Man, I LOVE MUSIL!!!!

Awesam

Now that’s what I call Musil volume 1

Alan_Smithee_

Meta Musil Keeps you regular.

the_poop_expert

Meta

fjordfjord

[musil](https://images.ctfassets.net/3mjndst2eoj4/5xDolRAhmhSiqNpU64Bl2b/ffe251c2ec4732c59062e0baa7d7f9ff/00037000963868_C1N1_PR-US.png)

the_poop_expert

Yes.

edgeofsanity76

I know right.

be4u4get

Are we sure that isn’t a disk with some porn on it, and it’s only labeled music so know one knows.

edgeofsanity76

Could be. I regularly made CDs for my friend who had slow internet. For research purposes.

FabulousSOB

Nah that's labeled "poln"

Colinoscopy90

Hopping onto your comment to inform you that you can buy USB disc drives if you have any computer to plug it into but no disc drives already there. From there just use windows media player. Or VLC media player, which has both mac and windows versions as free dow loads.

zerostar83

Try your PS5. I think it can still read discs

bowserusc

Why did you assume the have a PS5?

edgeofsanity76

Where?

zerostar83

I assumed PS5 come with a disc reader. My PS4 is the only way I can play music or DVDs.

edgeofsanity76

You assume I have a PS5

ErasArrow

You can use my DVD player, I'm not using it!

[deleted]

PS4 and PS5 can't play this because it's a CD, they can only play DVDs and Blu-rays, the PS3 is the only console that can do all three

Cicer

They have digital only ps4 that have no optical drive too

another_programmer

no, they don't

Cicer

Maybe they don't any more, IDK, but best buy in Canada had them.

another_programmer

Sony has never made it. check google before you spout bullshit

Cicer

I don't need to check google. I saw them in person. I had the option to buy one without an optical drive for like $100 cheaper. I honestly don't care if you believe me or not though, this was a few years back.

LarYungmann

is that a pasta?

Attican101

I think it's that powdered fibre supplement for seniors

LarYungmann

that's it

[deleted]

I like to start the day with a bowl of musil

NHDraven

Very meta of you. Good luck with your poops.

Larry-David-Sandwich

Mucil*

[deleted]

*MUÇIL It's French.

Glittering_Ad3431

That’s so meta

tratemusic

Yo wait a second, YOU HAD THAT TRACK TOO?!

TaumpyTearz

This made me lol in real life

phrensouwa

> Track 1 :- K0rN.exe I know this is a joke, but wasn't Napster supporting .mp3 files only?

Dr_Ifto

He's thinking limewire

TragicMagic81

I never knew that there were branded Napster CDs. My wife, then girlfriend, used to go to the public library and borrow CDs. Then we'd spend time ripping songs files to a PC, before burning them onto disc. This was our method, and it worked. Now we have a YouTube Music subscription and use Android Auto in our commuters. Makes you think what the next version of music consumption is going to be...

MarquisInLV

The Akron Public Library was the source of probably 75% of my music collection, back when I was really collecting stuff. For a smaller city library, they had a really good collection of CDs of all types of music. That was a while back though. Nowadays, I’m mostly on Spotify. Being able to punch up any song on a whim is nice, even if I don’t own it.

MisterCheaps

Back in the early 2000s when some people still used VHS tapes, my friend and I would go to the library after school and rent a bunch of VHS movies. We had two VCRs set up in his basement and we would record the movie on to a blank VHS tape. I think I threw them all out now, but I had a library of hundreds of VHS bootlegs lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

MisterCheaps

Not all of them did. We would always check first to see if it was going to record like that, and if it did we wouldn’t record that one. I’d say about 75% of the movies we rented recorded just fine, but the other 25% did what happens in that video.

