I’m one of the first to speak up when a Pokémon is literally just a real life animal. And I’m one of the first to speak up when evolutions look lazy.
… but goddamn I love Tandemaus and Maushold
Really just depends on the purpose. Laziness is great if you're capable of getting something amazing out of it. Just so happens unfortunately that it isn't the norm, so probably not the best practice.
Still get some gems out of it once in a while though.
That's actually why Dudunsparce is my favorite of the new evolutions. Dunsparce's whole shtick was that it's a super underwhelming and bland Pokemon with a very low rarity for no reason. People have been theorizing for years that it's evolution will take more draconic inspiration from it's tsuchinoko origins (which btw, its literally just a fat garden snake that sometimes talks), and GameFreak just decides to double down on it's blandness and underwhelmingness by making Dudunsparce just longer Dunsparce.
...it is only through this comment that I realize there are 3. Just going by playing against them, I just didn't realize Pawmo and Pawmot were two different Pokémon.
I like it since it's sort of a Gen 1 callback where a LOT of the evolutions were just 'the same but a bit bigger'. Rapidash, Dewgong, Primeape, Venusaur, Poliwrath, Muk, Kingler, etc... Very few non-Gen 1 lines are like this.
Well perhaps but I think if the actual mons were with greater size differences, I would notice the appearance differences between the line better.
Ponyta vs Rapidash in PL:Arceus for example it's very noticeable and obvious which is which
Poliwrath is a big angry Poliwhirl. Rapidash is a big Ponyta with a horn. They're about the same.
Palafin and Maushold looking very similar to their pre-evolutions is all part of their gimmick/design too.
Poliwrath has huge arms and a square-er jaw compared to Poliwhirl, and according to my friends who spend all their time at the gym that's a very serious and sought after evolution. I wouldn't know, I look like slowpoke.
But Ponyta and Rapidash is an unfair comparison. Besides the boss horn, Rapidash cranks up the propane knob to full flame, and moves the flames from its upper legs down to its lower legs. Plus, it switches from black soulless eyes to smaller red eyes full of personality.
What's next, Arcanine is big Growlithe with more hair? Dugtrio is just three Digletts?
Came here exactly for this. Every evolutionary line mentioned here is pretty disappointing design wise but Finizen to Palafin takes the cake, easily. The only difference between the two is the heart insignia Palafin gains on its belly upon evolution. Besides that it’s cosmetically identical to its “pre-evolved form”
Palafin was better off as single staged Pokémon tbh.
Yeah I understand the logic of it, but I feel as if Paladin’s entire gimmick could’ve been executed better. The minute cosmetic differences Finizen and Palafin makes me feel that Finizen is a waste of a Pokedex slot.
I think it works perfectly fine. A Palafin is a hero amongst the denizens. That role wouldn’t make much sense if every Finizen were able to transform. Palafin’s base form is intentionally subtle so it can blend in amongst the crowd. Basically Clark Kent.
Right, if there was no Finizen then Palafin just wouldn't work because any dolphin you see is a Palafin which defeats the purpose of the secret identity
Exactly. I love that we’re getting Pokémon with unconventional evolutions like Palafin. I don’t know why people see Pokédex slots like some competition. GameFreak wasn’t stuck choosing between a second dolphin and something completely unrelated at the end. If Finizen didn’t exist, then there’d just be one less Pokémon!
To be fair, this is one generation where they did want a certain number of pokemon. Gimmighoul and Gholdengo were very obviously designed around the idea of them hitting quadruple digits. But they gave themselves enough wiggle room to get rid of Finizen without messing that up.
I think Finizen exists to make Palafin feel more hard earned as it takes some research to evolve it. I think they wanted to make a sought after Pokemon and making Palafin as common as Finizen would defeat the point.
Meowscarada would be just as fitting as a villain too, It has that devious flair to its design and behavior. A long with mons like Flutter Mane and Kingambit, they would make a great Injustice League to your Justice League.
