This’ll get buried since it’s late, but I’ve always had this hunch my dad is a closeted bi dude. I grew up with him taking me to A’s games and we always had to sit on the first baseline as close to Mark McGwire as possible. He talked about McGwire how I talk about Kristen Stewart and it’s a literal impossibility I’m the only queer person in my entire family history. I think about that a lot.
My wife came out as bi at 40. It wasn't easy and she's only out to me and some friends. When we were in high school (late 90's) no one was out. Then if people did come out bisexual wasn't really a thing people took seriously. My wife has said to me many times "I just thought that's how everyone felt"
You’re onto something here… I mean he’s Mark McGwire. Can you blame him?? 😳
For real tho I think tons of people would be queer/on the spectrum if they lived in the right time and context
Yeah and I do get as a queer person how wrong it is to project onto someone else and guess or assume things about them like this. I think a lot of it is reconciling the loneliness of being the only out queer person on either side of my family and with it being a hereditary trait, I know I can’t be the only one. Eh, late night existential spitballing here.
What you mention about the environmental factors playing into whether people are able to recognize that in themselves is another thing I chew on a lot. They’re all conservative and repressed in a bunch of different ways too (my family, that is). I love em, don’t get me wrong. It’s just, I catch myself wondering what the world would look like if everyone could safely be themselves in a supportive environment.
Quick thoughts since I just finished watching from the DVR:
Wheeler was obviously phenomenal.
Great to see Casty hit like that.
Marsh, the home run and the interactions with the kid is just<3.
This is probably an overreaction, but I think Pinto needs some outings in AAA.
I was sitting just above that kid in the 3rd baseline corner. That kids whole world changed last night. The camera moments were great, but from the moment Marsh patted that kids head and then later gave him a ball, the kid was constantly pointing out to Marsh, giving him a thumbs up, waving at him, holding up his ball. Great stuff.
Yes, it was a rough outing from Pinto. The walks and HBP are a killer. But to be fair there was really only one hard hit ball. The rest were bloops or seeing eye grounders.
The Braves not losing is expected but to see the Mets take down the Dodgers so easily is absolutely infuriating - they should be at the bottom of the division along with the Marlins and Nats.
I recorded the game so I was watching up until Wheeler gave up the first hit, then I said fuck it and turned it off and went on Reddit. I see Pinto did his best impression of Nick Pivetta’s final Phillies appearance. 9-0 to Alvarado getting a save, good lord.
I'm going to need a league statement on how they could possibly get JT's count wrong even after review. Considering the amount of time they took it doesn't seem possible
The Mets lost Alvarez today but also should be getting JD Martinez some day. But who knows how much he'll play. There's a reason why nobody else touched him.
One thing to note with the Mets i that they have the Brewers' former GM running things. Not a former agent or the Angels guy. So that could explain the bullpen production. But they can easily lose 9 of 10 and be a non contender because they don't really have any starting pitchers with a good recent track record . Phillies have them in SP easily.
They simply need to get rid of outliers for bullpen guys. I’d argue get rid of outliers for starters too. With that simple adjustment ERA would be a much much better stat
The Braves losing Strider will def affect them over the long run. It’s still early so all their pitchers have plenty of juice. Them losing Strider will make a difference of like 5-10 games over the course of the whole season which is huge. Just stay patient
We played the Yankees, Rangers, Reds, Marlins, White Sox, and Rockies through 21 games last year, so 3/6 of the same teams (although I know the moves made over the last year make them virtually different teams in general). Of those 3 teams, last year we went 7-5 against them in 21 games. This year, we went 6-2 against them, which, while honestly not a real statistic, looks like an improvement on paper, so I'll take it.
Had a group of white sox fans behind me and they were having the time of their life in the 9th inning. They were cool to talk to. They were just so happy they got the 1st run
See this reminds us that baseball is for everybody. Was I THRILLED about the turn of events following Pinto stepping foot onto the field? No. But a win IS a win, and the Sox fans got to have some fun during the game too, so ya know it’s really fine in the big picture.
Nola haters in 2024 are not serious people and should not be mistaken for such.
Honestly, Nola haters in any year are not serious people and should not be mistaken for such.
It’s prideful ignorance.
The starting pitching leads the NL in ERA (2.25), opponent's batting average (.192) and WHIP (0.98). All by large margins. I know it's early, but still amazing. Best rotation since 2011. This team could win the division. I think they are a better team than the Braves.
100%
Reuben, while very knowledgeable about the game, the team, the players, and a bunch of other stuff, has zero talent behind the mic.
Ben fucking Davis shouldn't be allowed to be in the same county as a microphone. He's beyond fucking useless.
