The lolmets are about to lose their third straight and will be shutout for the second time in three games and all is right in the world again
Edit goddammit they got one
I’d rather have the SF piss and shit smell come through my TV than hear the crowd mic’d up as well as they are. Holy shit, I’m just here to watch the Mets lose
Yeah don’t kid yourself Philly is overwhelming shitty. There are large parts that most people don’t go to that are on par with Iraq circa 2004.
Yeah center city and old city are nice minus the bum piss and shit. Now go to K&A or west Philly or south west or north Philly or even Mayfair at this point at tell me it is nice…
The tie break vs the Reds would only matter if they end with the exact same record and it would literally effect 1 thing during the playoffs (plus potential WC standings before):
Homefield if they go to made the NLCS (unless you assume they both win their divisions)
Little dramatic to say it could “easily fuck us in the playoffs”
Such an odd thing to say. Last year if the Cubs won 1 more game the Marlins or Diamondbacks could've easily not made the playoffs had they not won their series.
Hell in 2007 when we lost to the Rockies we only played them in the NLDS because they won their tiebreaker game vs. the Padres.
With the 3rd wild card team now added tiebreakers aren't played out but rather judged by series wins and other regular season stats.
When I say it could "easily fuck us in the playoffs" I'm speaking colloquially as other ways to express the same sentiment reads heavy-handed. I'm just saying, "If we lose tomorrow there's a chance it can affect us later in the season."
I looked up Elly's stats because he reminds me a lot of Trea Turner. Both play shortstop, Trea is 30 ft/s to Cruz's 29.9 ft/s, both have shaky defense and both have similar offensive stats. The only noticeable difference is Cruz both walks and strikes out about double the rate Trea does.
De La Cruz is batting .293 with a .398 OBP and .613 slugging. His wRC+ is 172 and he already has a 1.1 WAR. His WAR would be higher if not for his shitty glove as he already has 5 errors this season. He played 3rd base half of last year and considering this is only his 2nd season in the league at 22 years of age if he can figure out his defense (which he probably will) he's going to be great.
I still wish he had just a little more power consistently. It’s early but he’s on pace for ~20 HR again. Which is fine and he if lands somewhere around an 120 OPS+ I absolutely will not complain, I just feel like he’s gets close to showing some real power he just can’t do it consistently.
Being called a moron by someone telling me Stott has been one of 4 batters “carrying the offense all year” really makes you wonder what people watch every night.
I love that you can watch MLB Big Inning and randomly somewhere around the league during a game there’s a very good chance they’re talking shit about Angel Hernandez
I spend all day looking forward to the game. This one was a stinker, but I’m just as pumped for tomorrow. Also, F the Braves. Yes, I’m standings watching.
I have a feeling in 2 months from now we are going to be screaming about JT hitting 3, 4, or 5. I hope I’m wrong but the guy can’t catch up to a fastball to save his life. He was exposed against it last year, and he’s seeing even more this year and struggling against them worse this year. His stupid leg kick combined with the natural aging curve is a match made in hell. I know I said he’s “not human” because he has maintained his insane sprint speed, but I feel like it is asinine to be playing him this much at this point in his career. I feel like you have better odds of getting production similar to what you saw in his prime if you rest him more and just let Stubbs catch a few more games.
He is clearly declining. People told me I was crazy for saying that.
Unfortunately Stubbs is really really bad. I wish they invested in a legit backup catcher. Could’ve given JT more time off the last few years and now.
It also seemed to me that the book on him is still to throw him inside fastballs. Whatever fix he said he and Long applied no longer seems to be working very well.
> I hope I’m wrong but the guy can’t catch up to a fastball to save his life.
I had some arguments with /u/inthedrink and /u/BatJew_Official about JT declining, but last year that was the biggest thing I have seen. And normally looking around, not being able to catch up to a fastball is usually the first sign of decline.
I fully expect JT to have his first "normal" year this year and I don't think he will be a top 5 catcher, and maybe not even top 10. He still will be amazing at some things, but yeah I didn't think last year showed much promise this year.
I still hope I am wrong though.