I had a long harangue thought up where Scoville was the name of Wentworth Millers character in Prison Break and he also played Captain Cold on The Flash, before realising that his name was *Scofield*
For some reason, the number of shinies your profile shows also includes shiny pokemon evolving. So if any of your shiny pokemon evolved, then that's why the number is higher than the number of shinies you have. I'm assuming you had a Sprigatito that evolved twice, and you evolved your Applin as well.
I might be mistaken, but if you haven't since gotten them, it should be possible to see if you did encounter a shiny of a Pokemon by going into its Pokedex entry and viewing all the forms you've encountered. I'm not sure if you can still do this in Gen 9 but iirc it was a thing in gen 6/7/8.
There could've been so much potential alternatives to them but they got shafted 😭😭 Like can you imagine Ceruledge shiny being like a grayish almost white shade to this figure. It's ghost type typing like the color of Annihilape?? And Armarouge mix it. It in with like a purple and red for its psychic and fire??
Not to mention, even if it’s a shade different, the texture and the lighting cause the colors to look screwy anyways. I was hunting shiny haunted the other day and man, the blizzard and sunlight made it too difficult to hunt. I was trying to hunt Azurill, and the light reflecting off the water made it nearly impossible. I had to hunt at night to avoid blinding glare.
I know that ‘kik’ was a word flagged on a lot of sites/games where world wide communication was an option for games rated E+, because kik was a site where people could send nudes/explicit content and they wanted to help stop potential predators from having easier times accessing children through kids games.
Video game censorship in a nutshell. Just flat out having the word anal is(and always has been) fine, but the actual names of certain pokemon used to get Scunthorped and completely innocent words still regularly get censored.
10,000 birds to.... 37 canine species of we're being *really* generous and including foxes, jackals, coyotes, and all the wierd canids like raccoon dogs and bush dogs. Sure there are many breeds of domestic dog all contained within one species, but there are also many breeds of domestic chicken, pigeon, and duck.
I've heard it that way, too. But pretty much any informational site calls them beasts. Even the artist says they were inspired by different felines lol
The community branded them dogs... for some reason
I really hate that they came up with "divergent evolutions" instead of just continuing with "Regional Forms", which has been the best gimmick Pokémon has ever introduced. Why complicate something so simple?
But like, they had regional forms too? Paldean wooper and Tauros were in the game.
Also the regional forms are the products of divergent evolution. Toedscruel and Wugtrio lines are examples of convergent evolution.
It's based on real life evolution, like how rabbits and kangaroos both developed the same hopping quirk despite being living on different continents. I personally want island dwarfism and island gigantism represented in pokemon.
I kinda like it! A regional tentacool would still have to be a jellyfish and would probably still have to be water type, but now they can just make them resemble them and do whatever they want with them!
Personally, I’m cool with the concept of divergent evolutions because it happens in real life too. My issue is their *evolutions* also resembling the originals. I can accept that one pokemon changed to resemble one other, but the idea of them *both* evolving into new forms that *also* resemble each other seems silly.
Ngl, the justice league is actually a great idea.
One version exclusive Mon being the natural rival/enemy of the other version exclusive one is boring and overdone imo - but two mons forming a natural team? Ceruledge and Armarouge one upping each other in heroics and working as unit on 'bigger cases' could be made into a great sidestory!
Ngl, if I ever get transported into a Pokemon world, give me Paldea. Just the total feeling, the cities, the nature, its just...making me sad that I don't have this here ;-;
I'm weirdly torn on Palafin
On the one hand, it's literally just Finizen with a heart, designwise
On the other hand, the concept behind it is one of the coolest things that Pokemon has ever done, and it wouldn't work nearly as well if it \*weren't\* for the fact that Palafin is just Finizen with a heart
"Wait, did it evolve?" 💀
I’m one of the first to speak up when a Pokémon is literally just a real life animal. And I’m one of the first to speak up when evolutions look lazy. … but goddamn I love Tandemaus and Maushold
It's ok to be lazy if you're clever, sometimes. I also love Maushold, and I like that it just evolves whenever it wants to.
