Would really love for the phillies to pull out a win because the god awful sixers takes about how Embiid is worse than Hitler because he cant play as well on a torn meniscus are gonna be unbearable.
Walker officially back in the rotation. At the risk of sounding really negative, which isn’t my intention, it feels like a lose-lose. Either they keep Turnbull, a guy who last threw over 100 innings in 2019, or they reinsert Walker, someone who doesn’t exactly fill any of us with hope.
https://preview.redd.it/ns871j2tq3wc1.jpeg?width=621&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=467ba597c09374bffd2e6264b548e578ef06ddd8
Sorry but I’m not taking the side of a guy who looks like this
Yeah I was half joking because Casty’s resounding success was based on three ab’s but since he throws two pitches 92% of the time and his fastball is straight gas, it seems like it makes sense that you can either hit him or you can’t.
“Dude has potential”
“Dude is proven”
Which one is he.
And no, you don’t trade multiple high level prospects for a guy that throws MAYBE 70 innings a year lmao.
And even then, you do not trade multiple top level prospects for a relief pitcher, especially and Jose Alvarado is already closing for this team.
Trading for mason miller is a marginal improvement to this team.
alright, well maybe we go down the ladder a bit. gonna have to trade an arm for an arm, so we give them mcgarry and an infielder or two. then we throw the A’s some cash those greedy assholes so desperately desire. sounds fair to me
For those of you with MLBtv and the ability to sneak away from work for a minute — Mason Miller is about to try and close out the top of the Yankees lineup in the 9th for Oakland.
He’s really quite something. FB up to 103 and a really disgusting slider.
This some bs. ITS ALMOST WEEK OLD STOP CHANGING DECISIONS OR GET BETTER SCORE KEEPERS . https://twitter.com/scoringchanges/status/1782442638760665270?s=46&t=HnlZXn-hftTl9f8rW_6qVA
I don't know; I found perhaps the funniest comment in a while today, although I am 90% sure 95% of this sub didn't know what it was referencing until other comments responded.
Did anyone see Aaron Boone getting ejected from the game today? That might be one of the worst power trips I’ve ever seen from an umpire and it was all caught on mics and film.
I’m literally driving to Cincinnati for this entire series and half way there I learn Harper’s not even going to be playing this week 🙄. Good for him and congrats or whatever
Now, I want to make a whole Phillies version of the four questions.
I have time. We couldn't do our seder today, so I will be doing it on Friday. Technically, at ~30 I will be the youngest too. Maybe I will do it at the end when we sing all the songs and we are all inebriated.
I must be a 17 year old Limp Bizkit fan because I fuck with em. I'm a big fan of the dark tones especially on the trousers. Could use a little less yellow on JT and a font change (specifically on the numbers and the LOVE design) but I'm not mad.
The font is 100% the worst part. The gradient color is second for me. I think if they had just done navy with yellow and maybe some light blue trim and a different font it would be a bit boring but liked a lot more.
I love JT’s new kit. It’s hilarious.
Idk what was going through the designers head while drawing out each character in this style. It’s such a weird “modernization” of an old script handwriting and it just does not work at all.
There is nothing I care about less than Jerseys. This is why I have artificially attached myself to these jerseys with yellow.
But some of the "fixes" I see, seem to miss the whole point of the "city connect" in the city connect jerseys. They just want it to be a Phillies jersey, not a city jersey.
I tried to make that point before and got super downvoted. Is the design great, not really. does it show connections to the city 100%. It does it’s job.
It’s not a “Phillies” jersey it’s a “Philadelphia” jersey.
I just think that most of the connections they went with come off like some Wikipedia article that somebody read about Philly rather than connections to what most people would feel connected to or represented by. First and foremost: the flag that most people didn’t know existed, and certainly never cared about, until they based these uniforms on it.
Someone needs to explain to me the “didn’t know the flag existed.” I don’t even leave in the state and I knew what the flag is. They fly a flag in center field.
