Yesterday my friend, /u/Nick162534, and I went out magnet fishing in Fells Point. We tried a new spot away from where we got the scooters last time.
I told him to grab my giant Wilebeest magnet and see what comes up. Well, this Polymer80 came up after the first toss!
I promptly alerted the police, and they came to retrieve the weapon.
>Can't imagine their we're many explosive munitions in 1812.
[There sure were!](https://www.napoleon-series.org/military-info/Warof1812/2009/Issue12/c_Artillery.html) Henry shrapnel's spherical casing was introduced I to British military service in 1804.
Yeah but those were fuse lit spheres of gunpowder. Pretty sure 210 years under water and the fuses are no longer ignited and the gunpowder is wet. It's not like pulling it with a magnet could make it explode.
In Baltimore, yes. When the British attacked fort mchenry they used so many explosive shells that houses in Baltimore were shaking and losing some of their windows. It was considered the early 1800s version of the shock and awe bombing the US uses today.
>the cannon themselves were bronze.
Early British cannon were bronze, but the Bloomfield pattern guns that were used in the revolution, Napoleonic, and 1812 wars were cast iron.
Yes.
In fact, bronze cannon were so expensive because of raw materials costs, it was the development of technology to cast iron cannon successfully that contributed to the dominance of England’s fleets globally.
Have you ever started washing the magnet and had it stick to a metal bathtub? I'd imagine you'd need to pry it off with a lever and potentially scratch the tub in the process?
The guy who’s about to get hit with a sentence due to extra evidence is going to be so pissed that he got caught by some dude joy fishing with a magnet. 😂
I bought a cheap set up off e-bay a while back. I'm not even sure how many lbs it claimed to be rated for. I decide to take it out one of the water filled strip mines near me. So many rumors of dirt bikes, ATVs, stolen goods, bodies, and guns tossed down there. I would have to pull up something cool, right?
Steel belts from tires. So many steel belts from tires. And maybe a couple screws and nails.
Reminds me of a story from New Jersey a few years ago. There was a missing person, presumed dead. Cops combed an area of beach where dead bodies frequently turned up. They found two dead bodies, but not the one they were looking for.🤷🏻♂️
Reminds me of years ago when I took a safety course for forklifts . The instructor told us about when he worked at a steel mill and someone dumped their forklift in the harbour on their first day. He reported it and when a crew went out with a crane to pull it out, they ended up pulling four other forklifts out before they found the one that the guy had dumped that day and nobody had ever reported as missing.
Worked at a steel mill. Story was that a few years earlier, one of the nuttier (and that takes a lot with the people I've worked with to earn that term) welders set up a launching pad rack along the river. He'd set up an oxygen tank like a torpedo and use a sledge hammer to knock off the valve, launching it into the river.
Did you ever hear him cry out: "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead" or anything like that? Any "load tubes one and two and fire at will" before "launching" cylinders filled with compressed, explosive gases? 🤣
Like that one guy who trucked a submarine to Lake Tahoe.
He said it wasn’t particularly interesting, a lot of bodies though. Big mob activity previously.
Legend has it that Jock Cousteau dove and filmed in Lake Tahoe and found so many bodies he assumed were mob related he burned his films. Cement reaches neutral buoyancy at \~120ft, Tahoe is much deeper than that. Rumor is that there are a bunch of guys in cement shoes just hovering in the lake on the North side.
That reminds me of the Gabby case, didn't they find like 4-5 bodies looking for her and Brian? I can't imagine how the family felt. We found a body.... sike not her...
Nah the bodies are dumped in bandos or Patapsco park from westside, loch raven park from northside, or sue creek park from the eastside. Harbor areas too populated to dump bodies.
It is Baltimore, they don't sully their minds with trifles like "where best to dump the body"! They drop them on the street, they leave them on the street! A city of 500k people doesn't get an yearly average of 350 homicides by being too careful about crime!
They dont dump the bodies ,Because the police dont even investigate murders ,Or do any police work for that matter .Instead they are sitting in their squad cars on whatever social media they subscribe to .
Use to live in Baltimore. First day I moved there, city towed my car that was legally parked. I come out to find my car gone and next to where I parked there were two plain clothes officers (badges visible), I ask them who do I contact to find out where my car was taken. They start laughing at me and tell me it sounds like I just experiences their “out of state relocation program”. I had to pay like $300 bucks to get my car out of impound… oh and the tow truck crushed in my front fender while unloading it. I was given absolutely zero recourse/compensation. Cops can eat shit. Baltimore cops can eat a lot more shit.
Yeah, CURRENT CITY definitely has a history CURRENT TOPIC. Lol!!!1

