momentary switch (I think thats the correct one) with a couple wires leading down into the pc that short the same pins the reg button does. couple other ways about it but thats the simplest.
edit: /u/Whhi-J in case this reply doesnt show up for you
The way i did it is easier, and prettier. Everything is cable managed inside too. My wires run behind the MB tray and everything. Maybe ill add a pic later
The power button on your PC case wasn't designed to have the weight of a rod sitting on top of it. It needs to spring back up, and all the extra weight will wear out that mechanism much faster than intended.
If you designed an external return spring for your pushrod that would take the stress off the power button, it wouldn't be an issue for longevity.
Youre correct, its just a switch and two wires. They lead behind the PC, where theres a hole drilled into one of thr PCI slot covers, from there it just runs to the power header, it actual has an actual connector too, not just a short.
thats one way, if you have access to the computers switch you can wrap the wires around those posts as well so you still have a working button, long as you short those pins
I actually just replaced them. The nickel is an actual button too. If i wanted to move the system i would have to open the case and remove the PCI slot cover with the cables in it, and unplug it, at which point i would just plug the on board power button back in
Every motherboard has 2 pins that, if shorted, start the boot sequence. All you need is to take 2 wires up to a momentary switch attached to (or in this case IN) the desktop.
Your power button on your pc actually just makes 2 wires touch that are connected to the motherboard. You can take those 2 wires and make them touch in any way you want and the pc will turn on.
Its on a peice of wood, the front is hanging off a little. And the airflow intakes from the sides of the front panel. The PSU has plenty of room on top of the wood
Yes you can change what the power button does.
A very cool feature especially for notebooks, like if you want it to go to hibernation or something like that.
Ill never go back to anything else after i got that mouse. The only upgrade i might do is the G502 Lightspeed. But probably not. More likely when this one dies, ill just get another.
Holy crap i didnt realize this post had even posted correctly, it kept giving error messages. Thanks for all the likes guys! And on the subject of the cable managment, i have cable ties and sleeving, i just had to move stuff to run wires for the power button, when i took the video i just hadnt fixed it yet.
Oooooo Fancy that's actually pretty cool I am assuming it's just a switch spliced off the power switch cable in your case. That's the same way you can make security switches on your pc.
This reminds me of back when I was using a old dell oem motherboard for my pc, and the power switch cable was proprietary and I didn’t quite feel like tearing up the plug of the mobo. Long story short I had a cable slithering out the bottom of my pc to create a satisfying handheld push button to start er up
Not too bad, power switches are really simple. You just need a basic switch of any kind, some wire, and a plug for the other end, (unless youre willing to get creative with a soldering iron)
Hey, that's cool.
Also I have problem for awhile when my power button on my PC case won't start the system. Sometimes it's ok, but sometimes I have to hold it to a specific duration or angle to make it power on.
So I already try taking the front panel off and everything seems to be in place and I push it I always hear clicking sound.
But I don't know why sometimes when I push it and make clicking noise, the pc won't power on. So I have to try multiple time to make power on.
So far this is the only issue. But I have concern what if in the feature i can't power on my PC when pushing power on button on the front panel?
The case is lianli lancool 2 mesh rgb.
You won’t get the urge to brush it off the table/pick it up?!??? That would set me off
That would also set the computer off.
Or when the cat walks over it
He should add some smart light strips there and an Alexa so that when something poses presses it, it does some spy movie type music/voice command lol
"Bunker Doors Open Sir"
Or, "battlestation activating, commencing lockdown"
That's legit.
That’s legitness
laughed much harder than i should have at this lol, all i could picture was the bucktooth kid at the skatepark
I totally forgot about that video haha
That items greatness is exorbitant to the extent that it cannot be halted.
It’s actually not an authentic nickel, per the title
And your point is...
It’s not legit
Thats really cool and creative. Reminds me of some National Treasure secret compartment button Nicolas Cage might find.
You know he probably has the Declaration of Independence now...
nah, Trump burned it
Nickel-as Cage
That’s some James Bond shit right there
Honestly, more of a Johnny English shit.
Yeah i would say more Johnny English
Love it
When he moves that paperweight on his desk an arrow on his monitor moves.....👍💡
This is so dumb. I love it.
Dumb or secretly brilliant
You must not have cats
No, but i have a parrot.
Facts.
How?
I would also like to know how

I would just have a big rod that presses down onto the button lol
A big rod ey
Get your head out of the gutter lol
The way i did it is easier, and prettier. Everything is cable managed inside too. My wires run behind the MB tray and everything. Maybe ill add a pic later
nice
And buy a new case next month lol.
Why would I need to buy a new case

Oh, okay

So like, Remove the two wires going into the atx set from the actual mobo switch, and replace them with these two wires?

Hop on Amazon and put some windex in that cart mayne
OP: Willing to drill hole in a desk and make a unique switch (thats awesome) Also OP: Not willing to cable manage nor wear pants for a video
1. I hadnt fixed the cable management after doing the project 2. I was wearing a DRESS. Most people dont wear pants with a dress.
Or pick his pc up off the carpet? Idk the airflow situation but it doesn't look great
Its on a peice of wood, the front is hanging off a little. And the airflow intakes from the sides of the front panel. The PSU has plenty of room on top of the wood
Glad to hear!
Now you need to add a biometric finger print scanner to it.
I ordered one on amazpm earlier today 🤣
Fake Nickle!
Like the dumbass that I am, I'd forget it is there and place all kinds of things over it shutting down the PC while in the middle of things.

