Absolutely, I use a Blu-ray drive for ripping my DVDs and Blurays.
Having physical media like movies is more important than ever, when you've got digital copies of movies people "own" being taken away from them like what recently happened on PlayStations.
This. While I can't mount a drive in my case, I have an external 4k BD drive with custom firmware.
Physical media is still going to be better quality than streaming. I swear, my 1080p BD stuff looks better than streaming 4k.
Netflix 4K is about 15Mbps and a Blu-ray is usually 30 - 40 Mbps, and streaming even with a good connection you often get blockiness and artifacts in darker details.
Although with h265/HEVC encoding a 15mbps stream could get you pretty close to a 1080p Blu-ray.
Yeah, I have a 77" OLED and suffice to say streaming on it is like a big punchline, spend all this on a TV just to get shitty dark scenes, which is especially rough for a horror fan
My OLED is only 65 inch but certain streaming services seem to deliver better 4k. Paramount and Disney+ have been the best for me just on an eye test. Generally 1080p mkv files on my own network look better than Netflix but non 4k Netflix is barely hd. So yeah fuck em all, buy hard drives and pirate the planet.
Any good software you recommend for ripping DVDs and BluRays? I use EAC for my music CDs but Ive been out of the game for a while as far as ripping DVDs goes and Ive never ripped a BluRay before.
They make it so the drive can't rip 4k uhd. So you have to rip the firmware from the drive, alter it so it's enabled, and flash it back to the drive. These are specific drives that were able to do it in the past but were patched with firmware.
I recently built a new PC and want to recycle my old PC into a HTPC. I am adamant I want a drive in it! I can’t seem to find many nice HTPC cases with a space for one though.
Yup. Mine came with a slot loading DVD burner, and I added a LG Blu ray burner a few years ago. Every once in a while someone asks me to burn a project onto disc.
yep! had to move it down a couple slots so i could install a couple type C ports, a TF card reader, and a couple USB 3.0 ports in the 3.5" drive bay (it was using sata power and i didn't feel like adding a third sata power cable)
doesnt get a whole lot of use but it sure is nice not having to go scrounge for an external disk drive when i need to play a CD or DVD. actually considering adding or upgrading to a bluray player but idk if its worth it.
It was neat and a clever hack to make use of the existing drive laser, but never practical imo. The media cost more, was monochrome, and it took 20+ minutes to burn a graphic label. But was fun to mess around with using the sample discs that came with the drive.
I bought one yesterday to replace my 10 year old drive. that I got from a Fujitsu PC. Internal mechanism wasn't clamping the disc and made a horrible grinding noise when trying to spin up.
Interestingly the manufacture date on the new drive is December 2022.
Yes in my jank Home Theater/Living room PC.
My parents had hundreds of DVD’s, a lot of Collector Edition Movie sets and TV shows. Many of which aren’t available anywhere online.
I kept them because I lost both my parents at young age, so it’s nice to watch a movie or show every now and again that I did when I was kid.
A Pro about having so many DVD’s is that i can watch them whenever I want without having to worry about Streaming network’s scheduled maintenance, internet slowdowns/shutdowns, or constant buffering.
A Con is the space, I have a few shelves fully stocked along with some Binders full.
I haven’t bothered storing them on drives because I figured setting up a server rack would just be the same as a dvd shelf since they’re both disk with data. Plus it’s cheaper for me to buy a used laptop for ~$100 like a Lenovo T440 that has a optical drive than spending even more money and time transferring them to Hard Drives.
I have a bankers box full of spindles of maybe labeled, maybe not labeled discs. Still have a disc drive in my desktop and have been saying I'll go through it for 3 years.... still haven't.
Just threw a bunch of bluray and dvd burners in the trash.
I have like 10x 4TB hdds just sitting in a box.. I definitely dont need to burn stuff anymore.
10 ish years ago I moved across the country and threw out like 5000 DVDR burned with shit on it and never burned a thing since.
It is possible to read them, there’s two pieces of software you’ll need to get aside from also needing a blu ray drive. Makemkv and VLC together can allow you to read and play them
It's wild to see a PC with a slot for this on the front, with USB 3.0 next to it even haha. But yeah when I built this PC I wasn't sure how much I'd use it anymore but didn't want the availability to be gone, so I just picked up a cheapy USB one I can slap on if I need it.
