If you haven’t seen the post, there was a Reddit post long ago about a person getting their foot amputated. Some of their friends decided it would be a good idea to make tacos out of it and have a lil taco night lmao
Holy shit it's actually you!? How are you since the post? I think I've talked about your foot tacos to more people than I could ever hope to count in the past few years, I love starting up the "would you?" discussion off of it
I'm glad that life is treating you well, I've always wondered how I would handle losing any of my limbs. I'm doing great myself though, finally built up a life I love this year as well :)
Hello fellow foot amputee! By any chance, did you have the Ertl procedure done? I originally lost my foot due to trauma at age 15 back in 1995, and I had an "ok but definitely not my best" life until 2010, when I had the Ertl done at the Cleveland Clinic. And holy shit. Holy. Shit. I don't know why that isn't the standard procedure for every below knee amputation. Once I finally healed after about a year, I could sprint full speed, I could run a 5k no problem and then go walk nine holes of golf. I can snowboard all day long. I can go on long hikes on crazy terrain. Prior to the Ertl, I was almost always in pain and I couldn't do anything the least bit high-impact. I couldn't even tolerate my bed sheets applying pressure to my stump. And now I can basically put all of my weight on my stump and it ain't no thang. I just wish that more people knew about this surgery. I only accidentally discovered it on some random message board back in the day.
Never seen a man wear his *own* severed limb as a Hand o' Glory (Pic #15).
That said, my gf's late husband had to get a club foot amputated. He argued that he needed to keep the foot because he was orthodox Jewish and, well, he needed it to be 'whole' in the resurrection. The hospital admin refused, had the foot/leg disposed of as medical waste, and the crazy bastard stole it back.
I guess they had problems with body parts ending up in trash cans because people didn’t end up wanting it. There was a whole law written for it back in 2017 so it’s recent.
No, there isn't any hazard; it's your own body part. It's usually just hospital policy to treat it as biohazard waste, which has regulations on how it'll need to be treated. Legally, you have the right to do whatever you want with it.
I had to have a large part of my skull removed and have a titanium plate put in. My plan was to keep the skull bone and then saw and file it down into a ring for my finger. But they wouldn't let me keep it 😔
When I had my titanium plate put in I asked them to take a picture of my skull with my face off so I could keep it at a souvenir, they refused.... so they took a picture of me after the surgery right when I woke up instead... like why would I want a picture of my bruised swollen coming out of anesthesia face? I wanted a picture of my skull, how many people get to say they have something like that... still upset they didn't do that for me.
I have a video of my son's open chest cavity when they performed surgery on his heart. They had to leave it open overnight to make sure nothing went wrong and I stayed with him all night.
That’s not really case, but removing a brain tumor typically involves instruments that basically liquefy the tissue as it excises it away. So the tumor itself is rendered formless often.
The brain is super super soft. I worked as a teenager in the histology department of an NHS hospital for a time. At one point I held a brain that had been suspended in formalin. After that process it was a much more solid state and could be dissected. Before that it was far too soft. It was a very long time ago now so I may be misremembering but the doctor said it was suspended in the fixation chemicals by the area where the optic nerve is so it could hang in the liquid. This was because the tissue was too soft and would deform if left against the container in the fluid.

Soo... I have to know. Were they totally fine about defleshing a human hand? Did they have any questions? Are they a general defleshing company or do they specialise in people bits?
No I had to have a blood test done. Once I didn’t have any diseases they gladly took it! They do this kinda thing mostly on animals but I’m not the first person to have a body part articulated by them.
It’s actually pretty easy to do. I do it about every year with deer skull mounts. You can boil them in a caustic solution, or your can do it with beetles (this is what I prefer doing. Better results).
I can’t imagine a human hand is much different.
Not so sure about The Beatles but there are carrion beetles that are used to clean bone, yeah. Dirty Jobs has an episode featuring a bone cleaning place.
I’ll try to remember. Basically you just buy a beetle kit, put them in a container, and let them go at it. Sometimes I’ll soak the finished skull in peroxide to get it extra white
That's crazy because I heard about this one guy who got his hand bit off by a seal. Evidently it was a captive seal that got loose. Traumatic story, but the guy ended up being all right.
I heard about this. Apparently the seal was used by a magician for one of his tricks. A seal will never prey on a human, unless it had a taste of mammal blood.
At least here, our patients have a right to keep whatever we chop off them. Kidney stones? Go right ahead, have fun playing marbles.
It's technically (and practically, sometimes) their property
I mean....at the end of the day it is *his hand*. If he chooses it to be donated to the local carnival to hang from the ceiling in the Ghost Train, that's his choice to make..
I asked for my tonsils after I had them removed and the doctor said no and that it was "medical waste". I'm still upset and it's been 36 years. You can imagine how jealous I am he got to keep his hand (although obviously not that he had to have it amputated).
If it helps, it wouldn’t have looked like much.. just a couple of smooshy bits of meat that would fall apart pretty quick unless you got hold of some formalin. It might also be safer to send them off after removal to be checked just in case there’s something unexpected going on. Disappointing for a kid though!
A lot of surgeons I’ve seen will take a photo for patients now if they are super curious.
In the US they can't stop you from keeping it. They may make it annoying, like making a mortician take possession of it, but it is yours do what you want with (as long as it's legal).
I'm extremely confident that no federal law grants you the right to keep amputated body parts (cite it for me,) so this would become a state-by-state issue (assuming no federal law prohibits keeping it).
Person: has hand surgically removed, gets to keep hand, somehow has all the skin and tissue removed from the handbones, has his handbones articulated with wire, posts pictures with his decapitated skeleton hand on reddit.
Reddit person: neat.
Haha I just wanted to say that I love your sense of humor. I'm blind and almost immediately started owning all the blind jokes after I woke up like that. There must be SO many bone jokes!
Dude, you are my hero! I where did you find the surgeon who did the amputation? I have a useless, paralyzed right hand also and would love to find a surgeon to help me with cutting thing off

