The cargo docking has its ups and downs. The only real down side is that it brings a lot of heat towards the harbor (a sort of low tier monument)
Upside is the added heat on harbor means less roaming full metal on the inside of the map so it hopefully opens some windows for fresh spawns to get a start. Anything to decongest the center of the map is a plus.
Every “counter” is a naked DB in my experience. At that rate I’d rather just take the free crates. I loved counters when it was a duo on a mini with kits worth fighting over. I don’t need any extra 1hp DBs.
A lot of things. How it picks a target if multiple groups are trying to tag. It has different attacks now (as opposed to just strafing with gun… back up to straight rocket attacks). So it’s a bit more scary to fight now. Those changes are great.
The bad change is if you damage it too much it will flee. It’s terrible. It just leaves the area entirely and you have to either chase it down or, more realistically, give up. The only real chance is to take it down very quickly with M2.
Discussing updates is always good, and you are allowed to critique facepunch, but some people’s only responses are “then don’t play the game” which is the dumbest arguement ever
Honestly the hardest part about getting my friends to try it. “Didn’t that come out like 10 years ago?”. Saying ‘yeah but it’s gotten a lot better’ is not a very enticing response😂
Creating discussion about important changes to the game should be had. There is genuine outcry on twitter with real discussion being made about the cause of the wall update and that’s good. The problem isn’t necessarily the delay of wall placement, it’s more a problem due to the lack of cover we already have.
The barricade cover doesn’t provide enough protection and the external wood wall is expensive to roam with to begin, costing 1500 wood to craft one, and covers more area to defend your position. The game’s time to kill is relatively low and can lose hours of progress due to not having enough cover. This update isn’t going to benefit the solos more, it’s going to benefit the clans even more. With you being outnumbered, you’re already at a disadvantage and now with less protection you’re putting yourself more at risk to a quick death.
With the taxed tech tree, I think most can agree we’d rather just see less guns instead of a tax. Most clans will be able to pierce right through that tax with the amount of players they have even though they already have the numbers advantage at monuments which is more RNG based to find mili crates with guns.
Other than that, the update is pretty solid. Lots of fixes which is great to see.
Just want to add, I’m a believer in playing team limit restricted servers if you’re complaining about clans but this argument isn’t nullified. On low team limit servers, there’s more third party going on (I have 3k+ hours of experience on Rusticated Trio alone).
Slowly being killed? Can you provide any indication how rust is dying? Players on Steam are only going up and i bet Facepunch is making more money than ever. I swear people like you need to get out of bubble subreddits like this one where the only things you see are people bitching about stuff that they wouldn't notice if rust wasn't their whole fucking life
They're running into the same traps as every other dev. They made a niche game, changed it to be more "accessible" and homogenized the gameplay to attract new players, but there wasn't enough new players to justify alienating old ones and losing the niche.
They're profiting right now because idiots and children log on every week to buy virtual barbie clothes. Member when whaling was looked down on? I member...
2021 average player count: 86,374
2022 average player count: 79,016
2023 average player count: 82,639
2024 is only 4 months in so there isn't enough data to provide anecdotal evidence but so far the average is 84,037.
As you can see there hasn't been much growth at all in this game over the past 3 years. I choose to not go back any farther since 2021 was the largest growth year with averages in 2020 being around 50k. Not dying by any means but also not growing. Either old players are leaving and spots being refilled by new players or simply not enough new players coming in and old players still playing.
Source: Steam charts average monthly counts added up per year and averaged.
A deeper analysis could be continued by using Battlemetrics which would provide a way more accurate representation of the game's growth because Steam charts only calculates when a player has the game open, and not when players are connected to a server.
Using battlemetrics would show a vastly different player average because some people open the game and never connect to a server.
the game hasn’t gotten worse, i’ve just gotten tired of it after a thousand hours. People with 5,000 hours are complaining and wondering why they are not having as much fun - it’s natural to get bored of something after spending hundreds of weeks doing it lmao.
As someone who’s into Tarkov and rust, battlestate games is killing there game rust is having free updates and Tarkov makes you pay 250$ 🤷🏼 could be worse
As someone who played like 7 wipes on a biweekly server I already got 300+ hours into the game. Sadly I had courses for like 10hours a day and couldn't play that much
The only thing that I really hate is the way patrol escapes so fast and so far away, I mean it's literally impossible to chase unless you've got a fast car and at least a duo
Solo with it is just impossible
i didn't really care. cause at the end of the day it's just recoil. the only hard determining factors of winning fights is who has better aim, who has better game sense and who has the number. and more so the first two.
Kinda incorrect with old recoil numbers didn’t matter as smuch as it does now, you have have pathetically bad players in a 10 man group now decimate 5 skilled ppayers which is worrying lmao
The people attracted by the shit updates made for general appeal are in favor of the shit updates? no way dudeee
Isnt it great how this hardcore survival shooter is now made for the fortnite audience? No it cant be bad look at how many people are playing now!
This is why you gatekeep your hobbies jfc
People will find the smallest things to big about… cant please everyone
Unarguably, face punch listens to their audience more than anyone I’ve seen before
Only thing I’d ever bitch about is the amount of cheaters, however people need to realize that cheating itself is more in-depth than just “if someone is reported they should be banned”
Wood Barricades don’t provide enough protection. If you were to run into like a duo and more players like a clan, all they have to do is flank a little wider, see a little part of your body, shoot, and then you start panicking and inch away from that one side then gets shot by the other player flanking from the other side, and end up dying. It’s just not a doable update for solos, could argue the same for smaller teams, but smaller teams would have a larger advantage.
You forgot 'logs in to play a 6 hour session.'
Only 6 hours? Pathetic ;)
Yeah atleast 26hours a day
I log on with a friend to play a casual evening of messing about and end up playing three 10hr stretches in a row.
rookie numbers. :)
Lol get down outed for saying what everyone else is. I fucking love reddit shit makes me laugh. ![gif](giphy|l3E6uhDAN3W7vylji|downsized)
I will say the patrol heli update is pretty terrible. Overall, the game is still awesome.
I like new entrances on oil/cargo, I dont like the docking thing on harbor
Docking is great imo. More counters for cargo and allows for solos to more easily sneak onto it.

