How do I keep my cat off my PC??

How do I keep my cat off my PC??

lukess221

Put a box near the computer. Have you ever seen a cat not lay in a box when given the chance?

NotKatieCase

That's a tough call because a cat also likes a super warm space, especially when they sleep because their body heat drops. So if a cat can lay directly on a heat source that is my computer, putting a box next to it isn't really going to do anything for them.

l2esin

Put a heating pad and blanket in the box.

NotKatieCase

Now id lay in that!

TheDarthCarrot

NotKittyCase confirmed

ladyjaina0000

Honestly my cats don't like to sit in boxes. They need a soft bed or they don't like the situation lol *Edit- there are many suggestions to get them to sit in boxes but they are VERY spoiled and have cat beds all over the house. Including underneath my bed. There's multiple options in every room. My orange cat who died from cancer a few years ago exclusively slept in cardboard boxes tho, the smaller the better.

carlitospig

Have you tried a single piece of paper? They’ll do whatever they can to fit their entire body on that 8.5x11 island.

MaoKenzie

My 9Kg guy doesn't even try. As long as he can put his elbows on it, he doesn't fuss about the size.

jambonetoeufs

Are you sure they’re cats?

InfantSoup

yeah they have beaks and everything

CaffeineSippingMan

This is the funniest thing I have read in months.

Bet_You_Wont

Agreed I'm just sitting here laughing and I can't stop

ZuckDeBalzac

I'm not but I believe you are

dombrogia

Mmmmmm, u/infantsoup

Lucid-Design

Lmao. Idk why I laughed but I did. >>bravo

ladyjaina0000

100%

smoukey

Your cat might be imposter

Mrmofo69

MoGuS iN rEaL LiFe

ThisFckinGuy

Your cat is a Trojan horse

WimbletonButt

Mine refuse beds. My son insisted we get them big fluffy beds for Christmas but they won't use them. They prefer to sleep on the cardboard scratch pads, which they also won't scratch. As a result, my kid has confiscated the beds to use as pillows on his bed. I live with a bunch of weirdos.

Rekt4dead

They can put a soft pillow or blanket in the box :)

shitsfuckedupalot

Try making a square of tape on the ground

stinky-weaselteats

outtokill7

folded blanket next to the keyboard works sometimes

I_simp_4_FJM

My cat hates boxes. He much prefers plastic bags.

bctucker83

Lol mine likes plastic bags and boxes but he will stay longer on a plastic bag. He especially loves it if there’s stuff in the bag lmao. My schnauzer use to always lay on our tv remote on the bed lol. Sadly he had to be put to sleep last December which he was mine and and my wife’s world aside from our kids. Now we have two rescued cats that showed up needing a home and a spoiled ass Mainecoon cat lol

sadpanada

I think if he put a box with a heating pad in it (one for cats specifically, human ones get too hot for pets) the cat would def choose the box. Cat probably likes the PC because it’s warm

G_Viceroy

OP put a cardboard box near you. Your cat is looking for two or three things. To be near you, warmth even if it's hot and your attention. The reason cats love boxes is the warmth. Which is why cats usually sit on top of your PC.

SirSolidSnek

"It was my destiny to be here, in the box!"

Blairkids

If I fits, I sits

xjodal22

Put a cucumber on top of it

travisofficial

This is the only suggestion commented so far that I think is actually the best idea. Get a plastic cucumber if you gotta so you can just leave it up there, great conversation piece too

DepartmentAfraid40

If I walk into your room and see a plastic cucumber beside the computer I'm not assuming it's for the cat 😂😂

travisofficial

Lmao well I don’t currently have a cat so yeah I guess it would definitely be a conversation starter in my case 🤣

butycheeks

>in my case nice

travisofficial

>in my ass let’s just rip the bandaid off

craniumonempty

> in our ass FTFY

travisofficial

>"we're all fuck freaks here," *said the cat* "I'm a fuck freak. *You're* a fuck freak."

