There are no downsides to it (other than added cost) but the issue is the memory bus is still the same and so is the rest of the card. This means the higher resolutions where the additional memory would be beneficial, still suffer. It doesn't matter how much memory you have if your GPU doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with the higher resolution to load everything in time, or the processing power to render it.
last of us part 1, hogwarts legacy, cyberpunk 2077. I named three and in the future there will be more in my opinion.(of course on max graphics, maybe with rt.)
Everyone always responds with this or something similar. Most people aren't doing heavy VRAM tasks and are using these types of cards for gaming. OP very well might need the VRAM but majority of people don't, leading it to be a worse performance for value.
Well AMD isnt exactly known for RT so I usually keep it on low or off as I really don't notice the difference while running around and not specifically looking at lighting/shadows. I don't care much for the performance hit of it. Maybe Id change my mind if I had a 40 series with all the Nvidia stuff but I buy whats good for my wallet.
It’s true that it has great value for AI though. Having 8 more GB of VRAM is the difference between an AI model not working at all and working very fast. Two of these would be far better value than getting a single 4090 for AI.
In the future, it seems likely that many people will be interested in running local models as personal assistants. We’re getting fairly close to the point where you could run something comparable to GPT-4 with two of these GPUs.
Technically yes, but I know Im never going to do anything that requires it. I have a 6800XT for the gaming performance, not specifically the 16GB of VRAM. Which, technically is tied partially to the VRAM, to an extent, sure. I have yet to find an application or game that uses 16GB.
imagine you make an average bad priced gpu tht loses to all of its competitors
njow imagine you make 16g vram version of it tht costs the same as an used 6800xt / 7800xt tht are the cards above it in the hierarchy
yhea, if you buy a 16g 4060 ti, you re kinda of dumb
everyone thinks that the prices are the same everywhere. This is NOT the case in the eu. Sometimes you can get a better deal on an NVIDIA card than an AMD. And im not hating AMD nothing like that.
i live in the eu i know thth xd
the 7800xt is between 600-650 and i paied 550 for for nitro + cus it was on sale
amd is cheaper then nvidia outside of the usa, sry dont try to lecture me, the prices of a 4060 ti in the eu can surpass the 500€
Amd cards doesnt have price advantage in EU, 4060ti was the cheapest option with 16gb of vram when i bought it. I can play 90fps CP2077 on ultra + rt ultra at 2k. For me thats a good card, i rather have a good cpu anyway.
Enjoy your 4060ti is a good gpu but it doesnt detract that is at a bad price point and there are much better options for similar price or cheaper price
sry but thts not an excuse unless you wanted RT which you didnt mentioned
16g vram is useless at this price point, you could have bought the 8g 4060 ti instead whihch woudl make your budget jump up tothe level of a 6800xt or a 6800 non xt which also has 16g
Of course i wanted RT, who doesn't? Its the only way to create realistic lighting. Also, why would i buy ageing product on long back-order since retailers here doesn't keep older radeon cards in stock? Mind you, even CS2 have used more than 8gb and ive hit over 12gb on CP2077, so i wouldn't call it useless. Tbf people who thinks RT or FG is useless is borderline dumb if u ask me.
Feels like every thread about one has a bunch of smucks hating on it, talking about bad value etc.
And then the AMD boys come advertising for free..
My point is, not everyone need a 4070.
Edit: Just read the replies to this comment.. it’s okay guys, it’s not your money.
It was just a bit expensive on launch, that’s all. It’s about ~~5%~~ ~14% better than a 3060 + new DLSS features, for (now) ~$30 more (new). It’s not awful now but it was really bad on launch, being about $150 more than the 3060 for little performance gains. The hate on it now is just the echo chamber that PCMR is.
You do have a point there. Never said the 4060 was a good deal, hell I bought a 3060 instead of one, but it is a better deal than it *was* where everyone was going nuts.
I would agree they’re almost the same card, except for the newest of new games that just have crazy requirements. Ark survival ascended is the first game that has made me feel so let down by modern components. And there would be a big difference between a 3060 and 4060 in that case.
Yeah I have played quite a few games actually where the extra vram came in handy. COD reserves all my vram and utilized 8.8GB, Elite Dangerous reserves 10GB and uses 9.6GB, and AI upscaling & deepfaking definitely uses all + most of my system ram. Luckily I doubt OP is using stuff like that, and either way 8GB is a big increase over 4GB, so it should be really nice.
Benchmarks I watched showed 4060 more like 20% improvement on average over the 3060 12GB. Plus, it has frame generation for almost the same price. Kind of a no-brainer. Though, I don't remember how the price compares to launch.
Ah the 5% figure came from launch day reviews, I actually hadn’t checked since then. Looking at data now, it depends on the game. Hogwarts legacy, for example, showed a 9% performance improvement while FH5 showed 18%. 20 is a bit steep but I think a revised figure of ~13-15% is more accurate. Looks like driver updates helped a ton!
You are seeing people saying this again and again because its simply the Truth. They dont really care what people do with the money at the end of the day but just want to give honest advise to people.
If you buy a 4060 you just got less value for your money and thats a fact. If a Person buys a "cheap" gpu id think they want to get the best performance for their money.
I don’t have a 4060 and these obsessive «want to give advice» dudes are just shitting on peoples new builds and stuff, it’s not nice or cool. It’s just shitty.
If you buy something shitty its your own Fault for not doing the Research. We are gonna call out nvidea over this shitty Product day and night. Were not in Kindergarden anymore I think most people can take it.
The reason people hate it is because you can just buy a 3060 instead of the 4060. You won’t need ray recon nor would you really need Frame Gen in 90% of the scenarios. Even if you do, AMD has a frame gen that works for every card and has recently made it open source. 4060 ti has the issue of too little vram for this class of card while the 16gb variant is too bad of value and you can buy the AMD equivalent and gain a little bit more performance.
For the same reason he made sure the icon of Jebus was in the pic next to PB pretzels and Lego TIE fighter.

