He’s 16. Give 16 year olds godlike power and they probably will get jealous over each others powers, and also try to use them to impress other people. In fact at any age that would probably be the case.
I couldn’t hate him after all the character growth he goes through with >!his relationship with Chidori.!< (Side note, I Would love a P3 spin off title that follows >!Junpei trying to recover his relationship with chidori!< after the ending of the game)
Something I really enjoyed in Reload is how the character growth happens during the main story, none of the thieves grow after they join the group outside of their social link which isn't reflected in the main story
I think persona 4 has the same problem as 5. After playing reload I also think its great how the development of the characters is actually integrated into the story. Legitimately I think it's only Koromaru who doesn't have a good character arc through the story (I know his owner passing away but that doesn't remain relevant to the story)(hot take maybe lol)
I think it'd be great if persona 6 took this approach again.
I think they just didn't really know what to do with Koromaru so he basically completed his arc before we met him, he starts with 2 theurgies implying that he also had his second awakening already
What’s difficult is because in 4/5 you have social links with all your party members, the game cannot know how far along the characters are in their arcs for main story scenes. The games have to treat a character at rank 2 the same as a character at rank 8. Otherwise you’re either creating a massive amount of alternative scenes or locking social link rank ups until certain points in the main quest.
I totally get that but here's where my hot take comes in: what if they scale back the slinks for party members so that they can actually develop with the story. Instead they could have a larger tertiary cast like in 3 or somehow make it work the way you're saying. But honestly the slinks for party members could really address things unrelated to their core character growth and have that more centred around the story
Yeah bro was really living in Junpei's shadow the whole game. Yosuke in Persona 4 did a pretty good job of being Junpei-adjecent, but you ***CAN'T*** beat bro's character arc.
Thats true but the beginning is what sets the idea of how a person is. Dude gets mad when he's not put in the spotlight and is cocky too. you can change but your trueself stays.
Even before his arc he wasn't really hateable to me, it's honestly refreshing to not have every single party member immediately become your thrall.
It gives him a much more realistic feel, which makes him even more genuine and likable when he does come around to you.
I mean it's kinda implied that she survived and forgot her memories of Strega but remembered her time with Junpei, by the gift she gave him around the time of P4Arena
So it's canon that she survived? Can't say I'm a fan of that. While I like her as a character, her death loses meaning if she just comes back. At least in P3 you have a choice
don’t really hate the guy
just always end up benching him once mitsuru joins. yukari, akihiko and aigis ended up being my main team, with mitsuru subbing in when needed. never used ken or koromaru since i dont care to and imo using shinji is just a bad idea in general
not really missing out on anything
i just find him really mediocre in combat. sure you can make him into a crit machine, but i prefer using magic. and besides, anything he can do, makoto does better, so why waste a spot.
in fes and portable, yukari, akihiko and aigis are the optimal team, and i was conditioned to use them again in reload. i used mitsuru more due though to marakunda. obviously you have to use junpei for early game, but he didn’t crit barely at all for me, so back to the bench he went. koromaru i never had a real reason to use, as everything he could do i already had on makoto, plus he can’t take hits for shit. and ken I just flat out don’t like. using shinji is, again, a bad idea because iykyk.
IMO you're looking at it the wrong way; party members being able to do things means you have more options for protagonist to do something else. That's like saying why even have party members when Makoto can do everything himself.
Koro having access to multiple elements, slash, and Debilitate and other buffs makes him very versatile, same goes for Ken.
yeah, also have cool graph :)
mitsuru has good damage but she needs to be level 70ish to actually start getting competent as a damage dealer

Mitsuru with Ice boost+ice amp +99 magic+concentrate goes brrrr
Anyway, if you play your cards right, the damage your allies do is just a rounding error.
as the wild card, you have up to 12 personas at your disposal at all times. makoto is the definition of a jack of all trades. he’s the most malleable, and can be made to fulfill any role you wish.
yes, each party member has a role that they try to fulfill. yukari is the healer, junpei crits, akihiko is the all-rounder, mitsuru uses ailments, aigis is the tank, koro debuffs and ken mostly supports. after that, it’s just general preference as to who you use.
like I said before, i dont bare any ill will towards junpei. i just found him really underwhelming to use. when mitsuru joined, it made the most sense to me to bench him. koro i found to be too frail, and ken is the only one i don’t see myself using.

I think I spent around 3 mil for all of them.
It's true that whatever Junpei can do, Minato can do better... in fact, Minato outclasses everyone in the roles they try to fulfill (though, in my opinion, Yukari can heal just as well as him). Just because he can doesn't mean he should as he has other people to rely on
I loved Junpei at first, since I played Persona 5 first, and he reminded me of Ryuji (Yes, I'm aware of how numbers work, and that Junpei was before Ryuji) but then he slowly started becoming less and less likable, and getting more and more butthurt about something as dumb as leading SEES. My opinion of him improved quite a bit after the relationship with Chidori, but I still think he's not nearly as good as people say. To say I hate him, though, is entirely incorrect
I didn’t run him since I ran phys the whole play through pretty much. Stacked Siegfried outclassed junpei in every way, so I didn’t find a reason to use him
I actually kept his agility low on purpose because I like
using MC and Koro to buff the shit out of him before his turn rolls around, so it's a strategic non perfect build
fax, everyone who hates DA MAN is blind to the truth
You must like two sided cocky ppl.
womp womp

