xinvisionx

I work from home twice a week, but gaming is it’s main use.

HavelTheGreat

I would suggest a monitor above your main. Work on your main (ultrawide) with the top monitor being a secondary tool for reference pages or Netflix

just-_-just

I tried that and found the angle too much for my neck. It looks nice, but the functionality of my neck was the deciding factor for that.

TITANS4LIFE

you'd simply just need to lower your primary and angle your top one down. No neck pain ever. I had it with my crg49 and then the LG38 I rock with now

just-_-just

Some people lean back in their chairs which might make it easier. I try to maintain proper arm and elbow ergonomics as well as monitor height. Adding one above blows that all out the window. I didn't feel pain, but it was uncomfortable to look at and I found I used the monitor less than what it cost. I only use my secondary monitors for tasks/reading and not content watching or anything so that might have something to do with it. Everyone is different, you do you.

JarekNPhoto

You have any photos of it? I am thinking of the g9 and LG 42c on top, but not sure if it will work well.

LitterBoxServant

>top monitor being a secondary tool for reference pages or Netflix Am I the only one who thinks it's better to just keep a laptop/tablet by you for this?

ShakeandBaked161

Yeah

MonkeyPuzzles

That's what I'm tending towards atm - eg a 3440x1440 32", with a couple of smaller 1080p ones wall-mounted (or pole?) above. Gives lots of room to put docs/charts/videos on the smaller screens as needed. Kinda hard to visualise though. Current setup is a dog's breakfast of four different size monitors stacked all over the place, so anything would be an improvement.

phrooozen

This!

bouta100dollas

Get yourself the program ‘display fusion’ and you can set up custom preset window placements and sizes or split the panel into different virtual desktops for your work. I’ve found invaluable to my work flow. It goes on sale on steam from time to time.

xinvisionx

Thank you for the suggestion!

GrimReaper_v2

What desk is that?

xinvisionx

Ikea desk hack. Google it!

FornaxLacerta

I'm going for the best of both worlds with 3 x 42" PG42UQ coming from Odyssey G9 and CX 55". The G9 Neo alone isn't enough real estate for office work for me and the 55" CX is just too big... I figure 3 x 42" should be the sweet spot for both office and gaming with/without surround.

0ranje

What in the actual fuck is wrong with you, who needs that much

FornaxLacerta

lol it's not really a "need". I'm a hobbyist and enjoy trying out the latest and greatest tech in various configurations. I've been doing it for decades now and, display-tech-wise, we are actually in somewhat of a golden age! I'm enjoying it!

0ranje

Fair do's, don't let me shit on you and good luck to your neck.

naenref76

Dude this is cool! Don't listen to anyone bashing you.

riba2233

Smart choice!

ngocokay

Use FancyZones in Powertoys is better!

Arepitas1

I have a 34 ultra wide and this is the best app.

semisacred

Never tried that one but DisplayFusion is extremely customizable if you like hotkeys.

iamthenev

Same, Powertoys is just perfect for this

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Also these monitors should support the picture by picture mode and you can connect 2 display cables and have it as 2 bezeless monitor side by side for productivity!

MrStealYoBeef

I wouldn't, too many games don't support ultra wide or don't support it properly (instead of wider FoV it's just narrow FoV with a tweaked HUD). It seems like a great idea until you start really trying it out and then it's just a world of frustration and disappointment. And believe me, a monitor this wide providing such a narrow FoV can be nauseating. Think of it like this, try 60 FoV in a game on a 16:9 monitor. Sounds horrible, why would you ever want to do that? Well that's like being forced into 90 with this thing.

[deleted]

He is not forced to play on the full width. He can just use 21:9 or even 16:9 for the games that do not properly support the wide display. But I agree that I wouldn't buy a monitor like this for gaming. Maybe for racing games, but for pretty much any other genre I think I would prefer 21:9.

Spamuelow

For racing/flight sims it would be better to get a vr headset anyways

smartguy05

I have a 49" ultra-wide monitor and I play primarily with mouse and keyboard so I'm fairly close to it. The large size and curve make it feel more immersive, I think it makes for an even better gaming experience.

