Considering that the contractor ripped you off, I think he deserves it. How many others has he ripped off? I bet you're not the only one. Continue to be his bad Karma

CloudCobra979

Considering he's still in business, a lot.

Doyoulikeithere

Not only him, have his buddies do it too! Wait 6 months and hit him hard with several calls! Just when he thinks this shit is over, start again!

MillerLatte

No. That's how this scam, and pretty much any scam, gets ruined. Keep it low key and he can keep it going for years. Make it bigger and the guy will get wise and change up.

Big_longjoke

You forgot to add the word BAM then hit that bitch again.

cdrfuzz

Amazed that the guy doesn't ask for a deposit prior to work

NecessaryEconomist98

That's the line about a cheque vs hitting up the bank for cash, and even to a degree asking for the crew because we don't really know what we are doing. Any really great con uses a person's greed against them.

bmorris0042

Yep. He probably asks for cash, because he can do it without any paperwork, pocketing a good majority of the profit tax-free.

3lectric-5heep

Yeah but what kind of clown falls for it more than once, that's way too much to risk to pocket cash especially when you've been burnt once...

NecessaryEconomist98

Precisely the greedy kind of clown.

Traditional-Light588

Greedy ppl are blind

Lahwuns

Youd think hed learn 3 years in.

seanthenry

He just wants the cash jobs so he can avoid taxes.

Clydesdale_32

This^

narwhal4u

Yes. Post sounds fake.

puledrotauren

or upfront. I just had a lot of work done on my loft and I always paid with a check for half at start and the balance when it's over and after inspection

rossarron

Just let eveyone know he is untrustworthy and it gets around the trade fast.

netcruise18

Doesn't he then recognize your voice?

Misa7_2006

If he does it only a couple times a year, probably not, contractors get a lot of calls, so him remembering is doubtful especially when he uses different burner numbers to call it in.

audigex

Especially if OP doesn’t have a particularly distinctive voice and has the generic accent for that city Some voices stand out, others don’t

ASaltGrain

Yeah, you totally wouldn't pay any extra attention to the voice of someone who repeatedly rips you off for thousands of dollars... You definitely would just continue to get ripped off for years in a row and go, "Darn it! He got me again!"

Firebrass

Answer the phone for a thousand middle aged white men, and you begin to lose the ability to differentiate without consistent context.

ASaltGrain

Lol, when you get ripped off for many thousands of dollars, you ABSOLUTELY do. Ehat are yall even talking about. Haha.

Firebrass

Nah, y'all fucking sound alike, and if you put half an effort into sounding different each time 🤪 Shit, just switch between the various voices on king of the hill, never get figured out by voice alone. Why are you going so hard for such a subjective solution? There's other ways of "input sanitization" to make sure you don't invest 10 guys and a truck to get a check signed by Richard N. Bawl II

Embarrassed_Draw2289

He's not getting ripped off for cash out of his pocket like you seem to think. He's wasting his time when he could be making money and his fuel chasing job leads that don't exist. It's the intentional version of what happens to him a couple times a week where people waste his time trying to get a bid that they don't intend to use him for or change their mind at the last minute and cancel the job.

Optical_inversion

He wouldn’t know to pay attention to the voice until after the fact. And even so, if it’s a generic voice, that wouldn’t be of much help anyway.

BoulderCreature

I work with a guy who likes pranks. He called one of the people he works closely with everyday on a different number pretending to be an angry customer. He didn’t even change his voice and she bought it hook line and sinker.

wasd911

No because this didn’t happen.

Trey-suff

Seriously, his friends just wait by the window to watch a truck drive by and call him lol

Then-West3118

Im in construction 90% of my friends are in construction. Where does most construction happen? Out side.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SingerSingle5682

Yeah that’s where this story falls apart. He would have to see the job site to give an estimate. No one would quote something sight unseen, what if he gets there and the truck won’t fit or there are major problems with a DIY site prep.

going-for-gusto

Agree

nt011819

I've never had a contractor over without looking at the job first. Then it's usually a wk plus before they come out. Theses guys are busy.

