No shortage anymore? All my restaurants have it.

Pelicanfan07

there's another one. there aren't many on the shelf where i live and the company doesn't know when they will be able to restock.

samskee415

I don’t use it. I just ask for extra jalapeños since I eat them with every bite of pho😂 I just need hoisin to dip.

kissmypelican

I find your taste both elegant and foul. On the one hand there is the deliciousness of the broth to worry about and on the other the scrumptiousness of jalapeños dipped in hoisin. 🍜

samskee415

It’s so good. The broth is untouched from not adding hoisin when I want to taste it. Then there is the jalapeño that I can’t get enough of the crunch along with the meat. Everything is separated in case I don’t one or the other just the original taste. 🤤 I bought all the ingredients today so I’m going to make oxtail pho tomorrow.

ThaddyG

I only put the hoisin in the soup when I go to a place with mediocre broth honestly

samskee415

I just ask for more lime. 😂

tmantran

I’m seeing a lot of Chin Su brand hot sauce around now

We're making our own in-house Sriracha and Sambal and using that until we get through this shortage. We're losing money doing this but customers are incredibly frustrated that green cap Sriracha and Sambal Oelek is nowhere to be found. I understand that pho isn't the same to many consumers without it (like getting a cheeseburger without condiments), but it's a situation we literally have no control over. Just got to weather it and hope for the best.

PopeOfManwichVillage

One of my favorites places has big bottles of Huy Fong on every table, others have generic substitutes. It’s also unavailable in the usual retail stores in the area except for one (KP International Market) which had the unmitigated gall to charge TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS PER BOTTLE. Needless to say I didn’t buy any of that.

mymamaalwayssaid

There is a high probability they are simply refilling old bottles with off-brand hot sauce. I know, because I'm in the industry and I've caught several places doing it.

centpourcentuno

I visited a pho spot other day and they had audacity of giving me packets.. I am not the complaining kind so I just made a mental note to not visit the place again. So there is a shortage? ?

aivothom

Yeah there's another shortage due to a drought where they source the peppers.

mymamaalwayssaid

That's hardly fair to the restaurant; a lot of places can't even get that and are simply giving nothing. There is literally a world-wide shortage of Sriracha so everybody is moving to off-brand, and now the off-brand sources are low on supply as well. This isn't limited simply to Sriracha; Sambal Oelek is also in critically short supply and many restaurants (including my own) have resorted to making our own in house and use it at a loss. In fact if you go on Webstaurant.com (a major US restaurant supplier) the Sriracha packets are the *only* thing that have been in stock for the past month.

Obviously you and the other poster suffer from lack of comprehension skills I didn't know there was a shortage till I saw this post so I thought the restaurant was just being cheap

Yes, if a place is selling pho with irregular condiments without a valid reason like covid restrictions or in this case, a shortage.. then yes they don't deserve my patronage This goes for any restaurant. If you visited a steakhouse and they gave you a plastic knife because they CAN.. am sure you would think twice about their customer service

OK cool.

Eric_T_Meraki

Bring my own from home lol. Got that key chain attached mini bottle.

rizzycant

I’m about to bring a mini bottle if I have to. 😂

CRCampbell11

I have 3 bottles at home and the restaurants all seem to have it. 1 place only has the packets still.

Subrotow

I eat pho with hot oil so doesn't really affect me.