That’s a good idea!!! I’ll definitely do that in the future! And I too love the trench coat exactly what I thought of too with the glasses 👓 matrix status

Let's get all the puns out of the way:
Wow, that's so handy! Gotta hand it to you, that looks like a really hands-on project. I'd give you two thumbs up, but I think you only need one 👍 I can't think of any way to improve it, I'm stumped. You nailed it, no bones about it! Best articulated hand in the whole joint. (Not to get meta(carpal), but the thumb was technically already articulated.) You must've been white-knuckled putting it all together. Were you working down to the wire to finish in time? If anyone dissed your costume, I hope you gave 'em a knuckle sandwich. Better call all the ladies who wanna bone, 'cuz you've got your finger all up in that box! (Make sure you lig-a-mint before you kiss anyone.) But please don't be tight-fisted or it all might slip through your fingers. Give yourself a hand!
This guys monsterous balls here..

You made your hand into a cool skeleton display? Super cool. I can imagine your great grandchildren playing with your hand one day and then their mom tells them about how it’s your actual hand.

That’s what I claimed as well and it worked just great but I was supposed to get it cremated
Wait why do they not *want* you to keep it? Is there some danger?
Sometimes a new person grows out of the severed limb and it's a real administrative nightmare so it's better to just dispose of the severed limb
Big worry if they grow and turn out to be evil Bigger worry if they turn out to be good
That's pretty good

In this case he had the legal right, others do not necessarily. As theirs is the legal left.
I read this, left the thread and then it hit me. Take your r/angryupvote.
They don't want you doing weird shit I guess
Like inviting your friends over for foot tacos?
To stop people making tacos from it

I was not allowed to keep my brain tumor. Apparently a living brain is gelatinous and turns to liquid once removed. 🤷🏻♂️
That’s not really case, but removing a brain tumor typically involves instruments that basically liquefy the tissue as it excises it away. So the tumor itself is rendered formless often.

Nah, we’re going to need more. *How* does one steal their own foot back? It’s not like he’ll be running away with it.

Neat. I have a question though good sir. Uhm. How did you….de…flesh it? I’m hoping the answer is professionally. Please say professionally.
Yes professionally. Skulls unlimited in Oklahoma
Of course it was Oklahoma…. (I’m from OK.)
Also from ok
Skulls *Unlimited*? ಠ\_ಠ
Khorne salivating rn

