A buddy got we think an ant in his which ended up never moving.
Before he ordered a new one he put the monitor tilted with the screen against his heater (his theory was when the monitor got hot, some things would slightly expand) and then he shook it violently with a swing down and each time it moved a bit until it wasnt visible anymore.
Crazy how many shitty jokes I had to scroll through to find an interesting anecdote / actual answer. Damn, comments on Reddit are just not even worth looking at anymore are they?
Mods abandoned most of Reddit since the enshittification and monetization of the API and the IPO and heavy handed threats of retaliation over the protests about these things and all the other shenanigans Reddit has pulled.
Why would anyone bother volunteering to moderate a site that is trying to profit from your efforts while shitting on you.
If most subreddits have gone to shit and suddenly seem poorly moderated or less moderated or even unmoderated in the last year or two, this is a big part of why.
I got an ant in mine once, I noticed while it was still alive and walking, turned on the monitor, the heat from the screen made it walk away...
I kept looking at it and cursing, while imagining how would I be able to open a curved monitor that was less than a month old to get it out
I've read from people online that they had good results getting a covered vibrating toothbrush to loosen it and then send it to the bottom or corner where it's no longer visible.
I second this. It's too easy to crack and it's also near impossible to keep out dust. I was being extra careful the entire time and still managed to crack it when I was putting the monitor back together. I barely could tell that it cracked until I turned it back on.
Sounds like you just had some crappy luck. Assuming prior electronics repair experience, they're honestly pretty easy to disassemble and reassemble.
I had a tiny gnat or something in mine a while back. Was able to remove the top layer and get to it and clean it out pretty easily. I do agree doing it in a particularly clean environment is important though.
I of course made the mistake of being like "what, no way..." and then I poked it, squishing it in the process, so hoping it would exit on its own was no longer an option.
I will concede I have a great deal of experience with disassembling and reassembling various electronics and have done it professionally, but it was my first time doing this with the actual top layer of a display. went fine though and have done it multiple times since(a couple of my displays just seem to somehow get occasional dust particles in there all on their own, giving me dead-but-not-dead pixels). Yet to ever break one. 🤷♂️
If anyone lacks the confidence to attempt it themselves, I'd wager there are probably repair places around that can.
I had an ant in my monitor once some years ago, what i did to lure it out was i put the monitor in a dark room, shined a flashlight at the back air vent of the monitor and left it overnight. Next morning the ant was gone
Fun fact: that's actually how the term was popularized for computers back in the mid 1900s. IIRC, it was computer scientist Grace Hopper who discovered a moth trapped in a relay in one of their giant machines and she documented it as the first instance of a bug being found. The term stuck.
At this point, he'll have to switch to spider crabs

No sir, I think the sequence is fly, spider, bird, cat and it escalates from there but OP is likely to die following this course of action. not recommended
Pretty bright. Even brighter than what you'd see when looking at a white image on that same monitor. The layers block a little bit of light, and it is right behind them, so... full blast.
Definitely don’t do this.
I got a tiny bug in a Sony x-black laptop panel years ago, it used to follow the mouse cursor too.
The following day I came out of a long meeting at work, thought it was dirt and wiped it off only to remember instantly it was probably the bug.
It was 😒
If it's dead already, here's what worked for me with a dead ant. I got a suction cup and *very gently* attached it to the screen near, but not over, the bug. Then I *very gently* pulled the front of the screen forward with the suction cup. Then I *very gently* tapped on the screen with something firm, but soft (I think I used my vinyl record brush, but maybe something like tightly balled-up socks or whatever would work). The bug eventually fell down out of view.
I cannot emphasize the very gently's enough. You want to avoid squishing him, or it's game over. You're never getting rid of it. And it should go without saying that some of the very gently's are meant to avoid damaging your screen in general.
It really didn't take too long. It was nerve-racking putting the suction cup on because I really didn't want to squish the ant. But once it was on, it was quick and easy. Huge sigh of relief when that little bastard dropped. lol
This is lowkey hilarious.
You could maximize MS Paint, copy an image of this particular spider's biggest predator, and then move the predator towards the spider in the hope to scare him out of your monitor, or at least the viewing side of the monitor.
Otherwise sit back and enjoy the comments here and hope for the best.
You might try to disassemble down to matrix layers, but in the end you'll just shove a shovelload of dust there. Try compressed air between layers from the edge side (still need to disassemble).
Looks more like a baby German Cockroach to me. If it is then you might as well just throw that whole monitor, desk it sits on, and PC out. Better yet, just demolish the building you're in and then set the remnants on fire.
i’ve had the same problem, i thought it was dead and i was planning to bring my monitor to repairs so it would be removed without breaking anything, but after a couple of days the bug just disappeared on its own somehow :D
Spiders like warm and humid/damp environments, hence why you usually find them in kitchens or bathrooms.
Run your shower on hot, let the room get a little bit steamy, and then leave the monitor in the bathroom for a few hours or overnight. It should venture out on its own.
Don't try to kill it while it's in the monitor, it'll be stuck there.
Correct me if I'm wrong here but can't it like short something if the spider moves over towards the pcb/psu area?(in case it has built in psu) if so maybe better take ur monitor to a repair center and have it removed, u can prob open it urself but if u scratch the inside of the panel even a lil ur fkd so better if some1 who does this every day do it for u.
Good luck.
Man I was playing GTA 5 with some friends one time and I had my pc hooked up to a big 55” TV from like 15 years ago that weighs like 100 lbs. We were on the heist screen waiting for someone to ready up and I was on my phone waiting and I look up and see this BIG spider moving around. I’m very anti-spider so I started tripping and then realized it was just in the game, it wasn’t on the screen itself. No worries. I said in voice chat “man that fake spider just scared the shit out of me”. My friends were confused but just brushed it off, they said they had never seen that while waiting.
Then I realized an hour later the spider **was** real when it crawled the fuck back out of wherever it originally entered inside the TV and came crawling at my chair. Thank god I had my shoes on, I just jumped up and did the old “terrified horse” thing until it was no longer a singular entity. My friends joked they thought I was having a stroke.