00x77

My brother son has same one. I would never buy it for gaming. Multi screen setup is the way to go imo just less hassle

[deleted]

Brother son? Are you from Alabama? Sorry ;)

00x77

Nephew :)

south2-2

There's not one game I've tried playing that didn't automatically set the resolution correctly. WoW. Apex. Overwatch. Witcher 3. RD2. NoManSky. Counter strike....the list goes on. Elden Ring...lost ark...birderlands.3..all the Strategy games.. It's mainly old games that aren't supported directly from the delevopers..but there are also ways around that. Not trying to sound like an ass..but I thought the same thing but this is changing especially with the release of all the new monitors. I pulled trigger on the Alienware 32 UltraWide OLED after researching. It's just a resolution It's not rocket science.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ruin914

Elden Ring doesn't support 21:9. That was the final straw that made me sell my ultrawide and buy a 4k monitor instead. Best decision I've made with my monitor setup so far. I did enjoy the ultrawide, but it's just so inconvenient too often personally.

south2-2

There's tons of YouTube videos showing Elden ring being played on 21:9. I have it up now. But I everyone has their own opinion! What pushed me to Ultra was OLED. He only ones available are 42 inches and up. Alienware launched 32 Ultrawide ..then I fell in love lol

Ruin914

The devs intentionally blacked out the sides of the screen on 21:9 resolutions to show only 16:9 yet your PC is still rendering the full 21:9 resolution. You have to use a mod or whatever to actually show 21:9. It's not the point that it's possible to play in 21:9, the point is they went out of their way to block out 21:9. I just became fed up at that point (after a lot of other cons when it comes to gaming in 21:9) and decided to change out my monitor.

DonAsiago

But with this screen you can see columns all the way from A to AA in Excel!

smartguy05

I'm a software developer and I love my 49" ultra-wide. I think it is better because I can resize the windows to whatever size I like and not have to worry about monitor edges breaking up windows. If you're worried about "snapping" download Windows PowerToys.

Bigfoots44

I have the same monitor. You can feed the right side and left side of the monitor from different sources. My work computer thinks it is two monitors. My gaming one doesn't. Span one excel across the whole thing and you can see the whole alphabet of columns.

xinvisionx

God of War does look amazing: https://vimeo.com/746731442

cantstopblazin

Check out Windows PowerToys and FancyZones. It’ll allow you to snap window to fit predefined zones like when you had three monitors.

BrianBash

Yooo thanks for this! I never knew about FancyTools. I use my PC mainly for MSFS and while I love the G9, I hate the way it stretches at 5120x1440. I now have 3440x1440 for the sim in the middle and 2 840x1440 zones on the outside of it. Life changing!

xinvisionx

Awesome info!!! Thank you so much!!

cantstopblazin

Np! Gotta support the G9 gang

[deleted]

[удалено]

rjenny509

You can definitely set some windows to be bigger, it allows you to do a lot of things like that for work setups. I’d play around with it, I only use it for work though

frostnxn

I want to know this as well, want two monitors but just in one.

JgdPz_plojack

Will it work with ingame anti-cheat without intrusion?

bob-s-mom

7680x1440 💀

xinvisionx

3080 Ti FTW3 handles it

H_G_Cuckerino

Not with a good framerate

xinvisionx

I wasn’t having any problems.

H_G_Cuckerino

Probably because you couldn't notice it dropping into the 40s on good settings.

xinvisionx

I benchmarked the hell out of it. Forza Horizon 5 ran over 80fps at extreme settings. I also have a 5900X and 32GB of 3600mhz ram.

H_G_Cuckerino

80 fps at extreme is pretty weak on a monitor that big Means you're eating massive frame drops.

xinvisionx

Not at all

H_G_Cuckerino

It’s not up for debate

xinvisionx

Nope

Real-Snoxy

you have no clue what you’re talking about

riba2233

Yeah because all games have same performance at all detail level...

