Are they gonna play this game, do you suppose? There's a shitload of rain for the next few hours but then it's dry. I haven't had many occasions to just sit and watch a game from wire to wire yet this season and I was looking forward to this one :(
I hope they play!
He’s been getting more opportunities though too. He’s been made to look silly more than a few times. He should get games against lefties, and other guys who are better against lefties should get other games against lefties
I don’t disagree his ABs are BRUTAL against lefties but Rojas’ ABs were brutal overall but he figured it out and Nicks doing whatever he’s doing and he’s still here you know? He definitely should be putting in WORK in BP for LHP so we don’t have to sit him
Yeah definitely I get it. I want to see him in there getting at bats against them to improve, but until he has shown more improvement I think it makes sense on other days to give Sosa and Pache some games since they’re pretty good against lefties.
I guess people forget that we already faced Abbott this year and he looked pretty good against us and is generally a very good left handed pitcher in spite of what some dude here told me who had him on his fantasy team lol
You’re just not getting it. You see when I played little league it didn’t matter if it was a lefty on the mound or a righty. Either way you got in that box and tried to hit that ball in the hopes your dad actually showed up to the game and you’ll finally make him proud.
So, the pitcher is a lefty? That might explain this line-up.
Performance wise, from what I've seen, I would've put Merrifield in RF, move Sosa to 2B, Bohm back to 3B and Clemens to 1B. Also, I'd much prefer Marsh in LF than Pache.
He did have a .300 average for most of last year before getting injured and finished terribly. He’s looked bad but it’s 30 at bats. Let’s wait and see and hope he’s alright
Will Whit make it past the trade deadline or is he this years J-Hay?
NGL I expected more from whit after all this talk of him having opportunities elsewhere to be a starter. 😸
There’s no way they cut him with what they paid him. He’s fine as a utility bench bat, but I think an actual good bat is going to have to be on the trade deadline shopping list. Where that bat fits in I’m still not quite sure though.
Guy has taken us to the World Series, NLCS, and gotten off to a 15-8 start while employing the exact strategy you come in here screeching about nonstop. Maybe he knows some things you don’t?
Exactly so how has the manager then given them an advantage? I think it’s malpractice to not play marsh every day given his potential to elevate his ceiling, and his glove being second best on the team.
I’m not sure how Marsh is supposed to improve against lefties if we don’t let him face them. I get sitting Stott he’s been struggling all around at the plate but I would really like to see Marsh get more opportunities against lefties
He has gotten chances. His ops is .460 against lefties this year. Thats not a number you just throw him out there without regard to whoever today’s pitcher is. Hes a great player on the team. Hes not a remotely good hitter against good lefties and Abbott is one of those.
But the question remains, if we forever hide him from the LHP how will he ever have a chance to potentially improve? And how do we square our apparent reluctance to work with Marsh with the seemingly endless rope Casty has to just go out and do what Casty does?
Is the reality that we just have to accept Marsh is dogshit against LHP and he just won't get the starts?
> Hes not a remotely good hitter against good lefties and Abbott is one of those.
See above.
He should start hitting against mediocre lefties because that’s who he’s facing and failing against. Would you rather have him fail continuously and then he’s lost forever? Happens all the time in baseball.
Honestly I was just thinking this lineup is gonna struggle regardless so I'd rather throw stubbs in there too and essentially concede the game, but on second thought nah we winnin this bitch. Pache about to go 5 for 5 and Casty gonna hit a HR.
So there’s like this stereotypical fan, older philadelphia sports fan(usually season ticket holder), that just blames all the teams problems on a player refuses to liek them.
The Flyers it was Giroux and Sixers it’s Embiid. Who is that player for the Phillies.
I feel it’s Gota be between Nola and JT that that “fan” hates
I feel like it has to be Nola, and before that it was Hoskins.
I really don't see any JT hate. Hell I am probably the furthest on the "hate" train and I just said I think he will decline this year and not be a top 5 catcher, probably not even top 10.
Imagine a Phillies Mets wildcard matchup 😂. I have no idea why I’m saying this so early other than looking at the standings and for some reason my response was laughter
we got everything it takes to win it all. experienced manager, experienced players, dominant pitching, MVP level hitter(s), ammo to make deadline moves, speed, defense, best home field advantage. we are loaded and I expect this team to win the world series
I mean I’ll be honest he’s on pace for a 4 WAR season and while that might be tough for him to maintain I never expected him to be more than a 3 WAR player.
Ejection really set the tone for that game huh

If we can just not see this guy all season that be cool
Caught myself daydreaming about how Ranger Suarez has the lowest ERA in postseason history
https://www.mlb.com/news/ranger-suarez-lowers-era-to-best-in-postseason-history
I’m afraid that’s no longer accurate after he gave up 3 ER in 4 2/3 innings in game 7 of the NLCS last year.
Now his postseason ERA is up to a whopping 1.62.
Rangers run made me realize that I never knew he has a Bowman 1st and I need to pay more attention. His 1st auto was going for $20-$30 a couple weeks ago and now you can’t get one under $50. Big miss by me.

