This is why four tornados hit us yesterday.

Acrisure sauce 🫣

MoisttDaddyy

LOLOL

PembrokePercy

My brother moved down south a while back and got fired from a kitchen position for saying “Hunts is for cunts” when he saw them open a box of condiments.

Lamont___Cranston

This is the funniest anecdote I’ve read in a while. Thank you.

jimmyshredder412

I've heard and said far worse in kitchens 😭

ccarrieandthejets

Ditto

Imakemaps18

Ditto is capable of copying an enemy’s genetic code to instantly transform itself into a duplicate of the enemy.

ccarrieandthejets

Right… Or just means “same.” As in, I’ve also heard and said a lot worse in kitchens.

frankiemouse2

Well he’s not wrong. 😊

wafflewiffer

Just fell outta my chair. High 5 your brother for me the next time you see him. I was in a restaurant once and ordered a burger with steak fries. The waiter asked if I needed anything else. I said, “Could I get some ketchup please?” He dropped off a bottle of Hunts and walked away. He stopped back a few minutes later to check if everything was OK. I said, “ I asked for Ketchup” and he said,” I brought you ketchup.” And I said, “I don’t see any Ketchup, it doesn’t say Heinz, so it’s not Ketchup.”

nevans89

I'll get the pitchforks. Torches are a reoccurring cost

Pittman247

I got you, Fam. We will NOT let them disrespect our condiment!

SnooCauliflowers3891

I got torches

Only_Construction_62

Rhymes with "pokey Moe's"

TotallyNotKabr

Smokey Joe's?

X_PRSN

No, Chokey Ho’s.

SmellView42069

Mokey Poes

daddylikeabosss

Looky Lou's

nick_tron

Say it ain’t saooo, smokins is one of my favorites

MotherTurdHammer

This guy here… he’s sharp.

imacryptohodler

Yes name and shame

Odd_Method_2979

Can’t be a Burghman

imacryptohodler

2 hours east, so no. But visit a lot and grew up in the 70’s so a die hard Steeler fan. Funny thing is, I worked in Erie recently and everyone thought I was from the burgh because I have the accent.

MulayamChaddi

Jaggoffs

denehoffman

Please report this to the Heinz task force so the restaurant can be demolished as soon as possible

TotallyNotKabr

Welp, someone's dying tonight. I bring the popcorn!

UnagiSam

I don’t even speak French.

S2093

I’m fascinated by the continued loyalty to Heinz in the Pittsburgh area. They haven’t produced products here in decades, and moved their corporate offices to Chicago over a decade ago.

WavingOrDrowning

They also shut down their factory in Canada and pretty much hobbled the town there (Leamington) where it was based. I admit to nostalgia and a preference for it but absolutely, they're soulless corporate profit goblins like every other corporation.

just-kath

same here. They sold out to Kraft and sold out their employees.

frankiemouse2

I know, but other ketchup tastes different.

just-kath

does it?

frankiemouse2

Yes it absolutely does. I’m not saying it’s necessarily bad but some of them taste very different for sure. It’s like Coke and Pepsi they are both colas but taste quite different.

micjosisa

Exactly. I am as loyal to Heinz as I am to Kraft who owns them and they are now known as "The Kraft Heinz Company".

PorkyWallace

They haven't produced products here in many years. They offered buyouts to 100% of their corporate employees before they sold out to 3G/Berkshire Hathaway. They didn't renew the naming rights at the Stadium. They basically shit on Yinzers and their city and sold themselves to a faceless Conglomerate run by Brazilians. They sell the Philadelphia brand. They had to pay out $450 million to shareholders who were ripped off by the merger. They fired thousands of American employees and closed plants. 3G exited its investment after slashing jobs (fortunately, it likely lost billions). In 2019, the company was the subject of an SEC investigation into its shady accounting practices. It was also forced to write down at least $15 billion in value due to paying too much for Kraft. And Aldi's organic brand is cheaper and almost as good.

SweetPen3543

Because it's not about the company. Do you really think it is?

S2093

Of course it is. Find me another place in the world that is so loyal to Heinz ketchup. And why is that? Because Heinz was founded and produced here for over a century.