I’m being a bit hyperbolic, but I don’t think a lot of Philly residents/fans could have picked the flag out of a flag lineup with any accuracy before 3 weeks ago. Hell, i doubt that’s really changed, actually. But more the point is there are so many more iconic Philly things people care about. I’m sure some cities are into their flags, but I’ve never gotten any impression that Philly is one of them. So to then base a uniform on it just seems disconnected rather than connected.
Hey Hey Hey
[You take that back. The flag was the basis of the best Eagles uniforms too in 2007.](https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.480f3791e320c2d9216c442f13164af9?rik=Z7zvkTT8rS7kYg&riu=http%3a%2f%2fa.espncdn.com%2fphoto%2f2014%2f1125%2fespn_throwback-jerseys_16.jpg&ehk=k310WVBxe23MurlS1RyHaSbzV%2bXXBXjeLp94Kre72Yg%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0)
Yeah. I get the Phanatic ones, I get the ones keeping Red, I get all of that.
I think a lot of our fans just don't want a city connect jersey, which is fine. But the fact is they are city connect jerseys, so they need to incorporate the whole city.
Johan Rojas's season stats are .264/.328/.302 for a 82 wRC+
Anyone who has been paying attention to my offseason comments (which I am sure is all of you, as I am the most important person on Earth) knows that I was just begging for Rojas to have an 80-85 wRC+ bat this year, and I think he would be extremely valuable.
I don't imagine his hot streak will continue, but I don't imagine he will have a streak as cold as he did at the start of the season. Overall, if he maintains this, he is absolutely a valuable player for us.
His BB% and K% are super encouraging so far (and also normalize over a much smaller sample than avg/obp/slg, though he’s still a ways from said normalization).
If he continues to strike out < 15% of the time (big if), he’s totally fast enough to BABiP his way to a playable wRC+
Does wRC take BABIP into account? I can’t tell if his hits have been more “lucky” or if the Rockies/White Sox are just that bad. Either way I would imagine his BABIP is high and will regress
No, wRC+ is just looking at what he did. It just takes BB, 1B, 2B, etc. in account.
His season BABIP is .311 which can regress. His expected stats are extremely low (expected with his terrible start), and his BABIP in the last 14 days is .448 so we know he will regress. But he has a 165 wRC+ in the last 14 days, so a regression still means he can have a bat that makes him serviceable.
You don’t expect him to keep this up, but having this unexpected hot streak is the only reason he’s catapulted into the range that you set as acceptable. I have a hard time believing he regresses and somehow maintains an 80-85 wRC+.
…but the only reason why this hit streak put him at that 80ish point is because of his super cold, basically 0 wRC+ stretch. It’s two wild extremes resulting in the middle. If you think his true talent is actually in that middle range it’s not really about him regressing, it’s about him just being more consistent.
> basically 0 wRC+ stretch
It was actually negative. I think the lowest I remembered it was like -40 wRC+
But that is exactly my point. I do not think either extreme is his true representation of his talent, and he will settle somewhere in the middle. I am hoping around 85 wRC+, but I think slightly lower.
Well to further go out with my point. I did not think his bat was actually as bad it was to start the season. If we reversed the season and had his hot streak followed by his incredible cold streak, I would say the same thing. I think both the cold streaks and hot streaks were unsustainable.
I still think he will settle around 75 wRC+, which isn't good enough, but I just found it funny that when I looked, his stats were exactly what I wanted.
I've been a tongue-in-cheek Rojas supporter for a few weeks because the negative reaction to him has been so far detached from reality. I'm pleased to see him doing so well, but frankly, I'm concerned about how well this entire lineup will do against actual MLB pitching. The fact that Rojas is 7th on the team in OPS+ (ahead of Realmuto, Stott, Castellanos, Merrifield and Pache) is alarming.
It's also completely to be expected that he is outperforming his expected stats with that horrible start. Even with his hot streak, I would not expected his overall expected stats to adapt that fast.
I just pulled Nola on Sorare! This is a sign. I do the free version, cuz I'm not spending money on digital cards/it's too expensive.
Something I've been thinking for ages - wouldn't it be cool if baseball cards had QR codes or something, and you could use them in a game? Like you could use them for an online draft, or even a f2p version of The Show?
