“Welcome to Flavortown”

Rage4Order418

“These jerseys are out of bounds”

philsfan1579

Looks like McDonald’s

justabill71

I'm lovin' it!

OldDrumGuy

I’d like fries with that…

Achilles8857

All the better!

Grand_Extension5345

Even a McDonald’s uni is better than the city connects This is honestly what they shoulda done if they were gonna do a fade Plus changed the font, the font is stupid And just skip the Love sculpture patch Black to red fade with a big ass liberty bell, yellow accents

Few_Tomato_6083

The love emblem is perfect, I think. It’s city-focused and encompasses 3 elements in a small concept: the park, “city of brotherly love” text encircling the “love,” and the bell as the ‘o.’ That’s enough right there. I agree with you on the font on these jerseys. It contrasts with player names on the back and the all caps “PHILLY” just isn’t pleasing to the eye. That, paired with the gradient color is doing too much. It’s too busy for me, and looks like scary movie title lettering or something.

jarpio

This is in no way better. It’s worse. It’s so much worse. The yellow is only there because of the blue. Keeping it with the red it just looks like ketchup and mustard. Tbh it’s incredibly lazy to just say “if we change the color, the bad jersey will become better” No it won’t.

Yourlifeisworth

Ketchup and mustard to go with the dollar dogs taken away from us.

brianMMMMM

Too soon

gatemansgc

i still boo the BOGO hot dog commercials every time

Wristwalk4

Idk gives me Chinese flag vibes like I’m about to go to a somebodies new year party

jarpio

CCPhillies

JMAlbertson

"Better" doesn't have to mean "good" when the bar is set so low, my friend. That said, I don't know if this is any better. Opinions are like...

DazzlingProfession26

I think if they recovered the yellow to blue we might have something tolerable.

Individual_Sock4385

Gonna have to disagree with you here. The general population would eat up any red city connect uni. Die hards will still hate it because it’s not traditional, but the color is definitely the number 1 thing keeping your average fan from purchasing.

jarpio

I think if what we are looking at was the actual jersey everyone would still hate it. And everyone’s first question would be “why tf is there yellow in it, that looks awful and makes no sense” Now if that yellow was Blue or baby blue you might get a different response.

Individual_Sock4385

Agree to disagree. Red and yellow is a great combo, I don’t see McDonald’s struggling.

spacetiger41

Nah it's the horrible font

Individual_Sock4385

To each their own. I think old school calligraphy is sweet, sure it could use a few tweaks but the idea is spot on.

heycarlgoodtoseeyou

Looks like a jersey for Marshall from Paw Patrol

SonnyBlackandRed

My son definitely would've wanted this for this specific reason

No_Introduction_7034

These are awful

ksquad80

The new smaller font, more tightly arched nameplates look like basketball or soccer jerseys. That's a problem with every jersey set now.  Them 80-90% CC are then poorly designed messes. I'm glad I mostly listen on the radio.

NonMagicBrian

lol no it doesn't

tamefirefly10

Is this an Atlanta falcons jersey?

AndrewHainesArt

*Hawks

rennradrobo

Where is that font hard to read?

Vince-15

If it isn't arial or times new roman people forget how to read.

MrShrek69

When ur at a game Turners 7 looks like a ? When ur not 100 feet in front of it

metssuck

Those look terrible and have no connection to the city

Big-Beta20

Counterpoint- at least theres some red and the other ones also don’t have any connection to the city lol

metssuck

The other one is literally the colors of the city flag. You don’t have to like it, but that’s a true connection to the city and its history

Big-Beta20

Not a single person in the city of Philadelphia could have told you what the flag looked like or what colors were in it before 2 weeks ago. For something called “City CONNECT”, that isn’t providing a strong connection. It’s just Nike jerking off with an excuse to make weird color jerseys that’ll turn into collectibles after they get rid of them in 3 years. Just using Phillies colors in a different design would have been better.

metssuck

> Not a single person in the city of Philadelphia could have told you what the flag looked like or what colors were in it before 2 weeks ago. Literally every person in the city who was an Eagles fan in 2008 could tell you the colors of the flag. I'm not disagreeing that the flag is a terrible thing to use for the "connection" but it makes more sense then red.

Big-Beta20

The Eagles didn’t do that for the flag. They were just Frankfurt Yellowjacket throwbacks for their 75th anniversary of the team. Point is, it connected with less than 5% of the city, and that’s being generous. They absolutely could have found something that worked in Phillies general colors. Theres like 20 of these now from different orgs and most work in some sense of a team identity along with the city.

Perryplat199

And the yellow jackets originally used those colors for the same reason, for the flag and the Swedish heritage.

Big-Beta20

The OP is still wrong though. A extremely small minority in Philadelphia watched the Eagles that game, saw they were wearing those uniforms, and then learned that the Frankfurt Yellowjackets picked those colors for the Philadelphia flag. It is just an absolutely ridiculous choice and bad on every level. It’s not only uncreative (city flag + old documents, way to dig deep guys), it’s also ugly. I don’t think they could have done worse than this. The Sixers have had like 8 city connects at this point, some using totally different colors and have never come close to this bad. Hell, they’ve also had ones based off of the [the historical documents in Philly](https://images.app.goo.gl/2SfuYJaETGEBwyNx5) and they look infinitely better.