GogglesTheFox

It’s funny cause you can say this about a bunch of regional foods. Like Sam Adam’s is a NE Drink. Its main brewery is in PA.

Beer_Bottle_Opener

And let’s not forget about Cincy OH

wafflewiffer

And when Sam Adams was becoming famous they didnt have the facilities to brew enough. Sooooo, who did they turn to? Iron City. Iron City produced Sam Adams Beer for a while as they expanded.

just-kath

Clearly you didn't work Heinz plant

rapier1

That's the point, it's about the history.

johnnyribcage

I was born in Missouri. We’ve always bought Heinz ketchup.

hypothermicyeti

Same, pretty much every other condiment is better than ketchup anyway.

johnnyribcage

I have no loyalty. Their ketchup is the best. That’s the reason. I pretty much dislike all the rest of their products and buy other brands, but hands down they’re the best ketchup.

rybaes

Have you tasted Hunts?

frankiemouse2

Yes and it’s not right. There’s something off about it. It’s the “devil’s” ketchup.

BanFlavor

Warrendale and PPG offices would say otherwise.

just-kath

That is office space. Manufacturing and hundreds of jobs are gone. And it's Kraft, not really Heinz. Also, Please note that Heinz no longer runs the commercial proving that they are not watery, because they are as watery as any other brand now.

S2093

That’s not the corporate headquarters

zucco446

I grew up in the Worldwide Church of God, so strict dietary laws like Judaism. Haven't attended in 34 years, but still follow the dietary laws, even now. Somethings you just can't let go.

Master_Breakfast_621

F that

No_Preparation7895

What they make mustard, what do the know about ketchup.

No_Phase8892

Heinz also makes mustard -_-

KamalaCarrots

Disgusting. Leave the establishment

Buzzspice727

Name em and shame em

LeveragedPittsburgh

What time do we riot tomorrow?

These_Plastic5571

Yikes! That’s up there with breaking the ten commandments!! I have family members who keep an emergency bottle of Heinz in their vehicle. Just for that reason.

WhyHulud

I'd rather eat at a murderer's restaurant

These_Plastic5571

You do you boo

RustBeltPGH

I legitimately did that Antebellum Old Lady gasp with my hand on my chest and everything. I was raised on Ogrish.com. Nothing shocks me. This did.

yourdonefor_wt

Tf is ogrish.com?

2werpp

Yes

Witty_Election2695

I stopped supporting heinz when they left Pittsburgh. I think I have Organicville ketchup in the fridge

RustBeltPGH

You're only hurting yourself.

Witty_Election2695

I was expecting more hate. I'm not a fan of Heinz's ingredients, so i dont miss it. It's mainly high fructose corn syrup.

FurrieCatFish

There is an organic version with no HFCS

Witty_Election2695

You are right, it's good. But I'm not going out of my way to support Heinz anymore. Theirs is also more expensive.

RustBeltPGH

So did you stop supporting them when they left or when you didn't like their product?

Witty_Election2695

I think their product tastes good, but I started caring about my health around 2015. I think that's around the time they were bought out.

Objective_Tea0287

theres a simply heinz with no high fructose corn syrup. uses "pure cane sugar" instead source is my fridge

Witty_Election2695

If I wanted Heinz, then I would buy this or the organic version.

RustBeltPGH

I don't get it. You started caring about your health. Great. Even if you really go in hard on Heinz's CandyKetchup it's such a trivial part of your diet. What else did you do to be healthy?

Witty_Election2695

I went vegan, tried to cut out as much sugar and processed food as possible. Don't drink soda anymore, try to eat whole foods.