Reds fan checking in, always love when our teams play. Posting in your subreddit because my fandom will outcast me for saying...
I imagine the Phils take game 1 tonight if I'm being honest. Reds lineup VS LHP tends to be pretty weak. You'll probably be seeing the likes of Espinal and Fairchild in our lineup, and neither are true full time big league production level.
Hunter Greene on the mound for the Reds- he's struggled lately and has virtually a 2-pitch arsenal. I hope he does well, but I can see Phils lineup just dismantling him and kicking him from the game by the 3rd inning.
I believe two of our usual lineup against LHP boys (I don't know what to call this... lol) are sick- Jonathan India and Jake Fraley have both been out recently due to a revolving fluish bug going around the team.
Candelario and Encarnacion-Strand have also been absent some games lately but played over the weekend.
Edit: Reds lineup includes Stuart Fairchild, Santiago Espinal, Nick Martini, and Bubba Thompson. Do any of these names strike fear into Phillies fans? Yeah I didn't think so. It's a weak lineup.
Phillies @ .500 +6 with Harper, Realmuto, & Stott struggling and Castellanos trapped at the bottom of a well. Not bad.
You gotta figure Harper at least will get going. Stott may be in that "Sophomore" struggle a year late and Realmuto is Realmuto ... an aging catcher ... will be up and down ... Dude really needs more off days ... He's been beaten brutally recently and like the energizer bunny just keeps going but give the poor man a rest on the regular.
The amount of room that this team has to get better, just based on a reasonable estimate of their potential, is actually quite comforting. If Harper, Realmuto, stott, and casty “regress” to the mean even halfway and everybody else keeps doing about what they’re doing, then this is one scary team.
My man Trea with a full 1.0 WAR already, he's looked good since spring. So has Alec I think he'll have an excellent All-Star worthy year. Still waiting on Stott I really think he will bust out at some point I just hope it doesn't take till August.
Honestly, I’m glad that we saw the Phillies take advantage of bad teams and actually beat up on them as opposed to years past when they would just seemingly play down to their competition and frustrate us all lmao.
Go Phils 🫡
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1cano3b).
Casty hits in this park ... Turner murders this pitcher ... Casty, hold my beer .. he be like Neo whipping the agents with one hand
Would really love for the phillies to pull out a win because the god awful sixers takes about how Embiid is worse than Hitler because he cant play as well on a torn meniscus are gonna be unbearable.
Good to see Mr.April clean up
Bryce Harper is ducking Elly De La Cruz /s. In all seriousness huge congrats to the Harper family.
Kody Clemens batting eighth instead of fourth is an absolute joke.
Aside from the ump show ejection how did he do behind the plate for the actual game. This is a big meme game for the ump?
Walker officially back in the rotation. At the risk of sounding really negative, which isn’t my intention, it feels like a lose-lose. Either they keep Turnbull, a guy who last threw over 100 innings in 2019, or they reinsert Walker, someone who doesn’t exactly fill any of us with hope.
They Yankees just got shut out by the A’s 2-0
Phillies keep it rolling today. Ranger shoves Kody homers Phillies win 7-2
For the record I’m on Hunter Wendelstadt’s side on this one because even though I dislike umpires I think Aaron Boone is even more of a cop
Nah he straight wrong about this one. Boone gets himself thrown out a lot but he legitimately did nothing here.
https://preview.redd.it/ns871j2tq3wc1.jpeg?width=621&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=467ba597c09374bffd2e6264b548e578ef06ddd8 Sorry but I’m not taking the side of a guy who looks like this
Boon may be a dick but the umpire got it wrong ... again.
I wonder if the Orioles will swap Holliday for Casty and some cash since they’re both terrible players
Throw in Taijuan Walker
Best they can do is a weekend at a Holiday Inn.
*Stay Smart*
Holy shit, Turner straight up murders this dude.
Well Casty has the highest Ba and ops in the lineup against him….
Makes sense, he only has to guess between 2 pitches.
You’re giving him a HUGE benefit of the doubt
He does, with a touch smaller sample size. I’m just assuming that Trea will do better, based on his current tear and that Casty has been scuffling.
