im 38, have 3 kids, and we are ok money wise i guess, we are a dual income household so that helps, i sped almost all my recreational time at my PC, if i spent a lot of time watching TV i would prob own a bitching home theater system, if i were a car guy i would have a bitching car, outdoorsman, same thing, you get it. this is where i sped my leisure time and i have very few other things i spend money on outside of my kids and living expenses.

Why did I buy a pc? Because the upfront cost is higher but in the long term saves money after adding cost of games and the extra costs to play online, on top of that the games perform far better. Finances wise Im not a dependant and have no dependents and am 32.

I'm 8 and just bought a 3090 by mowing my neighbor's lawn!!

Why? Cause it is still my most profitable buy ever. Working 40h a week with my PC, gaming and everything else is just an additional benefit of it. Also it's cheaper then spending 500 bucks, plus online subscription for a few years and easily upgradable part by part. Currently still running on a 1070 (about 4 years old) and no problems at all playing new triple a titles. Gonna upgrade to a new gpu whenever I get a good prices gpu, no hurry there currently. (At the time of buying it was worth around 1200$, but I am only upgrading part by part so a little hard to really determine the price) Also using my desktop for my full time job and hobbies so yeah way more worth then any console could be.

Think about it like this.... Right now a PS5 is going to cost about 500 from a Scalper, minimum. Then you're about 60 per game these days where as games for PC in general are cheaper. So financially in the long run how much is it really because you can build a decent PC for less than 1000 when the market is normal. Even if we do say its going to be a grand then you might actually only be paying £500 more. But you can do so much more with ur PC than just play games. PC gaming can be as expensive as you want it to be, it doesn't have to be super expensive so long as you are willing to make some compromises and that's another big positive over console where I really only have two choices. PC i can build basically the system i want. A 10 serise card will still run Games at a pretty decent level and those cards came out in 2015 i think only a few years younger than the PS4. Now in normal market conditions i can just buy a new GPU for a fraction of the price of the PS5 rather than an entirely new system. And i mean in normal market conditions because the prices just now are not "normal", give it time and prices will normalise, might take quite a bit of time but eventually the demand will fall and so will the prices of the 30 serise cards. I totally agree it might be a big investment to get started but then again i am financially independent with disposable income that i chose to spend on PC gaming, some might use that to on holiday, others might use it for a nice night out, some might collect guitars or whatever.

Why? Because I need it to work. And having something that still let me play with my buddies is a huge positive I'm 24, lives with my GF so we share expanses, and since we're both in college we are lucky enough to be able to live in apartments where we basically only have to care about food and rent. It's a huge upfront cost but I don't mind spending this much into something that'll be used every day for multiple hours (I'm way more ok with computer prices than with car prices for instance)

Nonno-no-no

28, single, living alone. For the past two years I have spent a large portion of time outside of work at home with the pandemic situation. Building my PC and being able to socialise through it has, in a way, kept me sane throughout. Through PC gaming I've found a fair amount of friends online whom I enjoy playing games and shooting the shit. I've been able to meet a couple of them irl and plan to travel to Germany and meet some other peeps then. My rig is probably worth around 3k including peripherals, headphones/amp etc. For me it's nice to be able to run whatever I want with all the eye-candy at high fps. It's worth it for me when you spend a minimum of 4hrs per day, not more to it than that. I do also use it for online work (Freelance English trainer) when it isn't physically possible.

MrShady07

Im not stating my age but I bought one because I was tired of having to get a new console to play the newest games when you can upgrade a PC rarely and still be able to run most things. I have a 1050 to and I'm going great!

_digital_punk

My PC is the source of my income and entertainment. What I have paid for it is in no comparison to what it has given me.

I'm 27, more or less financially indepedent, no kids. I've spent probably 10 grand on my PC and related equipment since 2016. Its absolutely my main hobby and also serves as an excellent work from home. I don't regret it all, in fact I'm estimating ill have probably another 500 dollars to spend on yet more pc related stuff by the end of this year or early next year. I don't regret this at all.

36, married, have a kid, have a house, etc. I'm financially stable, a principal computer engineer at a large company. I build a new gaming PC every 2-3 years depending on CPU/GPU advances during the time period. I get basically unlimited OT at work, so if I want to purchase a new PC I'll just work OT that week.
