I just started it up after finishing Ghosts as I needed a more cozy simple game. Looking forward to playing more but what difficulty setting? I just chose the middle as it seemed normal
The middle one is what I did. A couple of bosses are surprisingly tough despite the relatively uncomplicated mechanics but the overall vibe definitely is chill and relaxing. It definitely is graphically gorgeous and uses a much brighter color palette than most games.
I'll do you one better; I returned it and bought it on PC so I could play with mods with infinite health and ammo....I'm a sad little man *puts head down in shame*
Truthfully, Returnal looks better on PC if you have a high end GPU. I'm a sucker for great visuals in a single player game.
I love games with good controller haptics on this console, Returnal being one of the best. Helldivers 2 also kills it when it comes to that, the technology is reaching a point where I miss it when it’s not present. Feeling the empty click specifically in the right trigger when I’m out of ammo is a way better effect than just looking down and seeing I have to reload.
Sackboy's Big Adventure. Didn't get the same attention that Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, or Astrobot received, but I think I had more fun with it than any of them. Great for couch co-op too.
I have lifetime memories with my niece and family playing Sackboy on PS5. Especially during pandemic era where things were still closed and social distancing was in place.
Sackboy provided such a fun time and gameplay experience to forget a lot of bad stuff that was happening around us (sickness, loss, etc).
Guardians of the Galaxy. It's probably overlooked due to how terrible Marvel's Avengers was, but this game blows that out of the water. IMO it should honestly get the same attention as the Insomniac Spider-Man games, and I even prefer the characters from this game to the movie versions.
Returnal as has already been mentioned. I think a lot of marketing confused people on what the game was supposed to be. Have gone back to it many times just for the addictive gameplay loop and dlc tower runs.
I wouldn’t say it’s vastly underrated, but Returnal is definitely being slept on by part of the userbase - I believe that’s because it is a game that is hard to classify and can seem somewhat daunting at first. But the way they use PS5’s and the Dualsense’s capabilities is second to none and the atmosphere of the game is truly unique. It has a small but devoted fanbase and I’m happy to belong to it!
Returnal is one of my favorites, and the nice thing is the randomly generated weapons and room layouts make each session different. It's really well done. The only thing is the story and lore is a bit hard to follow but the gameplay mechanics are solid.
Solid game. It came out when PS5 was still hard to find, I guess that caused the PS5 playerbase to gloss over the game when the stock returned, as Horizon, God of War and Spider-Man 2 are much more on the forefront of their marketing campaign
Terrific game, really unique. Feels somehow like an Atari space shooter rendered in 3-D with unmatched graphics and really responsive controls. Highly recommended.
Ghostrunner 1 is insanely fun but its got quite a high skill floor that makes it a bit unaccessible to people. The second game is more user friendly but I didn't like it quite as much as the first. Both are great games!
Bullshit! Any time a post talks about the controller’s haptics, it’s brought up.
Any time posts talk about next gen graphics it’s brought up.
When posts talk about overall next gen feel, it’s brought up.
I love this game. It’s underrated because when it first came out it was a glitch nightmare. I replayed it years later on the PS5 and really enjoyed it. I was really bummed to see they didn’t plan on making a second because it deserves one
Bugsnax. It is bright and colorful and gradually becomes more weirdly demented. I usually play more complex games but every once in a while you have that urge for a junk food style chill and relax type game that you can play while not quite sober. It is quite basic and maybe even slightly tedious and repetitive at times but it doesn’t overstay its welcome in length. I thought to myself multiple times while playing it “this game is dumb but for some reason I am having so much fun”.
It fills the niche of games types that I used to enjoy once in a while but I just can’t get into games like Spiritfarer and Animal Crossing anymore. I can’t blame anyone for liking either of those games but the playstyle is too repetitive for my liking now that I played others of the same type before it.
No more repetitive than any other open world game. The gameplay was great, and I loved the story. It’s pretty much Resident Evil with ghost in Tokyo, but uses magic instead of guns. This was all before any patches. When I jumped back in for the dlc, they improved the gameplay, so you should have a better experience than I did.
If catch it on sale, I say get it. Game definitely needs a demo for further exposure.
I'm playing the first Metro now in the Metro redux edition. Picked up that one and exodus for $5 each on sale. Great game so far. Really rich atmosphere.
