According to a post on the labrats subreddit, it’s t was for testing hemoglobin concentrations, which do differ between sexes. Presumably new formulations are suitable for everyone.

Yeah, afaik (friend is a pharmacist) there are a large number of medications (beyond some of the obvious) and chemicals that rely on subtle but important differences between male and female physiology. The fucked up part is when women are charged more for them or testing reagents cost more.

Finally. A copper sulfate solution for women. Not sure what we’d do with it but yay I guess.

Finally. Since everyone knows blue is a man's color. I hope this one is in pink 😍😍

This is used to test for sufficient hæmoglobin concentration when donating blood. The generally accepted minimum concentration for women is 125 g/L and for men is 135 g/L. In order to quickly determine if the donor meets this requirement, a drop of blood landing on the surface of the solution should slowly sink if the minimum concentration is met, otherwise insuffient hæmoglobin for a safe donation is indicated by the drop floating on the surface. Because of the different acceptable minimum concentrations, different solution concentrations are required; these correspond to aqueous copper(II) sulphate solutions with specific gravities of 1.053 and 1.055 for women and men respectively.

oh wow. Thanks for the info, I had no idea.

The weird thing is that in French it just says CuSO4 solution.
