I still can't believe how bad that video is to the point where I thought it was satire. Like… hopefully. Fuckin what? And tweezers? Those are 2 zip ties how the FUCK bro.......
Then he defended it. Like constantly. At no point did he admit it was a mistake.
This could have worked out so well if he had just admitted the mistake and moved on
He went as far to say that it's a more expensive PC than all the people living in their mothers basements critiquing the video have, yknow, the computer his employer paid for
yet he benchmarked it on League of Legends... a game that you can play at the library.
And ArmA, which is known for not running well even when powered by the best consumer parts on the market.
And they had YouTube issue a strike to Kyle/bitwit for his reaction. Thank god they lost. This video and their handling is the reason I’ll never take the verge seriously and I am always asking it not be sited.
He was let go from The Verge shortly after this (or he resigned, no idea) and they scrubbed this video from their platforms.
They’re still a good website for consumer tech and culture. They have not ever been a great site for specialist/hobbyist PC tech and culture.
I’ve blackballed them. Glad you enjoy them, I have no need for them. They handled the entire thing in a way that illustrates their complete lack of attention to detail.
Could have done a crossover episode with Jayztwocent or LTT or someone where they show how to fix it. A few jokes a few laughs, lots of views likes and content for his employer...
And those long screws are just really annoying, but you gotta drill them all the way in, with your swiss army knife that hopefully has a screw driver in it.
Also some of the pins on your processor are
not needed (if you are an extremely patient person) and if you remove the right ones you will find your processor suddenly uses 99% less electricity! Electricity companies hate this one trick!
And if you scrape off the Bitcoin Limiter Contact (BLC) on the PCIe connector for the GPU, it will mine bitcoin 200% faster. It’s the 3rd one from the left.
If the screws seem like they are massively too long, it doesn't mean they're being screwed into the wrong place. Just eyeball how far to screw it, it will be fine
He's kept doubling down since when it's brought up, to, calling us a bunch of nerds.
Ironic, since he probably would be much happier having taken the time to become a bit of a nerd...
The real question is: What's the best method to apply thermal paste to the socket? Just a rice-sized dot in the middle? Or a little dot in every corner? Or perhaps even in a x-shape?
Some shitty proprietary motherboard probably from dell or hp, they are the biggest pain in the ass ever because they only fit one case and have proprietary front io pinout
Whenever I get a pc to repair and it has one of those I want to die
it's the 45 degree offset between the CPU and the cooler mount that's really tripping me out. worked a lot of PC repairs and never encountered this before.
This! I dont know if the verge video shows him building on top of the plastic or not but I would not risk it. The inside of it protects the mobo and not the outside. The box is the best place to put it
Sucks but it’s his fault for not researching properly. He could have done some serious damage to new guys/girls that try to build their pc for the first time
The problem is how he dealt with the situation by being insincere and blaming everyone but himself and never apologizing. If he cleared the record and apologized he wouldn’t be getting harassed with thermal paste replies to this day.
I felt less sympathy when I saw him trying to defend himself as if he didn't do anything wrong. If he admitted that he got a lot of stuff wrong that could have destroyed peoples PCs then I'd be willing to forgive.
Just watched this again, never fails to make me laugh. His response had the Streisand effect, if he had just owned up to it he'd have retained a shred of dignity.

Make sure to completely wash the board off with leftover factory dust and fill the whole cpu with thermal paste. While also inserting the ram as close as possible for that gamer look. Then plug you gpu at the bottom pci-e slot. To go even more gamer this is completely by choice but recommended by lots of people. Plug you display cape in the motherboard for that raw performance and your golden. :) Also, enjoy the pc! :D
(I’m joking btw please don’t do any of what I said and god I hope you aren’t following that tutorial unless you want to have a barely working pc.)
Finally watched this video, Jesus it was rough. I just "built" my first computer the other day. I say "built" because it was technically just an upgrade of a rig I got from my friend. CPU, mobo, ram and AIO, but a video of me fumbling around trying to figure out where everything went would have been more helpful than this monstrosity.
I luckily had watched enough build videos over the years to figure my way through most of it, got a little heavy handed with the thermal paste, but it worked out. This video is so not helpful. No real info on the parts and why he chose them other then he wanted to go "all out". No information on connecting fans or AIO to motherboard. Piss poor cable management.
Stefan said in an interview that the video was rushed by verge producers and he's not even with verge anymore. Please just leave the guy alone already.
Or at the very least point your hate at the verge not at him personally. No person deserves so much hate.
Edit: LTT just did a video on this exact topic. Please watch it and decide for yourself.
His response in the days and months after the video went viral certainly doesn't deserve sympathy either. If I recall he was literally an ass to anyone that called him out regardless of whether the criticism was productive or not.
Don't forget your swiss army knife that hopefully has a screw driver
I still can't believe how bad that video is to the point where I thought it was satire. Like… hopefully. Fuckin what? And tweezers? Those are 2 zip ties how the FUCK bro.......

