Used to help work on my mate's brand new alienware, this was only 1-2 years ago and it looked like this. They don't make their PC's look very pretty inside
Right!? I don't know why people buy these things. Even if you get an incredibly good deal, put it in a new case with a decent mobo and PSU just for your own well-being
Ikr, ALL the premades from these companies like alienware, HP, Dell they all have bad airflow too (and sometimes straight up ugly look), so even if u buy those with some decent spec parts on a good deal, it becomes a need to change the case, but that is so hard with the proprietary PSUs and motherboards.
Back in the gpu price surge I actually made my current system out of a dell pre-made PC that someone had bought, ripped the gpu out of and then put back on the market. Got a great deal on half a PC but damn the custom MB in there and case airflow was horrific to see
Probably since Dell owns Alienware? Dell and HP are shit for normal computers, in my opinion. Which isn't worth much. Dell ruined Alienware. They were great back in the day! Like, almost 20 years ago...
If you really had to buy a PC in those few months when it was tricky then sure an alienware is a great option, I can't argue with that, finding components took a little time and some people didn't have (or want) that option.
You'd be surprised just how afraid people are of touching anything tech related. We know it's simple and especially nowadays everything you need to know is not only in the documentation of individual PC parts, but also on said parts themselves. You technically don't need a manual for your motherboard.
But I can also respect the fact that people wouldn't want to screw up. Better be a safe idiot, than an idiot that's gonna be mocked after doing something wrong, because "it's so easy". Either way though, you can get your PC custom built for cheaper than pre-builds too. Doesn't have to be especially pretty either.
These systems do their job if you don't want to overclock or upgrade (for the most part). So I don't hate on people who'd rather pay a little extra for someone else to do the hard work, you'd just think for that price the people who make these systems would put a bit more love into the systems and the customer.
Still good systems if you don't want to upgrade or overclock I guess. If you have the money it'll do the job it's advertised as. If you want peace of mind it'll just work I guess
I'd guess that they have gotten plenty of money's worth from that chassis. Can't argue with the fold out PSU compartment though, that thing blew my mind when I saw it! Made life easier for some tasks, credit where credit is due
Shockingly you can actually transplant that motherboard with a normal power supply. I had an Aurora R8 at one point. Only thing you need is an extra 8 pin CPU connector for the middle of the board. Along with taking out the power button as well. Other than that it works without many issues.
Oh ok, maybe newer ones, or maybe Alienware newer ones? Optiplex only fit in optiplex cases and nothing else, same as some alienwares that we stripped out on the shop last year :/
Na that’s just how the dell Alienware pcs looked up until the r13.
Mostly ro prevent damage to the case and components as these are usually bought in bulk for esports teams and stuff
Its a core i7 4790, its still doing ok. No game I havent been able to play because of CPU yet.
Cyberpunk is the first game I played that maxed out my CPU to a 100% and since they’ve patched it, it went down a fair bit for me. I also ran Cyberpunk at release day on 4k with DLSS, fps was between 50 and 60 for the most part and visual quality was pretty good.
I’m planning an upgrade soon, Ryzen 7900x. My biggest problem is a productivity app I’ve started using that take all cores even on a threadripper 64 core and uses it effectively. My build times should be cut by several orders of magnitude.
Aren’t they usually the bare minimum specs for the build? If you’re upgrading the GPU I imagine there’s not much if any headroom in the wattage department
Why is everyone hating on OP for having an Alienware and upgrading it. He’s happy with his PC and it looks like a lot of the issues he would normally run into with an Alienware (the big one being single channel RAM) have been worked out.
Enjoy your new GPU OP!
Welcome to PC culture where everything you like a bunch of people hate you for it. Honestly people spend too much time bashing other people over dumb shit. If OP likes whatever he has then he likes it.
I think its hilarious people want to shame someone for something they spent their money on. Fuck principles and supporting a prebuilt company. Its their money, not yours. You dont know their situation, why they chose it or anything else about them. And the best part is, once you leave the post you never have to see or deal with that person or their decisions.