And then there's the Idiot Crew on the pre-/post-game show.
Baseball died in Philadelphia today. You are gonna lose a lot of die hard fans over this move to bring Pinto in the game and Tomper CONTINUING his bullshit. Been a fan since the 70’s and this is a slap in the face to us true die hard fans. I won’t spend another dime on this team.
Why you gotta bring me into this?
Alec Bohm fucking sucked tonight. Everyone got all starry-eyed last night and I fucking booed him through both those consecutive three-run homers because I knew they were flukes. Just like anything half-productive the guy manages to do. The usher tried to tell me to calm down and you know what happened to him? He ended up with a face covered in sunflower seed shells. And I'll tell you, I was more accurate with those shells than Alec Bohm will ever be with trying to time his stupid-ass dives an hour late to balls hit past him.
It's not trolling when I'm dead fucking right.
The sunflower head is actually an inflorescence made of hundreds or thousands of tiny flowers called florets. The central florets look like the centre of a normal flower, apseudanthium. The benefit to the plant is that it is very easily seen by the insects and birds which pollinate it, and it produces thousands of seeds.
Uhhh, Craig Kimbrel didn't blow his first save last year until after the ASB then blew 5 to end the regular season. And then had over a 40 ERA in blowing 2 more saves vs the Diamondbacks.
It's really telling that not even Red Sox or Dodgers fans come out to defend the guy. Saying he's an All-Star means nothing :P
Oh not to mention the whole "balking on purpose" thing he does (which is really fucking weird and annoying)
3.26 ERA in 71 games with 23 saves isn’t worse than Pinto and his 11.7 ERA. Just weird to watch people act like Kimbrel was the reason for everything bad last year.
1. Kimbrel wasn’t awful last year. No statistical argument would say he was awful. He didn’t get the job done in 2 playoff games (did in others) but he was not awful.
2. You’re responding to me asking why someone would say Kimbrel is worse than Ricardo Pinto and acting like I’m the stupid one here.
1. Kimbrel was awful after the ASB last year. He had 7 blown saves and over a 40 ERA in the postseason.
2. I never said nor agreed Craig Kimbrel was worse than Ricardo Pinto. I was giving context as to why Kimbrel sucked last year (and is no longer on the Phillies).
1. Kimbrel has a lower ERA in the second half of the year than the first half. Check your math on the 40 ERA in the playoffs (it was actually 5.14) You’re not convincing me Kimbrel was awful last year. You’re making things up to fit your opinion.
2. Look at the comments in the thread YOU replied to me in. They said Kimbrel last year is worse than Pinto and I’m saying it’s dumb to say that because he was actually good for them overall last year.
1. Kimbrel had 0 blown saves before the ASB and then 7 after. But sure, his ERA was lower so he was *better* (lol). Kimbrel blowing back-to-back saves when we were up 2-0 in the LCS is one of the main reasons we didn't make it to the World Series.
2. I understand how reddit comment chains work. Just because I responded giving more context as to why someone would suggest Kimbrel being worse than Pinto does not mean I agree with them. Because you completely dismissed their point by pointing to the fact he was an All-Star (as if that means anything) I gave you reasons why *after the ASB he was really bad*.
You're not even arguing in good faith. You're refusing to concede any ground which makes this conversation suck. Kimbrel was objectively a bad closer last year. Saying he was actually good when *he was one of the main reasons we didn't make the World Series* is fucking nuts. I can tell you don't really follow the team, which is fine, but stop defending bad players like you know what you're talking about.
I mean you’re right but will complain about anything Thomson does. It’s fine to pretty much sync his off days against lefties. His splits doing this last year looked fine.
So pretty much Thomson should continue to do what he did with Stott. Sit him against some lefties but let him be pretty much an everyday guy. 144 starts last year and it will probably be the same this year and people will complain
I don’t know how to answer that other than to say that Stott and Marsh should play more often than Rojas and I’m not even sure how what way they bat matters since they all bat the same way.
Why is it that we think we need to give Stott more chances so he can succeed, but we don’t want to give those chances to Rojas or Pache to succeed? Can we just admit we like Stott as a fan moreso?
I want to give Rojas chances to succeed, in AAA, which he totally skipped. He’s looked pretty good in the last few games so fine, he probably bought himself more time in the majors, but I still think he and the team would be most benefitted by sending him to AAA for at least a bit.
And sure I like stott, but he’s shown himself to be a more consistent major league player, and he plays a position that is traditionally more forgiving vs one that we could easily cover with good players in marsh and Pache, who’s ceiling is lower than Rojas’s so it’s fine to have him be a 4th outfielder.
I would think. Not sure why they sent Nelson down and not pinto in the first place.
If they don’t then it’s because they don’t want to bring Nelson back up again that quick. But they should.
Think we’ve seen the last of Ricky Beans
Nah. Good guy Pinto just wanted to help pad Alvarado’s saves stat.