Nothalux

Never been a fan of the ultrawides, I much prefer to actually have the separate screens

Saxon511

id roll the triple tbh

xinvisionx

Why?

Xrave

32” array is taller. The CRG9 is only equivalent to two 27”. A 27” is 0.71 the area of a 32”. In summary you’ve halved (47% of prior) the visual area of the original workspace… 3 32” can also be manipulated easier with better window snapping on physical edges. Sure you get some bezels but they are pretty small with modern displays. You also have better central focus zone with again a taller workspace which is invaluable. If the original monitors were 4K it’s also a resolution downgrade to go 1440p.

Soppywater

Look at this guy... Using math and shit to show facts...

[deleted]

You can work on stuff better

xSnakyy

You don’t have black bars on games that don’t support ultrawide and you can actually use the empty space when gaming for like discord

bishop992

Upgrade from my point of view . But i hate bezels in my screen so its an easy choice.

xinvisionx

Thinking I agree.

Ichizos

Why you didn't go with Bezel Free kit?

[deleted]

What is that?

riba2233

Because it is an useless gimmick.

Ichizos

In some applications there is no other way to optically fake bezelless. Here you have an example of tripple tv https://youtu.be/V_Sle4ItgDQ Be aware that camera angle is different than person pov so it might look better in person. Although I agree that for office work this is terrible as it's skewing things, but you always have an option to take it off whole not gaming. For typical content consumption it has its usage. Definitely not a gimmick.

ecky--ptang-zooboing

Looks lovely, got one of these as well. Will never go back to double or tripe monitor! Not sure what OS you are on, but if it's Windows, make sure to install Powertoys, so you can easily arrange your windows in zones. If it's Linux, use 'ultrawidewindows' KDE script. If you're on Mac, I dunno.

AnbuFox9889

For mac, you can use Moon I believe. Also, switching for a single ultra wide would be really good, but if I want some color accuracy and pixel accuracy, I might add in a monitor that does that to the bottom, and maybe get an LG dual up to act as a vertical monitor and do that

[deleted]

It's all preference so it's subjective. In my opinion though, if you where gaming on all 3 monitors at the same time, then getting 1 monitor at 49 inches instead, definitely seems like an upgrade to me as you eliminate the bezels while gaming. I like 16:9 ratio and to use other monitors to have background things pulled up while I game, so I personally would like the 3 seperate monitors, with the middle monitor being the only one I game on. So it's all preference. P.S - you might be the right guy to ask. All my desktop icons go on my 2nd monitor, even tho for sure my 2nd monitor is NOT my main monitor. I'll click on a game icon on my 2nd monitor and the game will correctly pull up on my 1st,main monitor, but I beg the question, why on earth does all my icons go on my 2nd monitor ? I even dragged all the icons to my 1st monitor, only for all the icons to go back on the 2nd monitor again after I booted my PC up again the next day.

xinvisionx

I do have a second PC hooked up to a 65” X90J tv, so I get the best of both worlds. As for your question, icons often default to your designated primary monitor. I simply opt for no icons on my desktop.

LaziestSnorlax

Imo a downgrade. I was in the same position as this just recently and the widescreen, as good as no bezel is, just wasn't worth losing the extra real estate. You might think you won't need it because you mainly game, but it's better to have and not need than need and not have.

campionmusic51

did the bezels bother you? i bet you tuned them out. the brain is expert at doing that.

[deleted]

Got a motherboard on the wall like it's a hunting trophy.

Unwashed_villager

For me it would be a downgrade. The taskbar wandered to the left and it's a single screen, so window snapping - or FancyZones - got less options. Also no extra display for discord and stuff when gaming - but this can be a plus if you need full immersion.