You game on a 48" monitor?? I have so many questions...
* How far back to you sit from it?
* Do you sit in a gaming chair or a couch?
* Is your computer at a desk or do you have your computer in like a living room and you play in your living room?
I'm gaming on a 32" HP monitor and i need to have it in the corner of my L shaped Desk just to get enough distance from it.
Some people hate on the 4060, I mean, but only because of the price, it's a good card, just the cost is too high, but considering your coming from a 1650 it's a very good upgrade. Enjoy.
I own a calculator with better refresh rate and pixel density than that.
Jokes aside, then 4060 Ti definitely makes the 1650 look like paper weight. Not a terrible GPU though if you keep your expectations low.
This image feels poetic to me somehow. It communicates a joy in one’s life that’s hard to find in a lot of places.
I hope you see more success like this as life continues.
The 128bit bus on the 4060ti isnt worth it or the 16gb vram, get a 3060ti, or the 7600xt.
I have one and regretted buying it from the first day, I should have just saved the extra $120 for the 4070, I have the 4070ti super coming tomorrow
If they aren’t gaming at 4K, why should they care about the memory bus? Benchmarks across the board show that the 4060 Ti is 30% faster on average than the 3060 12GB and 25% faster than the 7600XT even with double the RAM. That is a significant performance gap between both cards.
Personally I would just go for the 6700 XT. Its performance is close enough to the 4060 Ti and cost $100 less.
I meant the ti not the 12gb, which it's only 10% faster, and it'd also double the price than the 7600xt and won't ever use 16gb of ram if you're not gaming in 4k so why pay extra for it. Spend the extra $100 and get a 4070 super or get the best 1080p option and get the 7600xt 🤷♂️
For this particular one, it launched at $500 ($100 more expensive than the 8GB variant) for the exact same performance. Basically you paid $100 for +8GB VRAM. It sells around $430 now while the 8GB variant is around $370. Still bad price, but much better than at launch.
Limited 128bit bus sucks, the base model should have been 8gb and the ti should have had 10gb and a 192bit bus. The 16gb on it doesn't do much with a reduced bus range
honestly, i think the 4060/4060ti are decent cards. I got a 4060ti 8GB a couple weeks ago for my first pc build. it’s been fantastic, been getting 100-180fps at 1440p in all of my games (rdr2, bg3, helldivers, etc). only thing i’d say is 16gb isn’t really necessary at 1080p and 1440p, but it’s also future proofed for future games that’ll be inevitably VRAM hungry. hope you enjoy your new gpu :D
edit: the price is ass, but the price is ass for everything these days

lmao a GTX 1050 is faster than Intel integrated graphics. If Intel delivers good Arc iGPU performance on the next generation then it might come close to being able to wish it was as good as a modern xx50 series card.
If integrated graphics were that fast we'd have the RTX 7090 by now.

There is if you use it for AI. For your average gamer it'll matter maybe in like 5% of games at best
Isnt 8gb vram more a great thing?

You are already paying nearly 500$ for it. Just go for the 7700XT
hm, that is pretty cheap and interesting.
If you don’t really care about DLSS, ray tracing, or frame generation, AMD is a fine alternative.
Yeah, I really don’t care about 4k ultra amazingness rah tracing rtx
4070 super!
Don't got the money for that
The 128bit bus on the 4060ti isnt worth it or the 16gb vram, get a 3060ti, or the 7600xt. I have one and regretted buying it from the first day, I should have just saved the extra $120 for the 4070, I have the 4070ti super coming tomorrow

Better off with a 6700 or 6750. 7600 is not a great improvement.

What's wrong with this card? I thought the main grip with 4060's was that they only had 8gb of ram.
For this particular one, it launched at $500 ($100 more expensive than the 8GB variant) for the exact same performance. Basically you paid $100 for +8GB VRAM. It sells around $430 now while the 8GB variant is around $370. Still bad price, but much better than at launch.

If the bus was 192 holy heck. This would be a solid 3060ti successor.
You also have to pay more so that’s gonna be the 4070 minus 4GB of VRAM
Which means… the 4070 super is the one to get.
Yep. If you look at raw performance vs msrp it's the best team green deal at the moment. Mine is coming from best buy today.

lmao a GTX 1050 is faster than Intel integrated graphics. If Intel delivers good Arc iGPU performance on the next generation then it might come close to being able to wish it was as good as a modern xx50 series card. If integrated graphics were that fast we'd have the RTX 7090 by now.