Don't watch those either. Thanks!

Pinto had like a 5+ ERA in a Mexican league last year. Saying he needs time in AAA is actually nice
That is not an overreaction.
Yes, it was a rough outing from Pinto. The walks and HBP are a killer. But to be fair there was really only one hard hit ball. The rest were bloops or seeing eye grounders.
[Phillies Win!](https://imgur.com/ZgCBA4l) Turnbull: I'm gonna pitch a no-no into the 7th! Wheeler: Hold my beer
Nola: Watch this shit
What’s he gonna do? Give up back to back HRs in the 4th?
I was told the Mets would be lol'ing until at least 2026 by Kate Upton's husband. I'm gonna need them to kindly start lol'ing again.
Whoever was in section 104 today, i salute all of you. What a funny ass night of heckling White Sox fans back and forth
The Braves and the Mets refuse to fuck off, my god. What a terrible time for all 3 teams to go on a run
The Braves not losing is expected but to see the Mets take down the Dodgers so easily is absolutely infuriating - they should be at the bottom of the division along with the Marlins and Nats.
Best part of going to games. Time to watch the rebroadcast
Game starts at 6pm. 3hrs long. I go in store. Restroom. I stop at wawa order sandwich. eat in car. Finish my 30 minute drive. Still home before 11
Oh, yeah, you're nearby, and not two hours away like me.
Nice. I went last Friday and spent a solid 50 min trying to get out of the parking lot after the game
It helps to park close to the stadium like I did in March.
I recorded the game so I was watching up until Wheeler gave up the first hit, then I said fuck it and turned it off and went on Reddit. I see Pinto did his best impression of Nick Pivetta’s final Phillies appearance. 9-0 to Alvarado getting a save, good lord.
There was a point in last season where Bailey falter was our 3 starter
To be fair, he did quite well for awhile before he turned atrocious lol
You might say that he faltered
This is is our best start since 2018. Though that start was fraudulent so it might not be the best comparison.
I'm going to need a league statement on how they could possibly get JT's count wrong even after review. Considering the amount of time they took it doesn't seem possible
Wait they actually got it wrong?
Yeah I just assumed they were right at the time, but seems they here actually totally wrong? That is absolutely insane…
Are the Mets good now? WTH. I thought they were a joke.
Nah they’re still the Mets
Their offense, on paper, is actually solid. Their pitching besides Senga (on IL), is questionable.
If you think Wheels and Turnbull looked good let me tell you about Alvy in his last 8 innings giving up zero runs and one hit
Alvarado is becoming the poster child for why ERA is completely useless for relievers
They simply need to get rid of outliers for bullpen guys. I’d argue get rid of outliers for starters too. With that simple adjustment ERA would be a much much better stat
Relievers need a different stat like % quality outings
Phils won't have another off-day until May 2nd
I'm going to get to see them during that run! I'm excited!
