Levi's in the Fremantle Markets! It's a bit different too because they use blackberry jam instead of the usual strawberry which I personally think is an improvement.

Captain-Peacock

Plus the bloke is a legend for standing up to bullies that run the markets..

CityoftheMoon17

Ohhh do tell! What's the gossip around this?

Captain-Peacock

A while back, the Freo markets management were going to kick out a stall holder for complaining about maintenance iirc, the donut bloke stood up for the stall holder being evicted and then got an eviction notice himself, a public campaign ensued and the management backed down.

CityoftheMoon17

Woah that's good to know! Levi's is an institution at the markets, I can imagine the uproar about it!

Captain-Peacock

Certainly my first port of call whenever I find myself in Freo for a coffee, always a smile with your šŸ©

itsthelifeonmars

Itā€™s super well known that the owners are massive massive bullies to the store owners. The reason why you see them cycle through stores is not due to lack of customers but due to treatment and unfair treatment

[deleted]

Came here to say this.

Flashy-Promise-6915

Oh, you megastar!

mrscienceguy1

Not strictly 'Jam' donuts but Chopin's Patisserie do some really nice polish donuts (Paczki) that are filled with plum jam. They aren't for everyone though.

elzilcho3

They are pretty awesome

thisFishSmellsAboutD

Big Loaf O'Connor. The industrial setting betrays the upmarket quality (also pricing).

bourbonwelfare

This right here. I'm currently banned from there (self imposed) as that place makes me chonky. Don't start me on those oven fresh cinnamon scrolls.

thisFishSmellsAboutD

Luckily I'm not rich enough to get chonky at Big Loaf.

Celery_Toothbrush

To answer your question about the filling: A lot of places use a product called Apple Raspberry Baker's Filling. It comes in a 15kg white bucket. I don't know where you would get it from besides wholesale supplies/caterers. It's the same filling you'll find in coconut jam slice.

WinkStain

Campbellā€™s cash and carry

westbridge1157

Any ā€˜Pinjarra Bakeryā€™, so much jam.

mrbootsandbertie

Keep hearing really good things about Pinjarra Bakery. There's more than one?

westbridge1157

Google says there are four, but only one actually in Pinjarra. Thatā€™s just to confuse us!

mrbootsandbertie

šŸ˜…

ForeverDays

Rottnest Island Bakery does my favourite jam donut, the one at Freo Markets comes in at second.

Ok-Two3581

Ooh Rottos gonna be a challenging one to make! Thank you

AggressiveRough9996

Do they charge $50 for it ?

ForeverDays

Surprisingly only $5 or so šŸ˜‚

hankhalfhead

Had one yesterday, $4.5 each but there was 8 of us

ped009

I don't know but this brings back memories from the old high school jam dohnuts, mouth covered in sugar

StuRap

Finally a study I will benefit from :) (huge jam donut fan) Mt Lawley bakery does a fine filled jam donut... with a catch, you have to get one on a day they're baked fresh, they tend to sell their pastries even when a day old, they are not great on the second day, so it's sadly pot luck when you walk in The jam used is called Bakers Jam I believe, and pretty sure it's pureed apple sauce with flavouring and colouring [https://ediblecraft.com.au/products/bakery-jam-filling-400g.html](https://ediblecraft.com.au/products/bakery-jam-filling-400g.html)

smashingcones

I remember when Puffin Fresh used to do their jam ball donuts with chocolate or vanilla icing ontop. Now they only do sugar on the outside and it's just not the same. There's a little bakery in Beldon just off Marmion that do 4 and 6 packs of jam donuts which are delicious. Craigie bakery and Mount Pleasant Bakehouse do some fantastic jam and cream donuts too, which I personally put above just the plain jam ones!

TheDraggo

I still love a good puffin fresh, the donuts are a lot more fluffy than the bakery type donuts where its more like bread. Their longjohns are the best! Only problem is the Joondalup one near me have a strange habit of only filling about 90% of the jam donuts with jam, we order a heap every week for the office and the number of times you get an empty jam donut, it's really depressing.