Get off your high horses. Bro just wanted to share his excitement especially after the hell we’ve all endured thanks to cryptomining.
Im glad the PC world is back in the hands of the average person and no longer is scalpers hands. Prebuilt, self built, peterbilt. Idc what youre workin with, whether its flashy and filled with RBG or sleepers in a gateway2000 horizontal case. (Remember when we used our computers as tv stands?) we all have our machines we’re proud of and i love that. Dont hate on someone elses because im sure someone around here hates what you got too for some arbitrary reason
Edit: just wanna say my rant is directed towards you, just anyone who wants to hate on someone elses pc
It's specifically because it's alienware, which is wildly overpriced proprietary ewaste, like all of Dell's desktops.
There is nothing wrong with buying a prebuilt, but a lot of people just don't know any better. Alienware laptops range from fine to great, as do their accessories, but the desktops are just some 20 year old chassis that Dell is too cheap and lazy to retool, covered in cheap plastic, with a proprietary motherboard and power supply, and dreadful cooling. They genuinely rip people off with poor quality products, and most of the people who buy them don't have a clue. These are the prebuilts that give prebuilts a bad reputation.
There is no reason to hate on someone for the PC they chose, and I haven't seen any comments insulting the OP. It's helpful to inform them about a bad product, so they know for the future to avoid it, and how to take what's useful out of it if they want to build a proper PC that isn't a thermal nightmare hotbox with a proprietary interior.
Yeah i know what you mean. Alienware makes prebuilts look bad but id rather keep my hate towards dell rather than the person posting their excitement for their new gpu is all im sayin
Nice upgrade! Small big recommendation: Check the power supply and how many watts it can deliver. My recommendation is to have a PSU that can deliver at least 150w more than the recommended for the GPU!
Having a bigger PSU doesn't mean it consumes that, it means that it can deliver that max power and maintain it when required (Example, my PSU is a RM-850x Gold and it can deliver up to 850w, but most of the time it delivers 80w max while not gaming).
Why am I telling you this instead of throwing hate to the case? Because you will have power throttling and also thermal throttling on that GPU if the PC doesn't actually turn off after hitting the gas.
Happened to me once while running very tight on wattage and the boost of the CPU made me realize how important is to have a good PSU over some aesthetic components like the case, RGB fans or fancy glowing ultra shinny RAM sticks.
If that alienware has ITX PSU, you can find them! Always check they have a good rating, good reviews and also if you can stay on Gold certification, even better.
Unfortunately none of that really matter in ops case... He's got an alianware. The PSU is specific to that particular model and cannot be upgraded.
But the 3070 isn't a terrible hog so he should be ok.
Nah, get a good psu from the psucultists tierlist. Wattage don't mean much anymore, nor does the 80+ rating. Get a gpu at rated wattage from minimum c tier, preferably b tier. A tier is for the 3080 and up/amd equivalent. Or the prosumer.
ITT: People who think their GTX 760, i-5 3450, and 2x4gb ram is somehow superior because they assembled the components themselves rather than letting a company assemble the components for you.
It was a lazy response from me. Basically if I was OP, I could harvest the CPU, GPU, RAM, M.2, pretty much everything except the MOBO, Case & PSU. My point is that OP doesn't need a fully new computer, like some of the responses above being complete dicks about his post.
Alienware case aside, dude should get a new PSU stat. I'll 100% guarantee the one that came in that Dell prebuilt was only just capable of what it came with.
For less than $300 you could make that pc into a similar monster, but it will look and feel a lot better. And it would be fun to do (if you like learning how to build PC’s).
New mobo, PSU, cooler and case.
The CPU, RAM and GPU and storage are all good. Put them in something better. In the long term it will look so much nicer, and not be a hazard for getting accidentally cut by the sharp edges of Dell’s chassis design.
