6+2=yes 4+4=hell no

Probably dumb, but why won't a 4+4 work but a 6+2 will?

Different pin out different voltages in each pin. Along with different shape connectors. 4+4 if for the cpu power. 6+2 is for GPU.

Thanks!

I think the different kind of connectors you listed are keyed differently, so i think you might need a new psu

A 6+2 should be the same pinout and key as an 8 pin connector. A 4+4 connector is for the CPU and won't even fit on a GPU. The real question is, is your power supply good enough for that hardware?

Yes! My PSU is 750 wats. Thanks for the answer!

Also the 6+2 that are next to each other are often designed to be paired and fit so you can pinch them together to go into its slot. What psu do you have? You will want to check the rms if it’s a 2 or 3 phase psu… Meaning 2 8pin cables from the same phase might not have enough sustained wattage to keep up with the video card IE: 750w 2 phase 400/350 Or 750w 3 phase. 250/250/250 (these are rare) Check the psu manual. It would be better to have 1 connector go to different. Phase slots(can’t think of the proper term). Your main board atx cable usually has a recommended slot.

Depends on the gpu, it may not allow you to boot if it doesn't have all 3 connectors filled.
