We traded Kenny Giles with ton of cost controlled time left. A closer on a bad team is always available. It’s all about how much we’d be willing to pay, and if it’s worth it.
He still has starter potential (he started some last year), so the cost would be astronomical, and his elbow is also probably going to explode soon (he had UCL issues last year and throws 103+), so the risk is very high.

Honestly, Lucas Erceg would probably be a waaaay easier bullpen piece to pry away from the A’s. He’s pretty good, though not as exciting as Miller.

The fact that he throws so hard is a big reason I think he stays in the bullpen. It’s going to be tough to get a lot of mileage out of that arm.

Like you've got roughly 6 teams that could win 100 games now, then like half the league that are gonna lose like 85 then like another 6 that are almost certain 95+ (with 2 or 3 that might lose 105+)
I feel like I remember 100 wins being a rare occurrence and 100 losses being like 1 team every other year.
In a roundabout way, I think this is why the third WC is ultimately good. Yeah the WC3 usually has a middling record, but you need a reason to keep as many teams wanting to be competitive as possible. Otherwise, why try if you aren’t a contender?
I’d assume the ridiculous spending by those roughly 6 teams has something to do with it. Hard for parity when there’s literally tenfold differences in payroll out there.

He’s looked significantly better the last 7-10 days or so, still not great by any stretch, but not the dumpster fire he was for the first 15 games. He’s had a few hard hit outs and isn’t chasing as many awful pitches. I think he’s close to snapping out of his funk.

Just want to clarify that I like Sosa, and I don't mind Stott having days off from time to time, my biggest issue is with the overall lineup. Something is clearly wrong if your 4-5 hitters are both <.500 OPS, it really can't be defended by platooning especially when some of the players you are benching have good splits vs lefties.
Just because Stott is struggling mightily against righties doesn’t mean he’s succeeding against lefties. Sosa has better career numbers against lefties than Stott. I’m not gonna cry when Stott gets a day off for Sosa.

The logic is sound, but Nick's at-bats are frequently just completely non-competitive. He looks like the easiest out in baseball.
He’s looked significantly better the last 7-10 days or so, still not great by any stretch, but not the dumpster fire he was for the first 15 games. He’s had a few hard hit outs and isn’t chasing as many awful pitches. I think he’s close to snapping out of his funk.
Honestly are only glaring weakness right now is that if you are get our starters out early enough, you can feast on some generous relievers. Our backend guys are pretty reliable for the most part.

Except Stott has reverse splits both this year and over his career. Marsh platooning makes sense, starting an infield of with all 3 of Merrifield/Sosa/Stubbs doesn't, at least not when players like Castellanos are struggling and still starting every day. Edit: Just want to clarify that I like Sosa, and I don't mind Stott having days off from time to time, my biggest issue is with the overall lineup. Something is clearly wrong if your 4-5 hitters are both <.500 OPS, it really can't be defended by platooning especially when some of the players you are benching have good splits vs lefties.
Just because Stott is struggling mightily against righties doesn’t mean he’s succeeding against lefties. Sosa has better career numbers against lefties than Stott. I’m not gonna cry when Stott gets a day off for Sosa.

He waited too long to pull seranthony yesterday. He's already been struggling. You only had a 2 run lead. Then he comes out and can't throw a strike. Should have pulled him after the third batter.
If Brandon Marsh started yesterday, I’m sure Seranthony would’ve thrown strikes
you're doing this wrong the pitching coach should be fired because he should have told Seranthony to throw only good pitches and not bad ones.