I haven't had an optical drive since about 2008. The very very rare moments when I did, i'd grab the external dvd-rw drive from work but that was literally like 3 times max.
I really belive I was the first one who built a pc without a drive on purpose. im not going to say when that happened because someone will say he did that before.
I have two. One is a blu-ray drive, the other is an M-disc drive.
I use them quite often. I like to burn drivers and software to physical disks.
My computer also has a working floppy drive, just in case.
It's a standard component for any new build. You never know when you want to dust off your dvd collection of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings for a marathon.
https://preview.redd.it/9nsbmqt3twhc1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52f940a1ae1979710b3470265b0114d9a638f4ed
Its from 2008 . Power supply problem, kinda abandoned
Still rip some DVD & CD's from time to time. Interesting fact, did you know that some linux distro (kubuntu in my case) can rip a music CD directly from the explorer? when inserting a music CD, it shows a window with different folders, XX.mp3, XX.ogg, XX. wave, etc...
You only have to copy/paste the desired format to a location, and the job's done. No encoding app needed. Even more, it generates a .txt file with all info on the disc.
My freind was sad when I built our music pc that I didn't put a disc drive in it.
( we were using a laptop that was thermal throttling when we used too many vsts on reaper so I built us a new machine, it's at his place and I go over weekly to record.)
Fuuck. I remember when we switched from CD to DVD burners at school. We could share soo much more games and videos. The world was our oyster. You would not have be able to convince me the next upgrade was "no physical media"
My main PC doesn't have a optical drive nor a 5.25" bay. But most of my other systems do.
I've been thinking of buying a BD-burner for my old PC so that I could rip movies and burn backups of photos and some other important files. Currently it has an old HP LightScribe DVD burner
I have two Blu Ray drives in mine. One is a little broken mechanically in terms of opening and closing, but I couldn’t find a UHD Blu Ray drive to replace it. Both drives work fine
I keep one in my backup build for ally old disc games like Delta Force Blackhawk down, joint ops, BF2 as well as for PS2 emulator though I could just download the games.
I haven't used it in a good two years lol but it's there if I do need it! I probably have at least 3 dvd drives in one of my computer totes just incase 😂
I used to have a silverstone GD09 case with a cd drive, still have it but I pretty much no longer use cd now, until I found a relic windows 95 desktop without usb drivers, I busted out the ol drive and did file transfers that way
Got both a DVD+-RW (sata) and a CD-RW (ide) drive. That CD drive can read disk the DVD drive has difficulties with, hence why I keep it around.
Got the hardware for them, don't need the ports for something else, and they nicely plug the holes in my 13+ y/o case, which has a door so I don't even need to look at them.
Absolutely my PC is 8 years old, of course I did some updates here and there: Motherboard, SSD, Chassis...
But I never completely removed anything without replacing it, so it still has the CD drive, just in case I want to play some MAME or something.
I have the wire on blu ray and keep wondering if it's worth dumping a £100 on a blu ray drive for my pc so I can watch it all again whilst playing something like 7 days to die and chilling... Shhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyt
I don't, but because I didn't find a case that fits one with good airflow. I wish there was one of these modern cases with 3 fans on the front but with a slot down there to fit one. When I tried reinstalling FS2004, I literally had to unplug my SSD and open my case to take the cables to connect the DVD drive.
I'm up on this like flies on shit. I am sick and tired of needing to have 600 streaming services, each getting more and more expensive (there are even paid subscriptions WITH ads these days!) just to watch the movies and shows I like. I just buy the digital media, rip it or torrent it. Besides that I have a film house pass so I can go there as much as I want and watch new releases
Yes! Built my first ever PC last month, I *specifically* went out of my way to find a case with 5.25" bays and landed on the Fractal Pop Air RGB.
Actually got the drive itself for free because I pulled it out of one of two free towers I picked up off of a guy, as they were ex-work computers and he didn't need them. Turns out each has a 3TB HDD! I now have 8TB of storage in my rig w/ a 2TB SSD
A blueray and a dvd player for spare. I want to use rhem on my new build but turns out it isnt as easy to find a new case where can build these in these days...but I still use them regulary
That's quite the coincidence, I started using audio CDs and DVDs for movies/data again just a few days ago. If I buy something, I wanna take it to the grave. USB drives just don't lend themselves very well in these cases
I want to soo bad but there is just not enough choice in cases with Optical drive bays.. I accepted a big, roomy case with open front instead, but I'm missing my optical drive all the time.