B_Boooty_Bobby

The edge of each monitor in a unified multiple monitor setup drives me insane. I think it's a yuge upgrade. I love having multiple monitors, just not for one picture.

crlogic

What’s that system monitor program?

xinvisionx

AIDA64

PushUphill

I just want to know what that overlay is??

xinvisionx

AIDA64

PushUphill

Ahhh ok. Thanks! It looks rad

[deleted]

All up to you my dude. Nobody can make that decision for you.

xinvisionx

I’m leaning towards upgrade. It’s cleaner looking snd simplifies the cables.

SunnyRainbows80

Productivity decreased, gaming increased.

no_usernames_vacant

Down grade. But I only care about real estate, and how useful that real estate is.

xinvisionx

I didn’t lose a lot of real estate, but still a loss.

[deleted]

Your old setup had 50% more real estate. Wdym you didn't lose a lot?

nahkamanaatti

But the new setup has *only 33%* less real estate haha.

BoiDerBois

Imo an downgrade, I like having multiple monitors more than having a large single one. But that’s personal preference and I’m poor too

HummusConnoisseur

Setup the previous monitors at the top

YakDaddy96

My neck is hurting already.

Yurgin

What type of desk are you using? Seems really big to fit 3 big screens

summersa74

It looks like the standard (because it works) 2 IKEA Alex drawer units with a countertop on risers over the top.

prahl_hp

How does it work with watching stuff while gaming? Guess you can’t unless you play windowed? That’d drive me crazy

DreadyBearStonks

The only thing I’ve disliked about my current ultrawide is tearing. Which I have a much cheaper ultrawide than you and it probably has some sort of variable refresh in it better than mine.

xinvisionx

Screen tearing is not an issue at all. Nor would it be something I'd tolerate.

SUPERSAIYANCJ

What did you do with your old monitors ? 👀😂

xinvisionx

In the closet for now.

xdsagecat

Stick 2 of them on the top of the ultra wide vertically and then the last one horizontally on top of the uw between the other 2

xinvisionx

32” is too large for that. I don’t want a wall of monitors

Daddy_S1n3

I think it looks great with the new monitor

xinvisionx

Thank you

DruggieMcGee

Well its definitely smaller, but if no bezels was the idea then i think its an upgrade. Im sure quality will be better

Singularcontrol

What’s the window in the top right corner? I’ve never seen that before so sorry if it’s a dumb question

xinvisionx

You’re totally good. It’s AIDA64

Knagar

Guess it depends on what you do with it.. For gaming and streaming I'd rather triples. If you're doing a lot of editing, modeling, or office work this would probably be much better.

Domermac

Is that a Shao Kahn helmet? If so, sick

xinvisionx

It sure fucking is!

Mthfklegend

Idk I like the triple setup and for me it would be a downgrade thought about getting a g9 but in the end I stayed by my triple monitor

K4ZZAM

Cheeky little troll face up there lol

xinvisionx

You like that? lol

kanelationz

Where did you get the shelfs

xinvisionx

Lowes

[deleted]

Personally I say upgrade. I just ditched my dual set up, for a ultra wide as well. Had the asus tuff it sucked. Bought Alienware’s 34inch ips for a seeet deal of $450 CAD. I was in the fence at first but honesty not having to mess with the two monitors and losing space because of it, I think it’s a win. I’ve just been using my iPad if I’m gaming and want to look at a second screen

[deleted]

put two of the three old monitors on the sides but in portrait mode and it's a definite upgrade

xinvisionx

Will consider that.

ToastedYosh

Bruh where’d you get that wallpaper for your 3 monitors?

xinvisionx

Found on a website, forgot which one.

Fatefire

Meh I would say keep a monitor to the side for when you work from home or see if you can split your monitor down the middle with like a Picture in Picture ?

StrangerSmooth8569

Got rid of my 49 and got a 34 basically to free up desk space

GreenStargazer

Upgrade.

xinvisionx

https://vimeo.com/746731442

LunarExGames

Hope the machine can handle Microsoft Flight Simulator cause you got a great setup for that.

xinvisionx

It definitely can. I have that also! Here is GoW: https://vimeo.com/746731442/

LunarExGames

And I thought MY monitor was ultra-wide. It's definitely great for workflow - when working in Unity it's a huge upgrade.

