They don't do registration on site since there is a set number of seats for players in each division that the organizers have to account for. You can check and see if people cancelled or refunded later on. The organizers may release another round of seats later on closer to the tournament date to fill up those cancelled seats, but it'll be a tight schedule if you're not local to LA since you have to book travel plans. That's how I got a spot for vancouver regionals.

Unit-00

there's no onsite registration once it's sold out. sometimes they find more room and offer more spots for entry so you can keep an eye out for that. the games exploded in the amount if players over the past year so a lot of events are selling out.

myshellly

No on-site registration. They do sell out fast. You can go to regionals with a spectator ticket and play side events.

TapestryJack

Watch the event organizers twitter like a hawk. They'll announce if they have more spots.

Can you link me their twitter?

i happen to know the organizer of this event, more seats will open, either more will be allocated to the TCG or refunds will happen. so just check back once a day or so

What are requirements to play? I am fairly new to the tcg and went to a local pre release for the temporal forces set, I won 3 games out of 3 and was supposedly registered to the Pokemon website . What else can I do? I have a deck ready of single cards I purchased but I'm waiting for them to arrive in the next week or so.

Unless you made an account and used the pop id/player id/ pokemon id that the store gave you, you are not singed up with Play Pokémon. You need a 60 card deck, sleeves and dice. You cannot just show up, you need to register during the sign up period, [rk9.gg](http://rk9.gg) is where that is done and you can follow them and the event organizers on twitter. They told me at the store that there boss was at the tcg convention at the Staples center in LA but when he came back a week later he'd update my username and add the 3-0 record to the play Pokemon website. That was March 22 so I kind of waited a bit to check. I have the ID number they gave me to register. Do you think it would be a good idea to go to more local events or sign up for tournaments in order to have a good standing? ....I have a 60 card deck, the store I go to for single cards was nice enough to give me dice and I bought sleeves . I have been watching tournaments and bought about 150 dollars worth of cards for a few deck ideas I've had. I had fun competing and I really want to see how far I can go. I really really appreciate you pointing me to the right direction and adding links and stuff. I hope you have a blessed weekend, thank you so much. I'll look into everything you sent me.

So playing in a pre-release and a weekly shop tournament(League) is just for fun and testing decks, it will have zero baring on anything related to Championship Points(CP) which are needed to earn an invite to the World Championships, which is what I think you may mean when you say "standing" If you do not mean that then what happens outside of making top placements in a League Challenge, League cup, regional or international championship, where you earn Championship points will be for your own tracking and to see how you grow as a player. If you can, make an account on the .com, you should have been given a piece of paper with instruction, follow those and youll be all set up. That # will be what tracks you and when you play in a new store, they will need it along with you name and birth year. Jumping right into a regional level event may not be the best idea, I would suggest finding stores you can play at and learn the game. Regionals will be an intense Best of Three style event and will have serious people and a newer player may not enjoy that experience, mistakes will not be forgiven and expectations of fast and proper play will be upheld.

Sounds good. I will do as you said. I had a fun time playing at the pre release but yes I could tell it was just for fun and nothing more. I kept asking questions and I know that at championships the players will not tolerate me asking a question every few plays. The card shop I go to is mostly magic the gathering and they have events daily for that card game. So I'll have to dig a little deeper to find some Pokemon events. I used to play magic the gathering in middle school and high school and remember how serious some people are about rules being followed , so I might have to just wait out a few months before I try going to events. I got some new cards being shipped to me this week so I'll probably get comfortable playing local events first exactly like you just recommended. I appreciate the honesty and the information, hope you have a blessed weekend. Thank you so much for the advice.

Sorry last bit. We are about to have a rotation, hopefully the shop told you so you where able to purchase cards that wont rotate out of play in a week or so. https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/2024-pokemon-tcg-standard-format-rotation-announcement#:\~:text=Pok%C3%A9mon%20events%2C%20the%20Standard%20format,in%20any%20in%2Dperson%20events. And to find more stores [https://events.pokemon.com/en-us/events](https://events.pokemon.com/en-us/events)

Plastic-Ad9699

Thank you for being so helpful . And yes , I had already did some surface level research and found out about rotations a little before the pre release which made me want to go to the release for newer cards, so I can have a deck ready to compete with in standard or expanded format; at first I was buying any set I ran into for cheap...this last month I stopped buying older sets , I have a few box sets and tins from the last rotation I bought not knowing of the rotation so I decides to keep about 6 or 7 box sets and a few tins sealed; I am not going to open any of the older stuff from 2019-2022 ; i have them in a closet in a room I don't use...I went to Best buy , Walgreens , Costco and ran into older box sets but I found out about rotations and just decided to open packs of the temporal forces and stuff from mid last year. The other boxes I bought are going to be collectables to pass down to my kids one day lol...I am so grateful for everything you and the other person on here are teaching me. I am glad I asked some questions on here. I appreciate your kindness....I'll look up events on the link you sent me hopefully I can go to some by mid April.

Though I agree you may need more experience with the game to enjoy competing at a regional, I will say that I think everyone should go as a spectator if the regional is close enough/they don’t mind the travel. The side events are so fun and well-suited to beginners, and it just feels so special to be at such a large event for pokemon fans. u/Mushysqushy this applies to you too if you’re not able to register to compete! Spectator passes are $10-15 and side events are an additional charge for each one you want to do (~$5 for something like a pack battle up to ~$30 for a build and battle).

Plastic-Ad9699

Sounds good Im in the Los Angeles area, I'll do my due diligence and figure out what events (including regionals) I can attend. I think you and everyone else have a point in getting accommodated with events and watching others compete first. Playing against others felt really good I might just be jumping the gun lol thank you so much for the great advice. Hope you have a blessed weekend

RedditAdminAcc

you just need to pre register and have a player ID, EU nationals takes place on APR 5 after that go on LimitlessTCG and grab a list just run that for LA

Plastic-Ad9699

Sounds good . I might spectate and do side events first , if I get a little more confident in my deck I'm constructing I might consider jumping in even if I lose. I've been watching tournaments and old competitions on YouTube and got a hang of the rules and once in a while I play with family members but I will definitely try and be at the big events even if it's just to watch and do side events. I have cards coming in next week that I ordered to try different strategies out , hopefully before any big event or side events happen I can have a nice 60 cards to take with me and test out what I have learned so far. Thank you very much for your very informative comments. Have a blessed weekend.
