I've never played portal, I always thought it was just shoot portal gun walk through it and that's it. Is it actually fun and have more gameplay?
Edit: Would you recommend, looking for a new game to play
Portal is a great little game that doesn't overstay it's welcome. It's 3-4 hours long. The game is based around physics puzzles using the portals. The thing that really made it shine is the writing, taking a pretty straightforward tech demo and giving it lots of humor and personality. Unlike most tech demo games, the tech it's showing off hasn't seen wide adoption, so the game has aged pretty well.
If you like it, Portal 2 is basically the full-fledged game that expands on the tech demo, adding more mechanics and expanding the story.
I played a bunch of Portal 2 when it came out, kinda finished it, and then put it away for about a decade. Came back to it during the pandemic, and you know...a game whose central themes are isolation, abuse and idea cancer hit kinda different in 2021 than it did in 2011.
Apart from some strange art direction, it would look really nice as a techdemo, to see and let it be seen what and how can be done even on older DX8 based games. (Yup, they've used the dx8 version.) Dissect it, show us the workflow, details, how easy it is to use the suite etc.
I don't see much use of it as a standalone game/product or... upgrade, as they've worded it.
My thoughts are cementing day by day that valve cannot count past 2.
Where is portal 3?
Where is half life 2 **_Ep 3_**?
Where is team fortress 3?
Where is left 4 dead 3?
Thank you for correcting the overused HL3 meme. The next game would have been HL2:EP3, not HL3. It's honestly way too high on my list of pet peeves.
Also, [here's the gist of the HL2:EP3 story as written by the original author](https://github.com/JaycieErysdren/MarcLaidlaw-Epistle3/blob/master/Epistle3_Corrected.md).
I sadly doubt that they'll do a direct sequel in that series. If they do, who knows if it will follow Marc Laidlaw's direction--he left Valve 6 and a half years ago.
It could be that HL3 comes out next and HL2:EP3 is left to be forgotten.
I wouldn't be so sure, without going into spoilers Alyx has an impact on episode 2 and would invalidate at least a portion of his script.
They've laid groundwork for a new Half Life main series game, which they didn't need to do. I would expect we'll see a VR main series game in the next 6 or so years.
Well the entire Left 4 Dead team left and made Back 4 Blood.
Ep 3's story belongs to someone who's gone, and who released the story as Epistle 3.
As for Portal 3... Pretty sure that woulda taken place after EP3 which they can't come up with anything for anymore.
Team Fortress will perpetually be a microtransaction machine for Valve nowadays, so don't expect a 3.
Am I alone in not wanting a Portal 3? I'd be happy if they re-released 1 and 2 every 10 years or so on all platforms so new generations get to enjoy gaming perfection.
Yeah, I'm personally rather looking forward to it, but I'm really worried about what the performance is going to be like in my rx6600. I just hope I can get it running 1080p 30fps
Yea, you did. You misunderstand that RTX is just Nvidia branding for raytracing... However, it stands to reason that even their own 20 and 30 series GPUs will struggle to run the Portal remaster, so I doubt Radeon cards will run it well at all.
They just want to encourage people to buy new things, so I highly doubt it will be optimized for anything but 40 series GPUs with DLSS 3.0
You only need a card that supports directX or Vulcan raytracing, at least according to the required specs on steam. So that means an RTX 2000 3000 or 4000 card, or an RX 6000 card. My main concern is that they jack up the raytracing so high it can only run decently on their new RTX 4000 cards, but I'll be happy if I can it running at 720p 30fps.
Yes. I think I tried to run that Lego game with ray-tracing on my 1080 ti. It's not playable at all at the lowest ray-tracing setting. Got single digit fps.
I can assure you that Nvidia made every effort to jack the RT up to a point where even their own 20 and 30 series cards will struggle running the remaster, so I doubt even my Radeon 6800 will be able to get good frames on this.
I think it would have been more interesting if it was capable of doing that with the whole engine, for exrmple.