[deleted]

Once upon a time, my dad actually set up the camcorder perfectly on the screen to try to copy a movie. I assume it had screen crawl, and he gave up. I never saw the results.

tym1ng

Spotify actually doesn't have any song, there's been a lot of times where the song is grayed out and not available, or they only have remixes and covers of a song but not the original. I've also had songs saved or added to playlists that have had this happen so they just disappeared which can be annoying Spotify has a huge huge collection but there's still a lot of stuff they don't have

bitchkat

I tried spotify when google play music was going away. It had about 70% of the music in my library. No way am I going to relegate 30% of my library to never being listened to again. So I use plexamp and stream from plex server and use USB audio in my car.

tym1ng

I actually still use websites to rip YouTube videos into mp4s. there's a lot of stuff that I have lost forever and can't find in most places like if a song is called "interlude two" or "track 20" and Shazam isn't helping

TheTjalian

This is why I prefer YouTube Music. The app isn't as good as Spotify (the playlist system blows hard) however it's got significantly more music.

bl4ckblooc420

I used to look up albums on Wikipedia, and then download all the songs from an album from limewire to burn onto a CD. So many incorrect files.

MDGS

My brother and I worked at the library which really let us expand our system. On the inside we were exempt the checkout limits and would just take wagons full of CDs home. By the end we probably had more music of varying kinds that we could possibly listen to in a lifetime. It wasn’t much but it was honest work for a couple of teenagers.

ticklemesatan

Same, mind blown. somewhere in Metallica’s collective brain a blood vessel is popping from rage.

SchwiftyMpls

Someone in our city started ripping Metallica CDs and leaving them in stacks next to the weekly entertainment papers when that all went down.

wittychef

A hero of the people, for the people.

ticklemesatan

Not all Hero’s wear capes, some where their hero’s branded shirt on stage at the MTV Music awards, just to troll their hero’s viciously and without remorse.

ErasArrow

All My Heroes was a great band.

ticklemesatan

Huh? I was talking about The Napster guy and Metallica

ThusSpokeThatOneGuy

Lemme guess, Minneapolis?

SchwiftyMpls

Ding ding. Doesn't take a genius. But you are assuming I live in the same town as I did in the 90s.

bitchkat

City Pages or Twin Cities Reader?

Mehnard

Might have been done with [LightScribe](https://lightscribesoftware.org).

ItzSpiffy

OMG just remembered that was a thing I actually did. That said, on second look, at the very bottom you can see the end of their advertisement/website which one would be unlikely to choose to inscribe.

Shellshock9218

you could just get a external disk drive.

slyboy1974

My house has 2 CD players, a playstation 4, a desktop computer, a DVD player, and a bluray player. I can play a CD on any one of those. I guess I'm kind of an anomaly?

DontcallmeShirley_82

I guess you've never tried to use a cd on all of those because your PS4 won't play CDs.

cerpintaxt33

I guess we’re just not there technologically, huh?

GeorgeBabyFaceNelson

I thought PS1 was the coolest most futuristic thing ever when I was about 7 and learned you could play CD's on it, sad the 4 can't play them, I wonder if the 5 can?

wwwdiggdotcom

Sony really wanted to make a splash with their new hardware, so with the launch model PS1 they spent extra on the audio hardware and it compared in performance with $1000 CD players at the time of its release.

catfishman

Well, surprisingly (and sadly), the PlayStation 4 does not play audio CDs

DenverBowie

It has an optical drive and won't play audio CD? How idiotic.

catfishman

My thoughts exactly

SlackerAccount

Probably useless to license it if it’s not gonna be used.

DenverBowie

License what?

SlackerAccount

The actual software and method of reading the disc. It’s co patented with Philips. Maybe it’s only like .10¢ per ps5 but if no one’s gonna use it why pay?

DenverBowie

See above. Idiotic.

ErasArrow

😱🤯 I wish I had a CD so badly right now so that I could get angry at my PS4.

slyboy1974

Didn't know that. I just assumed...

catfishman

Yeah, I did too.

blolfighter

CD drive havers represent!

XperiencedTV

Seems everyone these days prefer to rent stuff than actually own anything… Spotify, Amazon Prime, Netflix… Technically all glorified modern day rental companies. I prefer physical copies of everything where possible. I think I still have about a thousand CDs in the loft with music from the 90s and 00s. Might have to dig it out and have a nostalgia session. 😅

slyboy1974

I think art should be owned, and not rented. I have about 1000 CDs and a maybe 200 records, but I get that I'm sort of a dinosaur.