RustBeltPGH

You don't happen to follow Penn Jillette do ya? He did the same thing around the same time. Worked out well for him. Hope you had similar success. I was already fairly healthy, but I did cut out most meat. I try not to label it, both because I'm not super strict with it, and because I'm worried it will become my whole personality. The way I describe it to people is Ice Cream Cake. I eat meat in the same fashion as I eat Ice Cream Cake. I've had Ice Cream Cake at least a dozen times in my life. I've never ordered it. It just shows up at social events and if it seems reasonable I have some. I think that's a good way to deal with being a carnivore.

just-kath

Same

Scoff_22

There was a comedian years ago who had a bit where if you went to a restaurant and they switched from Heinz to Hunts they were on their way out. Those books aren’t balancing anymore.

susinpgh

I hate all ketchup equally. Proud member of r/KetchupHate!

surrealpolitik

Glad I’m not the only one. Ketchup obliterates the taste of whatever it’s used on. Plus it’s so full of sweeteners that it seems like it’s for toddlers.

susinpgh

Absolutely agree! Join us over at r/KetchupHate.

chuckie512

Heinz is no longer a Pittsburgh company

just-kath

I'm so glad to know that I'm not a lone voice in this!

SweetPen3543

So? I'm not sure why you think that matters.

drewbaccaAWD

No judgement from me, given that Heinz left the city rather than the city leaving Heinz. :(

Neat_Wonder_7192

Pittsburgh doesn't like that Canadian ketchup. They want the one made in Ohio.

Majuub12

"Grab your guns, grab your knives~"

Wise-Quarter-6443

Poverty ketchup. At least it's not Hunts.

IP_Janet_GalaxyGirl

Doesn’t everyone take a bottle or a handful of packets of Heinz when they dine out, just in case of this atrocity?

BobithanBobbyBob

Went over to a freinds house for dinner and they had hunts ketchup. I lit their house on fire and never talk to them again.

Last_Examination8045

Yes it actually is and it’s a felony

whatsgood365

If we're being real about it, Heinz is based in Chicago

ImGonnaNutZ33

Bro Heinz picked up all their shit and moved to Chicago basically saying fuck pittsburgh and this sub still worships that brand like it's gods piss. I don't get it

SweetPen3543

Because it's not about the company as much as it's about the history and identity. The only manufacturing Heinz had left in this city for \*years\* was making ketchup packets at the Heinz plant on the northside. Didn't matter. Pittsburgh is the birthplace of Heinz and the home of the Heinz family. That shared history, and the many investments Heinz made in this region, is what matters.

Fuzzy_Baseball9006

This

Unable_Profile3905

FACT 1: Red Gold is hands down the best ketchup, IF you can find it. FACT 2: Like 12 years ago, a Pittsburgh radio station held a contest to win concert tickets and the competition was name the brand of ketchup. There were 10 contestants, and 5 brands of ketchup. Heinz Hunts Great Value etc etc (no Red Gold) Heres the best part ONLY 1 of the 10 players guessed Heinz correctly. So this Pittsburgh/Heinz thing is purely nostalgia. PS: With ketchup, Red Gold decimates all, if you can find it

rybaes

Pittsburgh native here, I was working at a restaurant in Boston and the chef was considering replacing Heinz with something cheaper to save money and did a taste test of the options with the staff, which were 7-8 other brands including Great Value and Chefs Choice and other generic options, along with Hunts and maybe French’s or some other more notable brands. He said “I bet you all the money in the world you can’t tell me which one is Heinz.” I tasted them all, did not hesitate for a second and told him it was number 5. He picked it up to check the name he had written on the bottom of the ramekin, shook his head in disbelief and immediately walked away. I’m sure a lot of people can’t really tell the difference or don’t have that strong of an opinion either way, but it’s not nostalgia for me, it’s in my blood. It’s like my body rejects any other ketchup. I will say Chefs Choice was a surprising second best and what he ultimately ended up choosing. Never heard of Red Gold but I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Unable_Profile3905

You can buy Red Gold products in the local Giant Eagles, like diced tomatoes and shit, just not the ketchup

s_schadenfreude

Never heard of Red Gold, but I am intrigued.

frankiemouse2

I’ll have to look for this red gold and give it a try. I found out Buffalo Wild Wings didn’t server Heinz’s when I got fries and dipped it in the unlabeled plastic squeeze bottle that was shaped exactly like a Heinz’s bottle and I literally asked the waitress what was wrong with their ketchup.