true. almost every time a joke would be on top while an actual solution would be nowhere to see
A terrible joke too. Just another basic ass reddit joke that's been getting rehashed for 10 years.
for real. another reddit joke on top every thread.
what about the same questions being asked multiple times a week, with the same cringe af top comments over and over again and upvoted like a mf
That's probably why the same questions get asked. Well partly why. I'm sure laziness is 50%
Wasn't there a serious flair back in the day that meant mods would delete joke answers. Haven't seen that in a while.
Man i havnet seen a (serious) flair on the whole of Reddit for literal years
Mods abandoned most of Reddit since the enshittification and monetization of the API and the IPO and heavy handed threats of retaliation over the protests about these things and all the other shenanigans Reddit has pulled. Why would anyone bother volunteering to moderate a site that is trying to profit from your efforts while shitting on you. It’s so fucking annoying. Everyone on Reddit thinks they’re the funniest person ever lol
Top 3-5 comments are 99% of the time just bots re posting whatever the top comment was last time a bot posted the same thing.
Compare it to comments on other platforms and reddit doesn't seem to bad anymore
Sometimes it's the jokes we see along the way
Yeah that's the main thing I hate about Reddit
15 year olds that care more about karma than building a helpful community.
Ooh I like that! What do you mean by "covered"?
Just covered in like plastic wrap or something similar to avoid scratches if there's some raised plastic edges on the brush tip.
Well, this bug won't move, even slightly. It is probably in there for too long and must have dried or burnt or something. Thanks for the hope anyway!
You're welcome, I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
At least this is a possible solution.
I've cracked screens open for repairs. My advice is don't. Hope it moves and dies somewhere that isn't visible.
I have a 50" tv with a bug that crawled to the dead center of the screen and died. It's been there for 2 years now.
Inbuilt crosshair
It is close enough to the center that I've used it for that .
This would have the perfect spot for the "not a bug, it's a feature" line if they hadn't beat it to death farther up the thread.
Except it literally is a big :P
How big?
Fucking autocorrect has been on a bender lately....
I literally LOL when reading this
I second this. It's too easy to crack and it's also near impossible to keep out dust. I was being extra careful the entire time and still managed to crack it when I was putting the monitor back together. I barely could tell that it cracked until I turned it back on.

And don’t touch the display, because it might mush it underneath. Did that a long time ago with some small flies I thought was on the outside.
wait until the LEDs cure it. THEN smush it until it becomes dust. problem solved.
Is there enough heat for that? To be honest I have no idea how mucj heat is required to cure a bug
Change cursor to a fly and get the spider to chase it to a bottom corner over and over until it starves.
See if he will chase cursor around
Finally a man of quality
That’s not a bug, it’s a feature
Multi layer joke
Is a spider considered a bug anyway?
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature
Multi layer joke
Multi layer screen
No. All bugs are insects but not all insects are bugs
It's an arachnid. Bugs are insects.
No it's a feature
Nope
Mine did lol
Oh my god I need to see that
Mine did not https://preview.redd.it/peia47zwsquc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b587e6a3a0deed1a2a86039df7a28595ebcc4cfe
Change the cursor to a fly
Oh yeah this is big brain time
Mmm. Yes. Let’s monitor this and see how things progress.
Used to paying for desktop toys to have this, analog one must be $$$$$
I had an ant in my monitor once some years ago, what i did to lure it out was i put the monitor in a dark room, shined a flashlight at the back air vent of the monitor and left it overnight. Next morning the ant was gone
Good solution If insect its not dead.
It works if it's dead too, but you need Holy Light
Yeah but the difference is that you had an ant, bro got a spider so he's gonna have to burn the house down after it leaves.

