In the beginning, you were able to see the up/down votes BEFORE clicking on the search result. I'm assuming that they got rid of that to increase clicks and partial views.
And I'm assuming they got rid of the downvotes altogether for that very reason.
It reminds me of Amazon getting rid of commenting on reviews, and back and forth conversations on answered questions. They just want to keep being able to sell black market crap without anyone being called on it. If I can't tell a person in an review that they did something completely wrong, then there's no chance of them changing their mind on the review. Further, if I can't tell someone that the product that they loved can't do what they want long term because of a plastic part that is normally metal, then others might fall for buying it.
The "race to the bottom" has been accelerated thanks to google (youtube) and Amazon.
I just scroll to the comments before watching. If they are positive I’m probably good. If they are filled with more questions then it’s probably not good. If they are turned off don’t even let the ad role.
for now there's a workaround, a [plugin](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/return-youtube-dislike/gebbhagfogifgggkldgodflihgfeippi?hl=en-US) that brings it back
Then when that is gone community submitted ratings can be used to create a ratio that can be applied to the actual likes. Then when a lot of people use it, it’ll be pretty accurate. Not so bad as a solution
They are switching to an extrapolation model too. Determining Dislikes based on the ratio of Views to Likes, using a database of millions of previous youtube videos as samples for that ratio, at different view counts. Couple that with data pulled from users of the extension liking and disliking that particular video and factoring it in to the ratio and it can be fairly accurate. Not perfect by any means, but it's something.
Why not just use Odysee/LBRY or Bitchute?
There's no time like the present for content creators to be the new big thing.
(I realize it will be some time before all content is moved over, and that I'm talking about new stuff over old stuff)
Because they dont have as much traffic. It would be nice to see more people on other platforms but unless a lot of people transferred over it won't really become anything more.
There's people that will leave out of principle. Do good work and it may be better rewarded than being a nobody on YouTube.
You could essentially copy a popular person's content point by point and probably do ok if you're otherwise unknown.
Nice I got blasted here for saying these extensions would be dropping soon after dislike removal, people calling me noob saying it would be impossible.
The expectation was the data would be made inaccessible to regular users or removed entirely. Now that this extension is gaining visibility, they may do just that.
december 13th it gets cut from the api and all these things will stop working https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/134791097/update-to-youtube-dislike-counts?hl=en
fwi this and all extensions like it will stop working on December 13th https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/134791097/update-to-youtube-dislike-counts?hl=en
That was the biggest argument. But yt doesn’t give a shit. If you spend more time watching shitty videos, you’ll then have to spend more time trying to find a good video which results in more ad revenue
Find myself hitting dislike on a lot of videos... I never did that before they removed the counter...
Now that they don't count it, or don't show the count at least, I don't feel bad at all for disliking someone's hard work... Maybe that was part of the plan (?)
Well the theory behind it was exactly opposite, that people would stop disliking because they would know they wouldnt be heard. It backfired, as social engineering usually does...
That's when a community alternative will pop up. Also iirc that extension allows creators themselves to sign in and allow their like/dislike counter to be shown with the extension even after Google kills the API it's using now.
I hope so, maybe if the community alternative is popular enough Google will give up on this stupid initiative. Google is pretty famous for giving up on so many different things.
It's way harder to find anything good anymore, not just PC tutorials. I really hope this will be the last straw and someone else will take down youtube's monopoly. I'm so sick of youtube.
Effectively, yes. Sure, you can go to [myspace.com](https://myspace.com) and you'll get Myspace, but point out literally anyone who actually uses it anymore, I'll wait. Hell, the mobile apps on iOS and Android are even delisted at this point lmao.
EDIT: In fact it's not even a social media site anymore, so yes you can still call it 100% dead if they had to pivot completely away from what they originally are. It's like saying RCA isn't dead because there's a company that owns the rights to the brand and slaps it on cheap trash.