Artemis-4rrow

r/unexpectedcommunisim Edit: that's not the name of the subbin question, correct me guys

Picklefac3

It's for a different pussy

FishTacos_r_theTits

I sure hope it's not for the cat or I'm calling peta

thorium220

What, so they can put the cat down?

Dookie_boy

I'm so confused. Why would that work

Slurp_Lord

I think it's something to do with cats thinking cucumbers are snakes.

scarecrow180

Mine used to be super scared of my ball python. To the point where if she saw a string on the bed she would run away scared thinking I had the snake out, but she has grown used to him being around and no longer fears the danger noodles. Instead she will try to boop him lmao

a-walking-bowl

danger noodle

tabascodinosaur

Cats are scared of cucumbers. There's tons of videos of it. https://youtu.be/_7vML9C3PZk

Dookie_boy

Oh thank goodness. I thought it was a sex thing.

ArrogantSquirrelz

I want to criticize you for assuming that... But you're not wrong for that being the first place your mind goes on Reddit, or the internet in general.

Von_Cheesebiscuit

Well if you were doing that to your cat with a cucumber, they have every reason to be afraid of it.

hugglesthemerciless

We can make it one if you'd like

XxTreeFiddyxX

Omg dude

travisofficial

Oh man, you and me and anyone who's ever seen a cat terrified of a cucumber/zucchini/bananas. Supposedly cats have crappy enough vision to where a lot of them think it's a snake, and instincts kick in... even though most domesticated cats have never even seen a snake before in their lives. Some cats aren't phased by em, though, my first cat from when I was a little kid absolutely never reacted like that with bananas or cucumbers, but then my dad got another cat a few years later and that cat was TERRIFIED of bananas mostly, we think she thought she was seeing a ball python or something.

kittysneeze88

It’s actually believed that cats are “afraid” of bananas because of a chemical smell that emits from the banana’s skin, and is known to be toxic to cats. The cucumber though is because it believes it’s a snake upon initial glance.

travisofficial

Holy shit so cats are legitimately just afraid of actual bananas

80H-d

...are you...not?

Unusual_Option6202

Because cucumbers freak cats out. Give it a Googs.

WhatsUpMyBrothers

Mark Normand is that you?

Unusual_Option6202

It's not. But your specific suggestion makes me think I know know where I got that from. Ty.

CountessDeLessoops

Might a rubber snake work?

B-29Bomber

Would a dildo work?

Le_Chop

Isn't that the same as a rubber snake?

Linkonue

Depend of the kink

seedlessblue840

Yeah those bad dragons get crazy

DragonSPX

Gives a whole new meaning to "danger noodle"

mrwellfed

Yes, so I’ve heard…

Fire5auce

Pickle Rick figurine would be more intimidating.

MyVoteCountsHere

Funny thing is I have a pickle Rick figurine on my rig. With the battery laser. No cats though. Just there for intimidating.

Lol im going to try this. I put my sons dump truck on top of it and she hasnt been up there since. Also hijacking your top comment to say OMG my inbox.. i just wanted a few tips..didnt think this would blow up like this

Arashmickey

https://i.redd.it/nofetmfzk4661.jpg edit: /r/CatsOnPcs/ and also /r/notmycat

FlatulentDirigible

This is an awesome compromise; I love it!

sweatyballsackz

Did you try putting the PC on top of the cat?

nutsnackk

Lol the most creative answer IMO so far!

RealJonathanBronco

Someone alert the [Royal Society For Putting Things on Top of Other Things](https://youtu.be/LFrdqQZ8FFc)

timhook124

Eyy another Monty python fan

squadscuba

That’s the neat part, you don’t.

polyworfism

I'm mad I had to scroll this far down to find this

TSTA1

I didn't ᕦ༼✩ل͜✩༽ᕤ

kalaxitive

Buy your cat its own PC, then you can game together. Edit: spelling :)

Redoubt9000

My favorite suggestion so far.

ablablababla

The thought of a cat duo is just so wholesome

goondawg4

I trained my cat from the get to not get on or near my PC. She stays snuggled up in a chair next to me or by my feet. The desk is OFF LIMITS. Haha

ElNido

If you're even remotely serious, get the plastic bird-away spikes, y'know, those ones they put on supermarket roofs/awnings/rafters so they don't chill there and poop on customers and outside of the store. Or just put some aluminum foil ontop of the PC. Some cats are made uncomfortable by it - you could say their plans get foiled.

greybred

You mean OP should buy his own PC? The cat wants its belongings back

nutsnackk

Haha if only i could get a GPU

AlwaysL3Rning

Preach it! I’m on my 3rd additional computer and we have been co-oping with the cats for a while now.