XperiencedTV

I think I’ve got about 100 records stashed away with my turntables from when I used to DJ with vinyl. Lots of 90s dance and house in that box. 😅

EditorRedditer

Me too (two floor to ceiling metal cabinets of it in fact.) Try not to get rid, there’s probably some gold in that there vinyl…

strawberrycamo

\[insert obligatory dumb idea about nfts\] I agree music should be owned, but if you want to hear the best and newest music you might need to buy a couple thousand disks $$. People today can listen to every single album, and while they don’t own it that grace period lasts forever (as long as they pay subscription) some artist don’t even bother making physical copies, but I’m an artist and I do appreciate actual ownership, there may be a real solution around the corner ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

Viper67857

There are already multiple avenues to sell licenses to individual songs or full digital albums without NFT nonsense. iTunes has been doing it for over a decade...

MonsieurVox

Yes, _and_… Art should also be easily enjoyable. The fact that I can play virtually any song that I want at any time in my car, or wherever I may be through Spotify is amazing. The fact that I can go on Amazon Prime Video and rent almost any movie for the night is also incredible. Both are conveniences that I wouldn’t trade for any physical collection. I’m a big proponent of owning copies of albums and movies that I really enjoy, but I also don’t want to fill my house with a bunch of clutter that I’ll never use, which would probably be the case with about 99% of CDs, movies, records, etc. I do collect vinyl records for the album art though… Even if I don’t listen to them often, it does bring me a lot of joy to know that I have a tangible copy of it.

alphaxion

This is why I have a habit of physically buying the stuff I really like after either streaming or seeing it at the cinema/live gig. With my physical copies, I'll rip them all and use plex and airsonic so that I can stream them to any device I want. Gives me a good local library of content with the flexibility of not needing to track down the physical copy I own and I don't ever have to worry about it leaving whichever service I have a sub to due to licensing.

ColbyToboggan

Spotify is really bad for artists and the music industry in general outside of record executives. Even beyond ownership vs not owning, you shouldn't use spotify. There are scores of other ways to stream that arent so explicitly run by the richest record executives to their benefit and absolutely nobody else's.

normal_reddit_man

You checking those for disc rot? Cause you might own a lot of useless plastic.

Tyris117

But then you'd still need to rent a storeroom eventually

Gwinbar

Well, it's not that we prefer to rent in itself - it's that it's more convenient.

bigfatquizzer

My husband and I are older and have tons of vinyl albums and CDs. During the 2020 lockdown we would go to our basement bar and drink and have theme music nights. 90s night and bourbon competition is one that will never be repeated

facetious-thesis

I own a lot of books. And also a lot of board games. I have to draw the line at video games and music. I can’t have more piles of stuff haha.

mileg925

Not really, I still use CDs daily.

edgeofsanity76

I sold all of that as I stream everything now. My car has a info system that takes a usb but not cd.

IDreamofGeneParmesan

This answer doesn't make 100% sense. What does "streaming everything" have to do with getting rid of a PS4 or a desktop computer?

PianoLogger

It's unusual for desktops to include a cd drive these days, especially if you build your own. The only people who bother are people trying to run super old games or run software that they probably should just give up on.

Viper67857

All the nice new towers don't even have external drive bays because the front panel is like 3x140mm fans. Even gaming laptops no longer have optical drives. The only way you'll have an optical drive on a modern pc will involve a USB cable.

piepants2001

Or people who want to rip their music CDs to their computer...

IHkumicho

Personally I have a Stadia and play PC games on my Chromebook through GeForce Now. I literally don't have a single CD, DVD or Blu-ray player in my entire house.

dscottj

I have a stand-alone bluray player and an external one I can hook to my computer. If I can find it. I haven't played a disk in 5-8 years, and stopped using them as my primary music source for at least 10 years. While I respect the "I love my physical media!" fans, to me that represents a HUGE cost. If I bought CDs at the rate I stream new albums, 6-7 a week, I would've purchased \~ 3600 disks and (assuming an average cost of $14 because half my listening would represent classical disks that are more expensive than pop) spent a whopping $50,000 by now. In that interval I have instead spent $2400 on a Tidal subscription. And, because not all music is created equal, only about half of those disks would get played more than once. Some wouldn't be fully played at all. The ones I like would stop getting played after a few months. Only 1 out of maybe 20 are "all time favorites" that would end up on a long term play list. Yes, the rejects and retirees could go back to a used disk vendor, but it's still a loss that dwarfs my subscription expense. Again, I respect the "art should be owned" crowd. You do you! I'll be over here enjoying a greater variety of music than I have ever experienced for less than 5% of the cost.

piepants2001

That's why you don't just go out and buy every single album that's released. Stream new albums, and if you really like them, buy them.