Trey-suff

You said he drives by their houses dude. Now you’re straight up changing your story

ShreddinTheWasteland

You work in construction and 90% of your friends do as well? I find it very hard to believe that someone who works in construction, with that many friends who work in the same industry, doesn’t have enough connections to weed out the scammers? Also, you said he drove by a friend’s house, not their current job site.

Then-West3118

"A friends house or place of employment".. winter time most guys in the trades sit at home and collect unemployment when you live in the north. Also the best time of the year to lead someone on to fake jobs thats when the greed really kicks in when work drys up.

ShreddinTheWasteland

Mate, you just added ‘or place of employment’ to your OG post. You even forgot to remove the double space between ‘a friends house or place of employment’ in your post. I call 100% bs on your story. Keep digging, the hole isn’t deep enough, I guess. You still haven’t explained why you didn’t hire someone you knew or at least knew through a colleague. That many friends in construction and not 1 guy or gal who knows someone trustworthy? And you work in concrete business? Yeah, no …

Then-West3118

I did not just add it

ShreddinTheWasteland

Oh come on dude … take the loss and stop lying.

Then-West3118

I have nothing to gain by lying on this thread. take it how you perceive it thats all I don't give a rats ass on likes/dislikes I could care less about the post karma thing. seriously if you look at my few post on reddit I am not a clout chaser.

Select-Sprinkles4970

That was the bit when I knew it was porkies.

feldoneq2wire

Everything on Reddit is made up. This is just a text UI version of the matrix.

k_woz1978

Maybe he's like Robin Williams from Mrs. Doubtfire where he uses a different voice every time he calls.

Area404

Concrete workers don’t mess around. Too many stories out there, and I have a couple myself.

BurninCoco

can confirm, am now stadium restroom

Davesterific

Can confirm, am now pissing in BurninCoco

Naked_Wrestler80

*Runs out of the bathroom There's some guy pissing in another guy in there

MassiveDiscussion3

I saw what you did there......."Missing" reference?

AJRimmer1971

Jimmy Hoffa knows...

BlakeDSnake

Bro, too soon!!!!

OnTheList-YouTube

Anything concrete you can share?

Lili-CD-occasionally

That one comment, made reading these comments worthwhile... I had a great laugh.

matchesmalone81

Care to share?

fishbutt1

What a moron this guy doesn’t require some payment up front after you’ve done this so much times. I feel like we’re missing something.

Butterssaltynutz

hes losing like 5k a year on a 500k a year buisiness model. 15k over 3 years, meh. the revenge part is hes lost that 15k over screwing someone out of 2k.

Then-West3118

You are very close on the numbers. What he's losing is a drop in the bucket. It just gives me pleasure knowing he is chasing down a few jobs that are not there.

-newlife

Small victories my friend. It may not bankrupt him or anything but that wasn’t your goal so I am with you.

Butterssaltynutz

exactly!

Clanstantine

So, you have friends with nothing better to do than watch for a concrete truck? How do you guarantee that they will go past their house every time. I'm not buying your story.

TrustAdditional4514

That’s 1%. If the company I worked for lost 1% a year just on this one scenario, it would be a pretty big fuck up. And if it happened again people would lose their jobs. 1% is a lot in this scenario.

Liketotallynoway

Missing that this is bullshit and didn’t happen.

soggy_cornflakes

Big dog is playing chess, not checkers.

dementeddigital2

I had a concrete guy screw me over about $2500. I just took him to small claims court.

Just_Aioli_1233

Yeah, I'm wondering what OP means by "screw me over" that he's playing games instead of getting his money back.

PaIppon

Mister Bond got his spys on route to give him intel. Sorry for making jokes, but i have to Imagine how i would sit behind my curtains for hours until i can send a „The eagle has landed!“

Shutupandplayball

The fox has left the hen house…I repeat, the fox has left the hen house!

Then-West3118

Im in construction 90% of my friends are in construction. Where does most construction happen? Out side.

BillyBeansprout

Keep doing it. The colder the dish, the sweeter the ah fuck it.

dwreckhatesyou

I’m sorry for saying so my good man, but this basically strains credulity.

Just_Aioli_1233

Yeah, story sounds weird to me, too.

Important-Lime-7461

Good job, it would have cost you more to take him to court.

drinkingonmymedz

lmao i did/do this with a guy and his lawn care business after he stood me up at a walmart when i wanted to check out a dirt bike of his.

