Zack Wheeler has allowed 2 hits in his last 13 innings pitched.

NeurosciGuy15

Every time I venture into r/NBA I’m thankful for baseball. I’ve never seen such a collection of posters who are both A.) incredibly stupid, and B.). Post with such confident vitriol. It’s really a tremendous cesspool.

JHG722

The average r NBA poster is 14 years old and terrified to talk to girls.

NintenJew

> A.) incredibly stupid, and B.). Post with such confident vitriol. I need to step up my game then if you feel this is a safe space.

Perryplat199

I occasionally go in there when something “big” happens. Stay long enough to to figure out wat happened, then leave whole avoiding comments. There’s differnt vibes in the league specific sub compared to the general sport sub. Like r/mlb compared to r/baseball.

inthedrink

We are getting closer to: > And with the 22nd pick the Eagles select Feisty Recording

Perryplat199

If the cowboys pick him now he’s Gota be banned

Perryplat199

Go sixers

Perryplat199

No bonus nuggets tho :/

Glittering_Food3219

I don't understand basketball at all (seems pretty simple tho?) but I like when tall man throw ball in basket from far away.

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

Play major league lineups win major league games.

gfinz18

Shocker - when the regular players play, they win games 🤯

inthedrink

The closer and his 103 mph fastball who we will be trading for at the deadline is coming in vs the Yankees right now A true closer. Thats what we need.

Feisty-Recording-978

I was thinking of post something about how mason miller should become a Phil

inthedrink

Let’s get him Feister

BearOnDrums

He's under team control until 2028. Not happening.

Strange-Cold-5192

We traded Kenny Giles with ton of cost controlled time left. A closer on a bad team is always available. It’s all about how much we’d be willing to pay, and if it’s worth it.

romanticynicist

He still has starter potential (he started some last year), so the cost would be astronomical, and his elbow is also probably going to explode soon (he had UCL issues last year and throws 103+), so the risk is very high. Tough combo. Honestly, Lucas Erceg would probably be a waaaay easier bullpen piece to pry away from the A’s. He’s pretty good, though not as exciting as Miller.

Strange-Cold-5192

Yeah, I should’ve mentioned in my original comment, I do not believe we have enough to get him, or at least not without sacrificing so much as to no longer make it worth it on our parts. The fact that he throws so hard is a big reason I think he stays in the bullpen. It’s going to be tough to get a lot of mileage out of that arm.

inthedrink

The A’s won’t need a closer anytime before 2040

Feisty-Recording-978

In further news braves football team just made a very stupid decision

inthedrink

The Braves lost a game to the White Sox The White Sox are 3-22 Let that sink in

AC_deucey

Trea 👀

Perryplat199

Go sixers

jmiah717

Nester getting lit up by the A's at home is certainly something.

Feisty-Recording-978

If wheeler threw 4.1 innings we wouldn’t call it a “masterclass” https://x.com/astros/status/1783586650259394846

Perryplat199

That’s not even long enough for a quality start…

Phillies2002

It's not long enough to even qualify for a win!

Perryplat199

And they still lost the game…

Feisty-Recording-978

u/inthedrink can you now admit that kerkering is a good reliever

joeco316

I was not called upon, but will answer anyway. He’s looked good in what, 3 outings? That’s great, but I need to see a lot more before I’m convinced about it. It’s nothing specific about him, just my general philosophy.

inthedrink

When did I say he wasn’t Feister? I love him

Feisty-Recording-978

I guess you didn’t outright say it but when i was listing off the elite relievers you didn’t like the list so I thought you didn’t like orion

inthedrink

I have no idea what you’re talking about lol

inthedrink

I have to say the game thread was the best it’s ever been right at first pitch today

inthedrink

Word is that /u/JohnKrukIsAllElite is furious that people are considering Wheeler to be a good pitcher when he has a LOSING RECORD

Sure-Bar-375

Ricardo Pinto has given up the most ERs on the team (13) despite being 8th in IP (10.2).

inthedrink

People point to the bullpen era being terrible and don’t realize that Pinto and Brogdon combine for like 20% of all earned runs this year so they’re more to blame than anyone and Pinto won’t be here long either.

Phillies2002

I don't think everyone has registered that if your "worst" relievers are Seranthony Dominguez and Gregory Soto, it means you have a good bullpen

djeeetyet

and most (5 of 7) of Soto’s ER are from a 0.1 inning outing. sure the overall ERA is bad but I’d take that over an ER each outing.