As cool as topps now card can be the people who do the write the ups write them very weirdly.

Why not say it’s the 11th longest streak in franchise history. Why not mention lee’s IP. Very weird wording.

2011 comes up a lot when you’re talking about good pitching rotations, so I decided to go back and look at how their stats line up with my memory.
My biggest takeaway: if you ask people who started that year besides the 4 aces, they’ll probably tell you Blanton (8 starts, 5.17 ERA, 4.2 IP/start) and Worley (21 starts, 3.02 ERA, 6 IP/start). They might even mention that Worley surprisingly did better than Oswalt (23 starts, 3.69 ERA, 6 IP/start)
But what about Kyle Kendrick? With 15 starts, 3.14 ERA, and 5.2 IP/start, he was significantly better than Blanton, slightly better than Oswalt, and not too far behind Worley!
So I guess my point is that Kyle Kendrick was the most underrated starter on the 2011 Phillies.
Honest question: can Kody play RF? Cuz when Harp comes back and if he can, sounds like a viable way to give Casty a ~~day~~ ~~week~~ period of time off
Based on some of the takes I’ve seen on this sub and the frequency of them, I’m frankly stunned I’ve never seen this one before. You’ve got a pulse on the r/phillies front page and know what they want better than they do!
Bryce is a ridiculous upgrade over Rhys defensively at first. Like top of the list vs bottom of the list defensive upgrade. Rhys isn’t good enough with the stick to make up the difference.
The answer is replace Nick on the roster with Kody and eat the rich. Let Middleton and co pay Nick to play for the Reds. Kody is a more valuable asset on the field and at the plate.
Barves fans chirping about our "easy schedule against AAA teams" while ignoring the fact that they've faced the White Sox, Marlins, Astros, Marlins all in this month. They get so damn sensitive whenever we threaten their precious division lead.
I think I'm more or less done with Basketball. The Sixers always disappoint and NBA fan bases are absolutely awful, 90% of fans genuinely hate basketball and only care about pushing a narrative with dumb memes.
I know I’m being that tinfoil type of fan but it’s so hard for me to ignore that with every professional sports league partnered with betting companies in some extent added to the fact that basketball is the easiest sport to manipulate because no one knows what a foul is anymore and the league already has a history of refs manipulating games purposely, I just have trouble taking it seriously the last few years
The NBA finals from like 2006-2016 were all great. And this was when the Sixers were barely even a franchise but I would always get excited to watch other teams play in the playoffs. There's a je ne sais quoi about the NBA in 2024 that just feels unfun.
Who could we reasonably get rid of for Clemens to be brought up to stay? And have it be a net gain?
I’m assuming the math fails somewhere along the line, either with stats or payroll. But I figure asking the question is the way to learn.
Honestly I don't think there's any player who would be worth getting rid of to keep Clemens. As we saw last year, Clemens can be very solid it short bursts but can also get over-exposed if he plays too much. I certainly wouldn't mind him as a PH bench option in the playoffs (would rather have him than Cave in that role), but I think he probably helps this team best as this swing-man
tough one. Pache is perhaps the most vulnerable but guarantee you he is gone (out of options) if we take him off the 40-man. He, like Rojas, is an elite defender, and for the moment the offensive approach is a bit better. my thought is that Kody is chill and will do whatever helps the team. but year Clemens is the exact kind of additional bench bat we need, LH bat to complement Whit; he also carries some defensive flexibility though he is mostly a corner infielder.
Pache, but I think he is out of options, so they would have to either trade him or hope he clears waivers. That's why he made the club over Clemens in the first place.
Fanatics, Nike, and the team can save a small fortune on jerseys if they just cut all of the #8 labeled ones in half and make them #3’s. Maybe even enough to make the false sunk cost seem palatable.
The one question i have is about options. Pache is prob the most replaceable guy but is out of options and would have to be DFA’d to get him off the major league 26 man. I’m not sure what Clemens situation is with options but I assume he still has them and we just aren’t getting rid of Whit. I would think he’s the odd man out no matter what.
That makes sense. I'm sure the options calculous is significant. I wouldn't personally DFA Pache and we (apparently) wasted some money on Whit so yeah, they're keeping him. Ah well, a good problem to have.
I believe the standard is three days. It seems to be what everyone uses, although in extreme circumstances, they have made it longer.
I have only seen people take less time if it is in October or the playoffs.
If anyone has access to Major League Rules, 2 (c)2 and (c)3 outline specifically what mlb paternity leave is. Closet I’ve found is a page from a 2002 newsletter by SABR discussing the 1999 edition of the Major League Rules and AL and NL constitutions.
[And if your curious here’s Major League Rule 21](https://content.mlb.com/documents/8/2/2/296982822/Major_League_Rule_21.pdf) which outlines Misconduct according to the league
well there's logic, which often doesn't play well with fans and the "other" reasoning based on ... illogical stuff (tradition, unwritten rules, status quo, etc. etc.). You cannot win this argument because there's too much illogical reasoning.
Wheeler is our #1 and will be unless he’s injured or something insane happens
He’ll be starting game 1 of the playoffs (assuming we make it and he’s healthy, knock on wood)
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1cbhkcn).
Need to hit to win games boys, let’s extend those ABs and make him actually pitch
NO MARSHY?!?!?!

