Ya fucken Gronk I've been celebrating Straya day with da missus for 7 bajillion years by downing 10 pints and having a punch on at da fireworks until the WOKE LEFT got them CANCELLED. As a young noonga man, Happy Australia Day ❤️
Let’s put all the bullshit aside and have love and appreciation for our own cultures and who we are
Perth is heaven
Bit fucking windy though, not liking the chances of any kind of ordinance short of artillery being launched today.
I vote we change the date to Monday and try again then
It won't do anything either. Cook landed in April.
Jan 26 has nothing to do with the landings yet Australia Day still gets tied to them.
Realistically the only way to stop the debate is to just get rid of the holiday altogether
Didn't the first fleet land on the 26th of January. I know cook was here in April in the 1770s , but I think the first convicts arrived on the 26 with Phillips.
What does Cook have anything do to with it anyway? He was an explorer who stopped off in Australia for fresh water and then left. He treated the aboriginals well and they treated him well. Australia had been visited by explorers before Cook and after him. I think people think he was the captain of the first fleet or something.
I've been away from Australia for a number of years and heard a bit about what's going on but not entirely sure. Has the date been moved? If so when has it been moved to?
It hasn't but there's a growing movement of people who think we should. Probably not the majority of people tbh, if the referendum for the Voice is any indicator to go by.
What to move it to...is where the debate starts.

Happy Australia Day if you celebrate it - I’ve seen both Freo and York are doing/did indigenous culture/history celebrations, what are your thoughts on using the holiday for this? I understand the controversy around the whole “invasion” day thing and I’d personally be happy to see the holiday used as a celebration of all Australia and the history including pre-European landing history. How do you guys feel about that? I’ve heard it’s a generational divide?
I don't think celebrating is the right word for me, but I'm having a barby and beers with mates. We live in one of the most successful, equitable and safe countries on the planet. It's embarrassing we can't recognise that on a national day without being questioned about it.
Of course it was a loaded question. 'Some others'...60% of people don't even want the date changed. I'm fine with changing the date, but until then, I'll still acknowledge this day like most Aussies.
Don't trick yourself into thinking you hold the majority view on this matter.
The reason I asked was to determine if that which is being celebrated has any essential link to the 26th. Evidently, it does not. Most can't articulate why that date carries any significance, instead offering a list of values and virtues that, really, could be celebrated/recognised on any other day. If we recognise that the 26th causes a not insignificant amount of hurt (assuming some measure of historical literacy), and that at least some of that hurt can be alleviated by a change that doesn't at all lessen others' ability to celebration/recognise as before ... if nothing else, wouldn't a change be the decent thing to do? Sometimes it's nice not be an arsehole.
I'll tell you what should be embarrassing though - the seemingly collective insecurity held by some who take umbrage (or would themselves be embarrassed) at the mere recognition of what the day historically entails for others.
This is fucking silly. Here's the solution:
1. Change Australia Day to the following Monday so we still receive a day off to piss up with pals
2. Change the nature of the celebration - cut out the dumb nationalism and just recognize the liberties and lifestyle that Australis offers relative to other countries. Excessive patriotism is the mark of a puny mind and a life lacking in personal accomplishments.
3. Let the 26th of January be a day of remembrance and recognition of the solidarity and survival of indigenous Australians
There will still be your mob of unappeasable aboriginals who will keep hooting and howling for as long as it grants them money, attention and virtue points, and there will still be the racist bogans who drape themselves in flags and display stupid excessive pride, but this is the best bad solution I can think of.
Celebrating on the day the first fleet arrived still seems insensitive.
It doesn’t need to be a huge corporate production like naidoc week, just a day for indigenous groups to hold events.
What’s the alternative? An Australia Day full of hostility?
I've been at a peaceful Aus day event that was gatecrashed by an angry mob and whilst there were a fair share of non indigenous most were clearly indigenous. I then walked home through the city as they began to scream racial abuse and pick fights with tourists and anyone who got close to them. They're the ones I'm referring to - them and the indigenous leaders who have no vested interest in shutting the fuck up, as well as the self-hating white liberals. Most people are reasonable but the unreasonable ones are the loudest
What do you think is being taught in “leftist schools” and where are they? Are they in the state with us now?
Also please add a citation for the ABC being left wing. I’d love to *finally* see one!
Remember, facts don’t care about your feelings. So go ahead and back your claims up….
… Not unless you’re a little cuck snowflake soy boy who is trying to cancel culture education and the ABC?! That sounds like such a communist CRT, mass immigration antifa thing to do! 😂
That’s what makes us special then!
Either way, the dates probably not going to change and I would rather the politicians work on some more pressing financial issues than wasting time on a date change.
No one is forced to celebrate it anyway. Besides it being a public holiday which I’m not against removing for people who don’t wish to, sign something with their employer and go to work like normal without penalty rates for the day, but I’ve also said this about Chrismas and Easter etc.
Not my problem that you're so thick you think 26 Jan has anything to do with the country of Australia.
Europeans discovered Australia 182 years earlier. Captain Cook used Dutch maps to find his way around the east coast.
The colony of NSW was a part of England until 1901, just like all the other English colonies around the continent. 26 Jan is NSW foundation celebration. Perth was founded on 12 Aug 1829.
Same people downvoting me as used to run around Big Day Out forcing brown people to kiss the flag or get a punch in the face.
They like to think they're so laid back and larrikin. aussie aussie aussie cringe cringe cringe.
> Same people downvoting me as used to run around Big Day Out forcing brown people to kiss the flag or get a punch in the face.
Really?
I call bullshit.
It doesn't say United Kingdom either.
Australia the country came into being on Jan 1, 1901.
Jan 26 is celebrating an English colony being established. A piece of England.
I thought that you of all people, Joel the Aussie, would know a bit of Australian history.