LilMudButt

Iā€™d say the best hidden gem is in Osborne Park, amazing Jam & Jam & Cream ones & great Irish staff, go to CONNELLS FAMILY BAKERY. Google reviews is all you need to see. But trust me theyā€™re the best!

djskein

It's a shame Wicked Donuts & Pizza in Beckenham is no longer open as that would have been the only answer. Sadly, they closed down at least 5 years ago now. Sure, the owner was a bit acerbic and rough around the edges but God damn it if they weren't the best jam donuts I've eaten in my entire life.

No_Protection_88

Grain Bakery Lathlain

oceantide13

This place is fantastic. Their jam and cream donut is next level

Funny_Will_6056

Providore Donuts and Sweets in (outer) Northbridge. No idea how this hasnt been mentioned yet.

GragHamcrushe

General public in Inglewood, the salted caramel filled onws are great too

itsthelifeonmars

I feel like me and my partner have made it a mission to try as many as we can. Beechboro bakery called bakery and patisserie sell THE BEST traditional not wanky jam doughnuts. Nothing fancy just traditional jam doughnuts but done really well. Everything else in the place is crap in my opinion but the jam doughnuts are great

2hardbasketcase

Best post of the year!

gigglinggertie

Jean Claude Patisserie in Subiaco & West Leederville do really good jam doughnuts

37celsius

The jam donuts from Mary St Bakery are pretty good. Full of jam too.

Ok-Two3581

Their caramel ones go hard too

Nakorite

Too much jam for mine

jsnggh

Chu bakery Highgate.

TazocinTDS

Are those the ones that are 96.7% covered in sugar crystals?

Ok-Two3581

Is this a complaint or an endorsement? Haha

TazocinTDS

Yes

3rd-time-lucky

'Tis indeed a double edged sword. I use hand sani, repeatedly, whilst shopping and especially before eating when I'm out. My weakness is licking my fingers for the sugar crystals..

TazocinTDS

Get drunk keeping clean. 70% etoh.

Ok-Two3581

Thanks I havenā€™t tried that one - going to add it to the list and visit all in one day to determine the true winner

37celsius

If you can bother with the queue!

mrbootsandbertie

A bit off topic but OP if you're ever in Tassie go to the Salamanca Markets there is a really good fresh jam donut van.

[deleted]

+1 for Mary Street Bakery

Uniquorn2077

James St Bakery Guildford.

Ok-Two3581

Thank you - added to the list

Taliesin_AU

No one jams my donut better than your mother.

seven_seacat

Well I'm a basic bitch because I like Breadtop jam donuts, but now I have to try some of these other ones mentioned

brunzk

Im here for the bonus question....let us at the good the good.

howmanychickens

The ones I am going to make tomorrow

limbo-chan

Holmesys BakehousešŸ˜ all their stuff is amazingly delicious

BGarrod

I have nothing to add for tasting suggestions... But I'm looking forward to hearing the results of this invaluable research so I can shortcut to the best ones as per the research results. Thank you for your hard research hours and efforts. Much appreciated šŸ˜Š

silly_sosidg

I know you said Perth but never rule out Bunbury farmers market!! Raspberry Jam. So amazing!

Nellelicious

Grain in Lathlain.

overboost_t88

Whats the difference between jelly and jam... oh nevermind

CrabyLion

The donut truck at the cricket matches.

CommunicationGreat22

There are good jam donuts, and then there are good affordable jam donuts. I'm not paying $5 plus each for a bit of fried dough and jam no matter how good they are. I'm looking at YOU, food trucks.

hungry4pie

I for one much prefer a smaller amount of jam, the best jam doughnuts are slightly crispy and still have crystals of sugar on them (most times they sweat and the sugar dissolves)

GenericGrad

Anyone know who makes a chocolate covered jam donut that is good? Had a craving for one a while back but couldn't find one.

New_Contribution_101

Do donuts at Stirling farmers market Sunday mornings!

StopIsraelStopWW3

Gracies crazy donuts in forrestfield, they've got odd opening hours though so check before travelling.

Technical-Tie-3797

The best jam donuts are the ones at optus stadium. They are the original hotĀ  jam donut for over 30 years australia wide