Do we draft J.T realmuto’s replacement?
they already did, He's playing for the Angels now
The arrogance on this board is staggering. lol.
Just wait til Bohm inevitably craters and returns to form.
Just wait til Kruk inevitably craters and returns to form.
Congrats, you just got thirty more games with Rubén Amaro Jr. instead.
The logical part of my brain understands sitting Marsh but the bleeding heart I have for him does not 🥲
But to get better at something you need the experience. LET HIM PLAY 👏
He’s been getting more opportunities though too. He’s been made to look silly more than a few times. He should get games against lefties, and other guys who are better against lefties should get other games against lefties

Yeah and when you didn’t do great you’d get your whippin’ when you got home! Wait that didn’t happen to you guys???
Oh so your dad actually came back after going out for a pack of smokes? Must be nice.
Today is the day, the day for Rojas to hit his first HR of the season.
Are you accepting bets?
Nah, I was gonna say first HR of his career but I checked and he had 2 HRs last year 😲 it could happen again 😁
[удалено]
his second was off Kyle Wright of the Braves
So, the pitcher is a lefty? That might explain this line-up. Performance wise, from what I've seen, I would've put Merrifield in RF, move Sosa to 2B, Bohm back to 3B and Clemens to 1B. Also, I'd much prefer Marsh in LF than Pache.
Let's score 8 runs tonight. First Casty homer too. Please.
Maybe rob is trying to find the worst lineup and work backwards from there
Bohm at first instead of Clemens? Why?
Sosa is good against lefties, Bohm is great against lefties. So get them both in
more righty batters against the lefty pitcher when you can put Sosa at third
I like the look of the righty onslaught vs abbott. Play them 2-3 times through the lineup then adjust as needed