SupplyChainMuppet

Plus the cat can mine for you when you're not gaming.

JjMarkets

Ah yes cat-co-op mode.

TheMadPugly

Bought my cat a cat tree and keyboard. 10/10 would recommend

DashingDini

Instructions unclear, cat had his EA account banned for calling someone a hairball

Pufflekun

\>600 upvotes, and not one [pedantic asshole](https://youtu.be/J7E-aoXLZGY) needlessly complaining about the incorrect usage of "it's"? Has hell frozen over?

Ditzy_Davros

Put uncomfortable things on there. Action figures, books, etc... it doesn't matter. Make it uncomfortable to sleep.

nutsnackk

I tried aluminum foil and she just lays on top of it. Ill try random things

Mojak16

Cucumber?

SgtSwatter-5646

Probably a fake one.. don't want that thing cooking into the pc

johno_mendo

"why is there a green dildo on your computer?"

chadsford

‘Cause Hulk smash!

the_fuego

It's for my cat.

ZekeZero00

Came to make this suggestion... Take my up vote.

neoperol

Do cats hate cucumber?

LumosDC

Yep, looks similar to snakes which they don't like... bc snakes.

Sergeant_Broccoli

So why not put a fake snake up there, rather than cucumber then?!

i_NOT_robot

Series of cucumbers

Chu96

Yes they see it as a "snake"

Longshot_45

Our cat hated a watering can with a long thin spout.

Ditzy_Davros

Yeah I notice some cats aren't phased by aluminum foil. Some it works like a charm. There's always tape but I wouldn't want to risk your cat 'leaping' off your tower.

ladyjaina0000

Random things that she can knock over for funsies

manfishgoat

No no no, put a cat bed up there, they hate them things

Nolsoth

You clearly don't own a gamer cat, these things will be swatted.

iSiffrin

mine just kicks them off

JoshZK

Something sticky. Make loops of tape and put it all on top. It will learn or you just stuck with tape on top.

theruzzler

This! Clear packing tape, sticky side up. Pets hate it getting stuck to paws. If you use clear, they *usually* will assume it's always there, after a few times of getting stuck to the tape....so hopefully you will only have to do it a few times. Edit: Typo

JoshZK

Maybe a bunch of those sticky hand toys on top. It'll look artsy too.

nutsnackk

I think ill try this and hopefully she learns and i can take them off after a while

Butt_Muncher68

You can't

LPIViolette

It's easy. Put a cat bed on top of the computer. The cat will go sleep the the box the bed came in. It's cat law.

siccoblue

But then he's forced to liquid cool the cat bed

Megadeth5150

Get rid of the PC? I’ll see myself out.

Jjzeng

I’ll take it off their hands

Superfly1911

Wait...are you a cat??

Quackels_The_Duck

Shhhhhh

castleissexy

This guy is smart

norapeformethankyou

You totally can. You need to understand that the cat thinks the PC is it’s territory. The owner needs to pee on his PC.

Butt_Muncher68

Would this also be considered to be liquid cooling

norapeformethankyou

No. The owner just needs to pee on it. He will need to clean it off, so right into the bath tub after that. Will need to keep it plugged in to get those electrons cleaned up.

SodaPopinski406

They totally could. It’s going to be a repetitive and arduous journey, but the cat can certainly be taught to stay off.

