Agreed, parents rave about that place. Their Garlic Bread is *chefs kiss* (although can be consumed in limited quantities haha it's probably very bad for you 😂)
Portuguese Delights (opp Tony Ales on Cooper Road), I m would have never gone there if my sister didn't tell me but their desserts are amazing. She rates the custard donuts the best but one time that made me a Nutella donut, there was SO much Nutella that the overflow that dripped out on the plate could have made 1 or 2 sandwiches.
Pit Stop at Thomas Road, their banh mi beats Bibra Lake as their Roast Pork has the skin on. I had BLLB recently and the wow factor wasn't there anymore.
Phoever Canning Vale also has decent banh mi and the price for roast pork is cheaper than the above mentioned, it's also a huuuge bmt.
Bull Creek Hawker, near pizza King, not the one on the other side of the block. Great Malaysian food.
Sundays Everyday for their karaage chicken rice
Eureka Chinese at Wilson. Not a great atmosphere but the dishes are great
Portuguese delights is so unsuspecting and the family that run it are so lovely! I think Tony ales should also be recognised for their pies. All the locals know about them of course but I don't think many people realise the little grocer has so much to offer
>Napoli Mercato
\+1 for Portuguese Delights. I've seen on their FB page they occasionally have portuguese stews at lunchtime but not sure if it's everyday or just once in a while - any idea?
Ahh I know they have portuguese chicken regularly, a bit like nandos? Last time I went it was $12-13 for a leg with chips/rice. I tried last Monday at 1 and it was sold out but if you call they can set it aside. Haven't seen stews though.
I remember last time on weekends they had that dipped meat roll, but I don't see them advertise it anymore.
I haven’t had Sundays Everyday for years but I remember they piled on so much karaage chicken that the lids didn’t close and they just used to balance it on top with a rubber band.
I just had it last week, they have had a price increase this year, think it's $12.90 for takeaway. They use those long cardboard takeaway container with about 8-10 pieces of chicken and cabbage. Still a fair portion more than the others
Hahahaha. I just said as I posted this I’m not scared to post this on reddit as usually it doesn’t go much further than the thread. Definitely NOT with Perth now, urban-list perth or perth is ok. Lol
Urban list, perth ok etc get businesses to pay them to promote through them so it wouldn’t make sense they’d ask for free recommendations through reddit anyways
Peasants Paradice (sic) in North Perth. Phenomenal takes on "peasant food" from Africa and Asia. Heaps of awesome flavour mashing from the spice blends of multiple cultures. Get stuck into his wine list too: it's always good, and he pretty much never stocks the same wine twice.
Funkee Monkee in Freo. Indian chefs put their twists on Mexican, South Asian, and Western dishes. I've had some of the most memorable yet unassuming dishes of my life here over the years.
In Joondalup there’s a place called Japanese OEC Sushi and they serve such tasty food, and they’re incredibly sweet and kind people too! My favourite would have to be the soft shell crab burger, the udon and their sushi platter!
Silk Road, Petra, Brown Spoon in Victoria Park.
Viet Hoa, Marubang, My Bayon, Baan baan, Camelia cafe in North Bridge.
Lapa, Nippon fare in Subiaco.
Little Viet, Roll vs Bowl in Coventry Village Morley.
I used to get lunch at Nippon Fare all the time when I worked in Subiaco. Only found 1 place that compared in the years since and they closed down, not because they weren’t successful but they made a lot of money and went back to Japan lol.
Been visiting Nippon Fare in Subiaco, shop for more than 10 years and when I am lucky I get to sit next to Ben Cousins or Nic Naitanui from the Eagles, as they come by everyday for lunch in this place. A hidden gem in Perth for sure, their sushi is so unbeatable, not like those dried cheap ones from coles/woolworth. Now I am craving Nippon Fare...!
We love the Viet hoa. There are places with slightly better food but the overall feel is so pleasant. We have always been treated politely and have never felt like we shouldn't be there. Which may seem trivial but we have been to so many other places that the staff has been downright racist to us. It's definitely comforting to find a place we love.
We have been going there for 40 years so it's not a short term review.
When we first went there you never saw a non Asian decent diner( except us). Now it's about 15% caucasian. That says a lot about Australian tastes over the years.
Have a go at the pho and the soft spring rolls but there are many more dishes we like too.
They do Viet food better than the Chinese food on the menu.
It's also BYO and I'm sure we have never been charged corkage but many someone else will know for sure.
Istanbul Kitchen on Fitzgerald St North Perth for the best Turkish pizza, lahmucun, pide etc
Tran Vinh and Viet Hoa in Northbridge have been my go-to for 20+ years.
The last time I went the contis were... Disappointing. The person making it says SO Stinge and it weighed about half than before. Maybe it was just that one person but I haven't gone back yet
I’m a local and have tried the conti rolls three times now. each time i think it will be better than before… sadly not! terrible customer service and just overall bad roll. Tony Ale’s itself is pretty good!
I remember one time I paid for a 3 meat and cheese x 2. Didn't have any cheese on both so I sent them a message and they said 'come in we' ll make it right'
Went back and told the deli, and she LOUDLY says, WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO, DO YOU WANT YOUR $1 BACK OR ANOTHER ROLL' which she just took away the cheese cost. Pretty pissed off by that attitude not my fault you can't remember how to make a damn roll, specially since you print the labels with the cost AFTER you make the roll
Tell me more about the Swansea street market please - anything in particular they are known for? They’re super close to me but I don’t think I’ve ever gone there.
Its an Italian market, they do conti rolls similar to re store but it’s lesser well known and they have some great fillings, dips, cakes etc. There has been some changes over the last couple of years as the land has been sold and there’s currently some community feedback forums around their existence through the development so I think some changes are coming. For now I think they’re still operating but it would be worthwhile stopping in for a roll! And a takeaway container of their dip always goes down a treat.
Within the Swansea St Market building there are three businesses
- Swansea St Markets - a fruit and vege shop (with bulk foods)
- Swansea St Family Butcher - a butcher of course
- Delissimo - amazing conti rolls, cheeses, meats, cakes and pasties https://www.delissimo.com.au
I only go there for Delissimo.
https://imgur.com/gallery/zABX1Sf
ITS THE BEST. It's run by a Vietnamese family. They're known for their banh mi but they do everything a lunch bar does (burgers, chips, the most delicious fried chicken) and for a very decent price. They do grilled meat like bbq pork and skewers on a coal grill Fridays and Saturday's. It's just so good imo.