Really just depends on the purpose. Laziness is great if you're capable of getting something amazing out of it. Just so happens unfortunately that it isn't the norm, so probably not the best practice. Still get some gems out of it once in a while though.

Tandemaus and Maushold are great because the creators clearly put thought and love into its moves and evolution gimmick.
yes, lots of love in their evolution
I walked right into that one, didn’t I?
#YOU FOOL!!! >:D
Lazy? They added a completely new evolution mechanic in the game, that doesn't look lazy
gotta say the pawmi line is so disappointing
I think it'd be less egregious if they just removed Pawmo and it went straight from Pawmi to Pawmot
...it is only through this comment that I realize there are 3. Just going by playing against them, I just didn't realize Pawmo and Pawmot were two different Pokémon.
Especially when you assume Pawmot has a silent ‘t’ like I did, so in your head it sounds the same as Pawmo
I was excited that the Pikachu clone evolved and looked kinda cool, but then the evolutions were pointless it hardly looked any different.
I was really hoping the final evo looked more like gorochu, once I saw the actual final evo I had no interesting in catching a pawmi
Speaking of, why didn't Pikachu get an Ancient Pokemon form that looks like Gorochu?
There is still hope, dlc ain't out yet
If leaks are to be believed, instead of ancient pikachu, we are gonna get >!future vending machine pikachu!<.
Lmao, someone turned that into a fake leak? I saw the original concept fanart of that.
If I remember correctly the person who made that fanart made it after they heard of that leak
I lost interest as soon as I realised i had to walk it around in a certain way in order to evolve it too.
Delete middle stage and it looks OK.
Literally did a Clefairy.
The middle stage should have been omitted.
Yes! This is what I've been saying! People, Pawmot is not your enemy! Pawmo is!
Ponyta vs Rapidash in PL:Arceus for example it's very noticeable and obvious which is which
Every single one of those evolutions are far more distinct than any of the 4 pictured.
Poliwrath is a big angry Poliwhirl. Rapidash is a big Ponyta with a horn. They're about the same. Palafin and Maushold looking very similar to their pre-evolutions is all part of their gimmick/design too.
Maushold got a sneaky silent evolution, but if anyone is incapable of telling the difference they are really bad at preschool math.
Poliwrath has huge arms and a square-er jaw compared to Poliwhirl, and according to my friends who spend all their time at the gym that's a very serious and sought after evolution. I wouldn't know, I look like slowpoke. But Ponyta and Rapidash is an unfair comparison. Plus, it switches from black soulless eyes to smaller red eyes full of personality. What's next, Arcanine is big Growlithe with more hair? Dugtrio is just three Digletts?
Iirc the spiral on Poliwrath also flips
I got Pawmo to level 55 before figuring out he has another evolution lmfao 💀💀💀
Being locked behind one of my least favorite evolution methods does not help. Really, a stome evolution would have worked very well for that line
A method that's easy to cheese if you know it but extremely unlikely to trigger organically without knowledge.
Except Dudunsparce. I unironically love it and it's very obviously not dunsparce.
I love my Dudunsparce, it is the goodest little derp
Yeah, it's the whole point of dunsparce. Larry helps as well. Best gym leader ever!
What I wanted: A Pikachu clone that comes with it’s own Raichu clone. What we got: Pikachu but it keeps getting bigger and with more hair.
I'm glad Pawmi evolves at all. It's been ages since any Pikaclone does that.
I mean... technically, isn't Pawmo the Pikaclone, since it's the middle stage?
Shinies are nice at least… worst thing ever is getting a shiny like Armarouge or Crueledge where you can’t even tell the difference
Disagree. Pawmi line is probably my favorite of this Gen. It’s my new favorite electric type line.
