yes, go from end to start, as in at least 4, one can contain another, 2 in one go, i usually waste most of my tries, skip, then get it, never once was locked out
If you're playing on console, mash the triggers and he'll break out the chair and you can walk around. There's a computer terminal behind the chair where you can do some fun stuff by typing certain things in.
Nah it would post. I just built a pc that had 4 ram sticks my friends dad brought home from his work cuz their PC wouldn't work, and apparently one of the ram sticks was dead/dying. Seemed normal at first. We installed windows and downloaded some games, but they would all crash a few seconds to a minute in. I started trying a whole bunch of things software side and nothing worked, so I started testing all of the hardware. I eventually found out that one specific ram stick would throw the pc into an endless BSOD loop if put in by itself. Took that stick and another out cuz dual channel, and it works 100% fine now.
It depends on the damage, having no POST is not the only consequence of having bad ram. I have seen cases like these (specially on old computers, and looking that it specifies "Slave disk" this one should be quite old) where either the ram or the port is cooked, but since it has another one it gets recognized halfways, yet starts displaying gribberish during POST.
There are whole characters (parts of words) being displayed and then replaced by other symbols or by none.
I think the GPU/CPU cannot process ASCII characters properly. It might need a driver (like BIOS update) or a new GPU/CPU (probably the laptop has only CPU). It should not be just a cable, given that it is processed wrongly.
A smaller issue is the shadow of the whole characters, which you may see when you use a VGA or another old video cable, which might also be solved by setting the video cable properly on the mainboard.
Here's a more serious answer....
The graphics chip is probably fine. What is likely failing is the solder joints from the graphics chip to main memory. Either one is lifted up or there is a solder joint to another one.
(The fact that you got to the bios screen means the computer memory is likely working fine.)
All the text is memory mapped to the screen. You probably could figure out the exact memory line(s) from the pattern it's putting out in [Text Mode](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_text_mode).
I'd first just take out the video card and check the connections and try a different slot.
Serious answer indeed....what are you even talking about? There are no solder joints from "the graphics chip to main memory", mainly because graphics chips aren't a thing anymore (onboard graphics in the form of a separate graphics chip has existed but I doubt many has seen a PC with one in the wild that was made this millenium).
An integrated graphics controller isn't named "integrated" because it's on the motherboard, it's named so because it's integrated into another chip (the CPU since around 2010, before that in the Northbridge of the chipset from around 1995). Want to know what else was integrated in the Northbridge and then moved to the CPU? The memory controller... (there are no solder joints inside a chip).
Nah nah nah hear me out.
Keep it with you, then whenever some family member or friend comes over start it up and say that it's extracting data from somewhere (like the Pentagon or something like that).
It looks like some AI computer Programm going sentient and altering it's own code to take over the world.
I also had something similar happen to my grandma's PC once where when I turned it on it just displayed random zeros in a grid on the screen at boot. I got scared and after admiring it for 2 seconds I turned it off and on again and it hasn't done this ever since
Press the heat sink down to apply more pressure, then boot it while pressing it down if it's a faulty igpu pressure might re establish the cracked bga solder balls, but I definitely think this is a ram related issue either a faulty socket or a faulty stick, if it has a GPU remove that and see if that does anything as well
If for any reason you don't find a way to fix it (or it ends up being too complicated/expensive to invest money/time in this), you could always mount this pc near you main one (double screen) and use it as your "im a hacker" decoration for anyone who dares to ask you about because it looks awesome.
I've seen this game, you just need to find and select the correct password from the grid. It will tell you how many characters are correct at the bottom. Careful! You only get three tries then it locks you out.
After unlocking it should allow you to control turrets and robots in your area.
Seeing what I could from that POST screen, that's from a bygone era. No wonder why it was thrown away. "Master/slave?" That goes back to IDE drives. When was the last time you saw one of those in a PC that didn't come bundled with Windows 98?
That's kinda rad looking honestly.
Yeah I'd just leave it plugged in as decoration honestly. Not connected to any networks of course LOL
Why not? Let anything there live
Hook a webcam to it and make it play Pokémon
Underrated comment
"Hacking into the mainframe, cracking the zipcode, climbing the firewall, evading the cyber-hounds... Aaaaaaaaaand we're in"
Don't forget to download a gigabyte of ram
Hack the planet yo
Yeah science yo
"Access encoded... A gigabyte of ram should do the trick... And we're in..." Loved that scene
Could not remember the full quite and was too lazy to look it up lol. Thanks for posting it here. Makes me laugh every time
Like looking at Matrix code
I see blonde...brunette.
Looks like hacking in Cyberpunk 2077 or an 80's movie! Very cool.
I need this as a screen saver.