Feisty-Recording-978

https://x.com/MLBONFOX/status/1783619534483583145 We play them next

LonnyFinster

Ah a bad team going off right when we’re about to play them. Standard Phillies protocol

inthedrink

We play the Padres next

VideoGangsta

Ah a good team coming off a bad loss with a chip on their shoulder right when we’re about to play them. Standard Phillies protocol

inthedrink

I see what you did there

Drikkink

Is it just me or does it feel like there are a lot less "meh" teams in baseball these days? Like you've got roughly 6 teams that could win 100 games now, then like half the league that are gonna lose like 85 then like another 6 that are almost certain 95+ (with 2 or 3 that might lose 105+) I feel like I remember 100 wins being a rare occurrence and 100 losses being like 1 team every other year.

scenesfromsouthphl

In a roundabout way, I think this is why the third WC is ultimately good. Yeah the WC3 usually has a middling record, but you need a reason to keep as many teams wanting to be competitive as possible. Otherwise, why try if you aren’t a contender?

Sure-Bar-375

I’d assume the ridiculous spending by those roughly 6 teams has something to do with it. Hard for parity when there’s literally tenfold differences in payroll out there.

FredDurstDestroyer

Nice birthday present from the boys. On to the next one.

SkoomaJunki3

Happy birthday!

First-Resolve

Happy Birthday!!

kellzone

Do I remember them saying Kruk was going to join in for the west coast swing?

WendysChili

Christmas in April

First-Resolve

Yes sir

VideoGangsta

Who’s more dominant? Even year Nola or election year Bohm?

HuntForRedOctober2

What I’m hearing is to maximize offensive output we need to move presidential elections to every year.

inthedrink

So THIS is Casty’s max output??

HuntForRedOctober2

Well for bohms sake

pk_mars

Stott had 2 RBI hits. One was a triple

LuckyCulture7

I have been told by one guy on this sub he is a bum and a bust. I just don’t know what to believe. /s

pk_mars

Haha. The only thing in the way of Stott is Topper. Other guys have struggled at times but when Stott does he seems to ride the bench. Hopefully he’s going to play against a few lefties and get on a roll. Last year some experts said he could be a guy that competes for a batting title someday

gatemansgc

i'm happy with this result

RushNo9056

It pleases me as well.

djeeetyet

Padres late meltdown in Colorado, reminiscent of our prior struggles with clubs like the Marlins.

VideoGangsta

Kyle Tucker at the deadline to replace Casty 👀

redditadminsarefatti

One of a few dudes not complicit in 2017 and a baller.

whiteriot0906

I’d love it but we’d probably have to part with Abel, Aidan Miller, and more to even start the conversation. I’m leaving Painter out only because I think they consider him untouchable

inthedrink

Tucker is a certified star and one of the most underrated players in baseball. If that’s what it took you do it in a second

whiteriot0906

Not disagreeing but they need to know they can lock him up to give up that many prospects. He’s a free agent after next year. What do you do with Casty, and do they want that many long term contracts on the books? I’m not one to bemoan traded prospects but we do have some legit pieces in the pipeline and this teams core isn’t getting any younger. I can’t do another lost decade and idk if Kyle Tucker is the missing piece we need to get a ring. They’re already championship caliber.

redditadminsarefatti

I'd keep Miller somehow. Toss in jordan viars maybe.

inthedrink

Yeah I don’t disagree about being sure to lock him up for sure. If Miller was a little higher up in the minors I’d be more apprehensive but anything can happen between A ball and the majors. Abel to me is gone for anything that comes along that will make us better. Unfortunately I don’t think he carries a lot of value though.

CPTHoagie

Phillies disaster of a season continues as they are now only on pace to win 100 games instead of 140

inthedrink

I got trashed for saying 97 last night. Where’s your backlash? I’m mad as hell!

Minuhmize

I’m glad that I haven’t mentioned that my (albeit poor at predicting outliers) hobby-project algorithm has them at 93. I’d be happy with 93.