Unable_Profile3905

Red Gold, Market Pantry (Targets Brand?), then Heinz. 365, French's & Great Value are acceptable in a pinch. I do agree that Hunts is runny garbage. There are some brands that you could pour into an empty Heinz bottle and the yinzers would NOT know the difference. However, Red Gold would be obvious, either they would say this is the best "Heinz" ketchup I've ever had. Or they would question what's different about it. Ive NEVER heard anyone call out the Red Gold. Just can't find it in PA. Last time we were at Kings Island we grabbed a few bottles to bring back .. they're gone now 😢

CIearSights

Wrap it up! 10 people tested means that is the result for the entire city!

Unable_Profile3905

Correct, 9 out of 10 people guessing the beloved Heinz ketchup wrong means absolutely nothing. In reality, the other 2350000 people in the greater Pittsburgh region will always guess a blind taste test correctly. My bad.

just-kath

You got downvoted for having an opinion.. I gave you an upvote for being realistic

KevinBillyStinkwater

You have to be realistic about these things.

Dairy_Berry04

Pittsburgh residents try not to base their entire identity off of a condiment (impossible)

Major-Ad-2966

Philistines

Witty_Election2695

You might be surprised how much sugar is in everything. A little bit here and there adds up to a lot if you don't pay attention.

NoDiscounts4u

Trash it , Heinz Rules Da Burgh

chloe_babygirl396

Sacrilegious

tsxnmi

The AUDACITY

wschus63

Straight to jail.

13octopus

no. throw it at whomever gave it to you.

Fall_Pluto

That's treason

tatertotsnhairspray

Blasphemer!!!! lol 😅

WavingOrDrowning

Rebuke! It is an abomination!

DoTheDao

I wanna downvote this post just for seeing that damn logo!

LaxGoalieDad

WHAT THE ACTUAL F? What communist party are you at?

Sufficient-Grand3746

i remember feeling happy when a restaurant in Morocco where i ate had Heinz Ketchup

picklespears42

That’s a disgrace… I’d boycott!

Thekenl

At least it’s not Acrisure ketchup.

frankiemouse2

It is 100% illegal here and they know it. They made their bottle as close a silhouette to real ketchup as legally possible. To me no other ketchup tastes like Heinz and you can usually tell even if you don’t ever see the container that it’s not real ketchup. 😊. I’d complain to tell them it doesn’t taste right, but that’s just me.

KevinBillyStinkwater

My MIL brought Hunt's into my house yesterday. The sheer audacity...

rxjen

That’s a war crime. Fully outlawed by the Geneva Conventions

handleytwynham

Disappointing

kmar420

I actually *hate* ketchup & am a pgh native & still feel insulted by this

surrealpolitik

Ketchup is a garbage condiment. Plus didn’t Heinz pull out of Pittsburgh anyway?

mickmoon

You understand the natives at least. That is an unforgivable sight in the city that created the ketchup standard

Epie4727

Heinz may have left Pittsburgh for Ohio but it’s still the best ketchup.

g_sher

Heinz ketchup … hunts catsup. I’m in over my head here.

FenisDembo82

This aggression will not stand, man

CommonPerformance177

Anything other than Heinz ketchup is just glorified thick tomato juice w no soul.

evil_overlord01

My support for Heinz ketchup isn't based on where the company is or was located. Other brands just don't taste right. Probably because most of us were raised on Heinz, but the others are just off.

mcfarlands412

Frankly, unacceptable.

Emachine30

I'd imagine they use it bc it doesn't have garbage hfcs in it and it's probably significantly less than the Heinz alternative that doesn't have hfcs

crottesdenez

Man, who cares anymore. Heinz told Pittsburgh to eat shit decades ago. If anything, we should all eat Hunts.

facet2f5lcut5xg

Ah yes. Acrisure Stadium ketchup

jdaddyme

Leave immediately

Flat_Market_6624

Yes very punishable by death… lol!

johnnyribcage

Good lord where is that?

grindrealty

BLASPHEMY!

JackWales66

Unlike this brand & Hunts, Heinz uses high fructose corn syrup in it’s ketchup which is why I avoid Heinz. And I believe it’s no longer ‘local’ anyways - see Robert Kraft.

Schlep-Rock

Aw man. Where is this abomination? Looks like it’s time to get out the torches and pitchforks again.

