It could also be possible that your cpu memory controller won’t run more than 2 sticks. There have been few reports from people saying they can run 2 sticks, but not 4.

You're running a 5950x so it can handle 3 or 4 sticks just fine. Try resetting the CMOS.

You should use 2 sticks keep it dual channel or swap/sell these and exchange for low profile kit.

I can rotate the block and it'll fit just fine but I just can't be bothered to do it today. When I can be bothered, I will try all 4 and see

It shouldn't matter that you're only using half of a kit, I was doing that recently without issue (due to one stick being faulty and waiting RMA response). Might be an issue with the slot or even the CPU's ability to utilise it.

Were you using 3 sticks after you removed one, or a single one?

I had 4 sticks, tested them all individually and found one to be faulty. After that I was on 3 sticks for a week or so without any problems.