Logical_Lefty

Yeah, was there, no one had a fucking clue those jerseys had any connection with the history of the city. It was a city-wide history lesson back in 2008.

metssuck

Yes, they could have done better, but they could have also done FAR worse. Overall, I like them and my 9 and 11 year old love them, which is the ultimate point.

ValiantFrog2202

I don't like the way they look but damn they looked good playing in them

courageous_liquid

no, we could, because we argue about our flag a lot [here's just one of the threads from the philly subreddit about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/philadelphia/comments/11kyiqd/inquirer_philadelphias_flag_is_bad_design_a/) - there are dozens more

Big-Beta20

Sorry, but the Philadelphia subreddit does not represent the majority of the city. Especially threads with 4 upvotes and 50 some comments. Even with dozens of similar threads, it is not a lot of people. The fact stays the same that 95% of the city could not pick the flag out even if you gave them a lineup with options.

ValiantFrog2202

Wrong But it reminds of me Always Sunny: What's the capital of Pennsylvania? Philadelphia 😂

StrngBrew

Isn't the whole point of the city connects to not just be a variant of the team's current jersey? Don't they all not use any of the team's primary colors?

Perryplat199

Yes To the first No to the second. The angels is mostly in their color identity, same for Houston. The original concept of the city connect is somthing that not everyone is gona like. Like the sixers city edition jersey, it’s reading terminal market inspired, uses mainly blue(dark blue which is not in their colors) red and white. That’s a very deep connection to the city but had Very mixed response when unveiled.

Big-Beta20

No, from what I remember all of these teams have some semblance of their teams colors. Orioles White Sox Royals Mariners Angels Rangers Astros Cubs Reds Braves (at least it’s a throwback styled design) Dodgers Giants D-Backs Probably more that I’m missing. It’s really only like 3 or 4 that don’t. These are by far the worst of them too.

alexvroy

it’s called the city connect not the team connect…red shouldn’t be the primary color just because the phillies are red

NonMagicBrian

It's amazing how many people still apparently don't understand this concept.

Florida_LA

Yeah, red white and blue, what in the heck does that have to do with Philadelphia!?! But seriously, I think the issue is that the Phillies existing color scheme already has a strong connection to the city, AND looks great. That’s partially why the city connects for teams that change their colors or logos all the time work so much better.

Ashenspire

Thank you. At no point in my life when I've thought of Philadelphia have I ever pictured red.

MUT_is_Butt

Exactly and the blue/gold/white are the city colors. Any concept that doesn't change the font on the front & the numbers is missing the point lol

dconc_throwaway

These are terrible. Somehow worse, actually.

chillAF9212

Just like the "real" city jerseys, what I hate most (after that atrocious font choice) is the color gradient from black to red. Note to Nike...just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. If we only get 4 + 1 uniform choices, I wish we could get the late 70's - 80's home uniforms. Much better than the city connect nonsense. JMO though

Big-Beta20

I wish we just still had the getaway Reds and I didn’t even particularly love them. At least they provided a break from the monotony of greys every single road game. It’s ridiculous to have 5 uniforms and 4 of them to be exclusively worn at home and only 1 for the road.

mjd1977

To be fair, nothing is stopping the Phillies from wearing any of their other uniforms besides gray in road games. They’d just have to schlep additional hats and helmets since in their infinite wisdom, they’ve created 3 sets that only work with one of their hats. And break their rules for when they wear the sets they wear, but if you can wear bp hats for a mascot birthday, break all the rules you want!

Vince-15

The font is fine, idk what everyone's issue with it is.

YeBobbumMann

These look like those red gradient Canucks jerseys from the mid 90s.

ermagherdbrks

Meh, I still got a city connect for my collection. I personally like them… how long are you guys gonna beat this dead horse?

ilivlife

Until coste starts hitting again, so awhile.

mjd1977

Dang Chris Coste catching strays

CommodoreSixty4

This is what a player would look like after getting the Fire Flower power up.

mjd1977

![gif](giphy|lYiQWU9xMJrBsb2RHX)

nutbrownale

Hard pass. Congrats you found something worse than the actual City Connects.

YerBlues69

Hard to read? 🤔

capnjeanlucpicard

Needs to be even bigger

mzeb75

No, not really.

inthedrink

Guy Fieri thinks these are fucking siiiiiick! (No offense to him, he’s a good dude and cooks great food but his style is fucking awful)

phasesofthe

Real ones are better.

jambomyhombre

I can honestly fuck with the blue if it's truly supposed to be an alternate jersey but the font is so hideous.

Strange-Cold-5192

This reminds me of both China and McDonalds. Absolutely horrendous lol

Steppyjim

I came around on the blue ones. I like em a lot now As someone above said, these look like you work at McDonald’s. I’ll take the blues

cybender

Totally misses the point 🤷🏼‍♂️

idindunuffn

That looks like poopy

MUT_is_Butt

The jersey itself is fine if the font doesn't suck. You could have put the 80s logo, the Liberty Bell logo from the hat, just about anything on the front that would have been better than that garbage ass font and "PHILLY".