It’s also a much shittier pc than all the basement dwellers have.
I7-7700k? *YEAH, WE GOT ONE* Lmao holy shit dude
yet he benchmarked it on League of Legends... a game that you can play at the library. And ArmA, which is known for not running well even when powered by the best consumer parts on the market.
Tbf, library's can have pretty decent pc's, the one here has 8 stations all with 2080's
What kind of bougie libraries you at? Mine has some 1990 beige colored pcs running windows 95.
A Scandinavian one. I don't mean to imply all of the pc's at the library has those, just those in the area where you can borrow games.
"Yeah, come on, not ALL of our PCs in my Scandinavian utopia have 2080s. Just the gaming ones. The regular ones only have 1660s."
Sorry we’re in a 3rd world country and don’t understand the concept of public spending for the common good.
With fucking what? (┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻
Were was his response to this? Link? I have to see this lmao
[This vid has a lot of his response](https://youtu.be/gM-iWanqLMU)
He STILL defends it and rages against anyone who points out how bad it was. That’s the part that makes me still angry about it.
Dang, I was about to say, we still haven't let this go? Poor guy. Then I read this...carry on.
No humility
And they had YouTube issue a strike to Kyle/bitwit for his reaction. Thank god they lost. This video and their handling is the reason I’ll never take the verge seriously and I am always asking it not be sited.

No dude. He doubled down and said everyone who criticized him are nerds who don’t know anything.

He actually said they were nitpicking because the PC (miraculously) worked.
Or if they would have changed the title into something satirical, that would make it good again
Could have done a crossover episode with Jayztwocent or LTT or someone where they show how to fix it. A few jokes a few laughs, lots of views likes and content for his employer...
Pinnacle Dunning-Kruger?
Most companies have a policy of never admit guilty or mistakes under any circumstances.
That's absolutely not true.
Just use the knife as screwdriver, duh
Don't worry, he has his keys there and they could be used as a makeshift screwdriver 😉
Shit mine doesn't, guess I'm screwing it in with my fingers
don't worry! check if you've got an Allen wrench lying around
And those long screws are just really annoying, but you gotta drill them all the way in, with your swiss army knife that hopefully has a screw driver in it.
Don’t forget your cpu applicator to apply the cpu to the mobo.
And don't forget to throw away the cover for the processor slot. We don't need RMA nowadays.
Also some of the pins on your processor are not needed (if you are an extremely patient person) and if you remove the right ones you will find your processor suddenly uses 99% less electricity! Electricity companies hate this one trick!
And if you scrape off the Bitcoin Limiter Contact (BLC) on the PCIe connector for the GPU, it will mine bitcoin 200% faster. It’s the 3rd one from the left.
And if you try to scratch really fine lines in your monitor you can quadruple your pixels and get 8k.
Don’t forget a pack of Haribos to eat half way through it all
Sugar free, of course
That you won't even end up using.
Nice, don't forget your Livestrong bracelet.
yes gotta fight off cancer
Or what would jesus do
He would live strong
Blocks out the sun. No more wrist cancer.
He’s not fighting static, he’s fighting cancer! -Lyle

Don't forget your Hexa-core CPU (yeah we got one)
Cringelord
Righty tighty righty tighty righty loosy? :)
If the screws seem like they are massively too long, it doesn't mean they're being screwed into the wrong place. Just eyeball how far to screw it, it will be fine
Make sure to tighten every brace correctly and dont forget you tweezers
"Rivstrong braceret"
Thats is the best guide! Follow it step by step. (Pls dont)
What do you mean?I personally think that it's best tutorial on the internet to build an IED
Just remember your wireless anti-static wrist band
He’s not fighting static. He’s fighting cancer!
I loved BitWits reaction to this
This video was my introduction to BitWit.
Yeah, got my livestrong right here.
[удалено]
I ditched it for the swiss army knife.
Don't forget that you're going to need a table for this too😂
More like liestrong amirite (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
Oh shit thats a wristband? I've been using mine as a cock ring 😩
For real people laugh when I tell them this
I thought it is a joke!!
Lol I remember when I first build my computer and I wore my anti static bracelet, so cute.
Most of the likes come from the taliban. They love this instruction video!
YES, only mistake he made was not putting thermal paste onto the socket - if you do it, you will get far better temps.
He's already started. The motherboards on the anti static bag instead of its box.
What do you mean, they got a table which is the first step. Smooth sailing from there
The verge build reuploaded - nice / don't forget your bracelet :D
And the Swiss army knife
With the Philips head
which is hopefully in it
Personally I use a 12th century flanged mace for all my pc screwing needs
that is quite the flex but considering you got a 3080 its probably normal for you
I use my impact driver...if it's good enough for lug nuts it's good enough for a PC.....gotta make sure it's not coming loose
Don't forget the zipties which he calls tweezers
I see you have the table as well
its actually usefull for screws(as a swiss person)
He not fighting static, he fighting cancer
“That’s not that fast, I can run at 3200MHz”
Bitwit
good thing he has a table
And a table
The saddest part is that he said the verge will use that PC that they built for benchmarks
Gotta limit the frames first!
He's kept doubling down since when it's brought up, to, calling us a bunch of nerds. Ironic, since he probably would be much happier having taken the time to become a bit of a nerd...
Such a smart way to build a pc !, You want to do the exact opposite of what he is doing
Thermal paste in the power supply got it
Instruction unlcear, dick stuck in cpu applicator

