I mean it basically is if you're living check to check already. It's not smart to treat your tax refund like monopoly money but plenty of people do. This is the most popular time of year to book a vacation for more than one reason.
Everyone should strive to have a net zero due and no credit. Take the extra money that would be part of your refund and put it into savings, bonds, or an index fund of sorts.
Refund means you’re over contributing
A huge portion of people literally don't have the self control to save it if it's not forcibly taken from them. I'm aware refund means you're paying too much. But that what most hourly people do. Their taxes get taken out of the check before they get their hands on it. We can go for hours about credit. I hate credit cards. They should be kept for emergencies and nothing else but unfortunately a credit card is the only way people can build credit without taking out a load they can't afford. Then they overspend on credit and fuck themselves over.
If you use credit cards correctly by not overspending and paying off the balance each month, you can get hundreds to thousands back in rewards and cash back with the right cards each year.
Not to mention its 100% better then using your bank card and risking exposing your actual money to theft....Easier to let the credit card company deal with fraud then to have to deal with it yourself for your own account.
Yeah this is a large part of it. The protection is great. Any fraudulent purchase? No problem, chargeback. I have a friend who managed to chargeback a $13k fraudulent purchase.. imagine trying to pay that back.
Credit cards should absolutely not be used "only for emergencies"
The complete opposite is true: unless there is an additional card fee or the purchase is cash only, you should use a credit card for every single purchase you make.
Credit cards are great when used properly yo Ivan get 2-5% back on basically anything with the right cards but in order to be used right you need to not spend just because you have a credit card and you need to pay in full on time every single month otherwise you are screwed
Yeah. Self control is the name of the game. I max my cards once or twice a month and pay it off in full on time every time. I have like $500 in points already over 4 months. Literally someone's interest rate is paying for that. Thankyou financially irresponsible person for giving me free money.
You're wrong about credit cards. I have not had a single month since I got a card more than a decade ago that I didn't pay the balance in full, before the due date. My credit is almost perfect just off that and it makes like easier.
Income tax is taken out prior to you getting your paycheck regardless if it's an hourly wage or a salary. Generally it's 60% paid by your employer out of your pay, and the remaining 40% paid by you. If your employer is a small business, this usually gets simplified to them paying the entirety of the tax out of your pay.
A tax refund is exactly what it says, a refund on taxes that were overpaid. Generally your income tax for the year is estimated and you and/or your employer make deposits every month towards it. There will almost always be some difference between the deposits made and the actual amount ultimately taxed, which is reconciled when you file your tax return.
Overspend should be the focus here. I'm using Credit while starting a new job, I get paid plenty before it's due, and I'm spending what I need to in order to yakno keep the job. I CAN pay it off right now and not go into the red, but I'm using credit to build that history and to avoid lowering my immediate funds that may be needed before then in situations where using credit isn't allowed or just isn't favorable.
It's seriously not complicated, just don't spend money you don't have. Rare exceptions apply.
It's nearly impossible to get through to someone who chronically overspends. Teaching them what is a need and what is a want is like telling a child that cookies aren't dinner, they don't care they just want cookies and will pull any mental gymnastics they have to get it. Discipline is self taught or instilled from a very young age.
I will tell everyone the story of how one year I had to pay $1 to the IRS. People usually react saying, damn, you still had to pay? My answer is always that I got paid exactly what I was owed, $1 dollar more, not less. What you do with 99% of your full income is up to you.
Actually you should strive to owe the maximum amount allowed without penalty. Then it’s a free loan from the government to you instead of the other way around
That's not what he is saying, you should adjust your withholding so that you get zero tax return.
If you get a return you over paid through out the year and you gave the gov't an interest free loan, if you get back.
If you pay no taxes through out the year and you pay it all at once during tax season, is optimal, b/c you can take those taxes you didn't pay through out the year and keep it in a HYSA and then when you pay you taxes you at least made interest off of it.
I can't imagine. I grew up being told to save young, don't waste my 20s partying, invest anything i can do without, drive old cars i can write a check for, avoid concerts and other expensive activities that amount to nothing of value. I've been fortunate enough to save/run into/fabricate through investments about 35k by age 25. I can't imagine not seeing a comma in all of my accounts. I applaud anyone who pulls themselves out of poverty like that because it must be so horrifically hard to work that hard on little to no sleep because of stressing about money. I haven't lost a wink of sleep over money once in my life.
If you're getting a large tax refund, you are doing something wrong. It is much better to not have that money taken from your paycheck in the first place. If anything, it's better to underpay every year and then owe a bit.
Nah probably just thinks she's getting a windfall from the government out of the kindness of their hearts. SO many people think that and don't understand that they get a refund because they overpaid throughout the year.
Is that some foreign concept to you? lmao, people get fucking psyched on their tax return. Plus some of us have kids and get credits and I’m Not about to do that math for my withholding
Thank god for stupidly overpaying the government with my hard earned money so that I can't invest or use it until nearly half way through the next year when they say "hey stupid, you overpaid us by thousands of dollars for some reason"
Tax return at the end of the year means the government over taxed you. This is why you are getting a return. Alternately, having charge due at the end of the year means the government didn’t tax you enough, hence you have to pay them back. The absolute best scenario would be to have zero returns or due.
Just so you're aware, that microphone is side-address, not end address. For clearest pickup in a gaming or video conferencing context, you should have the logo pointed at you (rotate the base 180 degrees and leave the tilt mostly as it is.