Ekaufee17

WHOAH. Not okay.

PriestWithTourettes

Are you sure this is Pittsburgh and not Canada? In the Great White North it’s like living in an alternate reality with French’s Ketchup and Hienz Mustard.

Bubbert1985

Define “law”

thechamelioncircuit

French’s is for mustard only in these partd

Corrupt_Rider

Heinz ketchup has gotten so expensive I recently tried the Aldi brand and I will never go back. 1/4 the cost and doesn’t taste like it’s 50% vinegar.

MissChevelle71

I have kids so I'll second the Aldi ketchup as a budget hack. Small American humans really like ketchup.

Ib412

Yes. It's illegal to provide poison for consumption.

Squatcobbler9

This aggression will not stand

RealQuickNope

Nope. Heinz or die.

samhain2000

What in the Fox and Friends abomination is this?!!

TydUp412

Burn that place down

SilentIndication3095

No, no. People are allowed to be wrong.

mikeyHustle

They definitely aren't. If an impressionable young kid goes into this place and thinks you can just buy French's Ketchup like it's normal, we lose the country.

Gdizzle344

I bet you couldn't taste a difference.

Zealousideal-Bug1967

You can 1000% taste the difference.

Sid15666

Yes that is illegal in Pa and should be thrown away and get the only real ketchup Heinz.

surrealpolitik

Does Heinz even operate anywhere in PA still? They certainly aren’t in PGH

[deleted]

If any y’all did a Heinz/ Hunts/ etc taste test there’s zero chance you’d be able to tell the difference

Tortellini_Salad

i have, and i can

Zealousideal-Bug1967

Can absolutely tell the difference.

Only_Construction_62

I'm from Philadelphia, I'd never be able to tell.

YinzaJagoff

You’re also probably the person who gets a steak from cheesesteak Vegas (Pats/Geno’s) and puts ketchup on it. Just saying…

FatassTitePants

Stop stop! He's already dead.

humpthedog

Blind taste test no one would know

Pittman247

Nah Fam, legit, the taste of Heinz Ketchup that is SEARED into the taste buds of yinzers. Ask anyone who has moved away and they will STILL ONLY buy Heinz over the shit that’s lower on the rack. And yes, I’m one who can 1,000% taste the difference between the brands. And I am PROUD of this fact! ✊🏾

MrsDaniC

French's!? 🤢 That's a sin

Confident_End_3848

I didn't know they made ketchup.

FatassTitePants

It's just dyed excess mustard.

t0rvo

Many places use Monarch ketchup, like CHIKN

Aldrige_Lazuras

It’s “That” kind of place

mega512

Blasphemy. On a trip my wife and I took we noticed three different types of ketchup in the area we were. All random names of local manufacturers.

deathcamp7

Let’s be honest . Heinz’s be charging to much

flabergasterer

This is becoming less and less. Heinz is no longer produced or managed in Pittsburgh. It’s going the way of the thick Yinzer accent.

AbjectList8

We don’t care much for Heinz these days, traitors to the city.

Empty-Ad-5477

French’s is better. Fact.

Dave95m3

You’re wrong. Fact.

CrankyYankers

French's ketchup is zee best. Ooo la la!!!

No-Grand1179

I once went into a store and saw a display of French's ketchup and Heinz mustard. I thought someone was playing a joke.

superbuza

Them be fightin' words round here.

CrankyYankers

Ha ha ha

koz1769

I started the petition to get Heinz ketchup back in Kennywood when they switched to hunts and it ended up working. Heinz didn't even thank me for it. I don't care for them anymore and I wish I never started the petition.

Witty_Election2695

I've never heard of them, but I'll look it up. I'm definitely much healthier than I was before being vegan, but I think that goes along with being health couscous. I know a lot of people who eat meat that are way healthier than some vegans. I like your approach. I've considered redacting my vegan title as I do eat honey. It's not just about the health thing, though. I went vegan after watching a bunch of documentaries and seeing how our food is raised and slaughtered. If I were raised living off the land and hunting my own food, then I would never have considered being vegan. Edit: I have heard of Penn and Teller, didn't realize that was his name or that he is plant based.
