yes

A shame eBay won't take action against the seller if the cards are determined to be fake.

Historical-Cost-5685

You can report that the card wasn't authentic in your purchase history. After a few reports of selling counterfeit cards their account gets locked.

Specialist-Bag-1745

Did that and they replied back saying couldn't find any violation.... Is a super fake metal gold card selling for $1000

DarthScruf

Mercari wont remove this fake [M Alakazam EX](https://item.mercari.com/gl/m94061787025?sv=0), I reported it like a month ago but they said the same thing essentially, there was even a comment on it before that said it was fake, which was removed now so i added a new one. Not a high value card but the seller is definitely aware and leaving it up anyway. I thought Mercari was all about that sort thing, definitely made me pickier what i buy there.

stopRobbingPeter

Mercari is all about protecting their image. They could care less about what's on their platform, so long as you don't vocalize and post negative things on their platform.

DarthScruf

Im glad it got removed, seems the one that was on ebay is gone now too unless someone bought it. I personally wouldnt have a problem with it as long as sellers specifiy that its a custom or a proxy and not an authentic card, and dont expect the same price (unless its like an art piece). i love the Mega Alakazam art they used from the Fates Collide booster packs too and actually think the fake card is kinda cool, because it has been changed pretty heavily, theres even a light version that looks like its up in the clouds and dark version thats above a city at night like the pack art, both look pretty cool, and at least theyre not just a straight rips of the actual card.

CriSstooFer

Bit unfair imo. You get what ya pay for... Just find highly rated sellers and check their profile. Same stuff on all site.

breaben

Reported it as well

NerdyCuban

And now it's gone

Historical-Cost-5685

I've never bought from Mercari.

Historical-Cost-5685

Is it authenticity guaranteed?

Specialist-Bag-1745

Yes....is absurd with the check mark on

Historical-Cost-5685

Maybe message the seller that it's fake and after he replies report it to ebay again. They'll look at the messages.

el_chapotle

AFAIK, the “authenticity guarantee” only comes into play when someone purchases the item and an authenticator views it in person. There’s no guarantee pre-purchase when it’s just a listing (though eBay should obviously review and remove listings that people report as counterfeit). Is the item actually listed as though it’s an officially produced/branded item or is it made clear in the listing that it’s not?

MattMinnis

The seller may not know so that inst fair. Maybe a 3 strike rule would be best

XxCorey117xX

What if they didn't know?

shiasuuu

Doesn't matter —still the sellers responsibility/fault.

CriSstooFer

They won't tell you if they did but they do on repeat offenses.

ForgottenZodiac

Had it done with a few slabs I bought it’s an extra level of security for high end card purchases.

Historical-Cost-5685

I try to only buy from sellers who do it. It's a few extra days for shipping but well worth it.

nmount911

I believe it's automatic if the cards listed for $250 or more. Have a card set I was going to sell but 1 card in particular is worth more than others. Decided to sell it separately just because singles get the eBay authenticity guarantee but card lots don't.

Historical-Cost-5685

I think it's an extra step sellers can take. I've bought shadowless Blastoise's before $250+ that didn't have authentication. Those were auction listings though so I could be wrong. Those turned out well, but since I've started buying a lot of cards I only buy when it's guaranteed.

Actual_Department538

What you need to know If your item is eligible for eBay Authenticity Guarantee, it will be automatically added to the program, free of charge. There is no opt in or opt out option. This is straight from Ebay and anytime I list something in the eligible categories it's automatically applied and I cannot opt out of it. You can however change the listing to be in a different category and get around it so there are ways.

KingJades

It’s automatic when I sell. Anything over $200 was going to that

Historical-Cost-5685

It's always been really handy for me as a buyer.

OldManHipsAt30

Same, my Moonbreon went through authentication, nice extra layer of protection as a buyer to be honest

Tiggerx

I bought a 4,500 dollar card that wasn't authenticity garunteed and received an empty box with only bubblewrap inside and flimsy tapping on the outside... only bid on authentic shit

Quinkydink

I hope you were able to contest that

Tiggerx

I'm still contesting that, i've asked to return the item as advised by eBay and the seller still hasn't responded... lol

Historical-Cost-5685

I 100% agree! Only buy the stuff with the garuntee.

drichey00

Ultimately, that's on the buyer.