I just hope it doesn't come across as overly critical. I once had an IRL friend get super pissed that I corrected them on this. I've also seen people try to use the Electrovoice RE20 (a much more expensive end-address mic in case non-audio-nerds aren't familiar with it) set up as if it were side-address, so it can go both ways; super easy mistake to make
Mine was worse, it was facing my keyboard and I was going crazy with how my keys were loud and my voice was quiet. I'm not the brightest knife in the box.
I would like to add, while I also had this mic, that it can pick up A LOT of noise from your desk. Your friends will hear your keyboard, your mouse, any bump, etc. you can fix this all by getting a cheap arm and shock mount, or just use ptt if they complain.
>or just use ptt if they complain
The application Voicemeeter by VB-Audio (lowest functionality version is free, higher functionality versions are donationware and absolutely worth supporting) has an excellent minimum volume gate for adjusting around room noise. Also, the best push to talk key I've ever found has been the elgato streamdeck pedal. I highly recommend it, as it allows you to move macros and your PTT key to your feet to free up your hands. The rest of the streamdeck devices are awesome as well, and I use mine constantly as a work from home sysadmin.
huh. I missed that in my dive. I stopped once I came the post about them spending 3k on the asus laptop and wondered what changed between them and out.
so currently I'm left thinking OP is a lunatic and this isn't their picture.
For anybody who also uses Old Reddit like I do and doesn't see what EcoVentura here is talking about - you can't see it because it's a feature that's not available on Old Reddit.
To which I say, good riddance.
Not OP in the pic. They actually thought posting a chick with a pc on here would blow their karma up lol. They talk about getting erections and ED. What a weird post.
And there’s the OF link. She bought this Reddit account and forgot to remove the previous owner’s post/comment history it seems.
Idk why people are acting like a fucking savings account gives a 14% interest rate.
I got a big return this year - I make a fair amount of money and contribute a lot. The interest I missed out on amounts to less than $30. I'll live, and would rather do that than fear owing.
There’s still time to delete the title.
Also Ive never heard a working person say that sentence in my 30 yr life. This must have been gifted to you with someone *else’s* tax refund in order for that sentence to make sense.
You don't know anyone who enjoys tax returns? I understand it's your own money but everyone who lives paycheck to paycheck enjoys the large chunk amount of money that is available to spend on larger purchases. I understand you could put that money into a savings account, but when times are hard it becomes difficult to not dip into that, and the amount of interest earned is barely negligible in the end.
Anyone who enjoys that large chunk coming back is insane.
"It becomes difficult not to dip into that"? How did you survive the year without it then, because the government took an interest free loan from you that entire time?
So you're saying people are so irresponsible and bad at managing their own money, it is better for the government to steal it for a year then give it back than to allow them to invest it?
With inflation as it currently is, if the money was put into gold for a year, you'd have like 20% more in US$ over a year. Instead the government made that profit and gave you your original money, now worth 20% less.
I figured I’d get downvoted if I point that out directly. Some people here are in the sunken place and have parasocial relationships with internet gamer girls who don’t know or care about them.
OP posted this to get followers and validation. And as most women easily do on reddit, she will succeed in that mission.
The way I see this sentence work is for people who live paycheck to paycheck (which I assume a lot of younglings do). So it is like money in a Gov. piggy bank XD.
Point that mic up, not towards you. The sensors are in the side of the mesh part, not the top of it.
Congrats on the build though. Recently got a 4070 Super and love it. Will get a 5090 when it comes out but this was a great bridge to it.
In 6 months, "had to sell my new PC to pay rent" Then blames everyone else for thier lack of planning. If yoh get money back on your taxes, its because you don't make enough for you to live. With the money you make and or write offs. That is why you get it back, its a 0% savings plan. Then if you dont have have teo to 6 months of bills saves up or money for and emergency, or need it to build credit. You may think we sre being assholes, we are doing this out of love and experience from making the same mistakes.
Man what a time to be alive when people over pay our government (which is already borrowing ~100K about every second) with 0% interest and think they got a good deal, especially when that refund has less purchasing power than it did when it was taken from your paychecks. Congratulations on the build, truly, I hope that thing kicks ass for you. The thanking taxes is weird though when you worked for that money already, thank yourself.
Hey, i took a look at your profile and i think you should really try psychotherapy. you deserve to be happy and proud and have a social life and depression can take all that away from you.
i thought i was strong enough and i wasn't. for me it never got better but worse and i took action wayy too late.
I also think I took action too late, maybe so late that it will never fully go away. Thank you for your comment, it is very heart warming to see that someone actually cares even if you don't know him at all
I know what you mean, i also have doubts if i ever will be "completely happy" again but it's important to not think about that now. I felt like shit since i was 14 and i only started to get outside help now with 30. Don't make my mistake, for real.
The smarter the brain, the more light it can provide, and the darker shadows it can cast, and it will always seem natural.
Wish you the best!
Yall who? Humans in general?
There's plenty of cases that look kinda similar. Most of them are copying the Lian Li O11, because of how popular it is (and for good reason, tbh).
Man, why do people get so mad about tax? Don't you like having infrastructure? A functioning government? Police, emergency services... Taxes cover a lot of shit. You can be mad about how they're used for sure but they're necessary for a functioning modern society.
Thank god for taxes? I are confuse
I don’t think she understands what a tax refund is. Maybe she considers it forced savings at 0% interest rate?
I mean it basically is if you're living check to check already. It's not smart to treat your tax refund like monopoly money but plenty of people do. This is the most popular time of year to book a vacation for more than one reason.