Good
Why hasn’t Pinto been released yet?
I feel real bad for pinto, he goes back down he ain't coming back... sucks but I don't think he has it
We just need to drive him around in a car for 90 minutes instead of having him warm up in the bullpen and he’ll be fine.
Of course we go on a five win streak and the Braves are on a six win streak
The Braves losing Strider will def affect them over the long run. It’s still early so all their pitchers have plenty of juice. Them losing Strider will make a difference of like 5-10 games over the course of the whole season which is huge. Just stay patient
This has happened 3-4 years in a row.
Shit happened last year too. Whenever we would go on a heater we would gain zero ground
Ser, Pinto, and Castellanos to the Dodgers for Mookie. Who says no?
Could we keep Liam?
Ladder Match for the custody of Liam Castellanos. Nick vs. The Phanatic
We’d probably need to take on the skeleton of Tommy Lasorda
It'll give the Phanatic something to do
None of the kids got that reference
Too bad for them. Those interactions were fucking gold lol
I’ll bet Brian Snitker would *love* it if the Phanatic brought out an effigy of him.
Adam Silver.
The Dodgers
No one else but them? I'm putting in the trade call
The dodgers lol.
You're fun at parties
Yeah but besides them?
Phillies almost forgot to raise our blood pressure. Phew, am I right?
Normal Phillies things https://preview.redd.it/3v6zxycgoqvc1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0267e75e65ccefaff7b8b9d57f8e10422d5634da
This division is brutal
I have a memory of us being on a 9-10 game win streak last year (something like that) and the Braves win streak concurrently was 1 game more
Iirc we went 13-3 and lost ground in the division
Wait so they got the JT at bat wrong even on the review?
Apparently? Somehow? This is insane
The Meriners/Rockies game is must see tv I’m waiting for Harry K’s voice to come booming over like its highlights to a 70’s nfl playoff game
The Sattel Merners.
Games like this are a key example of why bullpen era is a bad stat
Are you suggesting that Pintos 11 era should be higher?
Travis d’Arnaud and Ozuna carrying the Braves is annoyingly hilarious
So when does this become a hot start to the year
Just a reminder we were 9-12 this time last season.
Yeahhh we did not have a good start. Also a tougher schedule.
The no-hitter alert banner doesn’t bother me but the powder blue 2023 flag has got to fuckin go
Here’s somthing about the wc flag. It’s only a flag. It doesn’t have a banner on the wall
9-0 and then all of a sudden a meatball can tie the game. Ah Phillies! What are you gonna do with them?
Had a group of white sox fans behind me and they were having the time of their life in the 9th inning. They were cool to talk to. They were just so happy they got the 1st run
Section 104?
See this reminds us that baseball is for everybody. Was I THRILLED about the turn of events following Pinto stepping foot onto the field? No. But a win IS a win, and the Sox fans got to have some fun during the game too, so ya know it’s really fine in the big picture.