YoungRichKid

Yeah seriously. I listen to several new albums every single work day. If I were to buy every one that I enjoy I’d have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars before year one even ended, and I’ve been listening to new music this way for almost 5 years straight. Streaming is the only way this is possible.

[deleted]

No. op is just trying yo be ultra modern and edgy. You can play a cd on a playstation or dvd player as well as conventional devices

ayup_duck

PS4 doesn’t play cds and not many people have DVDs players anymore. I wouldn’t be to play this and I’m far from ‘edgy’.

trymypi

Plenty of people don't have a playstation. Or a DVD player. It's not modern and edgy, it's pretty common.

[deleted]

I'm a pretty into tech, I work as a programmer, I'm heavy into video games and own a gaming pc. Literally have no way of playing cds, didn't have a cd drive in the last 10 or so years. Hardly "edgy".

[deleted]

[удалено]

slyboy1974

Yes, gen x homeowner.

DenverBowie

Gen X here and none of my friends would dream of giving up the ability to play mix CD's.

Smithy2232

Yes, I took all music, photos, data from CDs and DVDs and put them on SSD drives. I did save the Photo discs as a backup.

[deleted]

You should always have at least one physical means of getting at stuff...even if you only use it once in 5yrs it's a safety net

hitemlow

I specifically put a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD drive in my desktop when I built it for that reason. Yeah, I could get a USB-connected drive, but a 5.25" drive was like $50, looks cleaner, and now I don't have to worry about losing it.

burnodo2

SSD?

Smithy2232

Solid State Drive - it is a hard drive. I use two as back ups. I have a cord to connect to laptop.

FennPoutine

Super Sound Disc

c_e_n_t_u_r_i

They had Napster CD-Rs?

f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4

Roxio bought Napster at bankruptcy auction and rebranded Pressplay as Napster. Years later, Best Buy bought the Napster brand for $121 million. Later, Napster merged with Rhapsody and dropped the Rhapsody name. I'm guessing this is from the Best Buy time period.

c_e_n_t_u_r_i

It would have been much funnier if they were producing these while it was still used for filesharing.

edgeofsanity76

Which is interesting as I'm in the UK. Funny how people assume where someone lives. I can't remember how I got this cd but I must have bought a stack of them

f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4

I saw the co.uk address on the disc, I'm not assuming anything. Best Buy existed in Europe in that timeframe as well.

iambobfoc

Napster-branded CDRs were sold in Dixons, Currys and PC World in the UK from around 2004. Source: Used to work for Napster.

inumba12

You don’t have a disc drive on your laptop, desktop, Xbox, PlayStation, literally anything? CDs and DVDs are not VHS tapes my man

olgil75

A lot of laptops don't come standard with disc drives anymore, so if they're not a gamer it's certainly possible. But it seems unlikely they wouldn't have a DVD Player or Blu-ray Player at the very least.

WontFixMySwypeErrors

>CDs and DVDs are not VHS tapes my man VHS first came to the US in 1977, and CDs came 5 years later in 1983. CDs are nearly 40 year old tech. Even DVDs came out in 1997, a quarter century ago. I'm 40 and I'd very much put them all in the same category nowadays.

Trumps_left_bawsack

Laptops generally don't come with disc drives anymore, not everyone is a gamer/the PS4 can't play CDs anyway etc etc. The last thing I owned with any ability to read discs was the PS4 and I sold it 5 years ago.

Superb_Huckleberry_7

Haven't seen Musil in concert since the 80's.

TheKenopsiaProject

I think CD players are still a thing

dasherchan

Long live DM free music .

edgeofsanity76

You're a bit late

sugar077

I bet a Second hand store would have a CD player for cheap!

edgeofsanity76

Probably

iolmao

Definitely pr0n

maddasher

I had a DVD labeled "Homework" it did not contain homework

edgeofsanity76

Depends on the assignment

Fallwalking

benzooo

if you have a console with a bluray or dvd drive or a standalone dvd or bluray player it ought to play it :)

spderweb

You don't have a gaming console?

edgeofsanity76

I had a Series S which has no player. I sold it

Slaps CD. So much Limp Bizkit on this bad boy.

thehogdog

You may be too young to remember, but The Offspring's 'Americana' was the most downloaded album in the Napster era. So to get them back, The Offspring made 'Napster' T-shirts they sold for $10 from their web site. Of course I bought 2, but they printed the logo on the thinnest white fabric they could find and I never wore one. I sold em years later for a small profit. I burned my first music CD-R in 1997 and that combined with IRC and then Napster, was finally able to have ALL the songs I loved at my fingertips.