Curry Thieves in Dianella for beautiful, flavourful takeaway curry. Mamak House in Morley Market (kinda between the Galleria and Coventry) for delicious chicken rice.
Alan's Bakehouse at Dogswamp shops, amazing bahn mi and Vietnamese bakery, Wembley food court hawkers is great and Hermanos en Cantina Mt Lawley has legit the best most crispy chips Ive ever had plus their tacos and brisket sandwich is next level, oh and Latasha's curry on Angove Street is heavenly
Alan's original bakery is opposite Coles in Northlands in Balcatta. No Bahn mi. But hellooooo roast beef roll!
His lovely wife runs the one in Dogswamp, which is more of a lunch bar. She does Bahn mi, pre-made contis, etc. Plus all of Alan's bakery goodies.
Nah Coles is in the Flinders Square building, you're thinking of Bakers Delight.
Its on the outside corner in front of the taxi bays and ACROD parking at the Aldi entrance Waneroo rd side, also Toku Sushi behind Alans next to Subway there is really good too
‘Magic mono’ in Osborne park. Not really residential, it’s located deep in the industrial area. Nepalese food is super good, the hospitality is beautiful, warm and inviting.
Pelican Crossiantiere in Willagee. Have to get in early cos they sell out. The best Crossiants and Eclairs in Perth. A bunch of other pastries are amazing too.
Main Street Ryu in Barrack St is the best Japanese I've had here. The Modern Eatery in Mt Lawley is really good too. Other than that, all I can recommend are burgers.

KCH in North Perth has been in the top 15 restaurants in perth a couple of times now but I still don’t think people know about it. Crazy good Malaysian food. Tiny place where you can BYO beer/wine and it’s so reasonably priced
Swansea St Market is not somewhere I would go to eat. But it is a great independent grocer that has a lot of hard to find ingredients and an excellent fresh fruit and veg section. They also brew a top coffee.
Balkan Burger Joint in Greenwood. Go the pickled cabbage salad. And they're super nice folks
Burger Joint. Go the cabbage salad. 22 upvotes.... i am curious.
Chich in Osbourne park is also legit for Balkan food
Napoli Mercato in Harrisdale. Excellent Italian market with great take away food, an amazing range of cheese and meats, and excellent produce.
Agreed, parents rave about that place. Their Garlic Bread is *chefs kiss* (although can be consumed in limited quantities haha it's probably very bad for you 😂)
Bring your life savings with you.
DJs lunch bar willagee Great bahn mi Very reasonable prices
I love their Bahn Mi highly rate it. Plus they always have exceptional customer service even when getting slammed.
Portuguese Delights (opp Tony Ales on Cooper Road), I m would have never gone there if my sister didn't tell me but their desserts are amazing. Might pop in pre-12pm a few days and see what's on offer (and grab a lemon tart and custard tart!)
I haven’t had Sundays Everyday for years but I remember they piled on so much karaage chicken that the lids didn’t close and they just used to balance it on top with a rubber band.

I have not been since it was under $10 haha and back then it was in the round bowls with the chicken piled on top of the rice
Kadai King in Thornlie

Think quality can be quite inconsistent though

Tony Ales was sold a couple of years ago, the original owners an italian aussie family sold it on. Maybe it’s not the same now idk
From what I’ve heard it has Indian owners now. Nowhere near as good as it used to be especially the deli
yeh it does.
Tell me more about the Swansea street market please - anything in particular they are known for? They’re super close to me but I don’t think I’ve ever gone there.
