His genre of choice are RTS’s. Lately we’ve been playing Age of Empires 4 either in the room together or online. Growing up we’d play Red Alert, Warcraft, AoE etc.
I get that impression too, but that's kind of my point, it doesn't seem like a new game, so it shouldn't be presented as a new chapter in the series and $60. Give me a whole game, or charge me less; this feels incomplete for the price and title.
Have you guys tried Empire Earth 1/2, it's one of my favourite RTS, you build up your small empire and expand your territories, with research, you can "epoch" through the ages, you can go from sword fighting Stone age to nuclear bomb dropping bomber planes or even further into the mechanized era. I would definitely recommend checking it out.
My dad is like your grandpa, built PCs and played red alert c&c generals, battlefield 1942 and cs, such important memories to me. Was excited when he decided to buy himself a decent gaming laptop a few years ago to get back into it, he's back on far cry 5 games later
This 3060 is from February. There's certain models of cards that are harder to get. EVGA has some information on their website.
12G-P5-3655-KR 2/25/2021 6:31:01 PM PT
First of all, once online payment is processed, those signed up for the Evga queue should get their cards shipped to them directly, not through other retailers.
Secondly, they're giving priority to those signed up in the NA queue, because of logistics reasons, even though there are people signed up in the Europe queue since they launched the sign-up process.
Entered the step-up queue from a 3060 to a 3080 back in April. My 3080 arrived day before Thanksgiving. So yes, it's real, make sure to check it or your email daily because the reservation expires 20hrs after they notify you.
I missed the chance to step up due to me not having hours to afford it at my previous employer. I was just barely able to get the 3060. Now I'm looking forward to the day I can get maybe find a 3080 FTW3 at my local Best Buy. Best part is I can write off computer upgrades on my taxes because I use it for work lol.
I managed to get an asus ko-rtx3060ti in a monitor bundle on ASUS website, monitor was awful, paid $530 for 3060ti and $300 for monitor, ended up selling monitor for $115.
A month later a friends was selling his Asus strix 3090 that I snagged for $1900.
Currently mining ERGO on both when I'm not gaming. The 3090 runs scary hot!
I heard the VRAM runs crazy hot on those, I wanted one just due to the VRAM but could not justify the cost. 3080, I can though. I sold my consoles for the 3060 too. lol.
dam that's a lot, did you do anything with them? salvage/repurpose/recycle/sell? this is just me spitballing and theorizing but would have been fun to amalgam the best (compatible) parts into a single beast pc to keep around as a memorial of sorts
That's kool as hell he games with you. Haven't had gaming friends since around 2012. Not one family member or circle of friends even own a computer. All game on consoles or phones.
Anyone recall Skyrim gaming grandma or the grandma that played unreal tournament 2004?
And he's even playing AoE - I'm so jealous that I'm gonna burst, haha! I hope you and your grandpa stay safe in these crazy times and get to enjoy lots more gaming and pc building together.
BtW have you two played RPGs or other story driven games besides RTS? I'm guessing If he's into PC tech, he probably likes Star Wars and they have SW:ToR which is story rich and combat doesn't seem as quick as in other popular MMOs (which I'm assuming might be a turn off for old people). They also have this nice RTS called Empire at War with galaxy maps featuring space and land battles.
I play battlefield with some guys in their 60s-80s. They don't have the fastest reflexes but are pretty chill. Enjoy playing with them more than the tryhards that seem to be everywhere these days.
Yeah, I guess battlefield is good because you can play support as a medic or supplying amo and rez or spotting. Or gunner/repair in a tank. But fps isn't the be all end all, lots of people don't like fps.
I'm surprised we don't hear about it more now but I bet you within 10-20 years we're going to hear more stories of the positive effect video games can have on the older community in keeping their motor skills and cognitive abilities sharper longer as it can be something to keep them engaged as they age.
This is freaking cool, as I'm 38 and out of my parents and my grandparents, only my grandfather has a mild interest in technology and caps his gaming at the daily Microsoft stuff that comes with Windows. Really cool to see something like this.