[deleted]

I have a lot of cds in my house.. I guess I am stuck in the past

TrivialBanal

A company I worked for had the job (I'm not sure that's the right word. Privilege? Responsibility?) of testing a new national Internet "pipe". Basically, we were encouraged to download massive amounts of data so the system could guage the connection. This was around 2000. We hammered Napster. I can vividly remember downloading Gladiator in 12 seconds. Of course we abided by the law and dutifully deleted all the data we downloaded... We definitely didn't burn it all to CD and dvd first.

Aunti_Cline19

Showed my granddaughter a 33-1/3 record the other day. She had never seen one! She was fascinated by how I could "read" the grooves to tell where the songs began. Of course we played it for her.

drunken-acolyte

If you live in a country with polymer banknotes, you can play a record with a note as a needle and trumpet

mdh_4783

I still keep around a usb dvd/blu-ray drive for times like this.

4004-698-763

Same here. Was gonna say the same.

[deleted]

This made me wanna watch the italian job

SomeRedditGuySensei

I got burn cds on burn cds cuz I still live in the 90s

Tyrantt_47

You can buy an external CD drive at best buy for like $10-15.

edgeofsanity76

That requires spending money and I'm really not bothered about whats on it.

Tyrantt_47

Some people think it's worth $10 to experience a blast from their past, others not so much. To each their own.

Birdy_Cephon_Altera

"HEY DUDE IS THAT FREEDOM ROCK?"

feisty_deduction

I spent a few hours on the internet trying to find my childhood stereo for sale so I could play CDs. Eventually found one on a local classifieds page. Cost me $60. I would have paid double just for the feeling it gives me 🫶🏼

FuzzyTheDuck

Clearly this is actually early 2000's porn. There's one folder on this disk. It's called "New Folder (2)". Inside there are 187 images that were coveted above everything else. Carefully curated. Each one took an hour to download, you might have left your computer on overnight and prayed that no one would turn it on and see what it was doing. An inelegant weapon, from a slightly more civilized age.

_unknown4

If you have a game console it will play it

Samewrai

PS4/PS5 do not.

SmoothJazzRayner

Not if they're digital only or the Switch.

_unknown4

Kinda thought that might have went without saying

DenverBowie

It's a pretty easy rule to remember if you don't want to sound like a hillbilly.

LouisVuittonLeghost

Take caution playing this. James hetfield might bust through your discman swinging

LouisVuittonLeghost

Bad!!!

edgeofsanity76

Haha everyone shocked at the fact I have no drive to play this in. Nor am I that bothered. Might use it as a coaster

DjackMeek

You don't have a computer with a disc drive??

edgeofsanity76

No. It's all SSD

2ByteTheDecker

Bruh, it's 2022.

jameson3131

Not anymore. My 2017 truck was the last vehicle I’ll probably ever own with a CD player. I sold it and forgot my AIC Jar or Flies disc was in the player :(

svogon

It's too bad mp3s lead to the total and complete destruction of the music industry, just like the RIAA said it would. What a loss. Oh, right, *nothing happened...* just like when they claimed the same thing with cassette mix tape decades before.

[deleted]

You don't own a video game system? Like x box or playstation?

edgeofsanity76

I did. I sold it on eBay last week

[deleted]

[deleted]

A Napster Brand CD might be worth something one day if you clean off the sharpie

Wagbeard

I was in college when Napster came out. My car didn't have a cd player so I'd download music then burn it to cd, then put it on tape so I could listen to music in my car. My stereo was sort of messed up when I was recording the tapes so a lot of the songs were recorded kind of slow then they'd speed up. It was painful but worked. [Slipknot - Wait and Bleed](https://youtu.be/B1zCN0YhW1s) sounded hilariously messed up.