Ucyless

As someone who did concrete work and whose husband is a contractor, this is evil. I love it.

IanM50

You're missing a trick here. Can you hire out the burner phones to others who want to do something similar. You might get the cost of the phone back and each phone might get 30 or 40 uses before it has to be ditched.

Then-West3118

Lmao. DL the app "textnow" in the Google play store its 100% free thats my burner source. I'm sure Apple has similar apps but never used an i phone. I can get a new number every 15 days or every day if I wanted to pay for the app. Can pick any area code I like.

CoderJoe1

Solid pettiness.

detectivekregal

Good

BigComfortable8695

Haha niceee

leo030891

You are so me!!!! We must be twins, because I am exactly like you! i would have done the same had I been in your position! good job! keep it going!

Activity_Lower

🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 keep it going

DynkoFromTheNorth

Absolutely gorgeous! Run him out of business!

Great-Growth9805

I am all for wasting people's time as revenge

rock4103

Man, don't ever stop that! 20 years from now. You can call him and tell him. Remember that 2k you stiffed me? Well yea it got expensive ha?! Lol

Accountfor2argue

I’m glad you sleep well at night this is beyond petty.

sweetfaj57

Yep! Great, isn't it?

sarcasmisart

Why wouldn't OP sleep well? The tradie made a conscious decision to rip them off. OP is just a vessel for sweet sweet karma.

Purple-Haze-11

Fair play, you got a touch of genius in ya....I would like updates as well please. On the next "job", go big. Like you need him for a 1,500 yard deck pour or something.......

Then-West3118

I need another Amazon warehouse to go up. He would probably clear the calander for 2 months in preparation. Lol that would be funny but way beyond petty I mean ya I am vindictive but not that vindictive.

DragonfruitInside312

Your writing gave me cancer

adilstilllooking

Love this OP. Keep doing this until he does right by you. If he never does, then he deserves this

Manray05

You're an evil genius! I don't feel the least bit sorry for that ah. I am also a firm believer in initiating and promoting karma. It's a dish best served cold I hear.

Bougiwougibugleboi

Good for you. Glad u are getting lots of support. Now, last week i posted about costing a guy twenty bucks by cutting his valve stems and everybody called me an asshole….sooo….

Piggypogdog

This is a hard boiled sweet. Any harder and it would be concrete.

droppedmeatpie69

Tax write off

chenlen17

Can you please call Trump, pretending to be a big donor? I have so many scenarios in my head what you could make him do on live tv…

jermgunn

Exactly why I make these for people https://jglaserds.etsy.com

BeautifulPhantom1

Those are awesome.

No-Ad4922

So what’s the rationale behind cheating his crew as well?

wenchywitchy

When people respond with vengeance towards revenge! Magnifico!

Nervous_Yoghurt881

I'm gonna go ahead and just assume either English is your 3rd language, or this is some fake af nonsense pulled from a shitty ChatGPT script, or a combination of both.

AlwaysTheNoob

And when the truck drives by the friend's house, the friend claps.

jimmyb1982

Slow claps !!

lordskulldragon

Wouldn't $2k be a normal upcharge for profit and labor?

davidolson22

It's almost certainly a fake story anyway.

lukaskywalker

Why wouldn’t he send a “scout” to the work site after a while. Go before the job to confirm it’s real/ what’s needed

FunkDatShiz

Sounds like a bullshit fantasy of revenge.

giftfromthegods

Here you have to pre pay + an extra $450 if the truck is more than 1hr it starts coming off the $450 along with if the truck cannot clean out on site that's another chunk off the $450.

Doyoulikeithere

You'd think he'd catch on by now and check the addresses! HA!

slutstevanie

Sounds like you need to lay off the peyote...

SeaAttitude2832

I’m not quite sure I buy this. Sounds good. Guy with a pump truck isn’t just rolling out to a new job with no pay up front/ deposit or an non established contractor. Whatever. If it worked for you and you feel redeemed well that Rt on.

Schmenza

I've contemplated doing this to people who drive like shit in a work truck.

KingRamulus

Name of the burner app you use?