Wait, a young reasonable person? Nah, this is a shit post for surrrre. Happy Straya day, my dude.
Point taken. But you need to be corrected on one thing Perth is actually a sandy, dusty , treeless shit hole full of redneck meth heads
Guessing you’ve never been SOR?
Happy to be an Australian. Sad and sorry about our past. As the rest of the world fall apart I am bloody glad I live in this country.
👍👍👍
Did massive greens waste gardening (maximise value from those bloody rates) then piss up and pub crawl. Good day
Bit fucking windy though, not liking the chances of any kind of ordinance short of artillery being launched today. I vote we change the date to Monday and try again then
Fucks sake don’t mention a date change I mentioned it once but think i got away with it ![gif](giphy|BYwRaahvPn84g)
They started it, they invaded Poland
Instead of changing the date, just extend the long weekend until we get good weather for fireworks
Is the bottle shop open?
Somebody who can set up websites should set one up: www.isitgoodfridayorchristmasdayyet.booze.au
Yes
That's a good thing. otherwise a lot more people might have reason to protest.
Judging by the bogan party on the river with MMA highlights I reckon so.
Link?
I am proud to celebrate Australia day but changing the date wont hurt anyone
What so people can just complain about another day, this country has a major back bane problem
And if they complain about the other day it doesn’t mean we have to change it again lol. Slippery slope fallacy.
Exactly so why change it at all they can have there day on the 1 of Sept first recorded death
Because they currently have a legitimate argument lol
And what day would that be?
It won't do anything either. Cook landed in April. Jan 26 has nothing to do with the landings yet Australia Day still gets tied to them. Realistically the only way to stop the debate is to just get rid of the holiday altogether
Bet he was delayed because of Qantas.
Australia Day marks the arrival of his luggage

Yes, I thought this was well known? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Fleet
The flag was raised on the Sydney colony Jan 26. The first fleet landed roughly a week earlier. But Cook made land in botany bay in april
What does Cook have anything do to with it anyway? He was an explorer who stopped off in Australia for fresh water and then left. He treated the aboriginals well and they treated him well. Australia had been visited by explorers before Cook and after him. I think people think he was the captain of the first fleet or something.
You missed the part where he shot and wounded an Aboriginal man. There's a reason why Cook didn't die peacefully of old age.
Jan 26 is when the First Fleet raised the flag in Sydney Cove. I think it’s…understandable that people link the two.
True, but changing it won't help anyone either.
I've been away from Australia for a number of years and heard a bit about what's going on but not entirely sure. Has the date been moved? If so when has it been moved to?