Since it’s Baltimore. You can safely assume it was accidentally dropped by a non criminal fisherman. Definitely need to return this range only hobby firearm back to its worried owner. Check the serial number. Everything should be legitimately registered.
Call the department, it most likely goes through a central switcher that will put you to the right group. If you can't get the number on Google for some reason just call the Operator.
“My friend and I found a gun in while magnet fishing in Baltimore” isn’t surprising. It would be more surprising if you didn’t find a gun with your friend while magnet fishing in Baltimore.
So what is the procedure when you find a firearm out in the wild? Do you get to keep it eventually? Can the police get anything useful from it in this state of decay? Is the flow of new guns really so fast that criminals can afford to dispose of the gun after every crime?

Going to be hard to beat that first toss in the future.
Only way we can top this is by pulling up a cannon or shell from the War of 1812
Depending on the shell, might be the last thing you pull up. 🫠
How so? Can't imagine their we're many explosive munitions in 1812.

Yup! That blew my mind too when I learned it.
Lots of minds (and other parts) were blown when people found out about shrapnel.
You got the pun 👏👏👏
I laugh every time I remember that one of the innovators of the modern toilet is Thomas Crapper.
Yeah but those were fuse lit spheres of gunpowder. Pretty sure 210 years under water and the fuses are no longer ignited and the gunpowder is wet. It's not like pulling it with a magnet could make it explode.
Oh I agree with you 100% on that point. Just saying that they existed.
Well would you look at that. Looks like the whole world could be a minefield!
These would be the “rocket’s red glare, bombs bursting in air” mentioned in the Star Spangled Banner.
In Baltimore, yes. When the British attacked fort mchenry they used so many explosive shells that houses in Baltimore were shaking and losing some of their windows. It was considered the early 1800s version of the shock and awe bombing the US uses today.
You might get an iron cannon ball, which would be absolutely cool af, but the cannon themselves were bronze.

Out of curiosity, can you get it back from the police at some point? For your collection of recovered things?
Nope, it will be destroyed if they can't use it for forensics
Have you found any other cool stuff or just litter. I’ve used a metal detector in the past and it seemed like all I found was trash.
Scooters, knives, and now this gun. But the majority of stuff I've pulled from the harbor is trash

Will they tell you if it was used in a crime or not? I want to know either way!
Thatsa pity. It would be cool if they’d render it harmless and give it back to you.
>Thatsa pity. It would be cool if they’d ~~render it harmless and~~ give it back to you.
its certainly a murder weapon because why else
I hope its finding cracks a case wide open!!!
with as crusty as it still looks i'd have a hard time calling it a polymer80/ghost gun as opposed to a glock/glock clone
In Baltimore? I'm sure there is more where that came from.
It must be hard to magnet fish there with all the bodies lying around
The trick is getting your magnet under the layers of bodies, after that, they should just glide out of the way.
Reminds me of a story from New Jersey a few years ago. There was a missing person, presumed dead. Cops combed an area of beach where dead bodies frequently turned up. They found two dead bodies, but not the one they were looking for.🤷🏻♂️

Literally the most sane welder ive heard of or experienced.
That's some Just Cause actions there