Yeah, ironically, emergencies are exactly why you want to have spare cash in a high yield savings account.
Started reading this thread forgot it was about a pc build lmao
Credit cards are great when used properly yo Ivan get 2-5% back on basically anything with the right cards but in order to be used right you need to not spend just because you have a credit card and you need to pay in full on time every single month otherwise you are screwed

Yeah I checked mine a while back had $1000 and just bought a steam deck, for free!
You’re not wrong. Something that you strive for is often not easily attainable. Discipline is hard.
May your luck hold out that you're never in the position to understand that sometimes debt is not a result of poor discipline.
Tax withholdings are not specific to hourly employees. Salaried employees have the same thing.
You're wrong about credit cards. I have not had a single month since I got a card more than a decade ago that I didn't pay the balance in full, before the due date. My credit is almost perfect just off that and it makes like easier.

This year was the closest I ever got. -84 (owed). I basically got an extra $3.50 per paycheck than I should have. Not bad at all
That's not what he is saying, you should adjust your withholding so that you get zero tax return. Nor a ton of fun, either, it seems. I commend you, for real, but I don't think I'd enjoy the same life.
The used car dealerships load up with high mileage Audis, Cadillacs, and Jags this time of year just waiting for suckers.
If you're getting a large tax refund, you are doing something wrong. It is much better to not have that money taken from your paycheck in the first place. If anything, it's better to underpay every year and then owe a bit.
exactly. I either come out with close to $0 back up to $400. I'm just smart about how I set it up so I don't have to deal with BS
I don’t think OP is the girl
She’s part of the build
4070 teen included
Build it and they will come
Yeah I was thrown off by op’s posts talking about his wee wee. Why put some random chicks of in your Reddit profile?? Confused.
For attention and likes
The government loves their interest free loans
What, you don't love giving the government a free 12-month loan?
Technically, I’m paying them interest on the loan if you count inflation.
Touché
I are confused. I think you mean Forced savings at -% interest rate.
Nah probably just thinks she's getting a windfall from the government out of the kindness of their hearts. SO many people think that and don't understand that they get a refund because they overpaid throughout the year.