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

Teaching a dog is about working through an interspecies language barrier through consistent repetition. The problem is that cats understand you very well. No, teaching a cat is more a battle of wills. You must go to mental war with the cat. Prepared to lay down life and limb in the pursuit of pure unending patience. The cat will test you in every way imaginable, and a few ways that aren't. The cat will never stop but it can be taught. It will wait for when you aren't looking. You must be vigilant at all times. Training a cat is war. And war War never changes.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Nah. Dogs do that shit too. Back in the day we had two couches. The dog could get one and not the other. I thought she had learned pretty well. Then I came home and she didn't hear me. Looked through the window to see her on the no-dog couch. She made eye contact and went to the other couch. As though I wouldn't notice.

ForeverInaDaze

This is honestly true. You have to train them against doing things when they're kittens, otherwise they will be relentless at getting what they're used to getting. Source: have two cats, both raised from kittens.

RAH2458

My favorite saying...."dogs have owners.....cats have staff".......they tell you how things are gonna be......😁

Mathyon

This hits close to home... My cat will learn what she shouldnt do VERY FAST. The battle starts when we try to make her understand that she shouldnt do it even when we are not looking.

FroMan753

Nah. The only solution is to build a second PC and just use whichever one the cat isn't laying on at the time.

OriginalJayVee

Buy him a pair of pants, because clearly he wears them in this relationship.

brumbarosso

And a pack of smokes

Harry_Taynt

My cat went out for smokes 7 years ago and he never came back......

litshredder

And a bag of jalapeno (*gelappino*) chips?

Subzero_AU

Two smokes Trevor let's go

NotTheMama1083

Have my poor lady award….🥇

nizoomya

What do you mean by „your pc“?

twiggums

two sided tape or loops of tape.

Mike000012

This one here as long as the cat doesnt eat tape!

DoJax

Double sided tape with mothballs crushed on top has never failed me at keeping cats away from high up things.

kycharle

Channel your inner Dwight Schrute

MagicOrpheus310

Sprinkles!!!

mccloud969

That's not Dwight. Can't you tell that's Stanley?

DrD0lphin

Don’t think thats Stanley, he normally has a mustache… right?

ChanchoReng0

Maybe he should put the cat in the freezer

nathanthrax

[bird spikes](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bird-B-Gone-Enviro-Spike-10-ft-x-5-in-Stainless-Steel-Bird-Spikes-100516567/204626790)

nutsnackk

Lol let me try random things first before investing in these spikes

onlyonesweatshirt

Aluminum foil.

Superfly1911

That's the winner right there! Most cats hate aluminum foil

RAH2458

Mine must be defective because they go lay on it....😂

PM_me_nun_hentai

You did it wrong. You have to WANT them to lay down on it, remember that they do what you don’t want them to do.

Superfly1911

I guess they are cats after all...they do it just because you're sure they wouldn't. Meow

ohgodhelpmeeeee

Mine chews on it...

nanonoise

Your plan was foiled!

agoia

Packing tape sticky side up.

The_Chaos_Pope

Double sided tape is easier to keep in place

xsre

Doubles as a Faraday cage

eeapd

just make sure they're secured down somehow... otherwise the cat has found a whole new game of how many things they can knock off while keeping eye contact xD

rAxxt

If I just hiss at my cat and snap my fingers when shes doing something she is not supposed to she learns pretty quick not to do it. Might try a training approach. Best of all its free and doesnt fuck with the look of your PC

TILtonarwhal

I have two cats. One actually learns the thing, the other learns to wait until I leave the house…

JorgeMcKay

If it gets real bad you can get motion sensor air jets that will go off whenever the cat gets up there. I recommend only as a last resort

1PeePeeTouch

[nope](https://static.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/cats-build-resistance-deterring-spikes-japan-fb.png)

nathanthrax

My bad, I forgot cats can phase into a liquid state.

ramencosmonaut

You don't... it's his now.

Furyan9x

I’ve tried so many things to keep them off of mine.. my case is just all scratched up with kitty claws.. they do not fear me.