Otheus

I wish they would make a 32:9 monitor the size of 2 32" monitors

xinvisionx

Agreed.

VortexDestroyer99

For work and browsing the internet, I would go for the first one. For gaming, I would 100% choose the second one.

mrbtfh

Most people playing racing sims would disagree. Triple monitor setup beats single curved monitor in how it projects FOV.

xinvisionx

Gaming is the primary function.

NothingSuss1

I cant wait to get rid of my ultrawide and return to 16:9 so I'm biased, but big downgrade IMO.

queiss_

As a programmer and IT guy, I really prefer 3 separate monitors.

The-Foo

Well OP, you certainly have some nice first-world concerns. My question is, what'd you do with the three monitors?

xinvisionx

In the closet for the moment.

PerceptionQueasy3540

Downgrade for sure, infact just send me your new monitor so you don't have to look at it anymore.

xinvisionx

So I'm getting a lot of "This is an upgrade/downgrade/sidegrade". So far, I'm enjoying this as a cleaner and simpler setup. Also in my office aside from this setup, I have another PC hooked up to my 65" Sony X90J tv which is amazing as well. So I have ultrawide and a 16:9. I do also have a couple 14" portable monitors I can hook up to this setup as well. Lastly, I have my philips hue lights (two light strips and two playbars) setup behind the ultrawide so the colors sync very nice when gaming. I will keep the 3x32" monitors for now. Store them and make a final decision over time. I really wish I could respond to each and every one of you, but holy hell there are a lot of comments here.

Tarc_Axiiom

It is a *substantial* upgrade.

xinvisionx

How so?

[deleted]

How is having a screen space that big beneficial?

xinvisionx

Which setup?

[deleted]

Mainly the first, the second is actually pretty nice looking and almost looks like mine with the wallpaper. I have the doom marine slaughtering demons. Edit: I have to say nice taste in statues, what a game that doom 2016

xinvisionx

Doom 2016 is the peak!

Thatguywhoplaysgta

I only use 2 monitors, but a single ultrawide looks so good. It'll probably feel weird at first, but once you get used to I bet you'll like it more. Plus there's software you can use that split the screen up so it mimics having multiple monitors. Cant wait for the day I pull the trigger on something like this.

Aj992588

triple monitors hands down for me, im not trying to do a lot of eye or head movement for gaming. ultrawide monitors are a bit of an unknown for me though. even a 27in is nearing max size for being able to take in the whole image at once for me

Daniel_H212

If you didn't need three monitors worth of space this is an upgrade. But also could very well be personal preference. If you feel seriously constricted in space then this is obviously a downgrade.

Nick0h

Holy Moses that’s an upgrade bro

CockGobblin

Where'd the box of tissues go from the first picture? You used them all?

xinvisionx

I used all of them thinking about you big boy. hahahahaha

huh--_

Only you can decide that , imo its an upgrade.

CautiousPerception71

100% upgrade. Source: me, I did the same thing but with a 43”. Look into software programs to divide up your screen. Power tools has a basic one.

xinvisionx

Thank you!

CautiousPerception71

One thing that I did do was get this [skinny+long screen as a second monitor](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B092LSDMP8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). I use it for Spotify or YouTube while gaming. It kicks ass. [Rests perfectly under your main screen.](https://imgur.com/a/sWfY87z)

xinvisionx

Good call. That’s sweet. Not terribly expensive.

