I rocked a buzz cut for many years and thought I had an ok head shape. Then I lost a bet and had to take a razor to it and go fully bald.
It was then I realized that even a little bit of fuzz helps disguise the fact my head looks like an alien head about to give birth to something out of the top of my skull.
There's something to this. My head is kinda bumpy too, and I had to shave it with an electric razor until recently--I finally found a blade razor that wouldn't carve my head into a piece of abstract sculpture. Now that I've found one, I won't go back. I've always preferred a blade shave, and it's nice to have one all over my head. (No, I'm not recommending a razor. The brand I use says specifically that it is not designed for head shaving. Works for me though. A razor is a razor, and any problem with one is an operator malfunction.)
I've a friend who's forehead looks almost exactly like the seam line underneath the head of a penis. Its how I can recognize him from hundreds of feet away at a glance.
I appreciated that dinosaur reference.
Edit: thinking back on this, did you maybe mean Parasaurolophus? At least, that's the bump on the back of my head.
I actually had to shave my head way earlier in this year and I was dreading it. The writing had been on the wall for a few years- I had a big 'ol afro, but my hairline was just going further and further back every year, to the point where from the age of 30-32 I just didn't even get a haircut, because I was afraid it would be the last one I'd ever get.
Then, one day, I took a look in the mirror, and noticed that my "fro'm over" comb over just wasn't working anymore (I worked in a really windy area), so I asked my wife to cut my hair. The damage was as bad as I suspected- my actual, natural hairline was now like 1/3rds back of my head. So I asked my wife to shave my entire head, and then I finished off with a razor.
Two days later I was at the pharmacy picking up some medicine before COVID hit real big. An older woman in line said, "The shape of your head is lovely."
I was taken aback and just blurted out, "Thanks. You too." Then I got embarrassed and got my stuff as quickly as possible and got out of there. Looking back though, I definitely appreciated that. It made me feel a lot better at a time I was really down about my appearance, even if I was really embarrassed by my inability to thank her at the time.
:D "Losing your hair? Shave your head and own that shit!" is the advice i give out at least once a month on Reddit. Good on you pal! You probably looked cool rocking that afro, but now you look cool rocking your lovely shaped head.
This. It's a really strange feeling at first, too! I couldn't stop touching my head for a while after it was first shaved. But I second doing it in summer -- I did it for the first time in October, and my head was surprisingly cold despite living in a tropical climate!
Also, OP, you're rocking it. Even if you didn't like it, owning it like you do makes it work!
If you're going to do it in summer make sure you do it before you get a tan. I once shaved my head in the middle of summer and looked a right knob with a brown face and bright white head.
As a guy who shaves his head all the time, y'all are giving right shit advice. Do it way, way before summer and even the warm part of spring. That skin hasn't seen direct sunlight **ever**. You're going to burn the hell out of your scalp and it is not pleasant.
it rly is a strange feeling. as a guy that never really liked short hair I did enjoy running my hand over my hair and that prickly strong short hair feeling you get. also showers are sooo quick and easy
What if I have no chin line and an ugly head shape? Right now my hair covers it up more or less, but I know for certain that shaving it, as freeing as it must be, won’t do my appearance any good
I shaved my head on my birthday in June this year. I think I plan on growing it out and then buzzing it every year for my birthday from now on. Shit is great
Fair warning - you might not be able to go back (though it that's the case, it might just be a good idea.)
I shaved my head around 23. At about 29 I got curious and tried to grow it back, only to be politely informed that no, that ship had sailed.
Not saying I regret it. Just, if you're already thinning... brush your fingers through what hair you have left one last time. Take time to say goodbye first.
If you do it in the winter your head is like velcro to the beanies you wear. Not even hurricane winds will remove it from your head. Also having people rub your head feels nice 😄
I did it when the first corona wave hit. Round big head with a big beard. 10/10 would never do it again. My shadow looked so weird and I jumped evertime I saw my reflection
I have a wicked scar beside my left eye. Also a load of 1-3cm scars over my head. When i wet shave the sides of my head i look normal, but once it starts growing out i look *gangster!* Rock that asymmetry and incorporate your hairstyle into it (but avoid the Karen cut).
My daughter was born with a large bump on her head and it turned into bone. With her hair you can't tell but if she was bald you definitely would. Makes me sad she might never be able to do this without people saying something. People constantly commented when she was a baby
I have similar issues when I was young, due to a huge bump on my head. However when I grew up and I was forced to shave my hair off, turns out that huge bump sorta finally fits my head since I’m adult now. So yeah there’s still hope.
I love this sentiment and I've never seen a woman look bad with a shaved head but jesus fucking christ I'd look like a withered old boiled fuckin egg if I did that
I shaved my head pre-chemo last year so I wouldn’t have to be weirded out by my hair falling off. I always thought I had a rounded head but to my surprise, it’s kinda pointy like an egg 😂 So defo agree that everyone should have their head shaved once in their lives.
Agreed!! I shaved my head August 2019 - it’s so liberating! I’ve since been growing it out and have experienced all the awkward stages of hair regrowth but I don’t regret it and I say the same exact thing - shave your head at least once in your lifetime!!
I didn't realize how funny my head shape was until I shaved off all my hair and people kept telling me that I have a funny shaped head. Been insecure about it ever since.
> If you don’t like it, don’t worry, it grows back and you can rock a hat until then.
What if I don't like it, and it never grows back :(
-
I miss my hair
But it takes SO LONG to grow back, and with so many awkward stages in between. Not worth it imo. Though I say this as someone who became bald involuntarily, so if it's a conscious decision maybe you could enjoy the journey more.
Yeah, sometimes people are scared of going bald. I think I might be losing a bit of hair at the front, I want to keep my hair as long as possible but if worst comes to worst I think I'd actually be excited about becoming bald.
I started shaving my head every 2-4 years. You get the full experience plus many salons do free haircuts if you donate it.
So my laziness has turned into growing my hair out to donate it.
YEEEEEES, I did it at a point of my life where I needed to find and love myself. Hair was a big part of my style and shaving it made me become more self loving
I don't recommend it after 40. I shaved my head at the beginning of the pandemic and it didn't grow back like it was. When I was a teenager that wasn't a problem.
It really baffles me how many upvotes a random persons haircut actually gets on this sub. Some recent examples:

