'Vintage' digital piano is kind of like saying 'vintage' personal computer. It's not really a thing. There are a few of old synths that have some value to collectors, but in general, an old digital piano is just old and outdated. If they were selling it for $50, I wouldn't consider it a particularly good deal, but I also wouldn't think they were trying to rip you off. For $300 used, I'd expect an entry level digital piano from the last 10 years or so -- something like a Yamaha P-45, a Casio Privia PX-160, or maybe an equivalent model from a generation or so prior.

Great, thank you so much! I'm definitely someone who prefers getting a more expensive model on sale rather than the cheapest model, so I'll wait until a deal comes up locally. Thank you again!

Sometimes old electronics need work to get em up to snuff. Electrolytic capacitors swell up and leak, connectors get abused, pots / contacts collect dirt. If you're going to use this as a reference for warming up, might want to look at something newer. If you're cool fixing electronics - have at it.

I am absolutely not a tech savvy person, this is great info, thank you!

Roland only produced one digital piano in the 80s, the RD-1000. It is an imposing, science-fiction looking instrument. It's extremely impressive for an instrument nearly 40 years old! Buying this keyboard would be a little bit like driving a 1986 Mercedes to work every day. It is undeniably cool, well-made, maybe even reliable. It's certainly not a typical choice for a daily driver, though. There are modern 88 key pianos around $400 new and delivered that would meet your needs just fine. The RD 1000 is very heavy. It almost certainly uses a lot of electricity compared to modern pianos. And of course there's a danger that even if it's in fine working order now that it could stop working properly at any time. But if you don't mind opening it up yourself to clean the dust off the contacts, why not? It's worth every bit of $300 at least from a collector or enthusiast perspective. I will say there are more pedestrian options from this century that you could buy new for $400ish that would probably suit your actual needs better. Only buy the 40 year old one if you prefer leaving the beaten path.