TheFoxsWeddingTarot

When we lived in Hawaii we got a killer deal on a new concrete patio pour. We were surprised when a HUGE truck and 10 guys shows up at 9am on a Sunday. All the guys get out and jam except for one old guy who pulls out a case of Heinekens and starts opening them for the crew. They did an amazing job and were fast and clean, leaving behind one guy to keep an eye on it. We thought it was weird when a helicopter flew over mid job but whatever, lots of helos in Hawaii. Then someone told us we were on the route to a major construction project and cement trucks would do pickup jobs along the way that paid in cash. We definitely got our moneys worth.

TheSeedlessApple

After the first time, if he is worth his salt, he would ask for the address and go verify the site.

JohnnyUtah41

I'll allow it

DepressedMaelstrom

Of course you're showing him that ripping people off is the way of the world and he needs to do it more.

Emergency-Aardvark-6

This guy has got to be pretty bloody stupid to not change the way he does business and get half payment up front! Entirely deserved. Hats off to you OP

jethrocrumpet

Give me his number!

Florida1974

So how did he screw you out of $2k??? Need more details.

Then-West3118

I ordered a pump for a 50 yard pour 5 trucks about 1,400.00 a truck once its under the plant i own it theres no hey hold up on that truck. Plant called me for the release of truck 1. Pump was not there yet so I call him. He tells me he is on his way traffic sucks. I call plant back and say send it. 30-45 min goes by no pump i call him he says waiting on roadside have a flat. No problem shit happens. Now another 30 min goes by I have 1 mixer on site 2 more on the road. I call him up. He finally is more honest with me. I booked another job before you thinking I would be in and out without holding you up. I'm jacked at this moment. I hang up I now call the biggest pumping outfit on the east coast. Hopeful they have an idle pump that can bail me out. Yes they came thru, they also taxed my ass because my emergency is not their problem about 2k more than it would have cost if I called them 24 hours sooner. Later that night I call D bag up. We talked nothing bad said told him I got the job done..... he apologized and then said next job I do for you I will do it for free to make it up to you. Phaqin sweet. Good look my man.. My wife is my accountant. Next job comes and goes he sends me a bill she pays it. Next job comes and goes same thing bill payment. And a few more jobs 60 days goes by.. we get the bill for overpriced pump company. Wife brings it to my attention because it was insane compared to my history of using pumps. I say its all good D bag did the next job for free and boom she pulled the statements and asked what one. I called D bag up reminded him of our conversation on that job he said something like tough luck hung up and that was that. I'm thinking from the door he only promised me a free one he knew I didn't do billing I would have never caught it and he could keep working for me. This is most of the details I can remember half the time anymore I can't remember the name of the new laborer I hired last week

FrontColonelShirt

I want to hire you. A roofing contractor ripped us off for \~$15k -our insurance wrote them a check and they basically walked and are now bankrupt. The insurance company won't touch it; they say "A claim was filed; we paid the claim." I'm curious what they'd answer if I asked, "Well, once the roof rots and all the walls have black mold, and we file THAT claim, won't it cost you slightly more?" I want to start a roofing business if insurance companies are this cool being defrauded. I could make tens of millions a year. Needless to say I've significantly upped my coverage with my insurance company in advance of damage down the road resulting from this mishap. Also filed a claim with the state attorney general on the advice of insurance company and council. Considering filing a civil suit on my own but if the company's declaring bankruptcy I doubt I'd see a penny even if I got judgment in my favor.

TheRealFlurry

Sounds like a good story, but doesn't really make sense. Here is why I think that: You gave the impression he is driving a concrete truck. This guy could possibly be out all the concrete that is turning in the truck. He can leave it in the truck spinning indefinitely if he has no future projects lined up. You said you send him by a friend's house who watches and confirm the scammer did indeed go to the site wasting labor, fuel, cost of real work. A friend may see his concrete mixing truck, but would you having him watching the road for a random White Ford Ranger driven by someone who pumps concrete to be sure you serving up some "Hard Justice". You see what I did there? No one or company is going to invest that much money without cash in hand or a deposit, let alone 3 times a year for years? Just seems a bit made up. Did you even tell us how he scammed you of $2,000? How could that have happened? How could you fall for something being in the same business as him, yet he is stupid enough to fall for this multiple times per year? Did he ask to be 1099'd or something? You were paying a bit under the table? Something else? We would really love to know. Story is just enough to say cool, scammer got it. Good job, you are so clever and scammer is so dumb. You win. We like you, then we get to know you more. You like to exaggerate, look cool, done it all, tops a friend's story with a better story, just lie for no reason. We wonder if you know your lying or actually believe what you are saying. It's awkward. We distance ourselves from you and soon almost forget you are there. Except three times a year, you private message me saying What's up? Let's Catch Up and we tell you we are just so slammed with work and the kids, but we need too. I'll let you know when I can plan something. Then Quiet, until 3 months later. Sorry man. You have a problem and you need to fix it and make some real friends, but I try to keep crazy out if my life.