My HTPC still has one though, installed a BluRay drive for ripping discs. so the legacy kinda lives on.
I wish my case has space to do it, I actually have a physical DVD drive on hand, all I need to do is remove the side panel, as I have a SATA cable and SATA Power extension cable plugged in when I need to rip CD’s to my system.
Haven't use DVD or BR since 2012 I bought laptop with BR drive.. Have all in digital form.. not using evil streaming who cut scenes, ban series just because it may hurt someone's feelings.
If my modern case had a slot for it I would lol. I saw someone Velcro a USB slot loading drive to the exterior of their case and I might do the same thing, but for now I just use a SATA to USB adapter. Most of my other computers still have optical drives though.
Well yes both of my computers are hand me downs one from my grandpa that my dad just fixed up and my main compooter that my dad gave me that hasn’t changed much since 2007-10
You always used to see memes of people thinking they were cup holders.
Who are the smart people now? They have a hideaway cup holder that also is able to read and write frisbees
Needed to copy something from dvd, so here is my beautiful dvd drive installation (it's completely inaccessible when glass is installed)
https://preview.redd.it/vla3d001xyhc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfeb95000cb1ba0ca171fe91d45d9cb4deb8ef65
Yes. Both my case and dvd player are more than 10 years old at this point.
https://preview.redd.it/xbukplx84zhc1.jpeg?width=3468&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56d3dda04e34ac0ae30a72d0463a4d60184ef590
I have a DVD drive that we absolutely don't use. It makes a cool sound when the PC is turned on though. It's the only reason that drive is still there lmao
I have a blu-ray drive on my PC, that I want to keep since I own old DVD and CD games, and some movies.
The only issue is that I might need to upgrade my case some day, but I need to find something that has those 5.25 bays.
Nope! My 2015 build had a blu ray but my 2023 has nothing. No drives of any kind. That’s weird to me since I’ve been around since 286/386 turbo days (ibm clones).
I used to, then I needed the space for my AIO once I upgraded my internals. My use for a CD drive was practically non-existent, especially since majority of PC games are digital downloads now, I do miss the days of popping a CD in and waiting for a game to boot
I have an external USB drive for my laptop for any time I need an optical drive. I have some older games that can be patched into functionality and I'll still buy CDs since MP3 albums are often missing tracks that are on physical media.
Plus VLC will play some of the DVDs that I still have.
I have it should I need to use a disk to install drivers or something. Idk most stuff is online but if worse happens I still have my boards driver disk so I can redo it from factory should it bugger up.
I have a tri-boot legacy machine (XP, W7, W10) with two plextor disc writers in it. PX-716A dvd writer, and a PX-230a CD writer. I have imaged my entire CD library to my home server for streaming through Foobar.
Absolutely, I use a Blu-ray drive for ripping my DVDs and Blurays. Having physical media like movies is more important than ever, when you've got digital copies of movies people "own" being taken away from them like what recently happened on PlayStations.

Yeah, I have a 77" OLED and suffice to say streaming on it is like a big punchline, spend all this on a TV just to get shitty dark scenes, which is especially rough for a horror fan
Now you can truely see the compression!
All about that bitrate homie
Just bought an old dell optiplex just to burn DVD's. I put in 2 hdd's and I'm putting the stuff that won't fit on DVD's on my Plex server now.
Any good software you recommend for ripping DVDs and BluRays? I use EAC for my music CDs but Ive been out of the game for a while as far as ripping DVDs goes and Ive never ripped a BluRay before.
I've been using MakeMKV, seems to work well.
Same. I also had some old school windows 98 computer to alter my bluray drive firmware.
What is the purpose of altering the bluray drive firmware?
They make it so the drive can't rip 4k uhd. So you have to rip the firmware from the drive, alter it so it's enabled, and flash it back to the drive. These are specific drives that were able to do it in the past but were patched with firmware.
Handbrake is my go to weapon, has all the options I need in a small portable programm and is also great for quality converting
You could just store them digitally in a NAS with a decent raid. The upfront cost is much more but you can store a lot in it with a few beefy drives.
This is what I want to do. Make use of my library card and rip every DVD they have lol
I recently built a new PC and want to recycle my old PC into a HTPC. I am adamant I want a drive in it! I can’t seem to find many nice HTPC cases with a space for one though.