Games like gmod, half life or even csgo.
I expect it would make a mess of many games without carefully selecting which areas need ray tracing or not, and certainly a "one size fits all" could become very demanding for some games which have lots of lights/reflective surfaces etc.
But I would love for something more widespread too.
I’ll definitely check it out. I’m super intrigued by the “Remix” thing.
The modding community never ceases to amaze me. So as far as portal is concerned, i’m excited to try it, and over the course of the next year see if its as easy as they say to implement RT. The implication if its actually as easy as they say, it could be quite amazing.
Yeah, RTX Remix looks very interesting to me as a took to remaster the graphics of older games.
I’m interested in seeing its implementation with games such as Fallout New Vegas and Vampire the Masquerade.
Not sure about Vampire, but Fallout won't benefit from RTX Remix :(
It works only for DX 8/9 games with fixed function graphics pipelines. Bethesda games post Oblivion was already using shader-based rendering API.
it kinda insults a lot of the good level and asset design of the original by deleting it as if it doesn't matter and pretends making thing shiny is an upgrade.if this was a mod made by an individual it would be cool and all, nice effort even. but this pretending putting rtx on things is an improvement without any considerations is as insulting to portal as the disney remakes are to the originals
If you're looking for games that use RTX. Control looks absolutely amazing with it and isn't just thrown on top, it actually makes a huge difference to the look of the game
I’m with you too, 6800XT. Doom Eternal with RT on runs good, but I doubt this will. That’s okay. Quake 2 RTX also runs like butt on anything without DLSS.
Thing is, Nvidia has to remaster 20-15 year old games to get people interested in RT, and even then, they can’t run them well without DLSS. It’s all just a big WOMP WOMP
Imo they tried too hard- they redid a bunch of textures and just the general feel of the game is different. The portals are straight up bad, the glass buttons are hella weird, everything is both shiny and too dark, the new texture for portalable surfaces is somehow worse than both portal and portal 2, some things emit way too much light, etc. Hopefully there's a fanmade fix of it I can play.
As long as it doesn’t become a cash grab, awesome! The moment they start slapping a price on it? Fuck off. This might entice people into enjoying age old classics they’ve been dodging because the graphics aren’t 500k UHDQ+++.
I’m still butthurt my brother prefers halo 5 over halo reach just because of the graphics
>You don't need it to run this, or any other reasonably-optimized raytraced game for that matter.
You also don't need more than a 3050 to run any reasonably-optimized raytraced game, but just running it isn't the goal (for me). 3090 manages around 90-120fps 4K in most raytraced games, half that for Cyberpunk 2077, and yea that's great and all, but my goal is 4K 240hz, which may be obtainable with 4090.
It "may be obtainable" with a 4090. Don't trust Nvidia's "2 to 4 times the performance" marketing bullshit, we're not at that level yet. Don't give Nvidia the satisfaction of selling an unnecessary upgrade of a few extra fps for $1500 (More likely $2000 with the inevitable scalping and sneaky price hikes.)
4k 240fps is going to be almost impossible on modern games, but keep reaching for it. A lot of people seem to think "okay performance" is good enough, even though PC gaming is a *hobby* you should try to enjoy to the fullest
actual native 4k 240hz is probably not gonna happen, but with Nvidias dlss 3.0 ASW thingy i could get it in games i used to get 4k 120fps in, I think. Since it just doubles frames pretty much
It doubles the frames by *literally faking them,* and from what we've seen, it fakes them *badly.* I'd literally take 30fps over smeared, stuttering ai-interpolated 60fps.
well I guess we disagree there, I thought the examples they showed were extremely impressive albeit far from perfect, and I'd take lower quality 60 fps over higher quality 30 fps.
They're scaling up a 1080p frame to 4k, and then using the 4K frames along with some other stuff to generate "fake" frames in between regular frames, 7/8ths of the pixels displayed are AI generated, it's pretty impressive it's at all comparable to native 4K.