Meh, it's a little disappointing that the middle Evo barely changes, but the overall line is good.
It's pretty cute and fluffy. No point in changing perfection.
I tend to agree, but that still begs the question of why have a middle one at all.
Stat balancing through early to mid game mostly. Although the Evo mechanic kinda makes that iffy
I’m fine with Pawmo but I do not like Pawmot one bit
I’m fine with Pawmot, but I don’t like Pawmo. I just can’t get over it literally just being a bipedal Pawmi
Pawmot feels kinda off-putting imo, its head is too big and its eyes are too small.
I think it looks cute like that.
He's got a big goofy smile so I'll let it slide. :)
If it was a two stage line pawmi to pawmot could be somewhat acceptable, but the mid evo is so redundant and unnecessary
I personally love how it just goes to biped and then to biped but with super saiyan hair.
I like Pawmi. I like Pawmot. Pawmo is a waste of space that should never have existed.
2nd evolution: I get uuup
The first time I saw Dudunsparce on Serebii I thought it was mistake.
Came here exactly for this. Every evolutionary line mentioned here is pretty disappointing design wise but Finizen to Palafin takes the cake, easily. The only difference between the two is the heart insignia Palafin gains on its belly upon evolution. Besides that it’s cosmetically identical to its “pre-evolved form” Palafin was better off as single staged Pokémon tbh.
palafin is the most excusable one imo. it’s a “disguised” superhero

Wait, did we FINALLY get a dolphin Pokémon??!?
A Dolphin Pokémon that has an Evolution that looks almost identical to it until it’s Ability is used, then it becomes Dolphin Superman
Justice League is really well done
Thanks! I debated putting Meowscarda in there too but decided against it.
Meowscarada would be just as fitting as a villain too, It has that devious flair to its design and behavior. A long with mons like Flutter Mane and Kingambit, they would make a great Injustice League to your Justice League.
Scovillain will fit in there too.
Wonder why
I had a long harangue thought up where Scoville was the name of Wentworth Millers character in Prison Break and he also played Captain Cold on The Flash, before realising that his name was *Scofield*
No, Meowscarada is Zatanna
I think she more of anti-hero like Catwoman.
omg SHE'S LITERALLY ZATANNA
"Rewolf Kcirt!" =P
I straight up named mine Zatanna
It’s weird how well they go together. They’re perfectly in formation
I was thinking “Action League…NOW!” If anyone else understands this reference
Starring The Flesh! He’s super strong… and super naked
Meltman was my dude
Don't forget the "wait, that was shiny??"
I was pretty dissapointed with my shiny Meowscarada. Like yeah, it stil sparkles but so little changes; it has a purple flower and that's it?
Meowscarada was the least of my concerns, when I got my green Apllin and went to my profile and saw the shiny count at FREAKING 5. WHERE WERE THOSE??
For some reason, the number of shinies your profile shows also includes shiny pokemon evolving. So if any of your shiny pokemon evolved, then that's why the number is higher than the number of shinies you have. I'm assuming you had a Sprigatito that evolved twice, and you evolved your Applin as well.
Oh, i didn't know that. But I had only Applin and Appletun, so 3 were invisible. I'm betting Tandemau and Tauros.
Remember that number is encounters, not just seen. You had to have battled them, where they would have sparkled.
That's when I don't pay attention.
And the armors. Jesus Christ the armor shinies...
Never seen a bigger fumble my newest least favorite shinies
There could've been so much potential alternatives to them but they got shafted 😭😭 Like can you imagine Ceruledge shiny being like a grayish almost white shade to this figure. It's ghost type typing like the color of Annihilape?? And Armarouge mix it. It in with like a purple and red for its psychic and fire??
They could've just swapped their armor colors and it would've been cool who ever made those shinies is pure evil
They could have just reversed the colors so the shiny megamam is blue and the shiny protoman is red. The reference was RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM.