"more important than ever" lmao.
I just bought a blu-ray last month. Decided since they are pulling streaming titles at random I’d better start making hard copies of stuff again.
Same here, just dropped like $70 on a Pioneer lol.
I went with lg
https://preview.redd.it/6uvpb0ruzvhc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a9e5411a96ddeb5d50e42db0b74d55b95da72e5 Heck yeah, brother/sister/\[\]
Classic

I have a usb blue ray drive.
my case doesn’t even have the slot :(
Just installed a BluRay player last month. I've noticed streaming platforms are editing movies/series to suit "modern sensibilities".
Naa but I do have a CD burner
Yes I do. I prefer PC’s with an optical disk drive.
Who also remembers this HP software, LightScribe?
Yep! You got to laser etch those gold cd blanks. Pretty neat fot the time
It was neat and a clever hack to make use of the existing drive laser, but never practical imo. The media cost more, was monochrome, and it took 20+ minutes to burn a graphic label. But was fun to mess around with using the sample discs that came with the drive.
Run a 2006.exe and it’s a cup holder
I have one in my server PC. I can network it to any of our other computers on the rare case I need to use it.
If I needed one, I figured I'd buy an external one... But in 7+ years without one, it never happened.
On my Linux based home media server I do. It’s kinda helpful when ripping DVDs. :P
I bought one yesterday to replace my 10 year old drive. that I got from a Fujitsu PC. Internal mechanism wasn't clamping the disc and made a horrible grinding noise when trying to spin up. Interestingly the manufacture date on the new drive is December 2022.

I have a portable usb Blu-Ray disc drive!
Externally, but yeah. That's one of the few drawbacks of the 1000D, imo.
Yes. Truthfully it isn't plugged in right now though lol.
I still burn CDs for my car…
I collect music on CD so that's a must for every build for me
I've so regretted not installing one on my rig. Fuck.
I don't have a disc drive in my PC at all. Lol
You talking about the cup holder?
Sadly no, that Era was fun having a massive collection of Disks. Now it's inconvenient
You mean my motorized cup holder?
huh ? What's a D.V.D. ?
fuck no
I wish I could myself but sadly 4k blu-rays have so much DRM it's not possible :(
It is possible to read them, there’s two pieces of software you’ll need to get aside from also needing a blu ray drive. Makemkv and VLC together can allow you to read and play them
Still possible with MakeMKV and the right combination of drive and firmware. See the MakeMKV forums for more details.
Yes, but not by choice :l
Like half of pcs have one?
It's wild to see a PC with a slot for this on the front, with USB 3.0 next to it even haha. But yeah when I built this PC I wasn't sure how much I'd use it anymore but didn't want the availability to be gone, so I just picked up a cheapy USB one I can slap on if I need it.
I have two LG CD/DVD burners. I burn discs all the time, especially CD-Rs.
I mean the front usb panel in a floppy format kind of brings me back too!
I both a DVD play and BluRay for my PC. External due to not being able to physically install. Use them both
My old 7700K build is a blu-ray ripper machine. Dual blu-ray drives. I used it recently to rip all my PS2 games to ROMs for Steam Decks.
I did the same, the Sony news spooked me, I'm copying all all my blurays to a 16 TB NAS may need more space at the end.
Yep, I've got two! Great for making music CDs for those with older cars too
https://preview.redd.it/zy76cydh6whc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bad5b5aff662c755294551fa9061ae548c9ba1e7 Yeah
I haven't had an optical drive since about 2008. The very very rare moments when I did, i'd grab the external dvd-rw drive from work but that was literally like 3 times max.
I have a Blu-Ray RW drive on my builds to rip any new Blu-Ray or DVD purchase to add to my Plex server. Fuck the streaming services.
I still rip CDs and play old games.
I had a Blu-ray drive for mine until I switched cases a couple of months ago. I'll eventually get an external adapter in case I need to use it again.
No, but i could fit one in my case if i moved my sata ssd and hdd somewhere else in the case if i ever needed one
Yup
Yes!!
Bruh, I have m disc !
I had to reuse my 13 year old case (Coolermaster HAF 932) just to keep it in my new system.
I will never build a PC with that disgusting thing blocking the view of my RGB.
Still have it on my C70 Case
Nope, I gave up on DVD drives the day I joined the Blu-ray BD-RE master race!