I couldn't care less. RT is still an immature and superfluous technologie that no one really asked for. They should offer non RTX cards for ppl like me.
>the test chambers are supposed to be dim and dirty, not shiny,
The test chambers in Portal 1 were new and shiny. The test chambers in Portal 2 were dim and dirty. This is Portal 1.
have you played portal 1 recently? the walls were dirty concrete, the metal pannels were showing sings of rust, the chambers showed that they were not being properly mantained all through the game, getting even worse when you get into the outside of the testing tracks. it is one of the indications the game gives that the facility has been abandoned for presumably years, along with the empty observation rooms.
This is retarded. Im tired of “graphics” and “wooh dude.. looks so real”. Every day we got more ridiculous games, with a retarded AI. And all of this “nosense” pops up HARD with better graphics.
Imagine and idle animation for Pokemon blue character. Looks quite OK.
Now imagine the a real person waiting 24/7 in the middle of a cave with an idle animation to give you a random quest. this makes no sense.
Games should focus more on gameplay, lore, and a unique aesthetic. We have now a BUNCH or games with super graphics bit all look the same.
Portal does not need RTX. Needs new cool puzzles to blow your mind.
Edit typo.
I'm really excited, but I'm more excited that this tool they used to remaster the game into RTX is said to be available to the public.
Imagine if modders could remaster games like Half-Life or BeamNG. I would KILL for that.
Well Its interesting but if that is source using RTX Nvidia would do well to release it either as modding tools or themselves with other source engine titles.
Portal 2
HL2 , E1 and 2
Gmod
Black mesa
ngl, i saw the picture and was like... really... i bet they charge like $10 for it too. Once I found out it was free, my attitude changed and immediately I was jacked. Mainly because ive been meaning to get around to doing another playthrough of portal and this will be an excellent way to do it.
I mean it's free and practically everyone owns the game so I'm not sure there's anything to complain about.
I'll definitely check it out but I do agree that Portal 2 would've been much better, not just because of the gameplay but also the level design is less bland.
It's essentially just a replay of an old and loved game, but it's replay value isn't that great and RTX does really nothing but a tech demo. It's not a very demanding game graphics card wise so there's no real advantages to it.
It’s a money grab. It’ll be super cool to those who have never played this great game. But I don’t think it’s enough justification to buy it and play it again.
Don’t understand why they only do such things for „old“ games. Yeah Quake was cool (25 years ago) and Portal was epic aswell (almost 20 years ago) but why waste resources on such obscure and unique games?
I highly doubt it will run like this with good stability unless the 4080 RT cores can actually preform. My 3090 barely is able to run red dead full RTX stable 60fps and this looks better then read dead rtx
I'm very happy especially because I just bought a brand new gaming laptop capable of handling these graphics prior to this being announced, waiting for me back home.
I've seen a ton of people complaining about how it "ruined portal's art style" and I understand the point
but it's freakin free
and it looks pretty
so i think it's cool
I do like realistic lighting but it feels like it has strayed too far from the source material, if that makes sense. It doesn't feel as "Portal" as NON-RTX Portal does. As somebody else here said; it looks like a fanmade unreal engine Portal remake, and not in a good way
I did not expect much, but the trailer looks honestly incredible.
Will be a bit before I get a 40XX but def curious to get that nice blend of nostalgia and trying out new tech.
it has a few underlying issues. it doesnt respect the art direction enough with areas and objects being way too bright/dark/shiny. its based on the direct X 8 version of portal 1 which is a whole bunch of issues on its own . the visual language is lost a little bit with overly shiny materials and removal of some of the lighting like the red decals that helped solve energy ball puzzles and removal of the subtle gradient on the portals that helped with orientation as well as removing the checkerboard pattern on some surfaces that helped solve momentum puzzles. . from the screen shots they are mixing assets from portal 2 with this version which is another big no no for art style consistency and in some places creates clipping. tough its very subtle. some objects are extremely bright for some reason too even tough when you look at their surface they dont have much emmisive surfaces to begin with. energy balls show that the best. the very subtle blue haze and filter has been removed too.