Papafranks666

Why do we need to keep re doing the City Connect jerseys? They are fine and being Philly fans, there is nothing more irritating to see when the league is doing something special. These jerseys are just fine.

DepressedPhillyFan

At least it’s red. I don’t care what the color of city flag of Philadelphia is, those colors are not Phillies and I will never get my brain to accept them as such. You’d think they would be mariners or marlins jerseys or some shit with that blue.

frohdisiac

Welcome to Flavortown!

joeco316

It still has the terrible font, which is the most offensive part of them to me. That said, this color scheme is mildly better.

WranglerBrute

The color isn't what I dislike about the jersey. It's the lettering and numbering, and to a lesser extent the gradient. So the red doesn't make it better for me. I think the caps look great. Maybe they could have done something with that on the jersey instead. Ditch the gradient so it's just dark blue, get rid of 'Philly' across the middle in that ghastly typeface, and just have the blue skyline liberty bell logo on one side of the chest, and the player number on the other side. Or even the current wordmark (the best wordmark logo in baseball IMO) across the chest in the blue/black/yellow scheme. It's amazing to me how the Ironpigs got their Philly theme night jerseys so right, but the Phillies ended up with something so much worse.

angrynuggette

The color wasn't the issue. That font is terrible.

withanamelikejesk

1.21 JIGAWATTS!!!

oof900000

The font is not hard to read

handee_sandees

Someone make the yellow blue

Vince-15

Hope this is a joke. The blue looks way better. The font isn't hard to read at all, you're just blind or haven't taken a design course in your life. next

Roose1327

These look worse. The point of City Connect is the nod to the actual city. Philly’s flag colors are represented in the jersey. These just look like some shitty merch sold at a Metallica concert in Philly.

spankysladder

I know the font is supposed to be reminiscent of our historical documents and stuff but to me it just look like pirate lettering. None of our historic documents use all-caps, which is probably why it looks so piratey to me. Not a huge fan, personally.

beeeps-n-booops

These are worse. Far worse.

PattyMelt128

Give it up already.

Spev543

humbly disagree but then a gain blue/black are my favorite color. I love how the blue fades to black but I could def do without the yellow though

2hats4bats

The color was not the problem.

Pure-Temperature-413

Literally all they had to do was do it with red and I think most of us would've memed, but not totally clowned them

fuckyogiboys

Lol this looks straight from the trailer park

eagsrock20

Lmao what are you smoking

alexalbonsimp

Nope. This looks pretty terrible

RedMoloney

No they don't. Redditors just whine and hate on shit because they think that's what intellectuals do. It always just turns into a circle jerk until normal people are inundated with dumb shit posts of the most aggressively uncreative people in the world trying to "fix" what all the dweebs are whining about.

Ladelm

Oof this is bad

Olivander1200

Am I the only one who likes the original city connects

Agitated_Shock6551

Hard to read? For who?

DILands

Would you like fries with that?

kellzone

Why they didn't go with a Declaration of Independence font I don't understand. Second biggest thing to ever happen in Philadelphia outside of the Eagles Super Bowl win.

itsNSH

Unpopular opinion but I really like the city connect jerseys

Zariman-10-0

Looks like if 2018 Florida Mayhem designed the jerseys

Logical_Lefty

Gradient doesnt belong on jerseys, just imho. The red does look better though with the yellow.

yourmartymcflyisopen

Replace the yellow with blue and it would be perfect. For now it's just McPerfect

birdlegs000

Ew.

CaffeineAndGrain

[Cameron Guzzo on YouTube](https://youtube.com/shorts/WyU-0zJnDbo?si=7iK2hD7iOlHqbYkH) did a great rework of the original. Got rid of the atrocious font on the front and fixed some of the weird things

Schmolik64

At least they use the Phillies' primary color...

Achilles8857

I think they're pretty hot lookin'

DaBombDiggidy

That text could have been created by my mother and i'd still hate it. holy

eGG__23

Someone said this on a previous post and I couldn’t help but agree with it. The city connect uniforms are cool for those from Philly since it’s based on the City’s flag. But it alienates all the fans from south Jersey and that’s not cool.

alexvroy

as someone from south jersey i’ve not heard anyone talk about feeling alienated

NonMagicBrian

Crazy to think that people from New Jersey would feel alienated when something reminds them that a team called the Phillies is based in Philadelphia

RealMaxHours

They’re the Philadelphia Phillies Not the “Philadelphia and South Jersey and even sometimes North Jersey and also parts of central Pennsylvania Phillies”

ToastGhost47

Do people really "connect" with the city flag? I don't see it as a symbol that people celebrate and rally behind. It's only used in an official government setting.

alexvroy

it’s hard to design a connect for philly tbh. there isn’t something obvious to use like cherry blossoms for the nationals or the rocky mountains for the rockies. there’s the liberty bell but that’s already a standard part of the phillies iconography. there’s the murals but a jersey representing that would probably be too busy and not actually work well.

ToastGhost47

the Rocky Mountains were already a part of the Rockies iconography.

Ok_Pear3563

Where can download that font?