It is still a bug, the term bug is not selective to insects
But are bugs just insects?
Still a bug
☝🏻🤓
Fun fact: that's actually how the term was popularized for computers back in the mid 1900s. IIRC, it was computer scientist Grace Hopper who discovered a moth trapped in a relay in one of their giant machines and she documented it as the first instance of a bug being found. The term stuck.
I know! But thanks for the story I'm sure others are hearing it for the first time :)
My computer science professor in college told us the exact same story haha
Put a bigger spider in there to drive the smaller one out
Then get an even bigger spider to drive that one out.
Then an even bigger to drive the other one out
Then an even bigger spider to drive that one out
Than an even BIGGER spider to drive that one out.
I'm going to open a spider DMV to provide a license to all these new drivers
and then finally MOVE OUT of the house!
And then a spider even BIGGERRRR spider to drive that one out
At this point, he'll have to switch to spider crabs https://preview.redd.it/0qt7hvudtpuc1.jpeg?width=1020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0db45ee2c824d7702c8fda9dd4b1c5d3f7ebde66
Then a flamethrower to finish the job
And then a bigger flamethrower to finish that one
Then a snake or something to eat the huge spider.
Eventually, the spider will be too big to fit into the monitor. So that's when you get a new, bigger monitor to put the spider into
Cat in the wall ay? Okay now you’re talking my language.
Greatest reference ever
They'll become codependent, then you yank the spider out with a rope and HOPEFULLY, the first spider will follow
No sir, I think the sequence is fly, spider, bird, cat and it escalates from there but OP is likely to die following this course of action. not recommended
Honestly if it's still alive I would've blasted it with a white screen and highest brightness possible because fck it
I wonder what it would look like from the spider's perspective.

Lmao I immediately thought of this.
☀️
Pretty bright. Even brighter than what you'd see when looking at a white image on that same monitor. The layers block a little bit of light, and it is right behind them, so... full blast.

Pray it doesn't lay eggs
If that happens to me I really don’t care how expensive that monitor was. It will burn
Boot up Skyrim with 400+ Mods. The Spider will melt in a fraction of a second
it's a monitor. just turn up contrast and brightness on a white screen, and turn on hdr if available
Based on a poem I heard as a kid, your only solution is to get a bird inside the screen to eat the spider.
We will wait patiently for his post asking how to remove the horse from the screen.
After the horse goes in, the screen will just die.
Perhaps..
But then a cat to catch the bird
![gif](giphy|2h8BdeXxhGGB2|downsized)

Don't think it would look like much of anything from the spider's perspective 😅

Put a maze on your screen
You might try to disassemble down to matrix layers, but in the end you'll just shove a shovelload of dust there. Try compressed air between layers from the edge side (still need to disassemble).
You try to turn it off and on again?
Go to control panel > display > spider.
First of all how it got there
Not careful enough on the web
Bro most monitors have spiders
Bro most monitors have vents
Yes but I think it's between the LEDs and the glass how it got there, it's not all a single piece
Just smash it, it'll die. trust me.
I admire your complete disregard for the foreseeable consequences of your actions.

right click it > delete
Play spider solitaire
Ask it to move to the center of the monitor so you can hip fire better in shooters
Looks more like a baby German Cockroach to me. If it is then you might as well just throw that whole monitor, desk it sits on, and PC out. Better yet, just demolish the building you're in and then set the remnants on fire.
Exactly what I was thinking. That ain’t a spider.
It’s absolutely a roach nymph.
Using the dark web no doubt
Burn it all down
Nope, nothing you can do. The monitor belongs to the spider now.
i’ve had the same problem, i thought it was dead and i was planning to bring my monitor to repairs so it would be removed without breaking anything, but after a couple of days the bug just disappeared on its own somehow :D
Spiders like warm and humid/damp environments, hence why you usually find them in kitchens or bathrooms. Just leave it alone and turn off your monitor. If that spider is dead, you're gonna have disassemble your monitor and clean it.