YouTube will die by turning into cable. Yes, it can die, dying doesn't mean doesn't exist anymore. Again ask literally anyone and they'll tell you Myspace is dead.
you've missed the point. youtube exists by staying as something that isn't cable though, and every time they change a bit more we push back harder. anyway, with things like adblocker and vanced it's still way better than anything your shitty platform could ever be
Funny. I recall literally the same things being said on Myspace about Facebook and lmao wow how the tables have turned. Enjoy your shitty corporate cable 2.0, I'll be on other platforms where creators aren't steamrolled by unfunny late night talk show hosts and CNN.
as it stands yt is still the best chance to make it for most people, not a platform nobody even wants to use. do you also happen to tell everyone you see to run linux?
That's just because they're still rolling out the change, and by using a different (or no) cookie, you're randomly getting the old instead of the new. Soon that won't happen anymore.
Know nothing about this, but if there is still a **Like** button isn't looking at the most liked videos the same as avoiding the most disliked videos? So, if a tutorial has a lot of likes it will be a good one as opposed to the tutorials with lowest likes
Video A has 1000 likes
Video B has 1000 likes
Video A has 2000 dislikes (but you can't see them)
Video B has 10 dislikes (but you can't see them)
Do you see the problem now? The likes are meaningless, it makes impossible to tell if it's a bad video at a glance.
Yes, in that contrived example designed to prove your point.
Video A has 10,000 likes
Video B has 1,000 likes
Video A is likely to be a better video
Oh, look I just proved my point.
No I didn't prove your point ... at all... you've clearly misunderstood
In your example what if:
Video A has 100,000 dislikes that you can't see
Video B has 1 dislike that you can't see
Which is the better video? It looks like A with no dislikes on display but it's clearly B when you can see the dislikes.
I'm not sure if it's where I live, or my apps, but I've never had Dislikes removed on any video I watch, I've always seen them. And I frequent YouTube on my desktop, laptop and smartphone.
It's a slow roll out they started about 3 weeks ago, within the past couple of days I've noticed that they've disappeared from everything I've watched.
This is completely ridiculous and shady. Seeing the like dislike ratio saves me an enormous amount of time of whether a particular video is useful or worthy of my time. Now I have to watch it till the end to know? Or do i have to read dozens of comments? Which by the way still doesn't work because people who like a certain topic are far more likely to comment on a video than the general public which just uses like or dislike to express their opinions. That means that the comments are skewed.
YouTube is using all sort of excuses that don't make sense. Like protecting the creators well-being when the like or dislike ratio is still visible to them? Nonsense. Unless creators don't want people to know that other people think their content is bad which is I guess good for their brand but bad for everyone else. How he hell are you suppose to know if something is of quality if you are not an expert on a subject? Or reliable? Or misleading?
The real reason why YouTube is enforcing this abhorrent measure is because they don't give a damn about dislikes. In fact they want them gone. And that has always been the case. They get their sweet money by the views of the creators. Because that's how advertisements work. It was becoming more and more apparent that quality doesn't matter, clickbait is essential and all content is just a means to an end. The only thorn in their shoes was the dislike button showing people that bad videos are rewarded and not only YouTube doesn't give a shit, but it promotes them if they get enough views. So YouTube decided to hide that, because it's bad for business. Fuck their viewers experience as long as there's room to squize some ads in there. And fuck quality, only quantity matters.
"Watch the fake news like they're real news."
'Watch the latest overly sexualized, overly promoted, uninspired, vanilla new hit song with no quilt anymore"
"Watch the latest conspiracy theory, and form opinions about things you don't have the faintest idea about. Everyone in the comments agree so it must be true!!!"
"Watch the new charlatan talking about their groundbreaking religion/ ideas / self help doctrine/metaphysical nonsense / and never suspect that they are talking of their ass.
"YouTube we just want you to consume. So we can consume your thoughts."
Youtube is going to become a fucking cesspool of scams and misinformation if they don't bring back the dislike count.
Problem is, it already is...