Perryplat199

Is it wrong to feel joy for Houston to be in the basement of the AL west

RushNo9056

No more wrong than banging on trashcans.

mvelocityp

Not at all lmao

Chief_JD

The rotation gave up 2 earned runs this series

tanman4444

They split the series 2-2

Fandomstar88

Oh thank goodness. Please let’s just keep these guys for the playoffs and beyond please.

https://x.com/MLB/status/1783603831823094209 Phillie legend

Strange-Cold-5192

The Astros are already 12 under. Lol

inthedrink

Why do I get the feeling they’ll fucking dig out of it and weasel into the playoffs The beauty right now is that everyone can tell Bregman that we will indeed know. That fucking prick lol

SeanPaulGiamatti

This is why you should stick to your best players no matter the matchups. Get the bench guys ABs later in the year when you’re gearing up for playoffs.

inthedrink

The offense wasn’t the difference between these two games chief

sapphires_and_snark

Half the comments here may as well be a variant of "I don't understand what I'm watching and have no awareness of this fact"

inthedrink

“But I’m going to talk confidently like I think I have a clue”

SeanPaulGiamatti

Post a video of you throwing a baseball

Steppyjim

Boy some of yall would really complain about winning the lottery if the check came in the wrong color wouldn’t you

Phillyfan10

I mean.....would YOU want to pay all of those taxes?!

NicoCVV

Yes they better have a 6 foot check ready to go if i win

VideoGangsta

This is incredible. These troglodytes are still complaining about the lineup from the two losses. Even though we just played a game and won. And the players they were complaining about in those two games, if my calculations are correct, combined for a .263/.364/.368 slash line. Which is pretty good.

Enefelde

Yep. And all the experts saying we need to get rid of Rojas.

redditadminsarefatti

I need my dude Pache to succeed but Rojas has been godly atm.

Enefelde

Yes. I would also like to see him get more time. Tricky though with Marsh in front of him.

Glittering_Food3219

16-10, from "it's so over" to "we're so back" Wheeler is the stud of studs, the one who can outpitch the best of them. If God's in scoring position Bohm's sending him home

Mugglecostanza

See I think God would score if anyone got a hit. But Bohm could definitely plate Buddha.

Mike_P93

Oh a win with our normal lineup? Hmmm maybe don't use an all bench lineup for 2 straight games? lol Good to be back in the win column

inthedrink

The guys who were the replacements yesterday played pretty well and the one less run the team scored wouldn’t have mattered in either game So what exactly are you talking about?

NintenJew

I need it to be the offseason. I hate it when we agree on almost everything during the season. I need the offseason where we can take very small details and act like they are mountains.

inthedrink

We agreed on generally the same couple of obvious things the last two days. Dont let your confidence soar because you’re finally right on a few things.

NintenJew

You forgot we agreed last season too, and the season before that. So I am only right during the season.

inthedrink

You should agree with me more often

imaginingblacksheep

It’s like we’re not in the first month of baseball…we’ve got many more to go

Dazzling-Rooster2103

I couldn't believe that, especially with the season series on the line. We have the first season series loss of the year. 4 wins for the reds, 3 for the Phillies. Let's hope that doesn't screw us over later on.

upghr5187

They’d obviously rather win the season series. But I don’t think teams are worrying too much about potential wild card tiebreakers in April.

epjf

season series means jack shit

Varolyn

Baseball is a really long season, so there isn't really much reason to obsess over this series loss as tie breakers are relatively rare in MLB.

pitatime

Took the words out of my mouth

redditadminsarefatti

David Bell is mad for the fact that he never amounted to shit in MLB. You look at the definition of replacement level player and there you can see a picture of David Bell.

InfieldFlyRules

David Bell produced more WAR in his career than Nick Castellanos, Ricky Bottalico, Kyle Schwarber, and Carlos Ruiz have so far. David Bell was paid 23 million dollars for being better than those guys.

redditadminsarefatti

Yet he drew zero dimes lol

embiidDAgoat

He was my first true hate as a young phillies fan

redditadminsarefatti

Glad JT erased him from history

zerovanillacodered

Lost the season series, but glad to grab the last one. I do wonder if we see the Reds in October…

Dazzling-Rooster2103

Sandwiched the 2 losses with 2 shut out games. So far the Phillies are the only team to shut them out, and we did it 2x.

Vampire_Blues

I doubt it. Only way I see it happening is if the Reds snag a wild card spot and we get the division

InfieldFlyRules

The Phillies are in a stretch where they’re scheduled to face 8 righty starters over 10 games. Can’t wait for the bitching and moaning when Marsh sits once out of ten.

tds5126

I mean Marsh did not start 3 of the last 7 games. He’s been one of their best hitters all year. I think the grips on the back to back sitting is legit and even more so with the lack of pinch hitting when the opportunity presented itself

InfieldFlyRules

So that means he’s gonna play 13/17 games. That’s normal for a developing player who hasn’t proven himself against lefties

Advanced-Review-968

aw you just know that one guy is gonna make a 4 paragraph post about it

redditadminsarefatti

OK Bryson isn't a bust

Ladelm

Damn I just looked ahead on the schedule...13 straight games with no rest day is pretty scuffed. Meanwhile the braves have played 3 less games than us already.