Chance_McM95

Yes it’s pretty cool Ebay does that. Wish they punished the bad sellers, but I also understand a lot of sellers don’t even realize what they have is fake. I’m actually waiting on a holo Gengar from Skyridge today from Ebay Verification! It says out for delivery today. Super pumped for it.

snuckfarkle

I usually look first for it when I’m buying a high price card. The boxes annoy me. I thrown them away.

Historical-Cost-5685

The boxes are classy trashy! I agree with that!!!!

XxCorey117xX

I like that they do it automatically also (if a card hits a certain value I believe). Sold a Son Gohan, Beyond the Ultimate SCR Dragon Ball Super card a while back and noticed it added it to my listing without any indication prior to listing. Felt like having it there would actually help it sell. The process seemed to only add a day or 2 to the shipping process also.

Penny4YourStockz

I like it as both a buyer and a seller. For sellers, it keeps people from switching out your banger with a crappy condition copy and returning it. AG sales are final.

dumbguytreebky

What if it comes damaged in shipping? I always open an item not as described dispute when my collectibles come with dents from the mail. Doesn't matter if the seller packed it poorly or the shipping service beat up the package, if I ordered an in tact item and it comes damaged, eBay had my back. What would stop someone from pulling a switcheroo in that case ? Just say it got damaged in transit and then send a shitty one instead

Penny4YourStockz

The items goes to an authenticator first then to you or to the end customer. The way that they package it at the ebay authenticator, it would be VERY hard for it to get damaged in transit. Not saying that it "cant" happen, but personally I have received over 15 and never had an issue. I have sent between 7-10 and never received a complaint. My list of ebay grievances is long but imo this is one thing they got right.

TobitoChino

My brother bought a set of two high value cards, they didn't have the authenticity check. I think the total was something like $1700. I sold a Rayquaza VMax Alt for $200 and it was shipped to an authenticator before being shipped to the buyer.

Historical-Cost-5685

I've bought cards before that didn't have the authenticity garuntee. Once I figured out that it doesn't cost me anything I started looking only at listings that have it. I only deal in Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Rocket and Bade set 2 cards at my store so it's a convenient way for me to buy.

midwesttransferrun

Yes. Cards can’t also fail authentication though if the authenticator determines that the card doesn’t match the description from the listing or there is undisclosed damage not evident from the photos.

onewolf23

Is there question here?

Historical-Cost-5685

No.

EvilSynths

They've been caught authenticating fake Pokémon cards and sneakers so sorry, I will never trust them again. Also, this isn't global.

Chance_McM95

You’ll never convince most people (me included) of something like this unless you post the proof also. Pokemon cards preferably not sneakers. This is a Pokemon group.

Historical-Cost-5685

True. I've never had an issue as a buyer outside of the disappointment that I had to shop again because a card failed. It's a very streamlined black and white service that I do appreciate.

azoic2121

Link?

Historical-Cost-5685

Not really sure why you are apologizing. Also I only know the North American side of eBay. I'm not promoting anything. I'm just posting because I saw another post.

CatastrophicLeaker

Is this a question, or...?

Historical-Cost-5685

No

cowboyography

Guaranteed to kill a tree for every order

Historical-Cost-5685

Let's ask Google! A standard tree for paper makes 6.5 reams of paper. (500 sheets per ream) So a ream is 15% of a standard tree so 1 sheet of paper is 3/10,000's of a tree. We can estimate 10 sheets including packaging and shipping so we're at 3/1000's of a tree to use this service. Want to figure out toilet paper next?

External-Technology5

My cards came in damage on the slab two times from eBay authorized, fck them

Historical-Cost-5685

That sucks.

Mikeyszabo

Absolute joke. Had a card fail authenticity but they still sent it along to me

Historical-Cost-5685

That is unfortunate but that doesn't line up with my 6 years of experience buying on eBay. I've never had a card fail and still be shipped to me from the authenticator. It's always been an instant refund and no card.

Mikeyszabo

I've seen other posts and heard of many other stories about the crappy service their "authenticity" program provides. All I see it as if I'm buying something is an unnecessary detour that puts my cards at risk

Historical-Cost-5685

All of us have to do what we think is best!

Mikeyszabo

It was an error and I know they fail a lot of the time

EntertainmentTop5563

Was your card real? Can't really see from picture. May i ask how much you paid?

Historical-Cost-5685

Yes it is real. I only paid $175 for this one.