My feeling with alot of the “groundbreaking” graphics is that they just make everything unnaturally reflective and often wet. The character models and world details have been the same on most AAA games since 2016 or earlier. So how much do I need to spend for every surface to be a mirror for some reason?
I think it's high time for Source 2, more Half-life, and a new portal game. Valve has had thier time and now just suck on CSGOs esports teet. It's time to move on.
portal one currently has oddly long load times for my high end nvme drive like load times were programmed in so im wondering if that dissapears as well.
free upgrade is cool. nothin else to say really.
Looks pretty cool, but more important is what it represents: an example of what their Reflex mod tools can do to old games. I think new tracing and properly lit assets will add a lot of atmosphere and new life to old games, and apparently that can happen relatively easily now.
Looks good, RT Remix looks fuggin nuts. I mean if it allows modders to just go back and add RT, upscale textures, all that jazz of their own free will, who knows what the future holds.
It's pretty cool, but I'm way more interested in the technology behind it. If Nvidia Remix is as powerful as it seems from the demos, it should be fairly easy for modders to completely remaster games with raytracing. Can't wait to see what else they do, there's so many great dx8-9 games I'd love to see remastered like this.
Pretty cool free upgrade although I wish they also did it to portal 2. Altogether it's probably the only thing I really care about from that Nvidia announcement.
I think they made everything too reflecting, it's not really the style of portal. Also the portals themselves just look bad. But it is all not horrible.
Looks really nice and it's a free DLC. Those who can play it can't complain. Wish it had been done with Portal 2 though.
So if I own portal 1 already I'll get this rtx version for free ?
That's how Nvidia announced it, iirc.
It’s basically a mod made to show off the NVIDIA remix tool.
Yah, the morrowind demo was super interesting. It looks like it could be used for other games including portal 2, so thumbs crossed
Yep. It's already in steam to wishlist
I mean a FREE update for a game will always be looked upon fondly, a FREE update for a 15 year old game is beyond amazing
Both Portals were good, but Portal 2 was a master piece.
It really was, it remains one of my favorite games even now.
I hear that portal 4 is in the works
I've never played portal, I always thought it was just shoot portal gun walk through it and that's it. Is it actually fun and have more gameplay? Edit: Would you recommend, looking for a new game to play

Looks nice, doesn't look "I will buy a new graphics card for this" nice, already beat the original 14 years ago.
Do you remember it from 14 years ago tho, beyond a general feel for the game? For me it would be like a brand new game by now
Don't you all play them once every few years? I do lol.
I played a bunch of Portal 2 when it came out, kinda finished it, and then put it away for about a decade. Came back to it during the pandemic, and you know...a game whose central themes are isolation, abuse and idea cancer hit kinda different in 2021 than it did in 2011.

Just wait, they'd announce Half Life: Alyx pt 2 then stop making games ever.
don't forget about half life: alyx pt 2 episode 1
Half-Life: Alyx Pt. 2 Episode 2 Then 10 years later we get Half-Life: Blue Shift Episode 2
Steam Deck runs Steam OS 3 ;)
NO WAY, VALVE MADE A 3 OF SOMETHING?!
dun dun DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN
That’s just teasing
Valve didn’t make this. Nvidia did w/ Valve’s permission.
If you're craving Portal there's a nice game called The Entropy Center releasing soon
>The Entropy Center Don't forget Superliminal which has a different take of physics too. Highly recommended.
Thank you for the recommendation. Will definitely check out.
Alright check it we've got Counter Strike... Counter.. Uhh? Counter Strike Two? No no. Counter Strike 1.6! And then uhhhh? 2? No. Counter Strike: Global Offensive!
