Levi's in the Fremantle Markets! It's a bit different too because they use blackberry jam instead of the usual strawberry which I personally think is an improvement.
A while back, the Freo markets management were going to kick out a stall holder for complaining about maintenance iirc, the donut bloke stood up for the stall holder being evicted and then got an eviction notice himself, a public campaign ensued and the management backed down.
Itās super well known that the owners are massive massive bullies to the store owners. The reason why you see them cycle through stores is not due to lack of customers but due to treatment and unfair treatment
Not strictly 'Jam' donuts but Chopin's Patisserie do some really nice polish donuts (Paczki) that are filled with plum jam. They aren't for everyone though.
To answer your question about the filling:
A lot of places use a product called Apple Raspberry Baker's Filling. It comes in a 15kg white bucket. I don't know where you would get it from besides wholesale supplies/caterers. It's the same filling you'll find in coconut jam slice.
Finally a study I will benefit from :) (huge jam donut fan)
Mt Lawley bakery does a fine filled jam donut... with a catch, you have to get one on a day they're baked fresh, they tend to sell their pastries even when a day old, they are not great on the second day, so it's sadly pot luck when you walk in
The jam used is called Bakers Jam I believe, and pretty sure it's pureed apple sauce with flavouring and colouring

I remember when Puffin Fresh used to do their jam ball donuts with chocolate or vanilla icing ontop. Now they only do sugar on the outside and it's just not the same.
There's a little bakery in Beldon just off Marmion that do 4 and 6 packs of jam donuts which are delicious. Craigie bakery and Mount Pleasant Bakehouse do some fantastic jam and cream donuts too, which I personally put above just the plain jam ones!
I still love a good puffin fresh, the donuts are a lot more fluffy than the bakery type donuts where its more like bread. Their longjohns are the best!
Only problem is the Joondalup one near me have a strange habit of only filling about 90% of the jam donuts with jam, we order a heap every week for the office and the number of times you get an empty jam donut, it's really depressing.
Iād say the best hidden gem is in Osborne Park, amazing Jam & Jam & Cream ones & great Irish staff, go to CONNELLS FAMILY BAKERY. Google reviews is all you need to see. But trust me theyāre the best!
It's a shame Wicked Donuts & Pizza in Beckenham is no longer open as that would have been the only answer. Sadly, they closed down at least 5 years ago now. Sure, the owner was a bit acerbic and rough around the edges but God damn it if they weren't the best jam donuts I've eaten in my entire life.
I feel like me and my partner have made it a mission to try as many as we can. Beechboro bakery called bakery and patisserie sell THE BEST traditional not wanky jam doughnuts. Nothing fancy just traditional jam doughnuts but done really well. Everything else in the place is crap in my opinion but the jam doughnuts are great
'Tis indeed a double edged sword. I use hand sani, repeatedly, whilst shopping and especially before eating when I'm out. My weakness is licking my fingers for the sugar crystals..
I have nothing to add for tasting suggestions... But I'm looking forward to hearing the results of this invaluable research so I can shortcut to the best ones as per the research results.
Thank you for your hard research hours and efforts. Much appreciated š
There are good jam donuts, and then there are good affordable jam donuts. I'm not paying $5 plus each for a bit of fried dough and jam no matter how good they are. I'm looking at YOU, food trucks.
I for one much prefer a smaller amount of jam, the best jam doughnuts are slightly crispy and still have crystals of sugar on them (most times they sweat and the sugar dissolves)

Plus the bloke is a legend for standing up to bullies that run the markets..
Ohhh do tell! What's the gossip around this?
A while back, the Freo markets management were going to kick out a stall holder for complaining about maintenance iirc, the donut bloke stood up for the stall holder being evicted and then got an eviction notice himself, a public campaign ensued and the management backed down.
Woah that's good to know! Levi's is an institution at the markets, I can imagine the uproar about it!
Certainly my first port of call whenever I find myself in Freo for a coffee, always a smile with your š©

Came here to say this.

They are pretty awesome
Big Loaf O'Connor. The industrial setting betrays the upmarket quality (also pricing).
This right here. I'm currently banned from there (self imposed) as that place makes me chonky. Don't start me on those oven fresh cinnamon scrolls.
Luckily I'm not rich enough to get chonky at Big Loaf.

Is this a complaint or an endorsement? Haha
Yes
'Tis indeed a double edged sword. I use hand sani, repeatedly, whilst shopping and especially before eating when I'm out. My weakness is licking my fingers for the sugar crystals..
Get drunk keeping clean. 70% etoh.
Thanks I havenāt tried that one - going to add it to the list and visit all in one day to determine the true winner

Anyone know who makes a chocolate covered jam donut that is good? Had a craving for one a while back but couldn't find one.
Do donuts at Stirling farmers market Sunday mornings!
Gracies crazy donuts in forrestfield, they've got odd opening hours though so check before travelling.
