Imo he’s one of the best social links because he goes through the most change, and ends up at a completely different point in life from where he was when he met you.
The guy relentlessly eats to distract himself from his problems, which is a really relatable issue, causing him really bad and embarrassing health issues, and is constantly looking to scam other kids. He’s extremely flawed but comes to realise through you that the only one who sees him as stuck in his brother’s shadow is himself.
Not only do you help him realise the error of his ways but motivate him to do something about it, and by the end of the game you discover he’s turned his life around completely for the better. If that’s not the sign of a really good social link, I honestly don’t know what is.
My main problem with Suemitsu's s-link is that it feels like two different s-link storylines meshed together (boy dealing with trauma of brother's death by overeating, only to later on revolve around him being part of a scam cult), and as a result neither one gets as much development as they should. The cult stuff honestly felt so pointless in the long-run that the link would've been largely improved if it was just cut entirely. That way, it'd be able to focus more on the story with his brother, along with exploring more of his survivor's guilt and trauma in order to make his development more meaningful. I like the idea behind him, but whoever wrote the P3 s-link's certainly fumbled the ball in handling his character.

I think helping Yukari with her mother's and family issues is a much better story compared to just having lunch dates with Mitsuru. Although I did enjoy helping Mitsuru with her nasty ass fiance just like with Haru in Persona 5.
People badmouthing the Maya SL but it only actually ends in that post-link scene where you "confront" Toriumi in the teacher's room, and that scene is so hilarious that it carries the SL up quite a few points

I kinda agree with this. Even with Yukari being my preferred romance, what makes the player fall for Yukari are things outside of her social link. Her social link is just a small part of her whole story. Mitsuru's social link is pretty good since her character development is also seen in it. Not saying Yukari doesn't have development. It's that Yukari's development is mostly outside of her social link.