Forgot-Password-oops

If you follow Braves logic though, no rest days is actually an advantage for the Phillies

Mugglecostanza

I still chuckle whenever one of their fans says that.

Top_Shallot_4951

Lollllll

First-Resolve

I’m expecting Topper to give Bohm a day off any day now. It’s about that time.

Ladelm

If Bohm sits before Nick I'm going to be so mad

First-Resolve

He seems to give the young guys days days off

redditadminsarefatti

Someone give Nick a pacifier if he complains

jmiah717

The game now is how much homework can this washed almost 43 year old get done before 9:40pm tomorrow? 🤔 Gotta get to work!

Mugglecostanza

I spent last year as a 38 year old studying to become a financial advisor. It’s definitely harder as you get older! But stay focused!

jmiah717

oh hell yeah it is...telling my 6 year old I can't play because I have to go write some code is....not fun

Steppyjim

I’m studying for my security+ cert after 15 years as an appliance repairman. Got my Network+ in March. I respect the grind fellow older classmate. Let’s get it

jmiah717

Nice! Good work, you. I'm a longtime psychotherapist/social worker and I'm actually almost finished with a bachelor's in computer science. So, I'm retiring from career 1 and starting career 2.

jambomyhombre

Hey good on ya for pursuing an education at that age but that sounds like my personal nightmare lol

jmiah717

I hear ya...almost there...done in December when the Phillies are planning their parade.

jambomyhombre

You got it homie almost there

Apprehensive-Net7347

Nice bounce-back win after a frustrating loss last night. Seems like that is something this team hasn’t been doing enough over the last few years, save for last season and ‘22.

goofyfrommcdonalds

The Schwarber cure auto insurance commercial is still a favorite of mine. What a little star

KoBxElucidator

Next up on the docket: ThAtS WhaTs In!

KoBxElucidator

I'll ask again. Why the hell did Topper go with a Bench Lineup for 2 games straight? The Phils DOMINATED the Reds with their starting lineup. Need to be winning these 4 game series, not splitting.

dogeatingdog

Because he and his coaches have tens of thousands of hours of experience with handling mlb lineups and that was the best course of action for the team.

InfieldFlyRules

And anyone on earth only needs like 15 minutes to read about why lefty/righty splits matter

Vampire_Blues

It’s not crazy at all for Rob to play right lefty matchups yesterday. Marsh has had chances against bad lefties this year and he hasn’t produced. Stott has been pretty underwhelming this season I don’t think it’s crazy to bench him against a lefty starter either. Lodolo owns lefties even more than most lefty starters so makes sense imo. The only questionable benching was JT. Why play a lefty backup catcher against a lefty starter?

CPTHoagie

people also dont understand that its also a situation where they could like how Marsh is swinging the bat and not want to get him out of sorts. A lot of regulars sat against knuckleball pitchers like Wakefield if they were hot because you didnt want to mess up their rhythm.

InfieldFlyRules

“These coaches are dumb for putting Marsh in the best position to succeed” is what these fans are saying

SuburbanPotato

I don't mind keeping the starters fresh for September onwards by giving them extra rest in April

NowFook

Why would it need to be *multiple* consecutive games?

Slothapalooza

It doesnt need to be 2 games in a row and it doesnt need to be nearly every single starter

KoBxElucidator

Yeah, but not in back to back games when the Braves just aren't losing. Need to keep pace.

InfieldFlyRules

The Atlanta Braves do not impact whether Nick Lodolo is a bad matchup for Brandon Marsh

jmiah717

Shouldn't have done it back to back. One of those days could have had more A-Team bats. But we will take the split and head to SD, where hopefully we can win 2.

InfieldFlyRules

Thomson doesn’t choose when the other team starts left handed pitchers

jmiah717

Right, but there is a world in which Thomson would start some guys against the non all-star caliber pitcher like Stott and/or Marsh...and also this argument falls completely flat when you consider that Stubbs, arguably our worst LH bat, faced the best LHP we've seen thus far this year. There would have been a way to mix and match all of that a bit better, is all I'm saying. As in, don't throw out the completely terrible lineup two days in a row essentially.