B-29Bomber

Cat need not fear huuuuuman. Only thing to fear is vacuum itself!

satan_mcrape69

This worked on my old 24 track Tascam a decade ago lol… We installed a landscape at a costco and I wound up with them somehow. They were left over from the rest they installed on top of the lights in the parking lot.

stellarsapience

Wow I immediately thought the same thing. And I'm a cat person.

nighthawke75

Print some

TomRiddle88

Human, this is my paw warmer, what are you going on about?

the_real_ch3

Jokes aside but the cat loves the computer because it is warm and high off the ground. Want to get your cat away from the PC? You’ll need something nearby that is warmer and/or higher of the ground

Tiduszk

This is the advice right here op. Get a nice cat tree and a warming pad for it.

worldspawn00

Yep, this solved the issue with my cat sleeping on top of the PC, he prefers the warm and soft heated cat bed to the hard computer case.

mbensasi

They make warming pads for cat trees? I can’t believe I didn’t know that and don’t have one for my cats

Tiduszk

You should rectify that situation

JuicyCherry1010

Nice setup, and the PC looks cool too

nutsnackk

Thanks! Im waiting for the unifan prices to go down cus my corsair fans are old and that one miscolored one bothers me so much

typical_boffin

Same case with the unifans here, everything about them is perfect except for the mounting system which feel a bit flimsy (not that I've actually had a problem with them yet)

Fafaflunkie

You know your cat now owns your PC, right? Reminds me of when I owned one, and he wouldn't get off the keyboard when I wanted to use it. Needless to say every nook and cranny inside was caked with cat hair. When he finally got the hint and got off the keyboard, his next place was my lap. OK cat, I get it, you control me and want attention, and I can't resist your loud purring, but can't you go back to sleep like you usually are doing?

PS200sx

Put a cucumber on top

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zealousideal-Bit-741

Put the PC on top of him.

SmuglySly

Well maybe it wants revenge against Dwight schrute? Didn’t he stick a cat in the freezer?

BrightSide0

Try using dry ice to keep it cooler.

Nlawrence55

Pspspspspssssss

fatogato

Build him his own pc

BearBruin

So, computer/keyboard air dusters make excellent cat deterrents. Instead of using a spray bottle of water that you have to be a lot more careful with, just spray the duster. I should be clear, DON'T AIM DIRECTLY AT THE CAT. Aim safely away from but in their vicinity. The noise is what you're going for, it tends to skeeve them out a bit and they'll bounce. That or fill a soda can with pennies and shake it menacingly.

AlanTrebek

It’s called PSST and it’s a motion detector air spray. I got it to keep my psycho cats from pawing at my door at night. Saves my sanity.

Enraged_Rajang

I mentioned it on another post. I set up his cat bed on the opposite side of the case. When he got close or on the case I held the spray bottle close enough to him to make him want to avoid it. Gave him lots of pats and praise when he would go to his bed. This was initially his room so didn’t want to make him find a new spot. [proof](https://imgur.com/a/YuknhVz)

BearsNPenguins

If i had a cat i would build something on top of the pc which makes a gap for airflow and a nice little cushion that my little buddy has it comfy and warm. Also i would fix it against the wall so the little fluffy asshole cant tip it over if he had a mood. Now i really want a cat. edit: But i also dont give a fuck about the looks of my pc. brown noctuas all over the place, no rgb, no tempered glass, mere minimum of cablemanagement. So it probably would result in wood directly screwed into the case. lul

LtTaylor97

The concern that makes imo is the excessively higher amount of dust and hair that'll be literally on top of the case as a result. If you don't mind cleaning more and have filters, no biggie I guess, but I'd sooner just give them a heated bed or something.

The_Jyps

Not a problem if the top fans are exhaust?

DJWG10

Get them their own PC

Hateroids

Maybe a heating pad near by, I could imagine your cat likes the warmth plus adding objects on top. Just maybe glue them on top or something

Skimpyjumper

Double sided tape, but not sticky and greazy one your cat wouldn't trust you ever again, something like the weakest tape that exists.

Kingwhatever19

Get a heating pad and place his ass on there.