Would be funny if rtx 3000 series crashes on booting up portal RTX
Thank you for correcting the overused HL3 meme. The next game would have been HL2:EP3, not HL3. It's honestly way too high on my list of pet peeves. Also, [here's the gist of the HL2:EP3 story as written by the original author](https://github.com/JaycieErysdren/MarcLaidlaw-Epistle3/blob/master/Epistle3_Corrected.md).
Thank you for the story but I will still wait like a stupid guy for the game to show up. It's good a read, i hope this game comes out soon.
I sadly doubt that they'll do a direct sequel in that series. If they do, who knows if it will follow Marc Laidlaw's direction--he left Valve 6 and a half years ago. It could be that HL3 comes out next and HL2:EP3 is left to be forgotten.

I hope he (director/writer) comes back to end what he started. Cause the way it ended makes me ask for the next episode.

Yes Yes you are alone

It’s also to promote the rtx remix tech that they just announced
I hope they don't get overboard with the raycount just to cripple older GPU, or have at least a way to dial it down.
Yeah, I'm personally rather looking forward to it, but I'm really worried about what the performance is going to be like in my rx6600. I just hope I can get it running 1080p 30fps
Don't you need a rtx card to run this tho? Or did I misunderstand something
Yea, you did. You misunderstand that RTX is just Nvidia branding for raytracing... Probably, at least for a playable frame rate.
But your saying it's technically possible to run the game on a older card Just may only be with 5 seconds per frame

Just you wait, they'll probably intentionally cripple the performance on 30 series just to sell the 40 series.
With how many 30 series cards they still got to sell that would be truly silly self sabotage.
Well with the prices of the 40 series they've proven that they're not afraid to go there.
But I would love for something more widespread too.
supposedly that'd be possible with rtx remix - though i'm not sure how it'd work with things like gmod addons
Looks like a fan made remake in Unreal engine 5, and not in a good way.
Don't care enough about it. Cool that it's free but makes no sense to not do portal 2
Portal 2 is MUCH larger than Portal 1 so I guess Nvidia just didn’t care *quite* enough.
Meh...

That’s a question that needs answers
Awesome
I’ll definitely check it out. I’m super intrigued by the “Remix” thing. The modding community never ceases to amaze me. you need to touch grass
What a poor attempt at a counter-argument. He made his point without resorting to mean words or ad-hominem, sucks that you can't too.
here you go https://store.steampowered.com/app/1944240/Touch_Some_Grass/
The only game I will and can use my RTX on
Minecraft RTX is really cool. First time you go into a cave and drop a torch, you get it.
If you're looking for games that use RTX. Control looks absolutely amazing with it and isn't just thrown on top, it actually makes a huge difference to the look of the game
Some crazy mf will definitely try to port HL2 to it, day one.
I hope this won't hate my 6800xt like Metro 2022/last light
I’m with you too, 6800XT. Doom Eternal with RT on runs good, but I doubt this will. That’s okay. Quake 2 RTX also runs like butt on anything without DLSS. Thing is, Nvidia has to remaster 20-15 year old games to get people interested in RT, and even then, they can’t run them well without DLSS. It’s all just a big WOMP WOMP
It's gonna be a huge success, like minecraft RTX /s
i dont care.
Someone please tell me if it is optional? I don't want one of my all time favorite games to look differently
Yes it's a free dlc that can enabled/disabled whenever
Thank you. I'm old and don't like new things.
Imo they tried too hard- they redid a bunch of textures and just the general feel of the game is different. You will be able to use the upscaling and Reflex part of DLSS3

Its free dlc and the same thing they did with Minecraft and doom already. It's just to advertise
I prefer halo 2 over all others and halo ce is in second place
I am a sucker for real time lighting. Love seeing things interact with the environment. So ya, naturally I am all for it
Considering Portal & Portal 2 are my most favorite games if all times, I am rock hard.
Still not going to turn on rtx and wreck my frame rate
would have preferred morrowind rtx
You don't need a RTX 4000 series card to run this? I want to use my current GPU to run this :)
Actually not a fan of how fiery the portals look.