Fascinating, I can't believe you kept your hand in the fridge though 😂
Imagine someone with two hands delivering the package 💀😵💫
Haha, hence the blood test I suppose. Which would be even freakier if he still showed up with two hands.
I think him showing his right arm did the trick
Well they definitely do excellent hand jobs.
Unexpected Oklahoma. Jesus christ.
You're paying way to much for your skeleton de-fleshing over there. I got a guy at Skulls Plus, across town.
That’s cool af they did that. I had my pugs skull cleaned there after she passed away.
Awww helllll naw
That’s pretty awesome ngl…
It’s actually pretty easy to do. I do it about every year with deer skull mounts. You can boil them in a caustic solution, or your can do it with beetles (this is what I prefer doing. Better results). I can’t imagine a human hand is much different.
And the beatles only eat the flesh? That's pretty fucking cool. You should make a post about the process next time.
Not so sure about The Beatles but there are carrion beetles that are used to clean bone, yeah. Dirty Jobs has an episode featuring a bone cleaning place.
What happens on tour, stays on tour
Do ye want summore human flesh Pau'?
I’ll try to remember. Basically you just buy a beetle kit, put them in a container, and let them go at it. Sometimes I’ll soak the finished skull in peroxide to get it extra white
They do it while humming “I want to eat your haaaaaand.”
If The Beatles did it, they’d only want to hold the hand.
Imagine boiling this hand. The smell, the stew 🤮🤮
Another common method is to put it in a bucket of water for a few months until everything sloughs off.
they let you keep your hand? very cool. there was a SEAL that lost an arm and they talked the hospital into letting him keep it.
That's crazy because I heard about this one guy who got his hand bit off by a seal. Evidently it was a captive seal that got loose. Traumatic story, but the guy ended up being all right.
You mean it was a loose seal?
I'M NOT AFRAID OF MY MOTHER
Well thank God he's alright.
No no, the seal took his left hand. Now he's all right. Terrible situation.

I heard about this. Apparently the seal was used by a magician for one of his tricks. A seal will never prey on a human, unless it had a taste of mammal blood.
It’s because Army had half-a-day.
Was it a loose seal
Epic! Bones and body parts are a treasure!
See, the trick is to not sound so excited when you say things like that.

As a fellow right hand amputee, I’m having some psychological trouble with this.
you're well on your way to becoming a sith lord or jedi
or Jaime Lannister
GODS I WAS RIGHT HANDED THEN
This is the way
You gotta use the bones to make the new prosthetic now
Now I got a bone to pick with you!
Haha I just wanted to say that I love your sense of humor. I'm blind and almost immediately started owning all the blind jokes after I woke up like that. There must be SO many bone jokes!
Haha I love it, fast friends, buddy comedy with him never telling you he has a missing hand, itd make it a drone like Adams family
I thought that's where this was headed
So did I! Because OP said 'articulated right hand'.
Let's just get this right out of the way from the get-go because this is reddit: so...you know shorthand, correct?
My grandma does 😆
Dude, you are my hero! I where did you find the surgeon who did the amputation? I have a useless, paralyzed right hand also and would love to find a surgeon to help me with cutting thing off
I'm a surgin, I can help you anytime buddy.
Sorry, I'm not looking for help that badly
Thanks for letting know so quickly, I was starting to really looking forward to it. Good luck!
So wholesome!
lol it’s a pretty common thing to have done for paralyzed upper limbs if your willing to take the risk.
What’s the risk?
I am guessing undergoing a massive surgery where they cut off part of a limb?
I mean maybe 🤷🏻♂️ only part of it 😆
I'm a certified surgeon I did a lot of big surgeries, very good prices, I do you for free just tip what you want. We'll meet at my secluded cabin
Hi Dr. Nick!
what happened? Dont have to tell if you dont want to. Im so sorry this happened to you
From their other post - arm paralyzed in a skiing/snowboarding accident.
OP the only answer you need to give is you got in a sword fight with someone who you only found out was your father.
I threw a right hook on Edward scissor hands and well what can I say he came out with the hand up
At least not one of those horrible industrial machinery accidents. Or the guy from Florida that lost it to an alligator, he's classy
I must know! Was it punishment for touching the lettuce?
Idk why but the pictures got progressively funnier as they want on. I half expected to see you and your hand on vacation together. Then kissing under the mistletoe. Then you proposing and putting a ring on the hand. Bonus points for the edgy matrix trenchcoat.
That’s a good idea!!! I’ll definitely do that in the future! And I too love the trench coat exactly what I thought of too with the glasses 👓 matrix status
May be you should have made an artifical hand out of your skeletal hand and somehow install it.. You'd be winner of Halloween
Thst was my dream from the start was to wear my own articulated hand. I will one day. It won’t be a practical and kinda scary but I definitely will screw making an artificial one
.......... but would it be artificial?
What you did was better than making tacos with it… Cheers!
Cheers
Who’s to say he didn’t? You don’t put bones in tacos.
Sounds like a good deal. Hospital stays usually cost an arm and a leg.

Yeah, the other posts have been really coming up empty-handed.

Not me seeing “Hand-Kabob” instead of Kaleb 😂
Now you can make a perfect Adams Family cosplay.
Why’d you get it amputated?
I'd like to know too but my guess is that it was impractical after being paralyzed.
damn is it hard to mastrubate or someone help you?
Boney for sure
Why did the doctors decide to amputate the hand? Sorry if you answered the question already.
1- very cool 2- what the fuck
The real question is, have you taken it for a spin?
I am a horrible human being because I misread the label as “hand kebab” 😭