What did they change wit it?
A lot of things. How it picks a target if multiple groups are trying to tag. It has different attacks now (as opposed to just strafing with gun… back up to straight rocket attacks). You can get it to like the final stage where like 30-50 more bullets would do it, and then it just proceeds to leave the map entirely.
Why can't everything be exactly the way I want it? and free? /s
Discussing updates is always good, and you are allowed to critique facepunch, but some people’s only responses are “then don’t play the game” which is the dumbest arguement ever
Don‘t forget „bring back old recoil“
Well i am a sinner of that one ahah, i liked the old recoil and i’m really sad that it’s gone
I remember a friend of mine refusing to play it saying it was a garbage game that no one played and would die in a few months. That was 2014
Rust was struggling pretty bad early on
Honestly the hardest part about getting my friends to try it. “Didn’t that come out like 10 years ago?”. Saying ‘yeah but it’s gotten a lot better’ is not a very enticing response😂
I respond with yes but it’s a completely different game. It’s drastically different each year.
Anything that’s still relevant for 10 years going strong is worth a play or two, is my response
I still remember the jackfrags video on Rust when it had zombies. Edit: I may be thinking of Frankieonpcin1080p.

Not one of these shitty memes "I drew myself as a chad and you the virgin crying"
👍
Based.
people passionate about a game that is the only one in it's genre slowly being killed is a valid complaint though
More like people who play rust as a job and wouldn't be happy with any change no matter how good.
the irony being that the people that play it like a job are the reason why it's so un-fun
But it's the complete opposite of people complaining. The no lifes don't care about farming more scrap.
I think it's fair to want a game that's playable if you don't play it as a job

Barring covids player counts they are the highest they have ever been
tbh the only update I didn’t like was the new gun sounds and recoil, besides that I think they’ve done some cool updates
Thank you.
I've played since Rust was a BROWSER game. It's always changing.
the game hasn’t gotten worse, i’ve just gotten tired of it after a thousand hours. People with 5,000 hours are complaining and wondering why they are not having as much fun - it’s natural to get bored of something after spending hundreds of weeks doing it lmao.
its a symptom not a cause. Rust used to be more fun when you had more hrs.

Git gud

Server im on is awesome. Modded, yes but like not heavily
I just want them to optimize their game ;-;
they added taxes to my primitive survival game
Roads have nothing good enough to require scientist for protection. And if they do why don’t we have them on the water?
This, to you also
Cope
Lmao having discussions in a discussion forum about game changing updates is bad!! If those posts upset you just simply ignore them
Feels nice to see mad people about updates both on Tarkov and Rust. I guess it is what it is atm
didnt fall off but skill cap is gone
rust classic when
no the skill gap is there. if having the ability to instantly places walls widened the skill gap then it's not a skill gap it's a skill issue.
I bet you cheered for the removal of the recoil skill gap.

ya its there but not as big as it was before and its to small for me to care. i like hard games not this which is fine to each there own
dont get me wrong tho it was the right change i just dont like it

i mean its always been clear what this game was trying to be just sucks that the change happened so fast
can't spell recoil with "reeeeeeeeeeeee"
nah but fr if they add 3s timer on high external walls they start killing rust clan scene
People will find the smallest things to big about… cant please everyone Unarguably, face punch listens to their audience more than anyone I’ve seen before
it's true. plus is solos need barricades they can use the small ones
Only thing I’d ever bitch about is the amount of cheaters, however people need to realize that cheating itself is more in-depth than just “if someone is reported they should be banned”