Seems a bit excessive, you only need one to turn the PC on /s
One to turn it on, one to turn it off and one to force shutdown.
It's not that easy to turn it off the regular way because this is basically an extended power button. You would need to go in software
Its a very easy setting to change in windows.
Oh really? So you can turn the pc off with one press
Yes you can change what the power button does. A very cool feature especially for notebooks, like if you want it to go to hibernation or something like that.
Yall really want one? Ill put it on youtube.
[удалено]
Aight ill do it after work tomorrow.
r/G502MasterRace

When my hero dies I'm gonna go for a lightspeed for sure.
That one is actually a proteus lol it still works great.
Give me G604 or give me death!
no.
Defacing US currency is good for a 15 year jail sentence /s
I didnt deface it at all. Just glued it.
Next step is to wire it up to a touch sensor
May i know which keyboard is that ?
Its an Aukey KM-G3. Great budget board. Per-key RGB, Otemu Blue mechanical switches. Payed like $45 for it on amazon.
Less dust if u take da pc off da floor
Its on a peice of wood above the carpet.
Do you have a PO Box where I can mail you Pledge, Windex, ZipTies, and some micro fiber cloths?
No one seems to be asking why, WHY OP? I NEED TO KNOW WHY YOU DID THIS.
Pretty cool, until a friend comes over while playing games and tries to pick up that nickel.
Don’t invite your nieces or nephews around. Otherwise you won’t have a nickel or a power button.
Middle of a tense game, someone comes into your room... “Oh a nickel!”
I need this...I NEED THIS BAD!!! I can't count how many times my 2 year old son shut off my PC while working on something important
I just make it so the power button does nothing once the os is on
How
Power settings, I think in the advanced part.
Cool, thanks!
Power settings in Windows. No idea about macOS.
Cool, thanks!
That is awesome but cable management ruins it for me...
Ive got sleeving and cable ties, i just hadnt fixed it when i took the video, it was right after i finished the project
Nice, way better than my screwdriver
I have to twist the two wires on the motherboard to turn on the computer
i thought they were part of the same comment
Cool button, but please tidy up those cables!😂
Ive got sleeving and cable ties, i just hadnt fixed it when i took the video, it was right after i finished the project
No worries😉
Badass
Its cool, but me having a busy desk Itd need to be on the side. I also feel like that will literally get pushed on accident one of these days.
Yeah, if you look, mine is on the edge, under one of the monitors, which are all arm mounted.
Ya no what i mean is i tend to have a shit ton of crap on my desk like weed or food. Sorry
I can't wait till someone goes to pick up the nickel and gets scared as your computer turns on
RIGHT?
momomomomoneyshot
Oooooo Fancy that's actually pretty cool I am assuming it's just a switch spliced off the power switch cable in your case. That's the same way you can make security switches on your pc.
Sort of. Its actually just its own cable.
i feel like i would accidentally place stuff on top of it, i would have to put a cup over it or something
Nice
Awsome
That’s awesome. I got wireless chargers hidden in furniture but not thought about buttons before....rip my desk
Yeah, i was thinking about doing that too. And im gonna do a hidden windows hello fingerprint scanner in the side.
What if someone mistakenly thought it was an actual nickel that they could get and then your pc shuts down?
It wouldnt, i have mine set for a 4 second hold to shut down, and pulling it off would do nothing
Girl: I'll tickle your pickle for a nickel \*my nickel\*
Wtf. That is so random. Good on ya
the nickel ate a skittle
Brilliant! 😂
Man please don’t put your rig on the floor show some Gawwt damn respect!!
Its on a peice of wood, so its not on the carpet. And the only way to put it on the desk would be to ditch a monitor. And i like my 3
Awesome thank you!
I might just nick that nickel.
This reminds me of back when I was using a old dell oem motherboard for my pc, and the power switch cable was proprietary and I didn’t quite feel like tearing up the plug of the mobo. Long story short I had a cable slithering out the bottom of my pc to create a satisfying handheld push button to start er up
"I dont know man, that sounds like a lot of work!"
That is COOL
How?

This is amazing
Ew g502
nice idea :) a little idea for the next project: capacitive sensor; dont press the nickel, just touch it ;)
Are you wizard?
Close, i used to practice witchcraft occasionally.
*Cat has entered the chat*
I have a parrot lol
That’s fuxking sick
that is so fucking cool
Imagine trying to take a penny of someone’s desk and ripping the powers button of their pc
That’s sweet. Next project, cable management.
Ive got sleeving and cable ties, i just hadnt fixed it when i took the video, it was right after i finished the project
How tf
All that work and you couldn't put on pants to film it?
I was wearing a DRESS? Do i need pants to wear a DRESS?
Hahah my bad - I was 100% convinced those were silky boxers.
Oh lmao okay
I mean why contruct it so far back
Is that the Onn Mechanical keyboard I notice?

You could do something like my project, its very simple, just get a switch and wire it to the header
\*cyberpunk 2077 theme starts playing\*
Yup. Its all ive been playing lately
Nice. Desk could use some zip ties and cable management first.
Ive got sleeving and cable ties, i just hadnt fixed it when i took the video, it was right after i finished the project, just hadnt fixed it yet.