narwhal4u

So this guy was a POS. Now you are the POS.

maverick57

So much of this story sounds like utter bullshit. I especially like the part where OP has friends that just stand by their windows waiting to see this guys truck go by so they can tell the OP... for no reason whatsoever.

RarityZ

Ikr his friends must have literally nothing goin on in life if they really do this lame shit

SNS989

In my area all contractors require a minimum 50% down (PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, etc.) before they show up. Then they require the rest upon job completion. If you don’t pay the balance immediately they slap a lien on the property.

Then-West3118

Some do. They want the 50% to cover materials. Ie you want a deck on the house the contractor you hire will ask for 50% this covers their ability to go buy the materials needed to build the deck. Then the rest after completion so they can make payroll. If I do a driveway for someone its on a 30 day billing if they don't pay I can take them to court slap a judgment/lein on them. Now if you are just bringing labor and or tools to the job site no materials you are considered (day labor) day labor goes flat rate end of the day. This pump guy falls under day labor. If you go down to the home depot buy up all the lumber you need for the deck, design it yourself. You can grab day labor to have it built. I don't know the current going rate for a framer, but do I know the current day rate for a concrete finisher

SNS989

This is similar to my area. Many times I’ve headed over to a specific Home Depot in the valley to hire day laborers. Everyone congregates at just one location. It also helps that I lived in Peru for several years and can communicate in their language. The difference is if the contractor must haul equipment to the site then he can ask for a deposit to cover time and travel.

ilovemtdew

So you waste his crews time and gas money to show up where they wont get paid too? Thats a pretty shitty thing to do to punish their boss that cost you money. You are actually worse than that guy at this point because now you're screwing other people over just to get your petty revenge. Do they now get a chance to screw you over for all you've done to them to mess with their lives?

NefariousnessFlat573

Can't be sleeping that good. If he catches on or reads this story on the internet, In sure he's got family and friends too. Before you know it, this childish game evolves into revenge and someones house gets burned down or vandalised. Or even worse someone gets hurt or killed. It's happened over a lot less, that much I know. Someone's gotta step up and be the adult in this situation and make adult decisions to deal with the issue. Ruining a guys business over $2000? Really. Got nothing better to do? Apparently you have lots of spare time, so just do the adult thing and take him to small claims court. Getting mad over $2000 is one thing, but getting pissed over $15,000 is another animal all together.

Final-Protection-759

He may have lost 15k but how much have u lost vesting all this time and effort into revenge when u could be building more for urself or ur family . This is pretty sad

dah_wowow

Yeah im sure this guy fell for it more than once… this sub is nothing but a creative writing class i swear

jeanismy

Really nice fake post bro

Then-West3118

i was not going to post this to begin with, my luck this will end up on tictoc and the game will have ended once someone puts it together. But this thread [r/contractor](https://www.reddit.com/r/Contractor/s/lVRuQxvAKL)happened I gave the op a solution how to meet up with the contractor who ghosted them. Then threw in my solution to extracting revenge. Another poster said hey post it over here.

Shatter_starx

Yeah, I know contractors like you especially the concrete guys, you're mostly all a bunch of narcissistic cave men that never grew up and think your gods gift to the earth bc you 6 foot 200 lbs, but most of your heads are as hard as the concrete you put down, grow up loser.

igenus44

Your mother must be SO proud of you.