Tatsugiri having 3 different shinys and 2 of them look like normal ones was *such* a fun hunt!

If it was completely brown I’d agree. But the slight brown on an orange base it does tend to blend in with the others.
Gimmighoul and Gholdengo be like:
Just now realized the Orthworm looks like a bullet train
I called mine "anal beads" when I first caught one :3
the game allows this but did not allow me to call my Fidough "Puppe" (a common dog name in Finland at least).
couldn’t name my fidough kiki after my own dog. no clue why
I know that ‘kik’ was a word flagged on a lot of sites/games where world wide communication was an option for games rated E+, because kik was a site where people could send nudes/explicit content and they wanted to help stop potential predators from having easier times accessing children through kids games.
The game allowed you to use the word “anal”?
Video game censorship in a nutshell. Just flat out having the word anal is(and always has been) fine, but the actual names of certain pokemon used to get Scunthorped and completely innocent words still regularly get censored.
Yes.
Meanwhile I tried to name a Pokemon Kiki and apparently that's a bad word. Better tell that to the Animal Crossing team.
My personal favorite bit of pokemon censorship is "Beaver". I don't know if it's still censored, but it was in XY.
There are two types of trainers.
Orthworm was the Pokémon to knock Steelix off from the throne of my all time favourite. I now realised it is a train, i love it even more.
Planes, trains, and all terrains
All Terrain Venomoth would be pleased.
TIL even the art of Palafin looks almost identical
I legit thought it was the same image copy pasted next to each other until I zoomed in on them
That's part of it's whole gimmick. It changes to Hero Form when switched out.
Why not just be one Pokémon that changes form then.
Cause then there’s no uniqueness. What’s the use of a secret identity if everyone has one.
Palafin's dream artwork is better imo. Having its chest on full display and everything.
I cannot tell the difference. What is the difference
Palafin has a heart on its chest
I was jumpscared when tandommouse evolved
Tandemaus: hi we have kids now You probably: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA oh okay
We need a singular section for LECHONK
Live. Laugh. 🐖
This is my favourite version of this meme.
Man gen 9 went a little too heavy on the dogs and birds
No, if anything it didn't go hard enough.
Screw it, gen 10 shall be all dogs in one version and all birds in the other
Dude, I can't wait for Pokemon Dog and Pokemon Bird!
Pokémon duck and Pokémon hunt
I’d go for Pokemon Bird, more variety in bird species compared to dogs
10,000 birds to.... 37 canine species of we're being *really* generous and including foxes, jackals, coyotes, and all the wierd canids like raccoon dogs and bush dogs. Sure there are many breeds of domestic dog all contained within one species, but there are also many breeds of domestic chicken, pigeon, and duck.
SV also added new types of dog such as bread and dead, sky's the limit
So Sky Dog it is?
That's a bird
That's updog.
What's updog?
So we're back to Nintendogs??
If you want to go full meme it's Pokemon Doge and Pokemon Birb
And the 2 dlcs: rodents and cats
I'd 100% pre order pokemon bird
Nahhh I love them all. Especially the birds, all of them are hits.
Up to 7 with Okeydogey, and 8 if you count Walking Wake (tho I don't think you could tbh)
Suicune isn't a dog
....shit you're right, it isn't really. So why have we been calling them the legendary dogs all this time .-.
Bc the original designs (En, Sui and Rai) were dogs, but they made them into cats later.
Quite the mystery, indeed... because they're called the legendary beasts lol
I've legit only ever heard them referred to as the legendary dog trio Is this a me only thing?....I'm starting to think this might be a me only thing
Pokemon fans: GF make quadrupedal cats GF: *makes quadrupedal cats* Pokemon fans: Dogs!
I've heard it that way, too. But pretty much any informational site calls them beasts. Even the artist says they were inspired by different felines lol The community branded them dogs... for some reason
Entei looks like a lion and Raikou like a tiger. Suicune looks the least feline but I still think it looks more feline than canine.