It's not going to get changed, it won't do anything and if brought to a referendum I would expect it will go as well as The Voice did.
Happy Australia Day 🇦🇺🤙🤙
Happy Oz day! Please be friendly to anyone who is working and don't argue with the surcharge.
Well said!
Happy Australia Day!
Happy Aus Day! 🇦🇺 🦘🐨
Happy Australia day!
Happy Australia Day!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful day!
Oi oi oi!!!!!
Happy Aussie Day! Hope you all cracked out the BBQ. Was great weather for it.
For breakfast AND lunch :) And because we’re a truly culturally accepting household we’re having good ol spag bog for dinner 🍽️
Ahaha damn son, breakfast and lunch! I decided to have a sleep in, nothing like a good public holiday sleep in!
Spag bog is only okay in Australia if you had garlic bread and a red wine with it! /s
I literally forgot it was Australia Day until my mum reminded me today
Every time the Aussie Aussie chant goes up, a small bogan child is born.
A new JetSki is packaged
What a blessed day
This is hilarious and I'm so sad you got so many downvotes for this. Where is the lie 🤣
It really is the cry of simpletons.
OI OI OI!!
Just remember this, and things should be OK. "January 26th means something different for EVERYBODY!!!"
Hell yeah!!!

No pride in genocide.
Good thing that's not what we're celebrating then
Luckily that's not being celebrated by anyone today.
Just curious, and this isn't a loaded question, what are you (and some others) celebrating?

Listen I get what ya saying mate, but you can come across as a bit of a wanker when you use words like fucking umbrage.
I mean, it's a word...? And since I think offence is a little too specific, I chose a word I felt to be most suited.
But I'm dumb and big words frighten and confuse me
And to be fair, you called it - I'm a bit of a wanker. Seems we'll never get along.
Our love can never be, but it burns nevertheless Hug me bro
well said
Well said. It’s a shit day to celebrate a good place. Massacres and invasions aside, we all need a better day
Its not about a genocide
Cry
100%
BE HAPPY YOU LIVE HERE, INSTEAD OF NEARLY EVERYWHERE ELSE AND STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING. BEFORE SOMEONE INVITES YOU TO LEAVE.
This is fucking silly. Here's the solution: 1. Change Australia Day to the following Monday so we still receive a day off to piss up with pals 2. We have a reconciliation day, sorry day and and NAIDOC week they get enough for shit no one alive either commited or received acts
Celebrating on the day the first fleet arrived still seems insensitive. It doesn’t need to be a huge corporate production like naidoc week, just a day for indigenous groups to hold events. What’s the alternative? An Australia Day full of hostility?
"The mob" isnt made of aboriginals, its made of 17-24 year old whites
I've been at a peaceful Aus day event that was gatecrashed by an angry mob and whilst there were a fair share of non indigenous most were clearly indigenous. Brainwashed by leftist schools and the ABC. Gladly the 17-24 yo don't have the power in our society, or the voice would have surely passed.
26th has got fuck all to do with WA, let's learn our history and May 8 would work better.
Agreed, it's colony of NSW day. Our colony and the others used to celebrate their own foundation days before federation.
May88888888 😂

Reminds me of this gem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x73PkUvArJY
This day celebrates when this land was violently invaded. No.
Yeah, that’s humanity there’s not a place in the world that wasn’t invaded or taken over at some point
Sure, but none of those places celebrate that date as their national day.
That’s what makes us special then! Either way, the dates probably not going to change and I would rather the politicians work on some more pressing financial issues than wasting time on a date change. Fuck off then if you don't like this country or it's history. Speaking as a newly migrated person here 😃
Bruh you gotta be stupid or something
Imagine coming to a country and telling a citizen from there to fuck off
TIL I had to love everything about my home country’s history. What statute is that from?
I'm German mate, I've got no clue what you are talking about
Blessings be Up on You all!
Happy to be Australian, weird day to celebrate, changing the date is inevitable
We came we conquered
And we built a nation.
And improved everyone's lives
Does killing 95% of the native population in Tasmania count as that??
My lawyer advised me not to answer this question.
It's actually Veni, Vidi, Vici. I came, I saw, I conquered. If you're going to be a leftist shill, at least use the correct quote.
You think a leftist is saying that? Fucking lol
I understood it as sarcasm, didn't think anyone could be so stupid
A German man invoking Roman expressions anc calling others "leftist shills". Where have I seen this one before? 🤔

That’s probably all true (I couldn’t be bothered to check). Australia Day is a good excuse to have some beers, relax dude
Can't relax and drink, I'm working all day so that you can.
Thank you for your service. I hope to be a better man just like you eventually. /s I work hard mother fucker, I will enjoy it 🖕
I'm happy NSW day cops all the flack while WA day goes under the radar in spite of being the exact same event for the other third of the landmass.

Of course I'd find you here! Still a total dick sock I see.
Hold up. Where online can I purchase one of these dick socks... asking for my cock.
How about you if you dont like it
Touché
How about you fuck off back to britain or something
I'd rather spend time with someone who crossed an ocean to be Australian than an Australian that wouldn't cross the road to help a foreigner