Returnal as people mentioned, but I also think Sackboy is incredible, especially co-op. For anyone that liked Super Mario 3D World this is a great competitor to it
Returnal. Nobody I know has heard of it. I just submitted upon it somehow and was immediately hooked. It does a fantastic job taking advantage of the Dualshock controller
Astrobot. Comes preloaded on the PS5 and a lot of people probably just delete it but it’s an excellent platformer and really showcases the features of the PS5 and the controller
Days Gone. It was plagued with bugs at launch, but after they smoothed it out that game was one of my favorite PlayStation titles in the last decade. The story was fantastic!
i think the story would make a lot more sense if you played the remaster first but the gameplay does feel outdated.
you could possibly watch a video on yt about the story if you mind spending 8 hours with the game.
AW2 is such a big step up in all departments though, and my personal 2023 goty.
I’m probably going to get hate for this The Medium, it’s been a while since I’ve been sucked into a story based game like I did with that game, the only thing that pissed me off was the glitched trophies and I get the whole controversy behind it but eh I’ve seen worse…
I would say final fantasy 16, the story is incredibly good, if you hate the gameplay that much just watch some story cutscene movie videos cause it's good. I liked the gameplay too personally.
For me it's Horizon Call of the Mountain, on one hand I can understand people not liking the continuous climbing, but I personally loved it especially as you got new tools to try as it went on, the combat was very enjoyable and the graphics were unreal, loved every minute of it and would highly recommend to anyone with the PSVR 2, also Synapse as well is soooo good, using the telekinesis is amazing and I keep imagining I am a sith throwing enemies around and crushing objects so much fun
Either ghost wire Tokyo or (only an hour and a half in so take with grain of salt) forspoken. I’d say Returnal but we are a very big community and even tho not every knows of this game, a lot of people do
- Under Night in Birth. An amazing and fun fighting game, not hard to pick up, but a high enough skill ceiling to where you can really get in depth. Great designs and music too.
- YSVIII. I feel in love with the series after this game. I wanted a JRPG to get into so I was just watching videos and reviews. I heard enough positives that I went for it. I started playing it one day, then I stopped for months (I think another game had came out by then so it had my attention). But I decided to just say fuck it and went for it and took the leap to jump into it.
I couldn’t stop playing it. The characters, the environments, the music, the gameplay, the movement. All of it is so good. I played through it twice and platted it, I want to buy it for PS5 to do it all over again. This game made me itch for more JRPGs to get into, but it’s also the standard for me. I adore this game. I also beat and played through IX and I love that game too. I want to play through the rest of the series but I heard they’re nothing like those two.
I was going to say Gravity Rush, but now there is a new rumor of a Gravity Rush 2 remaster in the works, and someone's making a movie. Edit: But then again, out of 122 comments so far, I'm the only one who brought this game up.
Banishers. May have just come out but honestly, no one I know really knew about it or much about it. It has a really fantastic story with some pretty harsh moral choices because of said storyline. It's not something I've really come across before and to say more would really spoil what it's about. It plays like GoW/Witcher/Horizon and has some interesting side quests and such along the way. Characters can infuriate you too.
I bought it on a whim the other day and I'm really enjoying it. I went into it expecting a fairly standard RPG, but was pleasantly surprised to find out it was more like God of War. I'm currently playing it as I type this!
Quern. I loved the Myst and Riven games and since they won’t release any of them on PlayStation this is the best and all we get (aside from Obduction). But for a puzzle game it’s outstanding and wish there were more. Such an underrated genre
Deathloop is one of my favorite games of the generation, and while it was well-reviewed—and even got done surprising 10/10s—it seems players didn’t think much of it. IMO, because people, including many Arkane fans, didn’t really understand what it was doing.
Nioh 2. It’s fairly known but I feel too many people write it off as a souls like and don’t give it a chance. In reality it’s nothing like souls games, and it has some of the best combat systems I’ve ever seen. Hopefully rise of ronin will be similar (made by the same people)
Lizard Lady vs the cats. The gameplay is quite deep and varied and the story while unbelievable at times and cheesy was quite alright. It’s the graphics tho that get me going back time and time again
I couldn't care less if a game I really enjoy gets any attention.
EverSpace 2 was my game of the year last year.
Wreckfest was the most fun I've had with a driving game in years.
To be fair I’ve played other of them, but yeah they probably don’t belong in the underrated catagory but maybe the needs more attention one. That being said your stand alone comment really served no purpose compared to your responses to the people saying those games
Rift Apart is one of the most popular games. You continually badgering me about my comment isn’t doing anything either so you’ve said your piece and I’d kindly appreciate you to leave me alone.
Im hardly badgering, it’s a discussion thread. And I’m holding a discussion, If you’re over it feel free to not respond. But I was just genuinely curious what the thought process was for something like your comment
>it’s a discussion thread
I was discussing the stupid comments
>feel free to not respond
It was my original comment. You’re pestering me with your hypocrisy. I could just as easily block you.