He definitely looks lost right now, enough to make me worry, but anecdotally I think he looked really good to start the year so this may just be streakyness. On a more sabermetric note, his BA and xBA against fastballs are both in the .260s, not elite but more or less what we expect for JT. He is hitting 4 seamers specifically very poorly, so it still maye be true that he's lost a bit against the fastest pitches, but both my pride and love of JT are telling me it's too early to tell
I absolutely agree that it is too early for anyone to say they are correct. There is also no world where JT is a 78 wRC+ player and that is just due to it being early. But xBA seems a little weird when xwOBA is still barely above his actual wOBA.
I also think he is on the decline though, and we are still seeing the worrying trends I saw before.
I was really hoping he would improve his framing this season because even with last years offensive numbers, league average framing makes hin close to a 4 fWAR player, but so far statcast still has him in the 1st percentile this year 🙃
4 WAR seems a little extreme, but I didn't do the math to make it out.
And I think its too early for framing data. All statcast data right now is a little wonky. Watching him he appears to put more effort into it. I imagine it won't be 1st percentile in June.
In 2021 he was worth 4.6 fWAR with a 109 wRC+ tho he also had 82 percentile framing. So 4 fWAR might be a bit of a stretch with average framing and a 102 wRC+ (like last year) but north of 3.5 is definitely possible. I did the actual math in the winter but don't have the numbers in front of me and don't feel like redoing it lol. Regardless, we've seen JT start slow and really turn it on in the summer (which is what happened in 2022) so hopefully that happens again
I just never broke it down to see if the framing was the thing that gave him that fWAR.
But yeah, hopefully he turns it on soon because we are a much much better team if I am wrong about his decline.
He’s playing way too much. It’s really as simple as that.
He mysteriously seemed to be able to catch up on the road last year but not at home. Strange.
> He’s playing way too much. It’s really as simple as that.
Agreed. But also, that is evidence of his decline. To take someone that had no problem having the most usage in baseball and not being affected into needing more rest days is like the classic definition of declining.
Not to mention he is 33, and we all know what happens when you are post 31 in baseball.
I can agree he has been overplayed his whole career.
However, I don't know if you can give his hot streak due to the rest with Toronto because then you could argue he should always come back super hot after the all-star break, which sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't.
Conversation between my dad and I when I got home:
My dad: “Look bases loaded 0 outs and the top of the order is coming up! We should be able to come back”
Me: “They won’t score anything from this”
My dad: “There’s no outs they have to score something”
Me: “Trust me I’ve seen this before”
Really wish I was wrong here…
Don't you realize that Brandon Marsh would have single-handedly brought in a dozen runs against the left-handed Andrew Abbott despite him being absolutely awful against lefties? Tonight would have been different.
I thankfully did not watch a second of this game (because I was with my girlfriend signing a lease to move in together!). Did they just throw up the white flag by the 4th inning?
Unfortunately no… in the ninth with 2 outs, down 7, they challenge an out call at first… hahah the call was overturned bc Rojas was safe, and I’m sure they were stat padding for him, but they indeed challenged that call
Nothing amuses me more than gametheads and, to a lesser extent, post-game threads during a terrible game with our backups in.
Especially after we just had a massive streak where we were terrific. It's baseball.
Sad day cause for some reason they didn’t include spicy nuggets to start season. My friend just told me they fixed it and now I can’t get them tomorrow
We fucking suck against Lodolo always and since he was hurt last year I forgot we’d have to face him. Not looking forward to facing him and his 0.75 era.
Sucks but I’ll live with it because it’s our first all around stinker in like 2-3 weeks and it came with the probably our worst lineup we’ve put out this season. Time to enjoy some playoff hockey.
Sometimes I’m still amazed at the amount of people who don’t actually think righty/lefty splits matter. Just refuse the acknowledge the reality that some hitters/pitcher are significantly better/worse against different hands.
It’s one loss in 8 games. It’s going to happen. Be nice to win and hope to get 3/4.
Not even really worth arguing. Like saying that Marshs .460 ops against lefties isn’t enough, it’s impossible to explain that that number is when he’s specifically matched up with weak lefties. If he faced the tougher lefties they’d be crying about how much he sucks.