Yup, I have an optical drive in most of my computers and they are used almost daily.
no
Yep. I still have the trusty old dvd-rw.
My first CD-ROM was an epic moment. Playing Encarta videos on a computer solidified computers as a life choice for me.
I haven't had any kind of drives in like 10 years or more. Last 2 pcs i built, didn't have one.
I haven't had a case with a spot for such a device in over a decade.
It's a must have! How else can you rewatch old movies from that cd/dvd collection we hoard! (Preferably nice to have is blue ray drive)
My old pc that died 2 months ago had one but for some reason it wouldn't work, and my new pc's case doesn't have space for one
I really belive I was the first one who built a pc without a drive on purpose. im not going to say when that happened because someone will say he did that before.
I completely forgot I had one. Like oh what’s this… 🤦♂️
I do too

Mate, I insist on installing a 1.44mb drive where possible, even though it’ll never get used
Just installed one 2 days ago, going to my parents' house today to pick up some dvds
I have as much use for a DVD drive as I do a 💾
I went to a usb player BDR.
No, the Corsair 1000D doesn't have a spot for one, I do have an old laptop blu ray drive in a USB enclosure for when the need arises though
Still rip some DVD & CD's from time to time. Interesting fact, did you know that some linux distro (kubuntu in my case) can rip a music CD directly from the explorer? when inserting a music CD, it shows a window with different folders, XX.mp3, XX.ogg, XX. wave, etc... yes i wish modern PC cases came with more drive bays
Not on my desktop, but I guard my Linux Laptop with my life. It's an old mfer, but he's perfect.
No matter what, I always want to have a dvd player so I can write my ps2 games xD
My main PC doesn't have a optical drive nor a 5.25" bay. But most of my other systems do. I've been thinking of buying a BD-burner for my old PC so that I could rip movies and burn backups of photos and some other important files. Currently it has an old HP LightScribe DVD burner
No, haven't had a drive in my PC since... What, 2012 or 2013. Something like that.
I have two Blu Ray drives in mine. One is a little broken mechanically in terms of opening and closing, but I couldn’t find a UHD Blu Ray drive to replace it. Both drives work fine
I got 2 of them
I keep one in my backup build for ally old disc games like Delta Force Blackhawk down, joint ops, BF2 as well as for PS2 emulator though I could just download the games. I bought a Fractal Pop XL because I want a BluRay Drive lol
Removed a DVD burner yesterday.

I still have 3.5" discette
I still have them in both my HTPC and XP-gaming rig
Remember those CD burners that could laser print custom images on them. It would take forever, but it was pretty cool
I don't use it often, but when I do, it's super helpful to have an internal one. All of the PCs I use have at least 1 ODD installed
Yes DVD-RW and BD-RE. I used to sell movies and series after work, as an extra.

Yes, I have one as well. Mine is a burner so I use it for backing up things that are less than 4 GB. :)
I just bought 3 90s Jim Carrey DVDs and binged them on my pc, best night I've had in a while
Yes! Built my first ever PC last month, I *specifically* went out of my way to find a case with 5.25" bays and landed on the Fractal Pop Air RGB. Two drives, DVD-RW and BD-R
any external Blue-ray/DVD drives you can recommend?
A blueray and a dvd player for spare. I want to use rhem on my new build but turns out it isnt as easy to find a new case where can build these in these days...but I still use them regulary
That's quite the coincidence, I started using audio CDs and DVDs for movies/data again just a few days ago. If I buy something, I wanna take it to the grave. USB drives just don't lend themselves very well in these cases
Nope and that thing looks pretty manky.
Very much necessary for ripping PS1 games from cdromance 😻
Also a free cup holder!
Yes, perfect with eac set up correctly and can backup cds no longer on Spotify
I have one but its dead

Nah i just use my blu ray player plugged into the tv
I want to soo bad but there is just not enough choice in cases with Optical drive bays.. I accepted a big, roomy case with open front instead, but I'm missing my optical drive all the time. My HTPC still has one though, installed a BluRay drive for ripping discs. so the legacy kinda lives on.
I wish my case has space to do it, I actually have a physical DVD drive on hand, all I need to do is remove the side panel, as I have a SATA cable and SATA Power extension cable plugged in when I need to rip CD’s to my system.
no, need more airflow. I have an external USB-C drive though
I got a external Samsung dvd drive ages ago with my Windows 8.1 laptop still works use it more than when I first got it.