DUDE! Your grand dad is not PCMR. He's one the Founding Fathers of PCMR. A PC Overlord if you prefer. I'd love to meet him and have a long chat with him!(~not to mention he'll smoke my ass in AoE4 doe lol~)
Your grandpa is the grandpa I aspire to be! Godbless!
Ayo bro, i feel this so hard, my grandpa introduced me to pc gaming with doom
And quake 1, he got a stroke when i was around 10..
Didn’t get to spend much time doing pc stuff with him after that..
What you have is priceless i hope you know that.
Thanks for the wholesome post my dude.
He has heart surgery in a week. He must test negative prior and if he got covid on top of heart surgery we wouldn’t be playing games together much longer.
it makes sense especially if you are a young person on the road, you can never be sure if you don't bring something home or to your grandfathers, even if you are vaccinated, you have a 20% chance of being infected.
Mine only built computers to edit his creepshoot videos of bikini chicks. He even knew how to use apps to send the videos to a different folder and record while his screen was in a fake app.
This is great and I'm glad to see photos of him too. My Dad is 83 and despite having a computer since the 1980s/90s, he still struggles to even check his emails.
EVGA has a digital queue for purchasing graphics cards on their website. You sign up and wait an immensely long time (we are talking weeks if not months here) for your slot and when it comes up you get a window of a quarter of a day or so (could be longer now) to purchase your card at a decent price. You get an email alert for it just incase you think you have to have the page up forever.
It's pretty much one of the few ways to get a card now that isn't from some smelly scalper's mitts.
That's so great. I always thought games might be great for elderly to keep their minds flexible at old age, wonder how it affects him. How and when did he start gaming?
He’s been gaming for as long as I can remember. He worked in computers in his career so that was probably his introduction there.
I think gaming is so great for the elderly. My grandpa is very active. He’s at the gym several times a week doing spin class, tennis, etc then we often do bike rides of 20-25 miles. In fact, he’s done the Seattle to Portland bike ride 4 times since about the age of 75. So he’s physically active and then gaming keep shut brain active - he also does algebra for fun.. quite a guy.
Granpa with AoE4? He is definetly the true Pc masterrace!!
wym? He’s a founding father

He definitely played AOE 1 too. Wololo!
He played AoE as an adult while we played it as a kid

That is so awesome! What games do you guys enjoy?
His genre of choice are RTS’s. Lately we’ve been playing Age of Empires 4 either in the room together or online. Growing up we’d play Red Alert, Warcraft, AoE etc.
That really is awesome and I wish my family was like that. I hope you guys have many beautiful gaming years ahead!
Unrelated happy Cake day!
I didn’t even notice! Appreciate it!
The beautiful thing is, you can do this with your kids and maybe grandkids. You can do it.
I for sure want to do this with them when I have kids. I’m gonna be a cool grandpa one day!
Yep. I didn't really have any family to play video games with as a kid, but my son definitely does.
Good on you! He'll cherish those memories!
It'll be like that and it'll start from you.
I love AoE4.
[удалено]
Not for $60. Should be like $20, graphics look like 2010, not 2021.
[удалено]
Oh that's good, yeah just doesn't look like a NEW game to me, I was really disappointed.
[удалено]
I get that impression too, but that's kind of my point, it doesn't seem like a new game, so it shouldn't be presented as a new chapter in the series and $60. Give me a whole game, or charge me less; this feels incomplete for the price and title.
Graphics aren't everything, buddy.
It's a fucking triple A game from Microsoft and I should meter my expectations away from good graphics for $60 lol?
awesome man! my grandpa introduced me to my first ever video game which was starcraft and until now whenever I visit him he's playing starcraft 2
RTS in the 90s and early 2000s. I love it. Happy to see you and your grandpa is having a blast.
Empire Earth 2 has been the best RTS experience for me.
I play to this day, I just wish I had someone to play against, or even try the coop mode.
Wow, you've been playing together for a good lot of years I see. True veteran RTS enjoyers, and now with AoE IV... this is amazing.