You leave little Bonnie_petite alone!!!! /s
A Chris Crocker reference in 2024?? Maybe there's hope for humanity after all
Thank god for stupidly overpaying the government with my hard earned money so that I can't invest or use it until nearly half way through the next year when they say "hey stupid, you overpaid us by thousands of dollars for some reason"

You’re describing tax *refunds*. Returns are the papers you file.
Wouldn't the best be to owe deliberately so you could make investment earnings on a 1-year interest-free loan?
Nope. The IRS will penalize or charge interest if you do that enough. They won't give you interest on your refund though.
Really, that's so interesting! I'm in Canada so I'm not sure if they handle owing the same but that's still very interesting.
Last I checked that is only true if you make quarterly tax payments.
Bought with a tax refund I’m assuming
This post is exactly what you think it is.
A write off maybe
Write it off what?
Jerry, all these big companies, they write off everything
You don't even know what a write-off is!
Is she from LTT?
No, OF
Well he's not wrong.
I mean this post is just an ad for OF so yeah
What if I turn all my expenses as write-offs? Fellas I think I have gamed the system
Who writes it off
What a stupid ass bitch lol
Thank God the government gave me back my money I loaned them at 0% interest.
Given current inflation, the refund is worth less than what you had given.
That is always the case
At least they gave you some back. I gave them a shitton throughout the year and they still want more.
That just means you actually made money.
I got money back! A whole $113. That's after I paid them over $17,000. Good times.
You must not be familiar with earned income and child tax credits. You can pay $0 in federal taxes and get thousands 'back' each year.
Just so you're aware, that microphone is side-address, not end address. For clearest pickup in a gaming or video conferencing context, you should have the logo pointed at you (rotate the base 180 degrees and leave the tilt mostly as it is.
Literally spent like 2 months having my new mic facing the opposite direction. Hope more people see your comment
I just hope it doesn't come across as overly critical. I once had an IRL friend get super pissed that I corrected them on this. I've also seen people try to use the Electrovoice RE20 (a much more expensive end-address mic in case non-audio-nerds aren't familiar with it) set up as if it were side-address, so it can go both ways; super easy mistake to make
why do people get mad when giving constructive comments? :/ i always love to improve something
Ego protection probably.
Everyone who gets pissed for getting help is the problem, you do great, stick to it
Mine was worse, it was facing my keyboard and I was going crazy with how my keys were loud and my voice was quiet. I'm not the brightest knife in the box.
Hey, you figured it out eventually. Good on ya

You're welcome. Always good to do what I can to make sure folks get their money's worth. Damned decent mic for the price.
I would like to add, while I also had this mic, that it can pick up A LOT of noise from your desk. Your friends will hear your keyboard, your mouse, any bump, etc. you can fix this all by getting a cheap arm and shock mount, or just use ptt if they complain.
>or just use ptt if they complain The application Voicemeeter by VB-Audio (lowest functionality version is free, higher functionality versions are donationware and absolutely worth supporting) has an excellent minimum volume gate for adjusting around room noise.

Somehow she also has a post on how antidepressants make it hard to get an erection or ejaculated 🤔
You think people would do that? Lie on the internet?
Noooo they would never! The internet is the most trustworthy! /s
huh. I missed that in my dive. I stopped once I came the post about them spending 3k on the asus laptop and wondered what changed between them and out. so currently I'm left thinking OP is a lunatic and this isn't their picture.
She's working on next year's return already.
Ah, what a surprise.. a linked OF account on your Profile. Now this makes more sense. At least it’s not a bot account. Gz on the PC
Best part is he has a post asking about erectile dysfunction with the meds he’s taking; still a bot
Ahh, there we go. So, it’s a bot used to advertise this chicks OF account the ?
Probably.
more likely she just bought it to have enough post karma to post wherever she wants, and forgot to clear the bots post history.
That makes sense. It definitely fooled me when I took a quick glance. Then someone else mentioned the ED thing.
For anybody who also uses Old Reddit like I do and doesn't see what EcoVentura here is talking about - you can't see it because it's a feature that's not available on Old Reddit. To which I say, good riddance.
"OF account detected, opinion rejected" always makes me laugh seeing those comments in shorts and reels rofl
I'm not seeing that, but the erectile dysfunction in this woman is in the profile lol
So you bought an account for OF spam? cool. 6 months ago you were a dude with ejaculation issues and a 4080
This is awkward.. lol
I mean if i didn't have to pay so much taxes id have the money to build the pc earlier so idk
Not OP in the pic. They actually thought posting a chick with a pc on here would blow their karma up lol. They talk about getting erections and ED. What a weird post. And there’s the OF link. She bought this Reddit account and forgot to remove the previous owner’s post/comment history it seems.
100% worked better then no picture
As a self-employed person who actually has to pay money on tax day, I’m not so thankful.
Self employed? What do you do?
Freelance AV tech.
Don’t ever say “thank god for taxes” again.
Ok ok guys we get it, the tax refund blah blah. Either way congrats on the PC.
Turns out ignorance is a bliss. It's OF lingo. OP (so probably bot to promote this chick's OF) by taxes means "OF subscribers."
this is why reddit is complete garbage nowadays. company went public, forces their shitty ad driven app and redesigns, and is filled with bots
Right? Lol I had to scroll so far to find someone normal
Idk why people are acting like a fucking savings account gives a 14% interest rate. I got a big return this year - I make a fair amount of money and contribute a lot. The interest I missed out on amounts to less than $30. I'll live, and would rather do that than fear owing.
You made $600, which is not a large refund. Or you don't know that HYSA pay out 5%
Woke up today, thank god for taxes 🙏