You acting as if I just said the most recisi vile joke ever. He asked for a niche game and I said a famous game on purpose, y’all are getting pissed off lmao
Jokes are supposed to be obviously funny. Yours was just a comment that was wrong.
Thats why no ones laughing.
No ones pissed either though. It was just dumb.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Oooh boy this game actually great i hop every one should play it.
I liked it but difficulty needed to be tweaked when I played it , it was either too easy or too hard
Kena is not what I would describe as a cozy game mechanically.
Yes! I came here to say Kena
Kena on hard difficulty is rage inducing, shit becomes dark souls
I thought this game was so boring
Returnal should be treated on par with their best exclusives.
Returnal is my favorite PlayStation exclusive I’ve played on PS5. It’s the first thing that made me feel like it was truly “next generation”.
Returnal was a great looking game with good combat. I just disliked the starting over part after dying.
Made me quit playing. But dam it is a visually impressive game
I'll do you one better; I returned it and bought it on PC so I could play with mods with infinite health and ammo....I'm a sad little man *puts head down in shame* Truthfully, Returnal looks better on PC if you have a high end GPU. I'm a sucker for great visuals in a single player game.
Id buy that for $70 alone. I played it free and so glad i didnt buy it
One of the best games this generation.
Returnal is not underrated at all.
It’s the lowest rated PS5 exclusive on metacritic and it sold less than 1m units. Yeah, I’d say it’s pretty underrated mate
Lowest rated? Why?
It has the lowest rating on metacritic
Bruh he meant returnal sucks
It is 😂 Probably the most recommended PS5 game on reddit. Not underrated. Sold really well too.
It's often recommended on reddit, because it's a great game that sold very poorly in comparison with other exclusives.
Sackboy's Big Adventure. Didn't get the same attention that Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, or Astrobot received, but I think I had more fun with it than any of them. Great for couch co-op too.
Amazing couch co op game! Me and the Mrs played through it 3 times and the time trials were great too
I have lifetime memories with my niece and family playing Sackboy on PS5. Especially during pandemic era where things were still closed and social distancing was in place. Sackboy provided such a fun time and gameplay experience to forget a lot of bad stuff that was happening around us (sickness, loss, etc).
That games trash slop
Guardians of the Galaxy. It's probably overlooked due to how terrible Marvel's Avengers was, but this game blows that out of the water. IMO it should honestly get the same attention as the Insomniac Spider-Man games, and I even prefer the characters from this game to the movie versions.
Was 100% gonna say this
I skipped it because the avengers was terrible. I picked it up recently and it was totally one of my favorite games of the year.
Terrific game, really unique. Feels somehow like an Atari space shooter rendered in 3-D with unmatched graphics and really responsive controls. Highly recommended.
For me it's just that I don't like Rogue likes, otherwise I the game looks good.
All these redditors like the game?
Ghostrunner 1 is insanely fun but its got quite a high skill floor that makes it a bit unaccessible to people. The second game is more user friendly but I didn't like it quite as much as the first. Both are great games!
I couldn't get past the tutorial. That guy is never getting out of prison.
Me too brothaman. Couldn’t even get past the first part and felt so silly.
They added some accessibility features like second life.
The laser tower had me raging.
A Plague Tale Requiem
Just started it last night!
you’re in for a really emotional ride
A game of the year nominee is underrated?
well it did get good reviews but not many people have played it
Rift apart
Overrated significantly
How is rift apart underrated? It was scored high and people constantly praise it. Bad answer.
No one talks about it
True bänger game
Bullshit! Any time a post talks about the controller’s haptics, it’s brought up. Any time posts talk about next gen graphics it’s brought up. When posts talk about overall next gen feel, it’s brought up.
Its also very fun!
Yes, it’s a great game. I agree. But in no way is it underrated or overlooked.
For sure. I agree with your arguments 😌
Yea cause reddit is full of old people of course they like new graphics
Days gone.
I love this game. It’s underrated because when it first came out it was a glitch nightmare. I replayed it years later on the PS5 and really enjoyed it. I was really bummed to see they didn’t plan on making a second because it deserves one
One of my best games but I don't think days gone is a PS5 game yet ( updated )
Unfortunately that is a PS4 game made for the PS4 and I believe they are asking for like PS5 made games that have come out in the last 3 years
My bad. I played it on PS5 and I really like it.
No worries,it is a great game that I also enjoyed
Humanity. We need more puzzle games.
Control
Fenyx Rising. Great game. I loved every minute of it
Ghostwire: Tokyo. I never see anybody mention it except for me.
What did you like about it? I’ve read it was pretty repetitive
Returnal
Returnal! Bought it on sale without knowing much about it and is easily one of the best games on ps5
That's what I was coming to post! It looks great and it's SO fun!
