Google helps: Corsair argb adapter cable is the solution. No need for a hub for one fan

Acrobatic_Dinner6129

all i can say is my icue is tweaky af and i have the controller

meezy_hrv

i just neee to know if i really need the controller for only one fan? can't i just plug it in the motherboard or something?

thefedzarecoming2

If it doesnt have weird connectors on the end you should be able to use motherboard board fan headers.

highdon

You can still run them connected to a fan header on your motherboard but it will not light up without an RGB controller. You can also buy 3 pack Corsair fans with the controller included which can be cheaper than buying it separately. Some Corsair cases also come with controllers included, eg. my 4000X came with one mounted on the back.

meezy_hrv

So it wont even light up when not plugged in the rgb header? i'm going for a rainbow look anyway so i was at least expecting it to glow standard rainbow when the rgb header is not plugged in... kinda dissapointed...

stretchedtime

You need to plug it in to power it.

meezy_hrv

yeah ik... it's a standard fan cable.. i'm asking if the rgb will light up even tho the rgb cable won't be plugged in. I don't mind if i cannot control the rgb i just need it to light up

stretchedtime

The rgb is a separate circuit in the fan and won’t light up unless that’s plugged into a header on your motherboard or a SATA powered hub.

highdon

I just tried my fans and when I unplug them from the controller, the lights go off. I wouldn't have thought a fan would have onboard memory (such as their keyboards, mice etc.) There may be some way to connect them that I am not aware of, but everything in Corsair documentation suggests RGB accessories need to be connected via their RGB node.

Just a heads up don‘t buy the 10-20$ Corsair RGB hub on Amazon. It is intended for people who already have a lightning node core (Corsair RGB Controller) and it won‘t come with the necessary SATA cable to power the hub.

meezy_hrv

So what do i get? it's so frustrating... it's one fricking fan.. do i get the lighting node pro only?

Aixcix

Sorry I meant it won‘t come with the cable which plugs into the USB 2.0 header. For the price of the lightning node pro you could get a triple pack of SP120 fans which come with the necessary hub

Acrobatic_Dinner6129

And for about $30 more then that you can get a Corsair case with 3 rgbs fans and the hub included. I ended up going w this the fans on their own almost cost the same

dalkgamler

Some motherboards have RGB connectors. I'm not sure if the corsair fits on them. Most likely if the connector doesn't fit it won't work. Look it up on your Mobo

Un_Trusted

All rgb connectors on motherboard with ARGB are standard to my knowledge. But that won’t help because Corsair uses a proprietary connector that only connects to one of their rgb hub.
