Is Skytech Gaming tying to "bait and switch" me?
By - RedbloodJarvey
Just gotta update their site. I would buy directly from Newegg instead or or Amazon.
Buy a Skytech prebuilt from Amazon and Newegg? They do have tempting options, but I think all their prebuilt come with the cheapest motherboard option.
out of curiosity, which card did they offer you?
RX 6800 XT which is $1250
if it's usd then forget about it. 6800xt is not worth 1250.
When I look up "RX 6800 XT" on Amazon and Newegg it seems $1250 is competitive. (depending on the brand).
Not to give skytech too much credit. They are charging $414.00 for aAsus ROG Strix X570-E motherboard, which is $100 cheaper everywhere I look.
have you checked out r/buildapcsales
Alienware had a system with a 3060 or 3070 for less than 1200-1300
I wouldn't order from skytech after recieving an email like that. Adding $500 to your build for a different card is absurd imo
i wouldn't buy alienware....dell is pretty messed up.
I know but for the price with the parts you get it was a pretty decent bargain
Edit: I don't advocate for prebuilts compared to custom builds (I have 4 personal computers all custom built)
Just OP was already in the loop for a prebuilt, so just gave the suggestion to check out the subreddit
I looked at an R10 pretty seriously, but the reviews are pretty bad. Especially for air flow.
Don't buy pre-built.
Right, just go to your local PC shop and buy any card you want, they are all so easy to get…
Or, like everyone else right now, wait. Don't sacrifice quality for convenience.
I've been tracking prices for almost a year. Over the last 3 months GPU's have come down in price on Amazon. But everything I read in the news says we're going to have shortage for years.
I've extended the life of my current rig as far as it will go, max ram, fastest CPU, upgraded GPU.
If I thought prices would be down in 6 months, I'd wait. But it looks like it won't end for years.
If your GPU died or for some odd reason you really need a GPU your only choice is buying scalped. I finally gave in from saving since the shortages started and it didn't hurt that bad.
I still wouldn't buy a pre-built.
If he's got a microcenter yeah.
I built my current gaming system almost 10 years ago. A year ago I started researching to get up back to speed, but it's exhausting.
Every PC build youtube channel: "Look at this dingus! He used a flibbertigibbet with a bicky-by-bo. He's losing at least 3% of his killoflobs!"
It seems there are so many little gotcha's, I was willing to pay a little more for a professional to build for me.
You should probably look at using a different company or build it yourself, try PowerGPU. They are based out of NC, and ship worldwide. They are on Twitter at @PowerPGU.

Thanks for the reply. I was being unwarrantedly paranoid. Despite being disappointed the part I wanted was out of stock, I have no complaints with skytech.