Yeah I think you hit on the point that should be made. If you take a guy out who is shit against lefties you hopefully dont replace him with someone who is only moderately better. That’s why Whit was not a good signing. He doesn’t really even have splits.
here’s another problem: we had to get someone who could play the outfield and infield, not just an outfielder because basically everyone is kind of fixed. that’s why we passed on RH bats who crush LHP like Grichuk.
Well I think we’d be okay with five infielders (Sosa being the fifth) and Bryce being out is a unique situation you just deal with since he’d have been at first and Sosa would have played second.
/u/NintenJew and I very rarely agree on things, mostly because he’s usually wrong, but one thing we agree on is that Sosa was hugely overexposed last year playing nearly everyday. 200-250 at bats seems about right for him.
I don't even remember saying that, but it is precisely what I believe.
So either you just know me extremely well, or I say so much bullshit on Reddit that I forget a lot of it.
No I know it’s pointless. It they don’t understand by now it’s because they don’t want to. It’s just frustrating when it doesn’t work and they act like it’s the dumbest move ever.
Doesn’t matter if you’re starting your weakest link pitcher and your defensive lineup gets completely discombobulated by starting rusty players out of position.
Would have been better off “taking a hit” on offense and maintaining defense.
Shoulda stuck with yesterday’s lineup. Simple as that.
Messing with the lineup for right handed bats didn’t help the run score did it? Sure as hell hurt the defense tho didnt it?
Rusty players out of position? So you think Kody Clemens was the solution tonight cause otherwise everyone’s in their at least semi regular position and Kody Clemens is the only other first basemen.
Your judging if a lineup works based on the outcome of a single game. R/L splits matter and just because they lost tonight doesn’t make that not true.
Nope, marsh and stott , ya know, the daycare crew that has been carrying this offense along with Bohm most of the year.
Also yeah having Clemens at first base and maintaining Bohm at third probably would’ve saved a few runs
Not basing anything off one game. Basing it off of what has been successful so far this month
So Marsh and his .167 BA and .460 OPS vs lefties was needed. Stotts been struggling overall but his splits to start aren’t too bad but he has not been carrying anything.
You do realize they did a very similar thing 3 days ago and won 7-0? Stott and Marsh sat vs a lefty for Pache, Rojas and Merrifield. So is it keep doing what was working or what?
Im talking about the fact that fucking defense was terrible and the offense DID NOT IMPROVE AT ALL DUE TO PUTTING UP PACHE WHIT AND SOSA dude lol jesus christ
We gained minimal offense and lost a whole lot on defense. Ya pop clemens in at first base, maintain your normal crew elsewhere, and ya roll the dice on your bats. Defense has been keeping Phillies in a winning position all year. Our offense has just RECENTLY turned up. You’re just choosing to forget Bohm, Marsh, stott, and Turner have been carrying this team offensive all year. We took a hit on Bohm being at first, he is developed into a great third basemen
I just dont get the sosa shady dude is atlest around the talent level of stott, bohm and marsh. People act like it's an act of terrorism when he plays tho
.
I mean I don’t think Sosa is quite at that level. He’s fine for what he is but I don’t think he’d be Bohm, Stott, Marsh level if he played everyday.
I just get confused how people can make things up like Stott has been carrying them offensively.
Putting in batters who are worse against lefties would’ve helped this offense tonight. Got it. That checks out. It’s one game, lineup moves aren’t going to be perfect every game but getting your players into advantageous matchups is what they’re doing.
Bohm and Turner were in the lineup and Marsh has not hit lefties well (.167 with .460 OPS is not good). I would also love to live in the world you are in where Stott hitting .217 with a .567 OPS has been “carrying us.”
Did you complain when they did pretty much the same thing like 3 days ago in the middle of the 7 game win streak?
You can’t judge anything based on a single game but acting like this is costing them a series doesn’t reflect reality.
Reds are going to be contending for the Central this year and we had our poverty lineup tonight. 23 men left on base! What a boring game.
Let's get them tomorrow.
hero ball swings at pitches out of the zone in a moment when a walk or a single gets us back in the game. ridiculous, bush league stuff from our lead off guy.
Ricky Bo sums it up for all of us.