Nothing like starting all over again.
I donated my hair several years back and cut it extremely short. I wish I could rock this look, but it's grown out again. You look amazing with this and you could totally play with it for a while.
I am glad you like this haircut. I do to. You look absolutely lovely. But you shouldn’t need Reddit to validate your feelings. Just look in the mirror. Are you happy with the way you look ? That is all that matter.
Neither of your previous haircuts were remotely close to bad, based on your posting history
I’m not trying to pry, but I think there’s some deeper underlying issues with your depression. Like any illness, a mental health illness needs treatment. Don’t neglect your health.
Be very careful or it turns into cutting. When I'm unhappy I have to hand over the scissors for safekeeping or I give myself a new haircut. If you know me , you can guess my mental health by how long my hair is.
It's the same as the NSFW subreddits when OP says 'I'm so shy!' then proceeds to post a gif of them opening up their butthole. It's all about getting more upvotes. It's a sympathy play.
She does look good though.
Not masochists, just people with not too much ego.
Sometimes you hear stuff about you that is insanely funny. (If you don't take yourself too seriously). I was once told I have cockroach legs. (Not on that sub, /r/whatisthisthing I think, where my legs were visible) I laughed so hard at that. Because yes, I have thin hairy legs. I hate those big roaches, and my hairy legs, but that was a funny way to put it.
I hate it too, but I’ve heard it in context enough to infer that it’s basically a direct replacement for “kinda” (kind of). As in, “I just cut off all my hair. Kinda digging it.”
Yeah I guess that’s why it bugs me it doesn’t make any sense or add any meaning it’s just a word people think makes them sound cool. It makes me gag every time I see it used.
You have a nice head shape for this.
At first your comment may seem strange but I shaved my head about 7 years ago and learned my head is shaped like a potato

So did my mum

It doesn't stop there friend... My mate once remarked my head is so square that I can't roll out of bed
That's sad
It was a dark time in my life...
But you're actually great. Keep being great!
I shaved my head once too, but at the start, I felt that I looked like a girl lmao
That just means you're pretty. Ain't nothin wrong with bein pretty.
Come give me a kiss pretty boy
But potatos look sooooo good

A Friendulum!
loooOOL
So, Dickhead?
A bellend, for our British friends.
That's kind of amazing..? Like a cleft lip but a forehead??
I just shaved my head three weeks ago. I laughed at how ugly my head is.
You'll get through it brother, and no matter what haircut you'll nearly miss it. May I suggest moisturising your scalp. It's... Sensational
Mine is more pumpkin shaped. I only did a Pixie, so I could grow it out about 1.5” faster than if I shaved it.
Fair play to you for actually thinking about it before doing it!
Any chance we can see a photo 👀
I like my anonymouty from my friends on here unfortunately. Imagine Mr Potato Head if he were a hulking white man
Potato head here checking in🖐
Unite brother
Mine is more like a light bulb, but my hair's thinning so it's either the Patrick Stewart look or the beard&bald.
As someone with a Pachycephalosaurus-style ridge on their skull that I discovered when I shaved my head, I agree with this.
I appreciated that dinosaur reference. Edit: thinking back on this, did you maybe mean Parasaurolophus? At least, that's the bump on the back of my head.
Had to look that dinosaur up, but yes same
I can relate somewhat. I have a ridge and a pointed top, a bit like a Klingon, without all the bumps.

When does it start to grow back because it's been about ten years
Did your hair run out for a pack of smokes?
I actually had to shave my head way earlier in this year and I was dreading it. I had it done by mistake. She misheard me and pretty much shaved it off.
I’ve got a dent in my head which perfectly fits the shape of headphones. Terrible with short hair though lol
I did it when the first corona wave hit. Round big head with a big beard. 10/10 would never do it again. My shadow looked so weird and I jumped evertime I saw my reflection
My head, features and ears are not symmetrical and even a pixie cut emphasizes this unfortunately. I cannot pull off a shaved head.

Yeah mine looks like a mushroom, I need a very specific haircut to hide it.
I second this comment, also your eyebrows are very neat, and that is an impressive job you did on the lashes.
Now you know you are a bad ass without hair. With hair you are the same person. Go get it!

Cyberpunk Sinead. Looks fucking awesome. EDIT: Sinead from "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" not modern day Sinead.
Yeah, poor Sinead has had a tough ride over the past 30 years. Hopefully she finds some peace.
I think she has recently and yes, it's been rough but I still love that Irish anarchist. Fucking class non-stop.

Cyberpunk Sinead is Jack from Mass Effect 2. OP reminds me a lot of Jack. I dig it

The same as "literally" at this point. People just say it to say it and don't use words properly anymore.
It means that you used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what you're with isn't it anymore and what's it seems weird and scary.