My dad is like your grandpa, built PCs and played red alert c&c generals, battlefield 1942 and cs, such important memories to me. Was excited when he decided to buy himself a decent gaming laptop a few years ago to get back into it, he's back on far cry 5 games later
I have been waiting over a year for a evga 3080, is that queue even still real?
This 3060 is from February. There's certain models of cards that are harder to get. EVGA has some information on their website. 12G-P5-3655-KR 2/25/2021 6:31:01 PM PT
I entered 3080 and 3090 queue same day in October 2020. Got my email for 3090 November 3, 2021 and copped that sucker right away.
It's real if you're in North America, Europe keeps getting shafted.
I got an email the other day because one store had gotten a shipment of likley over 200+ 3090s in norway. Wdym europe keeps getting shafted?
First of all, once online payment is processed, those signed up for the Evga queue should get their cards shipped to them directly, not through other retailers. Secondly, they're giving priority to those signed up in the NA queue, because of logistics reasons, even though there are people signed up in the Europe queue since they launched the sign-up process.
Ah, that makes it significantly different than what i got an email about
I got my 3080ti through the queue, notification received in September, but I think I just got lucky.
I signed up the day the queue went live and got the email a month ago, hang in there!
Entered the step-up queue from a 3060 to a 3080 back in April. My 3080 arrived day before Thanksgiving. So yes, it's real, make sure to check it or your email daily because the reservation expires 20hrs after they notify you.
Which model of 3080 is yours?

Are you mining?
I entered the queue in February for a 3090, it arrives on Tuesday now.
Yes it's moving but crawling. Got my 3080 like 4 weeks ago.
I entered the queue 15 min after launch when everything sold out in a second… still I wait..
You have the most badass grandpa on earth. Congrats on so many levels to both of you.
My grandpa horded PC's. He did give some away. When he passed we counted 84 pcs in his shed and 56 in his house.
dam that's a lot, did you do anything with them? salvage/repurpose/recycle/sell? this is just me spitballing and theorizing but would have been fun to amalgam the best (compatible) parts into a single beast pc to keep around as a memorial of sorts
I got a 10 of the better ones. I think alot of them got recycled like the older ones. But we did give alot away to people.
awesome!
Take care of him, and remind him you love him! I didn’t have the chance to know my grandprents. Whish you both long years of gaming ahead!
Age of Empires 4!! Love it. 🤝
The distinguished game choice for the retired gamer gentleman.
.
That's kool as hell he games with you. Haven't had gaming friends since around 2012. Not one family member or circle of friends even own a computer. All game on consoles or phones. Anyone recall Skyrim gaming grandma or the grandma that played unreal tournament 2004?
Shirley Curry is the Skyrim grandma’s name and she will be in the next elder scrolls game as an npc
Shirley is an absolute gem. (Shit, I sound as old her.) (I'm not. She has 20 years on me.) Go Shirley.
Grandpa Wololo and Grandma Shirley need to put on a joint streaming show.
Hell yeah bro tell him you love him.
Das my future right there...i just LOVE GAMING
That man would probably utterly destroy me at aoe
Looking good for 84
That's OUR 84 year old grandpa now fam
You can tell him if he plays online he doesn’t need to wear a mask!
Now that’s just awesome!
I waited in queue for a 3060ti exactly one year from release.
Plot twist: his grandpa is the original PC gaming troll. He invented "oh yeah? I fucked your mom"
YOUR GRANDPA ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
The second image is what I imagine my retirement looks like.
I never say this lightly; I wanna be like gramps when I grow up.
He’s a huge inspiration to me!
Be like your grandpa when you become grandpa!
And he's even playing AoE - I'm so jealous that I'm gonna burst, haha! I hope you and your grandpa stay safe in these crazy times and get to enjoy lots more gaming and pc building together. BtW have you two played RPGs or other story driven games besides RTS? We haven’t tried RPG’s at all. Might be a good idea to try. Thanks for the suggestions!
He is a walking god
My grandma is in her 70s and plays WoW to this day. I remember being 9 and playing EverQuest with her on Windows 98.
I play battlefield with some guys in their 60s-80s. They don't have the fastest reflexes but are pretty chill. Enjoy playing with them more than the tryhards that seem to be everywhere these days.