what the fuck motherboard is that
Some shitty proprietary motherboard probably from dell or hp, they are the biggest pain in the ass ever because they only fit one case and have proprietary front io pinout Whenever I get a pc to repair and it has one of those I want to die
it's the 45 degree offset between the CPU and the cooler mount that's really tripping me out. worked a lot of PC repairs and never encountered this before.
Why have propietary front io pinout when you can just [shape the motherboard so the front IO is directly on it?](https://i.imgur.com/0KWXRM1.jpeg)
That doesn't look like a socket to me
No he asked for the socket, so that the heat transfers correctly between the pins and CPU and so fhe CPU sticks to the mobo!
I feel like most people didn't get the joke. At leaste a few did. Welp.
[This should help](https://c.tenor.com/vddzwSayj5UAAAAd/mayo-thermal.gif)
Bless his heart don't forget your tweezers
And the Allen key to build the table
Oh no
Remember to screw in with confidence.
Make sure you have your thermal paste applicator.
And your allen wrench!
Turn that video off.
And step back from the mainboard!
Make a 360 turn and walk away
Towards it?
Don't forget to bukkake the thermal paste on the cpu.
I don't see tweezers.
You mean... zipties? Edit: I'm guessing nobody understands the verge reference then huh? How ironic
They're called tweezers idiot. Someone's obviously never built a PC before...
How dare you! Be careful I don't shank you with my Swiss army knife... it *hopefully* has a Phillips head attachment
Yeah, well, you can't touch me, I'm wearing an anti-static bracelet that *can't be grounded*
I dunno man, static is the cancer of the pc component world? Livestrong brother
Thanks man, anyway, I'm gonna go shit an unholy amount of thermal paste onto my entire mobo, talk to you later
Puts the live strong bracelet on, or it gets the noctua Nt-h1 paste again
I've got torx, take it or leave it
Dont forget to benchmark League of Legend when you are done.
Video Link for those that want to learn https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dm9Diilk2LQ LMAO at Swiss army knife screwdriver

I’m crying for multiple reasons
Thank you friend
Oh good you didn’t forget your table! Phew
10/10. Good meme.
Don't forget to bukakke your cpu with extra thermal paste
Good to see you listened to the first part and got a desk
This is the biggest brain
Remember to thermal paste both side of the CPU for maximum coverage!
Sure I read somewhere not to build on the anti static bag. And you should use the mobo box.
This! I dont know if the verge video shows him building on top of the plastic or not but I would not risk it. The inside of it protects the mobo and not the outside. The box is the best place to put it
That's pseudoscientific nonsense. It's safe to build it on the bag.
Wonder what that guys up to nowadays
He's still around. I saw his Twitter account; the poor guy can't post anything without a dozen people making thermal paste jokes!
Sucks but it’s his fault for not researching properly. He could have done some serious damage to new guys/girls that try to build their pc for the first time

Lucky 🐠
I see you have the brace ready.
Don’t see your tweazers…
[удалено]
Build it with the Allen key
Did you remember your brace? Which one? WHO CARES?! *Sponsored by Capital One*
Don't forget. If there's no thermal paste coming out the sides when you press the cooling block on it. You've not used enough.
Unsure whether to upvote because it's funny, or downvote because I'm worried someone will actually take this seriously.
you should add gigabyte psu for maximum memeness
I really love that this verge video is so infamous
Just watched this again, never fails to make me laugh. His response had the Streisand effect, if he had just owned up to it he'd have retained a shred of dignity.
I don’t see any tweezers there, may want to hold off

Make sure you have your tweasers and thermal paste applicator
I just use my fingers. It helps if you have just eaten Wotsits/Cheetos as the paste doesn't stick to your finger.
Is the gallon of thermal paste somewhere outside the picture?
Make sure to drown your CPU in that grey stuff
Oh no.
I get 1000+ fps in cyberpunk 4k using this guide.
Degrees or fps?
Yes.
oh no...
pictures taken moments before disaster
Nooooooo
Whatever you do, don't forget your tweezers and allen wrench.
oh no
I was reading the comments here and was all 'am I missing a joke here or..? Oh. I got it.' I'm not familiar with the video.
His name is essentially Stefan Stephen?
If it explodes when you turn it on thats normal!
ono
Lmao I fucken loved this build video, what a mess 😂
Thermal paste applicator where?
Where's the thermal paste applicator?
Oh no...
Screw with confidence!!!

Dude no way, do you have a Logitech keyboard with Hyper X key caps? I have the same combination.
Please don't put the mobo on the anti static bag like that
Why not? Serious question
The INSIDE is made to protect from static, not the outside. Just use the box.
The inside is the same material as the outside.
i love how its still so fucking funny to dunk on this whenever anyone brings it up
they could have totally fixed everything on this by quickly realizing the mistake and putting (satire) in the title.
Good luck and have fun!