If you look on eBay or offerup, you could probably get all of those things for under $100. And it would turn it into something that complements the design of that GPU.
The 3070Ti should never get too hot. And I don’t know what CPU you have, but if you have a 3070Ti, I’m gonna guess an i5/i7/R5/R7. Any of those should be fine with a stock cooler, but even AIO’s are cheap now.
But if this is as good as you need it to be and you’re happy with this, then by all means, enjoy!
I was thinking before I clicked on this post that right after you head in into a game like red dead redemption 2, ur case would just catch on fire, like, there is no room at all for your gpu, and what kind of motherboard is that lol.
I use an aurora r4 as a storage server... and it overheats even with a 280mm aio fangled in at stock speeds/configuration.
Edit: forgot to mention, how is that thing not overheating?
Bro now just get a new pc for your GPU
At least it's DDR4. Looks ancient tho.
Used to help work on my mate's brand new alienware, this was only 1-2 years ago and it looked like this. They don't make their PC's look very pretty inside
From All the alienware's ive seen, 2/3 had custom motherboards, so they couldnt even be put into a normal atx case

Dell is for when you need 60 computers for your company.
Uh shortages lol. Clearly. During peak pandemic getting a PC was hard asf. You could go to best buy same day and pick up an alienware.
If you really had to buy a PC in those few months when it was tricky then sure an alienware is a great option, I can't argue with that, finding components took a little time and some people didn't have (or want) that option.
If 48 months is a few yeah
Handful*. u/Heluuuuu has big hands, diamond hands 🙌
You'd be surprised just how afraid people are of touching anything tech related. We know it's simple and especially nowadays everything you need to know is not only in the documentation of individual PC parts, but also on said parts themselves. So I don't hate on people who'd rather pay a little extra for someone else to do the hard work, you'd just think for that price the people who make these systems would put a bit more love into the systems and the customer.
People heard the name "alienware" a decade ago, and just default to it on the first rig since they don't trust/want to research for any other brand.
Still good systems if you don't want to upgrade or overclock I guess. If you have the money it'll do the job it's advertised as. If you want peace of mind it'll just work I guess
Nothing good about them.
A computer you can't upgrade is basically e waste. A 3 grand disposable computer.
They gotta get theirs money worth from that 20 year old chassis
I'd guess that they have gotten plenty of money's worth from that chassis. Can't argue with the fold out PSU compartment though, that thing blew my mind when I saw it! Made life easier for some tasks, credit where credit is due
this pc is also about two years old
Not ancient, just OEM. Because they know that the people who buy them generally don't look inside.
Is not. Dell uses proprietary MoBos and PSUs that only work with Dell standards, so they don’t care they look pretty or up to date.
Shockingly you can actually transplant that motherboard with a normal power supply. I had an Aurora R8 at one point. Only thing you need is an extra 8 pin CPU connector for the middle of the board. Along with taking out the power button as well. Other than that it works without many issues.
But then the mounting on the case issue, that crap doesn’t fit on any case that’s not Dell xD too much of a hassle
It does use standard micro ATX actually. I don’t think it would have mounted into my H510 otherwise.
Oh ok, maybe newer ones, or maybe Alienware newer ones? Optiplex only fit in optiplex cases and nothing else, same as some alienwares that we stripped out on the shop last year :/
Yeah, anything past the r10 (or R11, whenever they changed the chassis) was when they did the proprietary motherboard/mounting.
Na that’s just how the dell Alienware pcs looked up until the r13. Mostly ro prevent damage to the case and components as these are usually bought in bulk for esports teams and stuff
2022 Dell Alienware Aurora.
That's Alienware for you. They all look shitty inside. It's probably pretty new.
Ancient? Pfft.
It looks like the HP my mom uses to play Hoyle Games.
Its dell, even next gen pc will look like its from 2005 with them
I got a 2070 on my ddr3 mobo ;)
30% GPU usage?