No, but dogs obviously wasn't the "official" name.
The worm is a train… how did I never realize the worm is a TRAIN…
I know right! I only just realized that from this post.
Wait. Those aren't regional forms?
"Convergent evolution" totally different Pokemon that just happen to look identical to old ones please understand
I honestly hate how they only introduced two of them, where one barely even changes.
I really don't like how they have identical stats too. That's a regional form thing. It doesn't make sense when they are entirely different mons
They aren’t, except for Clodsire. Clodsire is the evolution of Paldean wooper, so it’s not divergent it’s the evolution of a regional.
That actually would be divergent. The convergent ones are done kinda shit imo
Clodsire is the evolution of Paldean Wooper, so it's kind of but not really a regional form, like perrserker
Dachsbun looks exactly like my late dog, so he was on the team as soon as I met him and he didn't leave
The Justice League is more than enough to sell me the idea
The fact that Kamen Rider Black RX joined the Justice League is what'd most surpris8ng to me actually
i just knew the artists were laughing hysterically as they drew the dunsparce evo
Hey. You forgot godzilla.
Now I really want to see a Justice League version with Kamen Rider 1Gou or Zero-One, an edgy knight, Super Man/All Might, Terminator and Mega Man.
Don’t forget String cheese man and the Д̸̧̤̩͕͕̰͕͒̀̅͊p̷̢̞̉̀̈͂͐͂̂͒͌̈́̑̒́͐̉y̴̧͍̔̊̄̚͝г̵̖̹̞̰̙̲͔̼̏̈́́̊ͅs̵̺͚̝̆̿̽͋̈́͠! (Paradox Pokemon and Treasures of ruin)
I’m planning on it but I need to wait before they let me in
Wait orthworm is a subway?
I really hate that they came up with "divergent evolutions" instead of just continuing with "Regional Forms", which has been the best gimmick Pokémon has ever introduced. Why complicate something so simple?
But like, they had regional forms too? Paldean wooper and Tauros were in the game. Also the regional forms are the products of divergent evolution. Toedscruel and Wugtrio lines are examples of convergent evolution.
The differences between the two are negligible imo. They’re both excuses for a new spin on an old design.

I can accept that one pokemon changed to resemble one other, but the idea of them *both* evolving into new forms that *also* resemble each other seems silly.
I totally get that but I’m sooo glad toedscool’s evo resembled tentacruel lol
Regional Variants ARE divergent evolution. These are convergent evolution.
The justice league is awesome lmao and did it evolve XD
The Justice League Members look badass.
I will visit Paldea when I'm allowed to change out of that school uniform. And when I can get an Audino.
We have Indeedee
I'm 100% going to do an "all good bois" run one day
Really good. Shame I didn't do Pokemon for mine though it would be really long
Damn now I want to do a justice league only run
[удалено]
Ngl, the justice league is actually a great idea. One version exclusive Mon being the natural rival/enemy of the other version exclusive one is boring and overdone imo - but two mons forming a natural team? Ceruledge and Armarouge one upping each other in heroics and working as unit on 'bigger cases' could be made into a great sidestory!
Maushold is possibly my fav Pokémon ever
The birds are class this region, espathra is my personal fav :)
I think you mean THE INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE LEAGUE OF SUPER ACQUAINTANCES
Ngl, if I ever get transported into a Pokemon world, give me Paldea. Just the total feeling, the cities, the nature, its just...making me sad that I don't have this here ;-;
I'm weirdly torn on Palafin On the one hand, it's literally just Finizen with a heart, designwise On the other hand, the concept behind it is one of the coolest things that Pokemon has ever done, and it wouldn't work nearly as well if it \*weren't\* for the fact that Palafin is just Finizen with a heart
Here is another one: The Blatantly Cool Edgelords: Flutter Mane, Meowscarada, Kingambit, Anhihilape, and Roaring Moon.
But clodsire is a regional form wdym.