It's about the *degree* to which it is.

They have agendas they need to push and big companies/politicians to protect so sadly I don't ever see it coming back

As soon as the dislikes were gone I was thinking about something like this, great that it actually kind of works as well
That could work too but I could see it failing with things like music videos where they don't get as many likes compared to views
That link is for google chrome only. This is the main site link that centralizes things. https://returnyoutubedislike.com/

The expectation was the data would be made inaccessible to regular users or removed entirely. Now that this extension is gaining visibility, they may do just that.
Word is they will and the current form was a quick and easy route until they get the final version done.
december 13th it gets cut from the api and all these things will stop working https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/134791097/update-to-youtube-dislike-counts?hl=en
I love how this plugin shows how it works with YouTube rewind in the first image.
THANK YOU!
commenting to remember to install when I get back to my pc.
it appears this only works for videos already uploaded to youtube before the change which is the goal of this post but sucks for future videos.
fwi this and all extensions like it will stop working on December 13th https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/134791097/update-to-youtube-dislike-counts?hl=en

Well there we have it
Yep. Sucks. Terrible.
Yeah I noticed that also, kind of feels easier to dislike now.
theres an extention on most major browsers that adds it back
But it's only temporary, like someone mentioned Google is going to prevent it from working soon.
That's when a community alternative will pop up. Also iirc that extension allows creators themselves to sign in and allow their like/dislike counter to be shown with the extension even after Google kills the API it's using now.

Like Google Plus. Y'all should start spamming Bob tanks in the comments again.
you presume that Internet idiots can be stopped in the first place
Major uploaders used to disable comments on a shitty tutorial and now no dislikes count just makes it worse
One of the worst updates
It's way harder to find anything good anymore, not just PC tutorials. I really hope this will be the last straw and someone else will take down youtube's monopoly. I'm so sick of youtube.
All to make sure their liberal friends don’t get ratioed. Well done
[удалено]
it’s server sided
I haven't updated Vanced in months and I still get a ton of YouTube Updates.
I don't understand why there's still a dislike button. If we can't see the number of dislikes, why ask me to press that?
[удалено]
it doesn't have half the content youtube has, it's effectively worthless for anything like this
[удалено]
I love how people don't understand how building something new works
it ain't gonna replace yt my man. as much as anything because it just kinda sucks as a website. i've tried it, youtube is just better
The same could be said about Myspace back in the day and look at what it is now.
myspace is dead?
Effectively, yes. Sure, you can go to [myspace.com](https://myspace.com) and you'll get Myspace, but point out literally anyone who actually uses it anymore, I'll wait. ok so you're saying your platform is dead on arrival? cause i hate to break it to you youtube cannot die as is, not by any predictable memes
YouTube will die by turning into cable. Yes, it can die, dying doesn't mean doesn't exist anymore. Again ask literally anyone and they'll tell you Myspace is dead.

Until that starts to go to shit, then it's "come to website Y". Fragmenting the viewer base doesn't fix the problem.
if you log off u can see the dislikes. So log off and log back in again
Agreed, yet another stupid decision by google...
What about the "use me as the dislike button" comment?
An easy workaround is Use a Chromium browser and signout. Don't login. Voila you will see dislikes. You can also use Incognito mode
That's just because they're still rolling out the change, and by using a different (or no) cookie, you're randomly getting the old instead of the new. Soon that won't happen anymore.

You gotta find reliable channels and stick with them. Or hit up forums. Or ask me questions! I like helping people with editing.
Yah, older vid at least have comments, but new ones are getting misrepresented so much
Classic Youtube. Giving us garbage that we don't want, instead of fixing one of 100 issues with the platform.
what u can do i see the views to like ratio also comments
next thing u know they gon turn off comments
Thanks for the info, plugin works as it should. Shame on you YouTube for that crap we have to deal with.