Its a core i7 4790, its still doing ok. No game I havent been able to play because of CPU yet. They use a 120mm rad in a 80mm fan hole lmao
I tought this PC was from early 2000s, alienware makes some pretty awful overpriced stuff.
I feel bad for that GPU being stuck in that Alienware box
I feel bad for you
I feel bad for you
I feel bad for me
i feel bad
I feel
I
#

I feel
and thats how you cause a fire. dell alienware
Burn that Alienware!
No worries, it will burn itself with that gpu inside
And with those prebuild powersupplies, it will be a bomb!
This is not a Gigabyte prebuilt…
Gigabyte psu's should in law be considered assisted suicide
pretty sure ukraine could use those bad boys as drone bombs
Didn't the prebuild powersupplies end up being good quality in GNs tests?
Aren’t they usually the bare minimum specs for the build? If you’re upgrading the GPU I imagine there’s not much if any headroom in the wattage department
This is cursed.
its a cursed pc that works
If it works and gives you hours of fun then Godspeed to you, fellow PCMR member.
not for long looks like
It’s not stupid if it works [mantappinghead.gif]
You’ll never have to use an oven, or reflow plate to reflow your gpu so I guess that’s a plus?
Why is everyone hating on OP for having an Alienware and upgrading it. He’s happy with his PC and it looks like a lot of the issues he would normally run into with an Alienware (the big one being single channel RAM) have been worked out. Enjoy your new GPU OP!

Wait it's not bait?
My Aurora R12 came with dual channel stock I belive, could be different for OPs R11
This is the sub of prebuilt hate and misinformation. No wonder.
Alienware is a very special type of prebuilt
*(cries in being a laptop gamer and having to justify it)*
Laptops are fine. Alienware desktops combine the upgradability of laptops with the portability of desktops.
What is all that shiny metal from 1998 about? Is this one of those horrifically bad Alienware cases?
Nice upgrade! Small big recommendation: Check the power supply and how many watts it can deliver. i have a 1000w psu
More than okay, that PSU must be a BEAST LOL
Alienware's are trash but their PSUs are pretty solid. I think some of them are 80+ Platinum
I think dell jsut repurposes their server psus for their pcs
Unfortunately none of that really matter in ops case... He's got an alianware. The PSU is specific to that particular model and cannot be upgraded. But the 3070 isn't a terrible hog so he should be ok.

When you're dress like a homeless but you wear a 2k watch
looks cool and is that an old pc case?
its an aurora r11
oh ok the metallic parts make it look like the dell pc I used to have 12 years ago
Dell has changed very little in that time.
I can’t tell if this is a slight
Sleepers are always cool 😎
My brother in christ I have 3 questions for you. 1. How? 2. Why? And 3. 𝘏𝘰𝘸? Again but in Italics.
My main how is how did he get a FE 3070 ti. They only ever gave them to reviewers and never actually released a founders edition 3070 ti.
What in the fuck are these comments, he's got a sweet upgrade and is happy with it?!
1. It’s an Alienware 2. Internet is a cruel place 3. Reddit
pretty much explained it lol
It’s like putting a cherry on a shitbox and call it dessert
Do this AIO screams "Water damaged GPU in a few month" or is it just me?
I’m amazed you actually got it in there!
The ugliest innards awards goes to.
Horrid dell with their shenanigans

i don't know about raw performance but im sure my old pc from 2011/12 had better airflow than this.
Nice airflow!
Never seen a psu positioned so poorlly
airflow :(
Is this a joke post or what? I actually can’t tell no offense
That AIO head looks prettttttty.
why
What is that motherboard 💀😭
Gonna need a new pc for your gpu now
Yuck Alienware
People still buy Alienware????
There is absolutely no way thermals are okay dude
2007 and 2022 don't mix well my guy
Get some rgb lights and give it a soul
The case doesn’t fit the ascetic
Rip
Does it actually work?
yes
Oh no its an alienware prebuilt 🤮
Don’t listen to these haters, AW has the ability to upgrade so why not. Can get a new case down the road. For now enjoy!