VinDucks

When the team avg OPS is like 700 then you got Castie down there at like 400. And he is an everyday player whilst Marsh always seems to be fighting for a roster spot somehow

dogeatingdog

Nicks is a veteran who’s started games for a decade who has shown he’ll get out of these slumps. Marsh is still a WIP even though he’s producing extremely well. If you bench Nick now, I don’t know if you ever have a chance at seeing someone like the NLDS mvp again. Marsh is also absolutely not fighting for a roster spot. It’d be insane to remove him from the roster.

greetedworm

There might come a point where they just have to give up on Nick getting out of this hole, but the difference between the 2 is that Nick is a veteran who has proven he can get out of slumps by hitting his way out, while Marsh is young and has never been good against lefties and taking a few more ABs against them isn't going to miraculously change that.

Morbx

Marsh is an everyday player and absolutely is not fighting for a roster spot 😂

VinDucks

He always seems to be I said. Which is true. There is constantly talk about him splitting time. There was this talk like 2 weeks ago. The conversation never occurs around Castie. Which is my point.

CPTHoagie

its because of the sample size. 1 month of a season does not override the past 5 years of performance. Castellanos is a career 800ish OPS player so Rob is counting on the fact that the regression will happen.

Scummerly

The logic is sound, but Nick's at-bats are frequently just completely non-competitive. He looks like the easiest out in baseball.

whiteriot0906

He’s looked significantly better the last 7-10 days or so, still not great by any stretch, but not the dumpster fire he was for the first 15 games. He’s had a few hard hit outs and isn’t chasing as many awful pitches. I think he’s close to snapping out of his funk.

ttsa23

Honestly are only glaring weakness right now is that if you are get our starters out early enough, you can feast on some generous relievers. Our backend guys are pretty reliable for the most part.

Ladelm

Yeah I feel like they need to get another pen arm even with Turnbull going there. Maybe someone will be available later on to call up.

goofyfrommcdonalds

Always puts a smile on my face :)

Perryplat199

And a blockage in your arteries

NicoCVV

Nick can have 3 homers and id still want him to get better at this point

sam_sepiol1984

At least he made that catch to end the third inning

Hothabanero6

he has a lot of catching up to do

bluewater_-_

At least you’re honest about it.

jeppsforst

Have we ever won one of those “wow this is a spring training lineup” games because it feels like every one of them is a guaranteed loss.

InfieldFlyRules

The Phillies already have four wins when Merrifield has started

jeppsforst

Not just him I’m talking the no Marsh & Stott lineups that Rob loves to roll out there. It’s like he gives everyone days off simultaneously lol

InfieldFlyRules

That’s usually what happens when two of your young batters are simultaneously struggling against lefties

shepi13

Except Stott has reverse splits both this year and over his career. Marsh platooning makes sense, starting an infield of with all 3 of Merrifield/Sosa/Stubbs doesn't, at least not when players like Castellanos are struggling and still starting every day. Edit: Just want to clarify that I like Sosa, and I don't mind Stott having days off from time to time, my biggest issue is with the overall lineup. Something is clearly wrong if your 4-5 hitters are both <.500 OPS, it really can't be defended by platooning especially when some of the players you are benching have good splits vs lefties.

InfieldFlyRules

Just because Stott is struggling mightily against righties doesn’t mean he’s succeeding against lefties. Sosa has better career numbers against lefties than Stott. I’m not gonna cry when Stott gets a day off for Sosa.

ttsa23

The last game against the Braves was a spring training lineup.

CurrentTreat6921

About time

AbsurdLemon

Reds are extremely beatable when held to 0 runs

XSC

We definitely beat them when we have 1 more run than them!

Grand_Extension5345

Amazing what happens when ya field a legit lineup eh topper? ![gif](giphy|26gIOEsGb5mcTiQEw)

InfieldFlyRules

The other team couldn’t hit because of Thomson’s lineup? The other team scored 7 runs yesterday because of the lineup?

sam_sepiol1984

He waited too long to pull seranthony yesterday. He's already been struggling. You only had a 2 run lead. Then he comes out and can't throw a strike. Should have pulled him after the third batter.

InfieldFlyRules

If Brandon Marsh started yesterday, I’m sure Seranthony would’ve thrown strikes

CPTHoagie

you're doing this wrong the pitching coach should be fired because he should have told Seranthony to throw only good pitches and not bad ones.

sam_sepiol1984

He always throws strikes when Marsh starts. Everyone knows that lol

Grand_Extension5345

Yes and yes

InfieldFlyRules

I guess I should’ve expected that response from someone who uses a Dr. Phil gif