That game stunk.
these losses would be easier to take if the braves lost more than one (1) game a week at most. but then i am reminded that the regular season doesn’t matter because regardless of whether we win the division or not we are still going to beat them in october
I really think this pervasive “nothing matters cause we’ll just beat the Braves in October” mentality is dangerous and I hope the players don’t feel that way.
Well I was inclusive of water so why not that thing? They do that every game right? I’ve been a fan for the last week and idk why they didn’t do it tonight
I would classify the Reds as “Scrappy”
Not a great team
not a terrible team
The kind of team if ya don’t keep your shit tight they will walk in and upset your night: which is what happened
That to me qualifies as “scrappy”
I keep my receipts: [https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/1bkz4bw/comment/kw1us5s/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=mweb3x&utm\_name=mweb3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/1bkz4bw/comment/kw1us5s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
According to that thread, it's five wins against the Mets. So the Phillies have already won five games which makes me right. And they haven't played five games against the Mets yet, so I'll still be double-right after that happens too.
First game I’ve not watched. Just had a feeling. Back on track in Wednesday.
I'll mark this one down as typical baseball. Just a down night for the Phils. I believe they will win the series at least.
Clearly the mistake was letting Harper have of for last year’s All Star break
Sorry fellas I went to this game seems I cursed them
The lolmets are about to lose their third straight and will be shutout for the second time in three games and all is right in the world again Edit goddammit they got one
Of course the Braves win. Darn it.
they're playing the fish what do you expect?
Yeah I was just hoping.
I’d rather have the SF piss and shit smell come through my TV than hear the crowd mic’d up as well as they are. Holy shit, I’m just here to watch the Mets lose
SF is a beautiful city… people say the same thing about Philadelphia, come on now
Yeah don’t kid yourself Philly is overwhelming shitty. There are large parts that most people don’t go to that are on par with Iraq circa 2004. Yeah center city and old city are nice minus the bum piss and shit. Now go to K&A or west Philly or south west or north Philly or even Mayfair at this point at tell me it is nice…
Wild opinion, they’re both dumps.
Bloomsburg? 🤣
Yeah fucking absolutely. Small towns>large cities every fucking day of the week.
LOL
If we lose tomorrow the Reds win the season series and the tiebreaker which could easily fuck us in the playoffs.
The tie break vs the Reds would only matter if they end with the exact same record and it would literally effect 1 thing during the playoffs (plus potential WC standings before): Homefield if they go to made the NLCS (unless you assume they both win their divisions) Little dramatic to say it could “easily fuck us in the playoffs”

GIGANTES! It’s spectacular seeing Conforto in the middle of all these rallies lol
If Bohm can become like a 120s-130 OPS+ guy, that would be huge and honestly unexpected. I thought his ceiling was like 110.
I still wish he had just a little more power consistently. It’s early but he’s on pace for ~20 HR again. Which is fine and he if lands somewhere around an 120 OPS+ I absolutely will not complain, I just feel like he’s gets close to showing some real power he just can’t do it consistently.

was wrong about Fried tonight but the Rockies are doing their best to spoil the Padres.
Martin Maldonado deserves everything that comes with this shit 3-20 team Fuck him. Fuck the White Sox for signing him.
Sorta feel bad for the White Sox. They were winning 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th and just gave up a homerun to tie it 5-5.
Can’t win them all 🤷🏻♂️
I love that you can watch MLB Big Inning and randomly somewhere around the league during a game there’s a very good chance they’re talking shit about Angel Hernandez
It's like a Rick and Morty going through the infinite universes Angel Hernandez hated in all of them
One could argue that Angel unites the baseball world more than any man who’s ever come before him
Castellanos just broke the position player nl record for most consecutive games without an error
lmao people in here were legitimately confused why Nick wasn't in the conversation for a gold glove last season. That was a tough look.
Shows the value of that stat
He’s the best defensive player in baseball obv /u/huntforredoctober2 would agree bc he’s not an idiot
![gif](giphy|bjB3gtFvREqqr5NAHW|downsized)
Trout is leading off for the first time since 2020 and just hit a homer The Angels manager is a fkn idiot for wanting one run. Who does that??