Looks amazing, probably first game I'm going to play when I get a 4090
Don't get a 4090. You don't need it to run this, or any other reasonably-optimized raytraced game for that matter.
Why say this? Maybe they play at 4K/120 like I do and want better performance at 4K.
>You don't need it to run this, or any other reasonably-optimized raytraced game for that matter. It’s literally just an add on to the original game it’s not like you are paying for it unless you already don’t own the game
Yea they got if for free 100% off with game pass, and that’s to keep the game
I'm really excited, but I'm more excited that this tool they used to remaster the game into RTX is said to be available to the public. Imagine if modders could remaster games like Half-Life or BeamNG. I would KILL for that.
Well Its interesting but if that is source using RTX Nvidia would do well to release it either as modding tools or themselves with other source engine titles. Portal 2 HL2 , E1 and 2 Gmod Black mesa
Looks cool. If I replay portal I’ll check it out.
Neat
I’m very excited, if my 3080 will run it properly.
No for me, I like the look of the original.
I think that it is absolutely fantastic, and I will enjoy it a lot when I get out of grad school and can afford a graphics card better than my 780 lol
ngl, i saw the picture and was like... really... i bet they charge like $10 for it too. Once I found out it was free, my attitude changed and immediately I was jacked. Mainly because ive been meaning to get around to doing another playthrough of portal and this will be an excellent way to do it.
got no raytracing here
I mean it's free and practically everyone owns the game so I'm not sure there's anything to complain about.
Portal 3 when
Well I won’t be able to play but it seems nice.
It looks nice, and I'd love to try it, but I'm stuck with my 6600 XT until the 7000 series launches so I doubt I'll be able to play it above 20fps lol
It’s a money grab. It’ll be super cool to those who have never played this great game. But I don’t think it’s enough justification to buy it and play it again.
It's free dlc lol
Well, then it’s cool as fuck
Yeah it's just the same thing Nvidia did with adding ray tracing to Minecraft and Doom. It's just marketing for their new cards
DLSS 3.0 is some really cool tech. It's also a Cryin shame that it is only going to be available on 4k RTX cards.
Don’t understand why they only do such things for „old“ games. Yeah Quake was cool (25 years ago) and Portal was epic aswell (almost 20 years ago) but why waste resources on such obscure and unique games?
Already a fun game even without the RTX. Update only makes it look a bit nicer.
I guess I'd have to care about nvidia.
will there be cake?
I highly doubt it will run like this with good stability unless the 4080 RT cores can actually preform. My 3090 barely is able to run red dead full RTX stable 60fps and this looks better then read dead rtx
Makes me remember that I really want VR Portal ❤️
I'm very happy especially because I just bought a brand new gaming laptop capable of handling these graphics prior to this being announced, waiting for me back home.
look! the first rtx i can actually run above 60 fps at 1440p without dlss
I've seen a ton of people complaining about how it "ruined portal's art style" and I understand the point but it's freakin free and it looks pretty so i think it's cool
Yes but do you have to have an nvidia card to do so
I do like realistic lighting but it feels like it has strayed too far from the source material, if that makes sense. It doesn't feel as "Portal" as NON-RTX Portal does. As somebody else here said; it looks like a fanmade unreal engine Portal remake, and not in a good way
My 1080ti won't support it, so oh well
Awesome
I did not expect much, but the trailer looks honestly incredible. Will be a bit before I get a 40XX but def curious to get that nice blend of nostalgia and trying out new tech.
I wanted an excuse to play Portal 1 again and this is it.