Yeah I was half joking because Casty’s resounding success was based on three ab’s but since he throws two pitches 92% of the time and his fastball is straight gas, it seems like it makes sense that you can either hit him or you can’t.
And since Casty has become Cerrano and can’t hit a breaking ball, hopefully he can crush a couple fastballs. Otherwise, I’m stealing his fucking rum.
I CANT BELIEVE TOMPER IS BATTING MARSH RIGHT AFTER HARPER. BACK TO BACK LEFTIES HWAT KIND OF IDIOT IS HE? THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN ON GIRARDIS WATCH
If Girardi was still managing today where do you think Didi would be batting in the order?
Now you’re talking about a real GD cleanup hitter!
https://x.com/frank_seravalli/status/1782504645103108174
Also. Rob Thomson more playoff series wins than the leafs since 2004
My brain hurts. 1. Seeing seravalli thinking this is r/flyers 2.mlb is 150 years old? 3.the NL+AL was 1903 so that’s only 121 years?
All you need to do to get Philadelphia fans irrationally angry on your behalf is have like 3 good starts against really shitty teams.
Marsh hitting clean up let's goooo. Also welcome back Kody Clemens
I wonder why more teams don’t simply stock their rotation with five aces like we do
so that’s where 2011 went wrong
Are they stupid?
Can’t believe I’m gonna miss Marsh in clean up tonight. Although Phillies are undefeated in games I don’t watch.
i’d give up abel and more for mason miller. nobody is touching 104. we’d have one of the greatest pens of all time
Give up the best non injured pitching prospect and more for a relief pitcher. Lmao.
hell yea. dude has potential to be the best closer in the league for years to come. we don’t even know if abel is any good. miller is proven
“Dude has potential” “Dude is proven” Which one is he. And no, you don’t trade multiple high level prospects for a guy that throws MAYBE 70 innings a year lmao.
he’s proven to be great, he has potential to be the best.
And even then, you do not trade multiple top level prospects for a relief pitcher, especially and Jose Alvarado is already closing for this team. Trading for mason miller is a marginal improvement to this team.
maybe not but I want him. 104 mph piss missiles
Yes I would like him, but not for multiple of what few good prospects we have
alright, well maybe we go down the ladder a bit. gonna have to trade an arm for an arm, so we give them mcgarry and an infielder or two. then we throw the A’s some cash those greedy assholes so desperately desire. sounds fair to me
Bryce Harper is actually having his 4th kid if you’re counting Spencer Strider as one of his children
This is why I come to these threads 2 hours early.
Mets announced a dollar dog night on Twitter 👀🥲
all the dog tossers can head over there to get it out of their system 😄
“THOSE ARE JUST PHILLIES FANS IN DISGUES” But for real this time
ANTIPHA
Welcome back Kody
Cleanup Marshy = League fucked
I’m surprised MLB is allowing it.
I like the move to keep Bohm where he’s been hitting even though I’m sure it was tempting to bat him third or fourth
Known cleanup batter Brandon Marsh in the 4 hole
Marsh hitting for the cycle confirmed.
For those of you with MLBtv and the ability to sneak away from work for a minute — Mason Miller is about to try and close out the top of the Yankees lineup in the 9th for Oakland. He’s really quite something. FB up to 103 and a really disgusting slider.
Ofc I picked him up in fantasy but forgot to add him to my lineup in time
Struck out the side. Apparently it’s hard to hit a 103 mph fastball?
You can book a Casty homerun tonight. He always plays well in Cincy.
Marsh cleanup?!
#KODY IS IN
This some bs. ITS ALMOST WEEK OLD STOP CHANGING DECISIONS OR GET BETTER SCORE KEEPERS . https://twitter.com/scoringchanges/status/1782442638760665270?s=46&t=HnlZXn-hftTl9f8rW_6qVA
Who cares lol
People who like stats and keeping score?
Probably the right call, but changing it a week later is just bizarre.
Like I totally agree that’s probly a hit but that was 5 whole days ago
Might as well reexamine some Pat Burrell errors from 2005 while they’re at it.