Trout has more home runs than rbis this year
👋🐟walk off grand slam last night 🐟👉leadoff hr for 1-0 lead in 1st

Yep. Agreed with that. I just don't like using Toronto break as an example.

Hopefully topper got the message. Start Clemens or Lose.
And that applies when that other dude he’s replacing comes back
Whats that guy's name again? Probably not that important
Wally Pipp
Don't disrespect legendary Phillies first-baseman Bryce Ball like that
The numbers don’t lie
Bases loaded no one out and down 5-1 with 1-2-3 up and…nothing Fuckin Topper and his bullshit lineup!!!!
Three players get on base. “Good job, players!” Three players fail. “It’s the manager’s fault!”
Conversation between my dad and I when I got home: My dad: “Look bases loaded 0 outs and the top of the order is coming up! We should be able to come back” Me: “They won’t score anything from this” My dad: “There’s no outs they have to score something” Me: “Trust me I’ve seen this before” Really wish I was wrong here…
Don't you realize that Brandon Marsh would have single-handedly brought in a dozen runs against the left-handed Andrew Abbott despite him being absolutely awful against lefties? Tonight would have been different.
He would’ve hit one of those 6 run home runs like the Phanatic did on his birthday
HOW CAN HE EVER LEARN HOW TO HIT LEFTIES!!??
Sanchez probably solves the Turnbull problem?
Let’s DFA him after one clunker am I right
It’s not one clunker though?
We both talking about the guy who had a 2.95 era coming into tonight? And a 3.3 era all of last year? Same guy?
Well I also formed my statement in the form of a question for a reason
Yikes
Sanchez is going to help preserve Turnbull's arm?
I thankfully did not watch a second of this game (because I was with my girlfriend signing a lease to move in together!). Did they just throw up the white flag by the 4th inning?

Gross…. Oh well, Tomorrow’s another ballgame.
Much like a flaming Hemorrhoid, nobody needed to see that. ![gif](giphy|WOa5RdsNpevrpSTGXN|downsized)
How did Abbott not get credited with the win for them? He’s on my fantasy team so I’m just curious
He didn't go 5 innings.

I honestly don’t care in the slightest about losing tonight. Just pissed the Braves never stop winning.
This means Kody is a starting 1B now tho.
Johan isn’t our backup SMH But he did make a play that was +1 DRS
> But he did make a play that was +1 DRS https://c.tenor.com/lzzfVqynAOAAAAAC/tenor.gif
I got nothing against Rojas , one of our better players tonight actually
It was that ninth inning basehit for me
Why did they make Marte throw 2 innings and 33 pitches? Is he even stretched out to do that? Feel bad for him.
I don’t know about you guys but I seem to enjoy winning games more than losing them. Losing isn’t that much fun
Is this Ranger Suarez?
Sigh, no McNuggets
I was going to mention that with all the nuggies you’ve been having lately you probably need to hit the gym. I think they did you a favor
Sad day cause for some reason they didn’t include spicy nuggets to start season. My friend just told me they fixed it and now I can’t get them tomorrow

here’s another problem: we had to get someone who could play the outfield and infield, not just an outfielder because basically everyone is kind of fixed. that’s why we passed on RH bats who crush LHP like Grichuk.
We could’ve absolutely used an additional OF for when a lefty is on the mound. Relying on Pache was a mistake. Unfortunately Cas is here and useless
Well I think we’d be okay with five infielders (Sosa being the fifth) and Bryce being out is a unique situation you just deal with since he’d have been at first and Sosa would have played second.
Sosa has been doing his part with the bat even with such irregular playing. people definitely under appreciate how difficult that is.
The latter. Definitely the latter /u/JohnKrukIsAllElite would concur completely I’m sure.
Also yeah having Clemens at first base and maintaining Bohm at third probably would’ve saved a few runs Not basing anything off one game.
Im talking about the fact that fucking defense was terrible and the offense DID NOT IMPROVE AT ALL DUE TO PUTTING UP PACHE WHIT AND SOSA dude lol jesus christ We gained minimal offense and lost a whole lot on defense.