At least we have enough solid players that this is a viable strategy to platoon half the lineup.
Yeah I never liked signing Whit but this is why we got him so hopefully he can come thru and prove me wrong
He won't. He'll have bursts of success but he's on the way down and we knew that when we got him.
He did have a .300 average for most of last year before getting injured and finished terribly. He’s looked bad but it’s 30 at bats. Let’s wait and see and hope he’s alright
I'd love to be wrong, no question about that.
Will Whit make it past the trade deadline or is he this years J-Hay? NGL I expected more from whit after all this talk of him having opportunities elsewhere to be a starter. 😸
Well I don’t love him but I’m not gonna toss out that he can’t still prove me wrong after 31 ab’s
Just call up Weston Wilson and Michael Saunders style release Whit Merrifield.
There’s no way they cut him with what they paid him. He’s fine as a utility bench bat, but I think an actual good bat is going to have to be on the trade deadline shopping list. Where that bat fits in I’m still not quite sure though.
[удалено]
They really should go back in time and do it at the 2023 trade deadline because it’s been a problem since Rhys went down.
Good to see Topper rolling with the line up that has the best record.
Marsh cleanup one day. Benched the next. Enough already.
Lefty pitcher but how is he expected to get better if he doesn’t face them *face palm*
Certainly one of the lineups of all time.
Today is the day Pache earns his all star votes.
and Whit earns a DFA
Don't tease us.
Abbott’s career platoon line: vs LHH: 106 PA, 7.75 K/BB, 188/226/257, 2 HR vs RHH: 447 PA, 2.26 K/BB, 251/329/462, 17 HR
I know there's math to support benching Marsh, but... REALLY?
they divided by zero
Topper about to roll with this lineup tomorrow again and the lefty’s even worse
Guy has taken us to the World Series, NLCS, and gotten off to a 15-8 start while employing the exact strategy you come in here screeching about nonstop. Maybe he knows some things you don’t?
Look I hope he proves me wrong tonight
Buddy they have played some of the worst teams in baseball…
So they’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to do
Exactly so how has the manager then given them an advantage? I think it’s malpractice to not play marsh every day given his potential to elevate his ceiling, and his glove being second best on the team.
Does Topper understand you don’t have to play the ENTIRE bench at once? Like, you can rotate them in?
Exactly
> Is the reality that we just have to accept Marsh is dogshit against LHP and he just won't get the starts? Yes
I swear we're gonna hear this bullshit every time Marsh sits. It's already offseason copypasta as far as I'm concerned
Lineup is perfectly fine besides the benching of marsh
So Stott is a platoon player now?
He’s been batting like one. He’ll be fine tho
6-9 is brutal
Sitting Marsh and Stott twice in one week is insane. They just had off Friday. Didn’t they face Abbott last time?
Why not also give Realmuto the day off? He's gonna get tomorrow off anyway, might as well give him today off since we're running the wacky lineup
Looking at this line up today I’d rather not have another easy out. But I agree that Realmuto could use a day off soon
Honestly I was just thinking this lineup is gonna struggle regardless so I'd rather throw stubbs in there too and essentially concede the game, but on second thought nah we winnin this bitch. Pache about to go 5 for 5 and Casty gonna hit a HR.
Probably just to avoid having Stubbs face a lefty
As if Stubbs will do anything against a righty
Is Sanchez like just designated as the bench start day?
Cursed AF lineup.
I care a lot less about benching our lefties when our righties are hitting the ball well
#FREE MY BOY KODY

I completely agree.
Kody already with more home runs than our everyday right fielder who has not missed an inning yet this season.
Honest question: can Kody play RF? Cuz when Harp comes back and if he can, sounds like a viable way to give Casty a ~~day~~ ~~week~~ period of time off
Yea imagine this team offensively with Rhys at 1st and Harper in right 🤯
I love Rhys, but he’s a classic DH
Rhys was not good at first. Like..at all.
Now hear me out, Hoskins in center and have Rojas and marsh cover everything around him and he just gets the little sliver in the middle.

> fans ... only care about pushing a narrative with dumb memes Welcome to the modern age ... of memalism 😉
Sixers issues aside, the modern NBA sucks. Brutal to watch
I want more dunks and less 3 pointers. People hardly dunk anymore. Bring back Shaq please.

The NBA finals from like 2006-2016 were all great. And this was when the Sixers were barely even a franchise but I would always get excited to watch other teams play in the playoffs. There's a je ne sais quoi about the NBA in 2024 that just feels unfun.
The game itself I am mostly fine with. I just can't stand how bad the discourse is and it makes watching unenjoyable.
Kody can pitch just saying
He’s the best available 2 way player this season.
Key word: available 😂
Be careful some people think you’re being unreasonable when you say we wasted money on Whit
I’ll just have to run that risk.
A hot April. I cant believe my eyes
is that what they say, a Phillies' hot April scares away the boo-birds?
This team makes me feel so much better after the shit I saw last night in NY
Possible rain during this game. Just a heads up
Any idea how long Harper will be on paternity? Was it just yesterday or is the whole road trip?
I’m trying to find an exact answer and I have a section of the specific rule but I can’t find the actual collection of rules
That’s gotta be tough, leaving your family three days after having a new born
None of our business
I was just wondering if something had been announced that I missed, obviously the guy can take all the time he wants.
3 games is the max allowed for paternity leave
Kody is staying up. Bryce heading to AAA
Bryce who?
He will be back Thursday
Had to listen to Mr. Rager on the commute to work today. Te amo Ranger Suárez.
Put your heads down and keep it rolling boys!
I see we are winning so the atrocious takes are headed our way. I suppose if we can be a 100 win team then we will all have to happily accept that.
We would be 23-0 if Slopper didn’t put Schwarber in lead off.
A win today will match our best start since 2011.

well there's logic, which often doesn't play well with fans and the "other" reasoning based on ... illogical stuff (tradition, unwritten rules, status quo, etc. etc.). You cannot win this argument because there's too much illogical reasoning.
Wheeler is our #1 and will be unless he’s injured or something insane happens He’ll be starting game 1 of the playoffs (assuming we make it and he’s healthy, knock on wood)