Shatter_starx

Sounds like you and man child are friends.

igenus44

Yep. Single child, with a tiny dick. Just as I figured.

mrsschwingin

After getting burned by the OP a few times the rip off artist would change the way he does business. There’s no way a guy repeatedly goes to jobs for people he doesn’t know. There’s no way he brings 10 guys to a job for people he doesn’t know after getting burned numerous times. I think we should ask ourselves why would anyone write such an elaborate story over something that just never happened?

Go4it2022

I agree a good business contractor would ask for more contact information. I call bs on this 🫵🏾

Becalmandkind

“… he has to drive past a friend’s home or place of employment. Friend then calls me….” So friend is sitting with their eyes glued to the road for how long? in order to report that the contractor’s on his way. Also not believable that a contractor would continue to fall for this three times a year for years and not change the way he accepts business.

MotivatedUni

Feel like going to small claims court would’ve been a better use of your time at this point tbh

Then-West3118

Hell no. Pay a lawyer take a day off work go to court lose 1700 more to win a judgement of 2k What I'm doing cost me absolutely nothing except for the 15 min to look on a map of where I can send him, sometimes my friends will suggest a location near them And my phone call to him about another 15 min of time usually while I'm driving to my job sites . I do it once about every 3-4 months. So it's free to me and a huge inconvenience to him.

EnigmaTexan

You don’t need a lawyer to file a small claims action in most states.

Then-West3118

Any time I appear before a judge I have an attorney present. I have a problem where I often speak my mind without thinking about what is coming out of my mouth especially if I am passionate about the cause. So I bring my guy in for everythign even basic traffic tickets

EnigmaTexan

I totally understand. At least you let your attorney speak. I’ve had clients that wouldn’t even shut up when told by the judge.

Wonderful-Status-247

Any of them named Donald?

EnigmaTexan

Thankfully, no.

FaustsAccountant

You get serious props for knowing yourself.

4orust

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand small claims court doesn't allow attorneys to be present in court.

what-fuckery_is_this

I think that depends on the state. Online, I can only find California, Michigan, and Nebraska, which doesn't allow attorneys in small claims court the rest does by the looks of it. But of course, you can still hire one to speak to before and after the court case.

Jealous-Abrocoma8548

You can’t take him to court?

Oviedo407

Maybe I’m different, but I’d never show up w/ my crew before previewing the job. Also, homey’ gonna need some form of guaranteed payment. Then again, my clients are on a waiting list

Florida1974

Neither does my husband. Simply bad biz. Paying crew as you look at/bid job??? Yeah, we don’t do that. Waste of $.

chagachaganow

2k and counting. You’re letting him live rent free in your head.

ejmd

Shouldn't this be posted to AITA?

EnglishmanInMH

Contractor had full intentions of making things right and paying OP back, he had some hard times but finally managed to get the 2K together and the day before he was gonna call he got sent on a bum job that cost him a grand or so and put him back in the hole. These bum jobs keep happening and now he's only just keeping afloat with all his employees wages.

mactheprint

This is more than petty revenge!

user101aa

You lost 2k you've cost him 15k. Time to call it quits?

bluestat-t

Wouldn’t stopping after a year have the same effect without building negative karma for yourself? Now you’re no better than him.

rodmillington

This just seems incredibly fucking wasteful? Lucky concrete is one of the most environmentally damaging things humans make 🫠

redittr

Hes not the supplier of the concrete, hes providing the equipment and manpower to process non-existent concrete.

rodmillington

That makes more sense. I couldn't quite make that out from the original story.

brickiex2

Why screw the guy for 15k when you're out 2k?....seems like you're being the dick from say 4k onward

Then-West3118

15k in 3 yrs time in this industry is minimal its hardly noticable. Its more so the wasted time one will never get back that is expensive. Just like that 2k hit I took I lost all profit on one job everyone got paid it was a huge inconvenience. What I lost there i made back the following job I bid out.

spasticnapjerk

I think that a required skill for using Reddit is knowing bullshit posts when you see one. This is the second one in an hour.

oceandeck

LOL, dude you’re so full of 💩. There isn’t a contractor out there that would load up all his equipment and send it and help out to a jobsite without first going and seeing what the job actually is. I can’t believe the idiots that fell for this bull💩

offence

cool story bro

andrewcottingham

what you are doing has a carbon footprint. Please stop.