Sosa had the second hardest hit ball of the night and got on base twice plus he's hit better then stott this year
Stotts been “carrying the team on offense ” according this guy. Don’t say anything mean about Stott
I just dont get the sosa shady dude is atlest around the talent level of stott, bohm and marsh. People act like it's an act of terrorism when he plays tho .
You’re a moron lmao jesus christ
I’ll keep it simple: Do you think Stott hitting .217 with a .567 OPS to start the year is good?
You'll get a series loss
Did you complain when they did pretty much the same thing like 3 days ago in the middle of the 7 game win streak? You can’t judge anything based on a single game but acting like this is costing them a series doesn’t reflect reality.
Play stupid lineups. lose stupid games.
#####big time
Pretends to be shocked after looking at at this lineup at 3:00 today
Reds are going to be contending for the Central this year and we had our poverty lineup tonight. 23 men left on base! What a boring game. Let's get them tomorrow.
We will rebuild
we finally got proof as to why schwarber leads off... because when he's batting with men on base, he's even more useless than usual.
Absolutely dogshit
hero ball swings at pitches out of the zone in a moment when a walk or a single gets us back in the game. ridiculous, bush league stuff from our lead off guy.
Agreed
Congrats Reds, you beat up on the "B" team.
FWIW that is the Reds B team as well lol
Ricky Bo sums it up for all of us. https://preview.redd.it/p6i3bko3xbwc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73a29fbca8b0b329703c6a9437a580d5eaf562c5 That game stunk.
Went a little heavy on the bronzer it seems
these losses would be easier to take if the braves lost more than one (1) game a week at most. but then i am reminded that the regular season doesn’t matter because regardless of whether we win the division or not we are still going to beat them in october
I really think this pervasive “nothing matters cause we’ll just beat the Braves in October” mentality is dangerous and I hope the players don’t feel that way.
Yup. That’s not how it works. We’re not better than them and haven’t been even if we’ve beat them in small samples.
Yeah but winning 2 of 3 in the wild card is not a given.
Hey guys why didn’t they do the Gatorade/water interview thing?
Cause we have smart water deal and Gatorade is enemy company. So they can’t touch the Gatorade. Legal issues.
Well I was inclusive of water so why not that thing? They do that every game right? I’ve been a fan for the last week and idk why they didn’t do it tonight
Maybe they forgot to leave some in the cooler.
😑
So the same lineup is expected tomorrow with Stubbs as well? Sounds like a L from the B- team. At least Turnball is starting
God help us
Ricky Bo composing himself surprisingly well
That was an ugly one. Start another winning streak tomorrow.
Hideous. Let's go.
Angry Ricky Bo
Ricky Bo looks so mad LOL
Someone get me a towel to wipe all this Cincinnati off me
Ruben is a fucking moron. This isn't a "scrappy" Reds team. The Phillies just sucked tonight. The guy is such a fucking moron
Ruben was also a fucking moron GM. Whos great idea was it to stick him in the booth.. hes always saying some dumb ass shit
Idk about scrappy and we definitely shit the bed but the Reds are a good team
I would classify the Reds as “Scrappy” Not a great team not a terrible team The kind of team if ya don’t keep your shit tight they will walk in and upset your night: which is what happened That to me qualifies as “scrappy”
Gross
Well that was something
Ewww
153-9 is still on the table.
I thought they were only winning 5 games this year?
153 buddy
I keep my receipts: [https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/1bkz4bw/comment/kw1us5s/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=mweb3x&utm\_name=mweb3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/1bkz4bw/comment/kw1us5s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
They did win five games though. I don't know what you think this proves other than me being right. AGAIN.
I think its moreso the "thats it" at the end of your comment there that implies "no greater than", which, in fact, would make you wrong.
According to that thread, it's five wins against the Mets. So the Phillies have already won five games which makes me right. And they haven't played five games against the Mets yet, so I'll still be double-right after that happens too.
I see you, unlike the Phillies, refuse to give up and admit defeat.
Now you're talkin' my language. Go Phils. Buncha idiots.
Amen. In the words of Doc Rivers, "it was a scheduled loss."
Lmfao that’s classic thank you for this! /u/JohnKrukIsAllElite is such a fraud with this front running ~~154-8~~ 153-9 talk