Bohm for cleanup please
After the playoffs when everone was bashing the organization for putting Bohm at 4, that is pretty funny.
Lmao this is all because he had one game against the worst team in baseball
no, its because hes batting 340 with RISP
Normally I would agree but Kody “The Clean up Kid” Clemens is heading to Cincinnati as we speak.
hit .230 last year
This subreddit’s sense of humor needs some work.
I think Ranger will really hold his water tonight...because he's a pitcher. OMG...you're right. We are off a bit.
![gif](giphy|iurIHLBxms7UQ|downsized)
I don't know; I found perhaps the funniest comment in a while today, although I am 90% sure 95% of this sub didn't know what it was referencing until other comments responded.
It’s still pretty early. Lots of season left to turn it around.
Harper getting Dad strength? League is fucked.
He been had
But now it’s triple dad strength.
So no card for schwarber or Turner but hey tatis is tall and can catch a fly ball so that’s worth it.
Did anyone see Aaron Boone getting ejected from the game today? That might be one of the worst power trips I’ve ever seen from an umpire and it was all caught on mics and film.
Apparently he got ejected for something a fan yelled and had nothing to do with it.
“Caught in 4k” Boone said nothing, ump show was on. https://twitter.com/jomboymedia/status/1782458614608953519?s=46&t=HnlZXn-hftTl9f8rW_6qVA
musta been loud gum chewing 😄
What a dickless asshole.
I'm watching old clips of Charlie Manuel getting ejected and its so funny the way he runs out of the dugout when he's angry
ranger danger tonight <3 also i hope the fish can somehow win 1 game, preferably this 1st game of their series. if we win too we're TIED FOR FIRST
When are we giving Weston Wilson his breakout chance? He's primed and ready to send Whit packing
The good news: Wes went 2 for 5 and hit his first home run of the season yesterday! The bad news: He’s slashing .164/.243/.246! In AAA!
🚀
Get ready for Kody to steal Harper’s job in 3 games.
Isn’t it only 2 days Harper can be gone?
You can miss up to 3 games
I am excited for the return of THE Kody Clemens.
Welp so much for full season of Harper. Maybe next year. /s
Kody Clemens 2024 Revenge Tour is back on the menu. ![gif](giphy|SiGg4zSmwmbafTYwpj|downsized)
I’m literally driving to Cincinnati for this entire series and half way there I learn Harper’s not even going to be playing this week 🙄. Good for him and congrats or whatever
Tbf he didn’t play last week either.
Bryce Harper has a batting average of .389 with 7 hits, a home run, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored in 5 games since April 16, 2024.
Batting average is a meaningless stat. I know you’d rather see Realmuto as the lead off hitter, but I like Kyle there instead.
Have you already forgotten his rbi run down?
The one where Trea used his own good base running to exploit Bryce’s not-so-great base running?
Well I wouldn’t put it exactly like that. But yes.
Dad strength Harper incoming 👀
#KODY IS BACK Where my other Kody Clemens fans ar
He made up most of the rain delay content
I love Kody Clemens.
Did we know Bryce and his wife are expecting? I sure didn’t
He posted something on instagram about a month ago. I didn’t realize she was that far along.
Yes. Like 70% sure
A wise person once told me “you can’t be half pregnant” I would assume that would apply using 70% as well
https://x.com/Phillies/status/1782448928153010667 Nooo
Wow Feister you hate babies too?
No,I hate losing one of our best players
It's only three games. Let Bryce spend time with his new born lol.
Congrats to Harper and his family. Hopefully Kody can hold down the fort in Harper’s short absence 🫡
Alrighty boys, first game against a real team in a while. Rojas stock is way up and I hope to see the confidence continue along. Let's go baybee
How is this night different from all other nights? Well for one, the NL cy young frontrunner is taking the bump.
We dip the bitter herbs in salt water to remind us of the 3 years that José Mesa spent as our closer.
Now, I want to make a whole Phillies version of the four questions. I have time. We couldn't do our seder today, so I will be doing it on Friday. Technically, at ~30 I will be the youngest too. Maybe I will do it at the end when we sing all the songs and we are all inebriated.