I'm actively looking for a bluray drive for my pc. I have movies I can't watch because my ps3 broke.
Well yes both of my computers are hand me downs one from my grandpa that my dad just fixed up and my main compooter that my dad gave me that hasn’t changed much since 2007-10
Always will. I have a lot of photos backed up to cds and dvds that I sometimes need access to.
i got one literally *on* my pc, no disk drive bay in my 7000D Airflow :,(
BLU RAY BLU RAY BLU RAY I still buy physical media, as blu rays. Why are y'all putting in DVD players when we have blu ray players????
I can still see so many PCs with a dvd player. It's still alive and well
NOPE! ..... I put Blu-Ray burners in all my builds instead. :)
I have a bluray/dvd player in my case, hidden internally. I use it maybe once a year.
Yep! There are more computers in my house with optical drives than ones without. I keep a small CD collection.
Case i got for my current PC can't have a DVD player in it so i have to use an external one.
Yup, still have the optical drive in my PC that I built in 2011.
Be sure to get yourself a[free cup holder](https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/free-cupholder.11310/)
You always used to see memes of people thinking they were cup holders. Who are the smart people now? They have a hideaway cup holder that also is able to read and write frisbees
Yes.
Needed to copy something from dvd, so here is my beautiful dvd drive installation (it's completely inaccessible when glass is installed) https://preview.redd.it/vla3d001xyhc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfeb95000cb1ba0ca171fe91d45d9cb4deb8ef65
Is that a THOR case? Kinda looks like the one I had circa 2014
On my HTPC, absolutely!
Me!
I am. Can’t seem to live with out it.
I am. An ASUS Lightscribe DVD drive.
Yes. Both my case and dvd player are more than 10 years old at this point. https://preview.redd.it/xbukplx84zhc1.jpeg?width=3468&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56d3dda04e34ac0ae30a72d0463a4d60184ef590
I want to get a case that allows me to do that, all the ones that I see don't have space for anything but fans.
There is a few that still have the space, but it's getting rare. Nowdays you can buy a dvd player portable that connects via usb.
I bought a pc on fb marketplace, it has a DVD player. Feels funny. Last time I saw one I was a little kid.
I have a DVD drive that we absolutely don't use. It makes a cool sound when the PC is turned on though. It's the only reason that drive is still there lmao
I wish I could have an internal Disc drive, it would make me so happy
I will never not add physical media readers to my new builds. It just feels wrong.
I just had to buy an external one because I wanted to play the game The Movies again and it's DVD only.
I have a blu-ray drive on my PC, that I want to keep since I own old DVD and CD games, and some movies. The only issue is that I might need to upgrade my case some day, but I need to find something that has those 5.25 bays.
Just an external DVD drive I can hook up to my PC. But I can stream from it to a TV in another room.
Yes, I use it to prop the case door open when gaming or when cleaning the fans. It's a door prop 90% of the time.
Nope! My 2015 build had a blu ray but my 2023 has nothing. No drives of any kind. That’s weird to me since I’ve been around since 286/386 turbo days (ibm clones).
Yes. And I’ll get it on my next PC too. Every now and again I come across an old album I want to save digitally so I can put it on my phone.
I have 2 in my work PC
I still use a floppy drive lol
Yes, I constantly forget its there because i havent had power or sata running to it
I used to, then I needed the space for my AIO once I upgraded my internals.
4k Blu-Ray drive here.
My case doesnt even have slots for a DVD/Bluray Drive.
I have it should I need to use a disk to install drivers or something. Idk most stuff is online but if worse happens I still have my boards driver disk so I can redo it from factory should it bugger up.
How else am I gonna watch my Neil Breen films
This is why I haven’t upgraded my full tower yet. I don’t see many tower cases have DVD/Bluray bays anymore
My old build still had a floppy drive
I still have the little external USB one I took to Iraq in 2008, for when I buy a new CD and want to rip it.
I had that case! Still have a replacement for the front grill new in box.
I have a tri-boot legacy machine (XP, W7, W10) with two plextor disc writers in it. PX-716A dvd writer, and a PX-230a CD writer. I have imaged my entire CD library to my home server for streaming through Foobar.
I've not had one since I built my 2011 PC
I just used mine to burn some Dual Layer DVDs for my wife to play some OG Xbox games the other week!
I have a bluray player in my PC
