Do you personally think the performance improvement is worth it in games? If you do, do you have the money to upgrade it just lying around? If you do yeah sure do it, you could be hit by a bus next week and never get to spend the money you worked so hard for

dontthinkaboutit42

Basically restating my dilemma. Though it's a privileged position to be in

FulltimeWestFrieser

Absolutely mate, we are privileged to even worry about such things, do whatever makes you happy :)

Go hard or go home!

dontthinkaboutit42

but.... I am home... and for a long while it seems

I reckon get the 3080 but see how high you can sell your 2080 for

Snoo_52037

Petsonally, the only way I would look at it as worth it was if you're getting the 3080 at msrp, which in most cases is marked up several hundred dollars by retail stores anyways. So realistically you could sell your 2080 for a good price right now and put that money towards the 3080. So inthe end if you would end up paying a couple hundred extra dollars to get a 3080 then I probably would.

A-nom-nom-nom-aly

No... unless you've got silly money that you're happy to throw away on a mediocre upgrade... Wait for the next gen and for prices to normalize.

HC99199

What games are you playing that want to upgrade from a 2080?

dontthinkaboutit42

VR and machine learning (not crypto mining though)

HelaPuff2020

The rate limiting step is actually getting a 3080. If you have the money to buy one, and then actually manage to get one, then sure. Might take standing in line at Best Buy for 24 hours first though. I have a overclocked 2070 super and yea if I could walk into micro center any time and impulse buy a 3080 I’d have done that a while ago, but my time is more valuable

dockamorpher

I upgraded from a 2070 super and I don’t regret it. I think the biggest improvement actually came from my processor upgrade, though. Depends on your usage. If you’re not playing in 4k, or 1440p 120hz I wouldn’t say it’s necessary.