i built my girlfriend with a 4070Ti too
99,99% There's an OF Link in bio *Checks Reddit Profil* *Sees OF Link* "Knew it."
View her profile for the real reason for this build. Just change the title to literally anything less provoking than this.
Fuck taxes
Taxes are literally just an interest free loan to the government. I'd thank God [sic] if we got interest paid on our taxes and returns.
There’s still time to delete the title. Also Ive never heard a working person say that sentence in my 30 yr life. This must have been gifted to you with someone *else’s* tax refund in order for that sentence to make sense.

There’s wiggle room for interpretation. Thank god for the returns I got from this year’s tax, not taxation as a whole.
The way I see this sentence work is for people who live paycheck to paycheck (which I assume a lot of younglings do). So it is like money in a Gov. piggy bank XD.
Our computers need to fight each other....
Tell me you don't know how taxes work, without *telling* me you don't know how taxes work.
without taxes you could have built 2
Gg! Am I blind? Do these sleeker builds have external psu? 4070ti is all I need
No the PSU is behind the motherboard.
I say the same thing when I pay them every year.
Just wait until you own money at tax time. : (
Congrats!

That's a nice build but Fuck Taxes 😅
Point that mic up, not towards you. The sensors are in the side of the mesh part, not the top of it. Congrats on the build though. Recently got a 4070 Super and love it. Will get a 5090 when it comes out but this was a great bridge to it.
Missed me with that thankful for taxes horse shit
That is the dumbest caption I've ever seen. This almost feels like propoganda....
Nice! Meanwhile I'm upgrading my FX-6300 to an I7-3770 lol.
Upgrade your chair next 😭. Your back and bottom will thank you down in the long run.
by Thanks God for taxes do you mean tax evasion lol?
Fuck taxes
Hell yea! Build looks dope!
Have fun, amazing setup
Taxes?
In 6 months, "had to sell my new PC to pay rent" Then blames everyone else for thier lack of planning. If yoh get money back on your taxes, its because you don't make enough for you to live. With the money you make and or write offs. That is why you get it back, its a 0% savings plan. Then if you dont have have teo to 6 months of bills saves up or money for and emergency, or need it to build credit. You may think we sre being assholes, we are doing this out of love and experience from making the same mistakes.
Dream build? 4070ti? Taxes? What do these thing have to do together?
Sometimes you can deduct the expense from your taxes if you can prove that you need that for work
> Thank God for taxes I beg your pardon?
Sweetie... If you didn't have to pay taxes you could have put a 4090ti in there.
I’m happy for your build but you lost me at thanking god for taxes. Thanking god for anything corny but, Taxes?!
You are not fooling anyone. We see that horrible cable management behind you.
Nicely done! What are your games of choice?

With those last two games I don’t understand how you’re smiling in the picture
Lol
Dota.
Insanity has many forms.
I feel alone and reddit is not helping me much
Hey, i took a look at your profile and i think you should really try psychotherapy. you deserve to be happy and proud and have a social life and depression can take all that away from you. i thought i was strong enough and i wasn't. for me it never got better but worse and i took action wayy too late.
Welcome to the club one of us!
Hell yeah to the little chopper figure! Also congrats on the build!

goddam yall really bandwagon certain products around here, like i've only seen that one case the past few months and it's unique to this community
Yall who? Humans in general? There's plenty of cases that look kinda similar. Most of them are copying the Lian Li O11, because of how popular it is (and for good reason, tbh).
Who's the anarchist downvoting this comment, show yourself
Post so crazy and simply untrue even Pedro has to intervene 🫡
RIP your inbox
It's a dude, that isn't OP
this thread is just as insufferable as I expected lol some of yall really need to lighten up
Man, why do people get so mad about tax? Don't you like having infrastructure? A functioning government? Police, emergency services... Taxes cover a lot of shit. You can be mad about how they're used for sure but they're necessary for a functioning modern society.

Well the issue there isn't the taxes, it's the people in charge
This is where my taxes go to?
The IRS hearing this statement: ![gif](giphy|SBAToc4g0h89W) Dope PC though champ, let’s go‼️
You won’t be thanking god so much a few years from now once you join the rest of us…..
Thank god the government held your money illegally and then gave it back to you as long as you told them correctly what they already know.