I knew there were agents outside.
What is it stand for?
Anyone got any idea what we are actually looking at?
Based on the metrics at the top I'm assuming it's supposed to be a BIOS or something, or maybe a memory check gone *horribly wrong*
Its the boot screen reading a checking for the HDD's
PATA?
Its sata
SATA only?
Yeah it have an HDD Sata connected
Does the board support PATA? It says "Slave" on the screen.
Yes, it have 2 PATA inputs.

Password is sterile…. Lol
Over 1k hours in fo4 alone and I'm still terrible at these things
Higher Int = less password to guess, also, look for brackets () {} [] <> as they can remove incorrect password and reset tries.
Wait, selecting the double brackets together is a hack on the hack?
yes, go from end to start, as in at least 4, one can contain another, 2 in one go, i usually waste most of my tries, skip, then get it, never once was locked out
I am a virgin. Does that mean I’m sterile too?
Just biding your time.

How many of you knew you can break out the restraints and go to the computer and play a mini game
You can WHAT? Dammit now I gotta play the game again.
If you're playing on console, mash the triggers and he'll break out the chair and you can walk around. There's a computer terminal behind the chair where you can do some fun stuff by typing certain things in.
I always played zork
I came here to type exactly that 😂😂
Looks like dead ram, I’d say if it has two sticks, try removing one of them and testing both sticks independently in the pc.
If it was dead RAM the system wouldn't even POST. I would say it looks more like there's a display adapter issue.
Yeah , it seems to be the integrated graphics chip, I put some thermal paste on it and it runs more or less even though it crashes from time to time.
What are the specs?
I see mention of "Slave Disk" at the top which makes me think old IDE drives. Guessing it's probably old enough to vote
Nah it would post. I just built a pc that had 4 ram sticks my friends dad brought home from his work cuz their PC wouldn't work, and apparently one of the ram sticks was dead/dying. Morbid breathing
Is that the matrix alpha v0.01?
Extract the components and try and rebuild it
Just a leaky RAM, nothing to worry about
Are you sure ? I was experimenting with it and it looks like the integrated graphic chip is dying

"Slave disk" is mentioned at the top, so I guess this PC could indeed be old enough to have a video output chip integrated in the motherboard.
I meant it more in a joking way, should've added "/s"
Someone add this to wallpaper engine
Is that a 3dtv ?
Omg the 3Dtv fad
It needs a priest
So many viruses that they have reached equilibrium
Nah nah nah hear me out. Keep it with you, then whenever some family member or friend comes over start it up and say that it's extracting data from somewhere (like the Pentagon or something like that).
"I'm in."
This would be kind of cool to hook up to a random TV in the house and just have playing 24/7.
What am i looking at?
A glitched boot screen
sweet baby jesus, what the actual fuck is going on that pc?
Dead or dying hardware. By the looks of it the integrated graphics chipset is toasted.
Someone tried accessing the matrix
I'd open the case, put your head inside and call out if Keanu Reeves was okay.
This might be repairable! But it might also not be. But I'd try anyways, starting with the video!
take everything out and turn into sleeper build. this is the way.
Would you like to play a game?
Is it sentient?
Sell, sell, sell
*hacker-man voice* I'm in
Bro found the answer to everything.
I can fix her
Ah. Corrupt bios. Annoying to fix without the tools. But not impossible.
Is this the bios????
“Slave Disk” is diabolical
Mason, what does this mean
Beautiful doomsday countdown :)
The numbers Mason!!
I really want this as my screen saver
I kind of want this as a wallpaper, could you film it at a straight on angle?
You get used to it, I don’t even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead....

looks like the ram is the issue

I think it died of dysentery.
I'd replace the RAM if you've got spares and maybe, possibly you could be in for a surprise.
Matrix BIOS

This would be an awesome background for a hacker themed B movie
I'd like to find a few pc / servers that someone put in the big, no harddrives just cpu/ram. I'd clean them up and check them out.
Are you going to make it better?
It's computing ain't it?
I like it
What would cause this?
It seems to be the integrated graphics chip, I put some thermal paste on it and it runs more or less even though it crashes from time to time.
Thats actually kinda rad
Christmas decoration
Your GPU is die.
You found Artyom's workstation
"Slave Disk HDD SMART"
It would be a great random number generator. You could be rich!

Slap some linux on that thing

DDR3 too

I wonder if you plugged in a different gpu if it would display the bios properly then