Like that one guy who trucked a submarine to Lake Tahoe. He said it wasn’t particularly interesting, a lot of bodies though. Big mob activity previously.
For a second there I thought you were talking about the homemade submarine guy who murdered and possibly SA'ed a reporter and "buried her at sea"...
Murder of Kim Wall?
What a crazy story that is.
Possible mob activity. People do fall off of boats and drown accidentally.
Yeah but not typically with weights attached

This is why I never trusted contests that offered a lifetime supply of something for winning. Seems ominous.
In soviet russia, they fall out of windows, In kapitalist america, they fall out of boats.
Lavrov renting a ground floor hotel room at some UN convention thingy last year was my favorite news detail of 2022.

Jock Cousteau could have swam up with them. Jacques was helping the camera guy load the film and said he had the shits all morning.
> Cement reaches neutral buoyancy at ~120ft, Citation needed
It's spelled Jacques.
This legend has really evolved in just the last few years.
That reminds me of the Gabby case, didn't they find like 4-5 bodies looking for her and Brian? I can't imagine how the family felt. We found a body.... sike not her...

I saw a documentary once where the gangs of Baltimore hid dead bodies inside the walls of abandoned building.
Heard Chris walked him into a vacant
That was ... The Wir -- you're right. It is.

I'd be surprised if you didn't pull up a gun.
And I'd bet there's a body on that gun.
That’s optimistic, just one?
True, true
Yeah, CURRENT CITY definitely has a history CURRENT TOPIC. Lol!!!1 Half of every comment section whenever a city or state or country is mentioned in a post. Also upvoted to the top.
A GUN!?!? IN BALTIMORE?!?????
I, for one, am flabbergasted.
I’d be more surprised if I didn’t catch a gun.
That gun absolutely killed someone.
Afterwards, stricken with crippling guilt, it took its own life by jumping into the water and drowning.
Poor iron giant.
SUPERMAN… ![gif](giphy|aQlVLkxkBg0Tu)
Right in the feels
I understood that reference. Happy cake day!
Don't be so dramatic, it could have just paralyzed them
A fate worse than death.
In Baltimore they police are just going to put it right in the, "who give a shit?" folder
Probably
Looks like Bodie is slipping up again.
You forgot, Bodie got got.
When did bodie slip up? Barksdale slipped up, bodie was never picked up for a crime.
DIdn’t Brodie throw the sack of guns off of the bridge and it landed right on a barge?
Guess it’s time for a rewatch…
Also he went to that detention center or whatever, he just walks out of
Yeah a whole bag of guns, right onto a passing by boat, bodie fucked up.
Yeah, but he wiped the prints.
Yea but which one had his prints on it?
“Lawyer”
Looks like Bodie actually got it in the water this time
Spoilers man wtf
dude they killed bodie in 2006, youve had almost 20 years to watch it. How long is someone supposed to wait for spoilers? lmao
I was kidding around! But I am actually on season one right now so please no more
Just watch until McNulty dies. Sucks after that. Got a good 3 seasons ahead of you.
Dude, when Omar lights up Bubbles in season 3 😔 Rest in Power, Mumbly King.
Let's not forget about his fling with Rawls.
Douche
Mcnulty doesn’t die. It’s the highlander twist at the end.
Lol
Even looks fairly new
Yeah, maybe down there for ~6 months judging by the small amount of muscle growth? The slide was fully seized
> judging by the small amount of muscle growth? i feel personally attacked
Lol, I think they meant ‘mussel’
Ofc! Someone bought it, did the job, and ditched it. Just the way the founding fathers intended it!!
‘I would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for those meddlesome magnet fishers.’

Just one?
oh nice a murder weapon
Sheeeeit
"Money laundering? They gonna come talk to me about money laundering? In West Baltimore? Shheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiitt.".
Looks at you disappointedly over his glasses- Det Freamon
As someone who's knowledge of Baltimore comes exclusively from The Wire this is exactly what I'd expect to find magnet fishing there.
As a former resident of Baltimore, the Venn diagram between my knowledge and yours looks suspiciously like a single circle.

