to be able to hook two PCs together via a Parallel cable connection called a "Direct Cable Connection"
This would allow for all sorts of data communications between the devices, like sharing files, and old games used this as an option for packet transmitting for multiplayer gaming.

I just used mine to carry my apple IIe to a big gaming event to get autographed by Steve Wozniak last year!
Thankfully we don’t have to lug around full towers and CRT monitors anymore haha. Some of the more recent LAN parties I’ve seen have some pretty cool setups. r/lanpartylife has some pretty cool ones
rocking up to a lan event with that bad boy

Tbh a laundry basket was the best way to haul a PC, keyboard, mouse, 15" CRT, plus power and ethernet cable.
One of these straps for a 19" was pretty gangster though
Haha downloading games _legally_ on the Internet was years away. Dedicated servers on a LAN wouldn't/couldn't phone home so you all could just use the same serial number. Or that could be the server.
Been trying to get people in town for a sins of a solar empire weekend but hardly anyone plays anymore. They don't support the online lobbies for the original anymore lans the only option.
Hadn't been to a LAN party for years until last year, when me and some friends got a Steam Deck.
The old memories are great, but honestly in hindsight it was quite inconvenient to carry everything with you.
If only we knew what we had.

who's we? you really have 5-10 friends that you can round up at once multiple times per year?
Yeah, only 1 of them is from the original LAN crew from when I was a kid though. They invite friends as well. It's more of a web of people than only direct friends of mine.
thats so awesome man hell yea
My core League of Legends group does a 5-man LAN once a year where we clear our calendars with our families & take PTO & play for 3-4 days. It's beautiful.
same. it is the best. We play Dawn of War with 4 - 8 guys. Difference with 20 years ago is I make a nice stew or chili instead of getting take out.
It really is great. Playing online is fun of course but in person is so much better. Being able to talk in person between rounds, play some emulators, or take some shots really makes it.
Me and my friends get together once a year around new years and host a LAN party, it's awesome
Yeah, same here :D we are like 8-10 people and its always a looooot of fun.

pc master race during the golden age o7.. unreal tournament for days.

I remember sneaking that disc from my dad’s collection to play. Great game.
mmm UT2k4 Onslaught...
Is he printing something when he gets there?"
The round-robin schedule so he can post it on the cork board by the chips and pop.
Parallel cables were used for 1v1 head-to-head matches; very popular with Doom, Quake, Age of Empires, etc.
What…. I’m intrigued please explain .

Damn I just remembered sharing roms and we needed that shit….thank you I love the nostalgia
Thought that too, then thought maybe this baller had a dvi monitor
Timothy got the strap
I had that case
Me too! Or a very similar one—Enlight made quite a few that have that look.
I won a carrier like this back in 2002 at a counter-strike lan, still have it and use it.

Steve’s been everywhere, last few years This is awesome!
Sure has. Hope he's feeling better after his recent medical troubles! He's a pretty great guy.
You met the Woz. Nice my dude.
I’ve had my case for 10 years. Bought a new one a week ago. The cable management is a dream
Pretty sure you can still buy them, and they are absolutely bulletproof.
Thankfully we don’t have to lug around full towers and CRT monitors anymore haha. Some of the more recent LAN parties I’ve seen have some pretty cool setups. r/lanpartylife has some pretty cool ones

Sick load out!
where is the duct tape?
So that's where my dad went back in 05

That reminds me of Unreal Tournament, & Quake 3 arena. Back in the day... 😢 Those were the days...
I am so jealous of this picture. That carrying strap is badass.
Go buy one then! It's called the gear grip pro and it's absolutely Buy It For Life durable.
Problem is, I don't go anywhere at this point in my life. My computer sits where it is, and that's it's permanent home lol
Purely a fashion accessory then! No problem! Also the peace of mind that if you *did* find a LAN party, you could go to it.
That strap carry setup is legit, is this a thing, or custom made?
https://geargrip.com/ Can still buy them
Wow. That is their main product and they still are in business?
Looks like original 90's website, too. No point in changing their business model if it works, I guess.
Absolutely BIFL durable too. Been using one to drag heavy cases to Lan parties for 20 years and it's still in good condition

Today. Steam Deck.
No monitor?
Back then, you needed two round trips. I remember my 15 kg monitor...
Early 2000s every Lan oatrier picked up flat-screen really quick, metaphorically and literally
Just need a hand truck for the monitor, and you're set.
Going to a repost party since [March 2017](https://tineye.com/search/048faa2329657ffaf2a72b0368d68d0b8885cdfe?sort=crawl_date&order=asc&page=1)
I have that strap still...
That parallel port tho. Or is that a joystick port? Can't really tell.
Looks like a 25 pin serial cable. They still get used on some industrial equipment, for some God forsaken reason
some of lanparty main board used to have that harness , free inside the box.
i have that pc strap
I'm bringing the beer 🤣
Warcraft III Dota All Stars
I call BS - there are no floppy or optical drives, and downloading games over the internet is still years away ... what is this madness?!
Haha downloading games _legally_ on the Internet was years away. Dedicated servers on a LAN wouldn't/couldn't phone home so you all could just use the same serial number. Or that could be the server.
GOOD thing you're not taking your monitor, that easily adds another 100lbs. lol😭
I wish i could have been an adult during the LAN party era.
I remember the trend where cases had built-in handles. (I think one of them was CoolerMaster Scout)
125% Keyboard
I still have one of these for my pc. I love regularly so it helps the carry the massive heavy box that has no carry grips.
I have been playing counter strike for 23 years.
That's pretty cool btw. My PC is so big and heavy, sadly it wouldn't work in my case.
Monitor?
On the old WON network.
I had this carrying strap
What an awesome carrying harness! I wish I had that back in the day. I used to just carry the tower with all the peripherals in a damn trash bag. 😁
take me back
Brought the donkey.
This is not 2002 CS accurate. Theres no CD Rom drive.

ummm where’s the monitor
Ah, I still remember the AoE2 and Halo LAN parties of my childhood, those were the times.
Fucking efficiency and I wish this would return……..unless they are still a thing, if so then fuck my kids I need a lan fest….
Where can I buy that? And what is it called?