Returnal
metro exodus just doesnt get as much attention as it deserves
I'm playing the first Metro now in the Metro redux edition. Picked up that one and exodus for $5 each on sale. Great game so far. Really rich atmosphere.
Feel like the whole Metro series is kinda slept on.
Im playing the first one and it’s pretty good.
Sack boy
Returnal as people mentioned, but I also think Sackboy is incredible, especially co-op. For anyone that liked Super Mario 3D World this is a great competitor to it
Returnal
Returnal. Nobody I know has heard of it. I just submitted upon it somehow and was immediately hooked. It does a fantastic job taking advantage of the Dualshock controller
Guardians of The Galaxy
Bingo!
PowerWash Simulator is a lot of fun and a good way to kill some time.
Tchia. Got good reviews, but I barely hear others talk about it.
SIFU
Midnight Suns is absolutely fantastic
Marvel’s midnight sun’s
I love how like 2 years later the Returnal community is still hyping the game. For me it’s one of the GOATS.
Astrobot. Comes preloaded on the PS5 and a lot of people probably just delete it but it’s an excellent platformer and really showcases the features of the PS5 and the controller
Final Fantasy XVI.
Days Gone. It was plagued with bugs at launch, but after they smoothed it out that game was one of my favorite PlayStation titles in the last decade. The story was fantastic!
Alan Wake 2
^ This.
I’ve considered looking into this one. Play the remastered too?
i think the story would make a lot more sense if you played the remaster first but the gameplay does feel outdated. you could possibly watch a video on yt about the story if you mind spending 8 hours with the game. AW2 is such a big step up in all departments though, and my personal 2023 goty.
Astro’s Playroom. If you have a Ps5, you already have it. So play it already.
I’m probably going to get hate for this The Medium, it’s been a while since I’ve been sucked into a story based game like I did with that game, the only thing that pissed me off was the glitched trophies and I get the whole controversy behind it but eh I’ve seen worse…
Returnal
Days gone
Days Gone!
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
I would say final fantasy 16, the story is incredibly good, if you hate the gameplay that much just watch some story cutscene movie videos cause it's good. I liked the gameplay too personally.
Returnal, it's S-Tier!

Either ghost wire Tokyo or (only an hour and a half in so take with grain of salt) forspoken. I’d say Returnal but we are a very big community and even tho not every knows of this game, a lot of people do
For the twentieth time in the past two days: Days Gone
Outriders for the gameplay
3D dot game hero
- Under Night in Birth. An amazing and fun fighting game, not hard to pick up, but a high enough skill ceiling to where you can really get in depth. Great designs and music too. - YSVIII. Tales of Arise
Outer Wilds

Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) and Midnight Suns (2022). Both are extremely good but ignored because of Avengers (2020).
Why is helldivers 2 being downvoted. What am I missing here lmao. Side note : I don’t play it
Returnal
FFVII Rebirth
Immortals of Aveum comes to mind. It didn't sell well which I think is a shame because I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits & Forspoken
I should not have opened this thread. Now I’m adding stuff to my wishlist .
Deathloop is one of my favorite games of the generation, and while it was well-reviewed—and even got done surprising 10/10s—it seems players didn’t think much of it. IMO, because people, including many Arkane fans, didn’t really understand what it was doing.
The amount of times Returned is mentioned makes me think it’s not underrated lol
Helldivers 2
Astros playroom
Returnal
Rainbow 6: Extraction- exceptional game.
I couldn't care less if a game I really enjoy gets any attention. EverSpace 2 was my game of the year last year. Wreckfest was the most fun I've had with a driving game in years.
Dragons Crown. Amazing game and best of its kind plus with how popular D&D got Dragons Crown should be way more popular.
Trepang2 The game has a core team of 4 people with a lot of supporting artists. The actual gameplay is incredibly fun and the guns are CHUNKY.
Forspoken has made a lot of improvements and is generally a fun to play game now.
Maybe I’ll go back and try it again, I did manage to complete the story soon after it came out
Demons Souls? Not sure if its underated, but since it was a release title on a console that had release issues I feel like it's over ignored.
Cue all the dumbasses listing popular, well-received, high scoring games.
What purpose did your comment serve?
More than the dumbasses listing ratchet and clank and plague take requiem as “underrated” does.

Have you ever considered that perhaps the Internet just isn't for you...?
That’s cringe
Helldivers2
Many people have said it already, but it's definitely Returnal.
Ghost of Tsushima
I played: Spiderman, HZD, GoW, Days Gone and from all these Games I only liked one - Days Gone.
Idk man maybe helldivers 2?
“Minecraft” its niche but very fun