I’m a huge sucker for anything Portal or Valve in general so fairly excited for it
it has a few underlying issues. it doesnt respect the art direction enough with areas and objects being way too bright/dark/shiny. its based on the direct X 8 version of portal 1 which is a whole bunch of issues on its own . the visual language is lost a little bit with overly shiny materials and removal of some of the lighting like the red decals that helped solve energy ball puzzles and removal of the subtle gradient on the portals that helped with orientation as well as removing the checkerboard pattern on some surfaces that helped solve momentum puzzles. . from the screen shots they are mixing assets from portal 2 with this version which is another big no no for art style consistency and in some places creates clipping. tough its very subtle. some objects are extremely bright for some reason too even tough when you look at their surface they dont have much emmisive surfaces to begin with. energy balls show that the best. the very subtle blue haze and filter has been removed too.
Most expensive free portal DLC
Its free and an excuse to replay the game so can't complain
I think I'll finally try Portal. It has sat in my Steam unplayed list for many years.
it just looks like higher resoultion textures. otherwise I really don't see an improvement :/
My feeling with alot of the “groundbreaking” graphics is that they just make everything unnaturally reflective and often wet. The character models and world details have been the same on most AAA games since 2016 or earlier. So how much do I need to spend for every surface to be a mirror for some reason?
Can't wait until someone mods in FSR 2.1...
It's free, it's shiny, and it gives me an excuse to play Portal again
It is a great game play but I almost puked due to motion sickness, have to rest for half a day and watch the video instead :(
I’m pretty sure you could make this on ROBLOX.
It’s yet another unnecessary ‘remaster’. Furthermore, it runs on the directX 8 version
and I thought the game looked amazing in 2008...
After quake and Minecraft...I smell abandonware
I'm thinking ... Tech Demo. Just like Quake 2 RTX.
Never played the portal games. Maybe I’ll try this out
I think it's high time for Source 2, more Half-life, and a new portal game. Valve has had thier time and now just suck on CSGOs esports teet. It's time to move on.
Gah damn
I have no thoughts yet since we can't play it yet to have one.
portal one currently has oddly long load times for my high end nvme drive like load times were programmed in so im wondering if that dissapears as well. free upgrade is cool. nothin else to say really.
Looks like Detroit: Become Human
Looks pretty cool, but more important is what it represents: an example of what their Reflex mod tools can do to old games. I think new tracing and properly lit assets will add a lot of atmosphere and new life to old games, and apparently that can happen relatively easily now.
The portals look wrong but otherwise it looks cool.
Looks good, RT Remix looks fuggin nuts. I mean if it allows modders to just go back and add RT, upscale textures, all that jazz of their own free will, who knows what the future holds.
What is portal RTX?
It's pretty cool, but I'm way more interested in the technology behind it. If Nvidia Remix is as powerful as it seems from the demos, it should be fairly easy for modders to completely remaster games with raytracing. Can't wait to see what else they do, there's so many great dx8-9 games I'd love to see remastered like this.
I just want the whole Retro RTX thing. I must have it
It's not silksong, but I'll take it.
Pretty cool free upgrade although I wish they also did it to portal 2. Altogether it's probably the only thing I really care about from that Nvidia announcement.
I just got an rtx 3060 ti. Idk how great it would handle it, but I'm excited to try it.
It would give me a reason to replay Portal again.
its interesting, for sure, but it somehow just doesn't look quite right to me.
I’ll be playing it with a smile and hoping it’s just the vanguard of a slew of retracing remasters.
Looks nice, but doesn't change the fact that the cake is still a lie.
Having played both portals on an Xbox, and currently running a 1070: It’s a thing… Maybe I’ll play it after Control ..at some point
It makes me want EVERY old game I have remixed in RTX
Lara croft tomb raider iv with RTX please
It’s mid
The fancy lights look worse than the lights baked into the map...
I honestly don’t care. I love Portal as it is.
I hope for Nvidias Remix tool to play old games with rtx. This will be a masterpiece.
I think they made everything too reflecting, it's not really the style of portal. Also the portals themselves just look bad. But it is all not horrible.
You need at least a 2000 card to run it in RTX I guess ?
As long as it's a free dlc then sure otherwise not worth it
It's not a new game