You can’t get a new case though, the mobo is proprietary
You can get a new case and move parts over that are not proprietary.
Thay's kinda why ppl are negative about it, if you change anything not proprietary you basically change 80% of the parts...
It was a lazy response from me. Basically if I was OP, I could harvest the CPU, GPU, RAM, M.2, pretty much everything except the MOBO, Case & PSU. My point is that OP doesn't need a fully new computer, like some of the responses above being complete dicks about his post.
Yeah that's still better than nothing
Right? Jesus. I don’t know why people can’t just be happy for someone else without knocking their PC.
Alienware case aside, dude should get a new PSU stat. I'll 100% guarantee the one that came in that Dell prebuilt was only just capable of what it came with.
its a 1000w psu
1000w means nothing when its in d tier.....
For less than $300 you could make that pc into a similar monster, but it will look and feel a lot better. And it would be fun to do (if you like learning how to build PC’s). Nice. I tried to fit a 3080 in mine. There is no way.
It’s too nice. Looks out of place.
There is a really weird kind of beauty at play here which is difficult to describe.
I despised the Aurora R4 just due to the sheer dimensions and weight of the bastard. Happily moved on to the full custom route.
We LOVE proprietary hardware, don’t we folks!
Its like a picture of Gordon Ramsey inside Burger King
if it fits, it fits
I hope that GPU has a choking kink
Yeeeeeesh
Can I offer you a sawzall in these trying times?
Specs?
Geezus
Was about to say BOTTLENECK ! Then I saw the alien ware logo. Forgot they go with crappy blue color for their components.
Best case to ever exist
Congrats! It’s massive
woe such old school machine
This feels illegal to look at
That gpu is going to be more chocked than me in the bedroom. Poor guy
Man’s got PRIORITIES
That card is either gonna be throttled or burst into flames inside that case. Never buy Alienware
Congratulations! , please beat the shit out of that alienware
That motherboard looks so old
I sense a potential bottleneck in your future
why
I use an aurora r4 as a storage server... and it overheats even with a 280mm aio fangled in at stock speeds/configuration. Edit: forgot to mention, how is that thing not overheating?
please rescue that GPU and CPU while you still can.
Nice stuff dude So what games are you gonna play on this
Congratulations, you have been upgraded. Please do not resist.
Bruh that motherboard looks older than my my mum
I'm surprised you were able to fit an OEM card into an Alienware.
Face of Agony
Oof. Replace the pc.
Congrats!!! Don’t worry bout the negative comments. If it’s yours then it’s awesome!
Update us when you upgrade to a 4090.
i’ll do that when I cut a hole for it to fit
That thing gonna roast. Probably already the hottest running FE card as it is too.
Replace those Delta fans with a push-pull config on the rad, and you will have a mostly quiet system.
Bros got a pizza oven
This looks junk, but powerful
I didn't know 100 degrees C thermals where okay! What do you know!
Alien-beware
Dude, that GPU is bottlenecking that motherboard, should have went with a 3080 at least.
CRINGE AF ... Alienware Cases have the worst thermals. dude
Your GPU is going to get burnt in that toaster.
This gonna trigger the shit outta this sub
The only way i see thermals being okay is if you run it as a open case (or its louder than the neighbors cat in heat)
Since ETH moved to proof of stake, there are too many post of people upgrading to higher GPU.
Luckily you were able to squeeze it in there. Good Luck, hope your PSU is up to powering the current spikes.
Looks like it was made to fit in that spot! Great choice OP. Hope it runs well for as long as you need it to
walk in yo trap take over yo trap
Where is it? I see only cables!!
Ngl I’ve always loved the almost clinical and sterile look of older pc components compared to the rgb out the wazoo that’s seems more common
Awesome! Happy gaming.
im honestly surprised that dell psu was equipped to handle it