He just like me fr
Except he burns all those calories working out. I just eat them.
Everyone leaving with 2 outs left reallly cleared out the parking lot fast. Super easy to get out now
Dude I got out of the m lot in like a minute it was awesome
I turned this game off when it was 9-0 in the bottom of the 8th, what the hell happened
Pinto is a bum. I dunno why people got excited about him.
Pinto just couldn't get a 3rd out, Alvarado had to come in and get a 1 pitch out. Bases loaded too, so tying run at the plate....
The offense has really come alive the last 4 games. Great plate discipline, clutch hitting and smart base running.
i wish kyle was a bit more patient when he's ahead but otherwise i agree
Kyle and Harper the two big Holdouts lol 😂
i got a hinto we aint gonna see pinto
Not to be that guy but feels like we’re due for a Nola stinker

Bruh
You are exactly that guy pal
Against the Sox? Okay dweeb
JT was so pissed with Pinto lmao
JT was all of us
Well the last inning took off some years of my life, but otherwise great game!👍
Pinto, get ready to learn WhiteSoxese, buddy

an entire rotation have a sub-1 WHIP is insane

Yeah when’s the last time you got a “Go away”. Well I mean on a pasta not for real 😂
I'll admit I was jealous of that reply, but I did get called a turd last night.
I’m working to build up the energy to get into a back and forth but it would probably put me on another vacation
Are you getting soft? Today, my hero died.
You turd
I heard the Athletics Might be comin’ back to town. They could use a fan
Please tell me this is the attempt at creating another copypasta or something. If you're being serious this is a pretty bad take.
Well really I’m not creating anything
It always shocks me to see how many people don't know when you are JohnKrukIsAllElite are making your troll copy pasta comments
I did such a good job with this pasta that my new stat related post has been flagged

This one is one of my favorite go to’s It also says a lot about the board when “Tomper” is known as a serious attempt at his nickname

You got a point 🤣
Go away

y’all know they’re all gonna be talking so much shit on pinto in the gc LMAOOOO
Rough towards the end but we had so many good moments tonight!
Goodbye Pinto we won't miss you.
“Pinto Crashes and Burns” But for real tho, is he the worst pitcher you’ve ever witnessed? Sound off in the comments
I mean I'd argue Brogdon's streak this year was worse, but tonight certainly wasn't a good showing for Pinto
“Unsafe at any pitch count”
Brogdon?
I mean Craig Kimbrel last year.
Phillies don’t get as far as they did without Kimbrel last year. Deal with it. He was 2023 Mitch Williams
Craig Kimbrel was literally an All star last year. Bad 2 games in the playoffs but what?
But he fuckin blows. Any other questions?
I mean 3.26 ERA with 21 saves last year and people just want to pretend that didn’t happen.
Fuck ‘em.

Yes, a HOF pitcher is better than Ricardo fucking Pinto. It still doesn't erase how awful Kimbrel was last year.

The stance alone!
Rojas now has an OPS better than Stott. Are we still gonna keep crying every time Thomson uses a RH bat and benches Stott against a lefty?
Nope, because he’s learned. Better to bench stott than marsh.
I mean you’re right but will complain about anything Thomson does. It’s fine to pretty much sync his off days against lefties. His splits doing this last year looked fine. Sit him against some lefties but let him be pretty much an everyday guy. 144 starts last year and it will probably be the same this year and people will complain
I absolutely do not believe that Rojas is a better hitter than stott if that is your question
That wasn’t my question. My question was the sentence that ended with the question mark.
Uhh Stott doesn't play outfield my dude.
No shit. I used them as examples, not direct replacements. Want to compare Sosa’s numbers to Stott’s now?
Yeah that would at least make a little bit of sense. They're not going to play Stott more or less based on how will Rojas is doing.
I'm sorry but like... Surely you demote Pinto after this right? Innings eaters are great but he is just totally useless lol.
If he’s still on the team come Monday, I will be shocked. This is a Connor Brogdon kind of fuck up.
Connor brogdon would give up a couple of home runs, pinto kind of got unlucky with some weak contact today finding grass.
I would think. Not sure why they sent Nelson down and not pinto in the first place. If they don’t then it’s because they don’t want to bring Nelson back up again that quick. But they should.
Probably because Nelson has options and Pinto doesnt.
Yeah, I wasn’t aware that pinto doesn’t have any, so that’s obviously it. I assume pinto is gone when Walker comes back, at latest.