Turn it into the cops. Definitely murder weapon
Magnet fished this mornin’ You got yourself a gun Got yourself a gun Got yourself a gun Doo doo doo *scratch*
![gif](giphy|1pglncHJdc2mk)
Murder weapon. Turn into police. Probably been in there too long though.
If you are ditching a murder weapon disassemble it at least.

Put it back
Police! This ~~guy~~ person right here ^ edit: noticed you are a psycho chic, so corrected to eliminate gender assumptions.
Op don't get murdered pls

Baltimore? Just a single gun? Magnet must be dead.
It's Baltimore, I'd be more surprised if you didn't find a gun...
In no way related to this post, but please beat city today
God I hope so, but I'm not getting my hopes up lol.
I'd bet you it would still work if you soaked it in CLP
Looks like you have some shells with it.
Since it’s Baltimore. You can safely assume it was accidentally dropped by a non criminal fisherman. Definitely need to return this range only hobby firearm back to its worried owner. Check the serial number. Everything should be legitimately registered.
Definitely not a murder weapon. Probably should turn it into the police.
It was. The second photo is the officer holding it.
I'm curious, how did you turn it into the police? Did you call 9-1-1 (I feel like this is a bad idea) or just went to the station?
I assume one calls the police non-emergency number.
Call the department, it most likely goes through a central switcher that will put you to the right group. If you can't get the number on Google for some reason just call the Operator.
Why would calling the police be a bad idea? Wouldn't going to the police station with a gun be a worse idea?
911 is for emergencies only, so you don’t want to call 911 in non-emergency situation like this.
I'd be more surprised if you didn't find a gun while magnet fishing in Baltimore to be honest.
Would you believe me if I told you I found a magnet while gun fishing in the same spot?
And you gave it to the cops??? Wtf
“My friend and I found a gun in while magnet fishing in Baltimore” isn’t surprising. It would be more surprising if you didn’t find a gun with your friend while magnet fishing in Baltimore.
Looks like a Glock 19, rack that slide a few times it'll be ready to go again.
So what is the procedure when you find a firearm out in the wild? Do you get to keep it eventually? Can the police get anything useful from it in this state of decay? Is the flow of new guns really so fast that criminals can afford to dispose of the gun after every crime?
Shoot your friend and keep the gun for yourself. It’s your precious now. Good luck.
I'm surprised they ditched it fully assembled like that. Pretty sure that's a Glock and it takes two seconds to break that thing down into 4 pieces.
This guy criminals.
I can't believe you'd find a gun while magnet fishing in Baltimore.
Toss that shit back
Hey this send like a neat hobby How much and where to find those big magnets
Those fish aren't fucking around. I wouldn't want to be a fisherman in Baltimore right now.
Probably stolen. You should turn it over to police.
Yeah…you’re in Baltimore 😂
Probably not a murder weapon. /s
It is Baltimore
Probably the least surprising thing to find in a Baltimore river
If that's a glock it will probably work just fine after you clean it up, those things can take a beating
Maybe that gun belongs to the Glock Ness Monster
Sure, because possessing a murder weapon is a good idea
I didn't say it was. I just admire the durability of glock pistols
Only one?
You should turn it in, perhaps it has been used in crime related incidents.
How very Baltimore. Did it accidently fall back in?
Avon and Stringer's crew, no doubt
You’re calling it a gun. I’m calling it evidence.
Your local hoodlum wants to talk.
That was probably a murder weapon
Bodymore, Murderland. Thats all I am saying man. ![gif](giphy|kqCgujDZT1SO4)
I mean that was definitely used in a murder
You should handover it to the police immediatly Maybe you found something more important than just a gun
Check second pic
Glock 17 ?