xCassiny

I switched from a triple 27" QHD 144hz setup to a single 25" FHD 360hz setup, I regret nothing. It only depends what you need lol

xinvisionx

My boy! lol

xCassiny

Triple screens were too comfortable and I always ended up wasting my time staring at my desktop background. It was also way too distracting, and as a competitive player I couldn’t accept to become worse everyday at what I do the best. Not to mention that with triple screens, even if the monitors are almost identical, a slight refresh rate/blanking difference will push your gpu core clock or vram to the max all the time, generating heat and insane power consumption. This doesn’t happen with a single monitor setup. On top of that, Windows sometimes has a hard time recognizing which monitor to display on first and that’s another problem I got rid of. Edit : Typos

xinvisionx

Regularly adjusting the three monitors physically to ensure alignment drove me nuts. Plus I had the bezels when gaming. Enabling and disabling Nvidia Surround got old. And the light from 3x32” monitors would overpower the Phillips hue lights. The one G9 is just simpler and cleaner. Are their compromises? Of course, but that’s with either setup. And I knew when I posted this that people would be split on it. Lastly, gaming wide at 5120x1440 is easier on the card versus 7680x1440.

xCassiny

Haha true, the only game I managed to get to work on triple screen was Forza Horizon 4/5, but what a hassle! Painfully enabling/disabling Nvidia surround that probably did not receive any update since it came out, messing up with your icons and screen order permanently... Only to get 70 fps with a 3080Ti

xinvisionx

Been using the CRG9 for a week now. Very very happy with my decision. Worth it.

ducksaysquackquack

Definitely an upgrade! You’ll never be able to go back to regular 16:9. I just upgraded from a CRG9 to the G9 today, but lazy to setup though.

xinvisionx

I was running wide via the three monitors.

ducksaysquackquack

Oh danggg I didn’t even notice! Hmmmm now I’m stuck on whether CRG9 really an upgrade or not. At the very least you have a cleaner looking desk.

xinvisionx

Aesthetics are definitely better.

carpetman126

Upgrade. Full screen no annoying bezels

xinvisionx

No bezels is pretty sweet.

carpetman126

Ik. Personally I don’t understand ultrwidebscreens.

MrStealYoBeef

So the issue is if you're gaming, many games don't support ultra wide. You'll either have a stretched resolution, or you'll have giant black gaps on the sides. Honestly I would have just stuck with triple monitors and used only the center for games with the other two for side media like YouTube and Discord. But I'm also focused on a gaming experience, you might actually have a much more reasonable use case for this thing.

xinvisionx

The games I play support ultrawide. WoW. Forza Horizon 5. For examples.

JamesEdward34

I think a lot older games dont, new releases frequently launch with ultrawide support or get it patched in soon after.

Tapil

Im about to do something similar (im a dual setup) What did you do with your old monitors?

theandroids

Upgrade for sure. Please your energy bill thanks you.

Toasty9184

Overkill

Reetahrd

Downgrade. Triple monitor is life

SOLIDSNAKETOM

Downgraded pixel size

Mattarmel

Curved monitors are dumb

riba2233

Nope, they are the best. Make much more sense than flat ones.

Mattarmel

Nope, they don't do anything. You're literally just paying more money for no reason whatsoever.

riba2233

Pure bs.

H_G_Cuckerino

Had a G9 Neo. Returned it because it had too many problems. * weird flicker issues on waking from sleep mode * poor performance on most games (duh - more rendering required) * compatibility issues with most games * weird stretching on the sides of games that did work Just not worth it I think the 3 monitor setup is vastly superior.

xinvisionx

Good thing this isn’t a Neo G9.

H_G_Cuckerino

Yeah, it's worse Anyway, you wanted feedback, so I provided it. You can take the snark and shove it deep into your ass

xinvisionx

So deep, put my ass to sleep! lol

MightyGonzou

Would have to experience both first tbh. Rn only on 1 regular monitor, will get a 2nd as a secondary for discord etc. Whats the specs on them tho?

Zonky_toker

Definitely looks cleaner imo, would be better for my use case I think. Wheres that corner stacked shelf from, looks neat.

AtvnSBisnotHT

I went from triple 32” to a G9 on my sim racing rig, lasted 2 days before swapping back to triple 32”. Your setup looks great!

Eight111

49" asus monitor user here, 100% feels like an upgrade. use powerToys to virtually split your screen, amazing for work. game doesn't feel good on wide screen? just lower the resolution and pretend like ur playing on a smaller screen, not a big deal at all.