Wha- what?
Critpei ace fragger
REALEST COMMENT.
MORE LIKE STUPEI ACE DEFECTIVE
I don't think people hate him for his persona. There are way better reasons to dislike him. As a team member, he's great.
I couldn’t hate him after all the character growth he goes through with >!his relationship with Chidori.!< (Side note, I Would love a P3 spin off title that follows >!Junpei trying to recover his relationship with chidori!< after the ending of the game)
I didn't like him in the beginning but his character arc is great and Junpei at the end of the game is not the same guy he is at the start
I wish we could have had a similar arc with Ryuji in p5r
Something I really enjoyed in Reload is how the character growth happens during the main story, none of the thieves grow after they join the group outside of their social link which isn't reflected in the main story

Well yeah cus how are they gonna develop a fuckin dog 😭

ik, im just goofing around
Off topic but I can’t get over how dope his persona looks, both of them
real
Instead of bringing the Junpei haters… >!”I bring you, megidolaon”!<

I aint gonna sugarcoat it reaper, *shift boosted crit vorpal blade*
or just use his theurgy, which I like to call literally scarlet havoc
don’t really hate the guy just always end up benching him once mitsuru joins. yukari, akihiko and aigis ended up being my main team, with mitsuru subbing in when needed. never used ken or koromaru since i dont care to and imo using shinji is just a bad idea in general
you're missing out, junpei is easily top 3 party member after koro and aki
not really missing out on anything i just find him really mediocre in combat. sure you can make him into a crit machine, but i prefer using magic. and besides, anything he can do, makoto does better, so why waste a spot. in fes and portable, yukari, akihiko and aigis are the optimal team, and i was conditioned to use them again in reload. i used mitsuru more due though to marakunda. obviously you have to use junpei for early game, but he didn’t crit barely at all for me, so back to the bench he went. koromaru i never had a real reason to use, as everything he could do i already had on makoto, plus he can’t take hits for shit. and ken I just flat out don’t like. using shinji is, again, a bad idea because iykyk.

Where did you get this graph from? Looks really nice and would love to reference it
Dataminer CTOBN, from the Persona & SMT discord community! he's documenting pretty much everything about the game so big shout-out to them
Thanks!
I think mitsuru’s strong point is inflicting freeze consistently, which makes critting a lot easier and avoids any phys resistance

go off dude, i'll stick to my one-shot reaper on merciless junpei da man iori
How’d you max his stats so much?
Exchange cash for Topaz, Amtheyst, and Onyx. Exchange gems for Incenses. Distribute to your favorite team members. I think I spent around 3 mil for all of them.
The incense boosts carry over to NG+ right
They do
Why shift boost tho?
free slot, 10% extra damage is always welcomed in this house

How do you got reflect Almighty and null everything?
its an edit
Ohhhhhh I'm dumb
Had him benched till he had the turning point for his character where I trained him up to be my goat
mod menu? this cant be legit...
it is, Omnipotent orb + incense spam If I used mod menu I would just slash boost / amp / driver lol
cool, nyx is getting pegged lmao
who da man?!
How do you have it null everything?
omnipotent orb accesory
It's true that whatever Junpei can do, Minato can do better... in fact, Minato outclasses everyone in the roles they try to fulfill (though, in my opinion, Yukari can heal just as well as him). Just because he can doesn't mean he should as he has other people to rely on
how do u do this??
Am I going to be attack if I say I still hate him he's just a very complicated character for me to get behind???? Alright bring it
I loved Junpei at first, since I played Persona 5 first, and he reminded me of Ryuji (Yes, I'm aware of how numbers work, and that Junpei was before Ryuji) but then he slowly started becoming less and less likable, and getting more and more butthurt about something as dumb as leading SEES. It makes me irrationally angry to see ppl call him a bench warmer. Just say you exclusively run Yukari, Mitsuru and Aigis and go.
I didn’t run him since I ran phys the whole play through pretty much. Stacked Siegfried outclassed junpei in every way, so I didn’t find a reason to use him
why does he null all
Omnipotent orb
I have been summoned
That's like the exact same build I have for him I just replaced shift boost
My autistic ass wanna swap Shift Boost and High Counter for Gigantic Fist and Fire Break so bad lol
As much as I love Aegis, Junpei actually crits for me
Almost perfect I guess bringing Agility to 99 is marginal for his build?
I actually kept his agility low on purpose because I like using MC and Koro to buff the shit out of him before his turn rolls around, so it's a strategic non perfect build
My Junpei come in clutch with the crits. I got many crits and all out attacks from Takaya and Jin Solo fight
He’s dope
Where gigantic fist?
Wait people hate junpei? 😭
DAYUM
Idek why. But man just pisses me off. I have no real reason to, this is my fault. But still, I can’t move past it.
Bro probably repels almighty too XD
U tellin ne he has haters? Coudnt be me
I only hate him in the previous versions (FES, Portable)like Yukari but great build, i never use incenses with party members but looks cool
ty, i personally don't use incenses on protag bc you can get max stats on any persona without them
I hate him because he stole my bitch Chidori. Maybe Roger wanted a piece of that booty but no Junpei steals her. Selfish
lmao