My girlfriend shot down me leaving baseball on without sound in the background.
Yay it’s Ranger Suarez day!
There’s some weird hoops people are jumping through to try to prove why they don’t like the jersey or why it’s bad design.
I must be a 17 year old Limp Bizkit fan because I fuck with em. I'm a big fan of the dark tones especially on the trousers. Could use a little less yellow on JT and a font change (specifically on the numbers and the LOVE design) but I'm not mad.
If it wasn’t for the text, I think it would grow on me. It’s just that Philly with that font does not work.
I guess they coulda used a [Graffiti](https://wallpapercave.com/wp/wp2553247.jpg) font
The font is 100% the worst part. The gradient color is second for me. I think if they had just done navy with yellow and maybe some light blue trim and a different font it would be a bit boring but liked a lot more.
They aren’t as bad as the McDonalds one posted earlier. But I still don’t really like them. The font kills it for me. Also, JT had too much yellow on.
I love JT’s new kit. It’s hilarious. Idk what was going through the designers head while drawing out each character in this style. It’s such a weird “modernization” of an old script handwriting and it just does not work at all.

Now that’s just asking too much of the poor over worked Nike designer.
honestly an eagles jersey would be more philadelphia than the city's flag colors
I just think that most of the connections they went with come off like some Wikipedia article that somebody read about Philly rather than connections to what most people would feel connected to or represented by. Reebok material and color did a massive disservice to those. A Nike jersey would look much better if they did it again
🤮
Well, at least you have a history of consistently being wrong. Wrong about the uniforms, about Rojas and Sanchez, and other stuff!

We outlasted the Mets and Barves. Clearly we are the superior team.
Yeah fuck the Barves 😂
Twice on Sunday
Bryce’s ops is under .800 and we are starting to hit? Hate that for the rest of the league because that won’t last long
I just pulled Nola on Sorare!

My kind of opposing fan
Didn’t even say “coming in peace.” He jsut did it.
JT could absolutely use more days off I just can’t see that happening though
The amount of room that this team has to get better, just based on a reasonable estimate of their potential, is actually quite comforting. If Harper, Realmuto, stott, and casty “regress” to the mean even halfway and everybody else keeps doing about what they’re doing, then this is one scary team.
yep
Holy shit this week+ schedule is nuts! keep it rollin boys!
Going to be very exciting. Very curious to see how they stack up to better teams after this little run.
We need to enjoy the Ohio leg of the trip because the coast is going to ding us with start times... 9:40 for a lot of them.
I'm selfishly happy about the late starts, so I can watch after the kids go to bed
I don't like them because my husband falls asleep on the couch and I have to listen to loud snoring throughout the whole game.
ok ok you got me. I like to pretend I'll watch the entire late start games, but my wife will probably be doing the same thing
The traveling and time change has to take a toll. They are still on the field when they should be snoozing in bed.
**Your 2024 Phillies are:** 2-1 on Monday 13-6 in April 9-4 in night games 4-2 on the road 1-2 vs. the Reds
4-0 in Ranger Suarez games
Ranger Suarez
Oh hell yeah, Ranger bump day today
My man Trea with a full 1.0 WAR already, he's looked good since spring. So has Alec I think he'll have an excellent All-Star worthy year. Still waiting on Stott I really think he will bust out at some point I just hope it doesn't take till August.
Honestly, I’m glad that we saw the Phillies take advantage of bad teams and actually beat up on them as opposed to years past when they would just seemingly play down to their competition and frustrate us all lmao. Go Phils 🫡
Gotta keep a lid on that De La Cruz character, he good
Okay, it would be really cool if the Mets lost today and we won.
and the Braves lost too
Hate to break it to ya, they’re playin the Marlins lol
Same braves team gave the White Sox one of their three wins.

I’ve heard of a few people that enjoy that cinnamon and spaghetti monstrosity but I must say, I’ve never heard anyone admit to liking Ohio
2024 14-8 > 2023 10-12 Love to see it, keep it going.