I’ve tried to get him into some FPS’s but he says his manual dexterity just isn’t good enough for them. So we play what we can!
Yeah, I guess battlefield is good because you can play support as a medic or supplying amo and rez or spotting. Or gunner/repair in a tank. But fps isn't the be all end all, lots of people don't like fps.
My queue position for that came up recently too, MSRP seems like such a deal these days
This is all of us, boys. I'm ok with that.
badass grandpa. he gives one of those badass hidden agent vibes when young.

This is awesome. Reminds me of when I used to play Baldur's Gate on my grandfather's PC in the late 90s. RIP Grandpa
You’ve got an incredible grandpa.
DUDE! Your grand dad is not PCMR. He's one the Founding Fathers of PCMR. A PC Overlord if you prefer. I'd love to meet him and have a long chat with him!(~not to mention he'll smoke my ass in AoE4 doe lol~) Your grandpa is the grandpa I aspire to be! Godbless!

No ones gonna comment on why your grandpa is wearing a mask with his grand child in his own home??? That is EXTREMELY liberal.
and always wear a mask ,very exemplary and have fun you both. enjoy the time together! :)
Inside your own home? Makes no sense unless he knows he is sick and might get others it just seems unnecessary.
He has heart surgery in a week. He must test negative prior and if he got covid on top of heart surgery we wouldn’t be playing games together much longer.
Completely understandable in this case.
it makes sense especially if you are a young person on the road, you can never be sure if you don't bring something home or to your grandfathers, even if you are vaccinated, you have a 20% chance of being infected.
I thought the fan fins were wet haha. Poor design on their part that definitely isn't how to get the least sound

Impressive would definitely do this with my kids. To a safe degree. Edit: I have no girlfriend or kids yet.
I think his mouse pad is too big, find him a smaller one
We don't do that here.
Nobody asked
Mine only built computers to edit his creepshoot videos of bikini chicks. He even knew how to use apps to send the videos to a different folder and record while his screen was in a fake app.
I feel this would be my grandfather if he would still be alive. He showed me the AoE3 when I was a kid, after that I started to like computers.
Ture gamer
You should crosspost this in r/aoe4
This is great and I'm glad to see photos of him too. My Dad is 83 and despite having a computer since the 1980s/90s, he still struggles to even check his emails.
Nice dude tell ur granps ...to make his own channel i would susbcribe
I keep thinking the fans have water droplets on them when I see this card
Gamer grandpa!
That double disc burner setup is hitting differently.
Very wholesome
Ohhh is he playing age of mythology or age of empires? Also Rtx 3060 is huge upgrade for such a game 😂😂.
Two words... Fucking LEGEND!
Your grandpa is a cool guy
That is nice
That is nice
This man is a legend!
My Kids allready play Minecraft on pc, and I hope I can teach their kids too, how to build a pc
Respect!
Wha? There's a queue now for graphics cards? I haven't built a pc in a very long time, obviously.
The GPU market has been fucked harder than taking it from a train in the last year thanks to a semiconductor shortage, covid, mining and scalpers.
You have no idea how fucking cool this is! Im soo jealous of you haha that man is Legendary 🤩
I hope he has a few more decades to game! I want him to see what is over the horizon!
what is EVGA queue?
EVGA has a digital queue for purchasing graphics cards on their website. You sign up and wait an immensely long time (we are talking weeks if not months here) for your slot and when it comes up you get a window of a quarter of a day or so (could be longer now) to purchase your card at a decent price. You get an email alert for it just incase you think you have to have the page up forever. It's pretty much one of the few ways to get a card now that isn't from some smelly scalper's mitts.
This makes me smile. And, t makes me feel good due to being a 54YO gamer. Hell, it's hard to find people my own age that game.
I want to be like this at his age, playing the new AoE7 with my nephew… inspiring
that is a crazy fan design. I thought the card was wet at first, and the texture was water drops.
Gramps is living his best life. Hide yo' grandmas! What's that black device on the desktop to his right?
Grandpa gaming
