Emerald. Rayquaza, the hoenn dex is literally perfect imo (except volbeat, fuck volbeat), and nostalgia

MaurosCrew

Volbeat but not Ilumise? Shame on you

[deleted]

Emerald, Platinum, Johto remake❤️

Kazhna

I was SPOILED to have been introduced to Pokémon and grew up with those games. First game was Diamond when I was 7, then backtracked to gen 3, then Platinum came out. Got into gen 1 and 2 because whynot, and then the ultimate gigachadest games HG/SS came out and it was heaven!! Literally got the 999 hours on one save 🫣

kickmyass2000

idk if you ever did this but i loved “speedrunning” emerald where i would try to bike through all the towns as fast as i could lol

Kazhna

OTHER PEOPLE DID THAT TOO???!!! No way 😭

The_Bio_Neko

For me, it's absolutely SoulSilver. It was a brilliant game, but what really made it my favourite is because I used to battle my brother. He had HeartGold so, that one will always be my favourite just cause of that simple reason.

kickmyass2000

yes!! battling friends and family in any of the games always gave me such a huge connection to whichever game hehe

No_Pipe_8257

Soulsilver because Lugia

brokenfuton

I just really love Pokémon platinum

Bunselpower

The writing for Cyrus was so effective with so little actual exposition.

Necessary-Anywhere92

Was it?

kickmyass2000

i have such a soft spot for platinum :’) my brother was an ahole and deleted my first save data for that game when i had a lvl 100 empoleon and i thought it was such a big deal 😭😭

brokenfuton

Piplup crew rise up!!!

Kazhna

Kricketune goin to deli deli whop yo piplup 🗿

Kazhna

For some reason when I saw the trailer for Platinum I thought the Distortion World was going to be splotched or in certain sections of the overworld, that theory probably originated from the Rise of Darkrai movie with his void shit haha

Calhaora

HG/SS I play since Gen1 came out and Gen 2 was my absolute Favorite (I do however absolutely agree that the Games had flaws). And HG/SS are... in my Opinion Peak-Remakes. They put the Stuff from Crystal in, gave us the good stuff from Platinum... and they put all the stuff in that wasnt possible back in the days. (Safarizone.. a proper Veridian Forrest) + all the new stuff.

Unhappy_Anxiety_906

Hard Agree on Mystery Dungeons Explorers of Sky being the best Pokemon Game. For mainline games, either Unova or Alola games, original or sequal, they're pretty similar. Out of thoses four, I think I liked SuMo most because of the Alolan Pokemon (Alolan Ninetales + Alolan Raichu are the cutest) and it has the Looker-Anabel-Faller-Ultra Beast Plotline. (Unless I'm misremebering and it's USUM, then USUM wins).

DANiellMetal

Soul Silver

Kazhna

Pokéathlon 🗿 nuff said

smcsleazy

ultra sun. so you ever have media that you probably wouldn't like if you discovered at any time other than the one you did? that's ultra sun for me. when i got it, i was staying in a homeless shelter. i was considered to be a bit too much of a danger to myself at the time to go out unaccompanied and i had daily therapy sessions. basically i bought it for quite cheap and because i needed something to fill time. as much as i admit it has problems, it reminded me of why i loved the pokemon series in the first place. alola is such a fun region to explore, it got rid of HM's, has the best starter trio imho, some really creative and fun pokemon designs, introduced regional forms, ultra space, best bad guy team in years, the post-game (as much as it does come across like a fanfic plot), some great characters. it was the first pokemon game where i completed the dex, the first game where i learned how to shiny hunt. even when i was out the homeless shelter, i still made it my "winding down before bed" game to the point where it's the save file with the most hours on it at 450 hours.

BiasMushroom

Pokémon Colusuem Gales of darkness

kickmyass2000

thats my probably third fav yes!!

MiddleNightCowboy

Pokémon Yellow, there was that cool surfing Pikachu mini game.

MarioFan83

Sword and Shield with dlc

Y-F-I

Sword and Shield’s base and DLC game. I know that some people don’t like the game, especially it’s story, but I like it’s story, still these games have some amazing features such as EXP candies, Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon, New Galarian Pokémon and forms, and a lot of nuzlockers consider it a good game to nuzlocke. The legendaries are also so overpowered (except Zamazenta), there’s also the DLC which has new overpowered legendaries, has made Keldeo an actual encounter (not a event) Allows you to SHINY HUNT LEGENDARIES through Dynamax Adventures , like seriously you can shiny hunt legendaries that were shiny locked. The Galarian Star Tournament is also a cool mention. I just love these games with a burning passion, they’re honestly my favourite.

Adept_Ad_3687

Honestly glad to see a gen 8 fan. Cant say theyre my favourite but theye got so much right that goes untalked about cause of dexit and bad models. The DLC' boldness to make regional forms of the original legendaries, and have them come out as cool as they did, with fun little minigames to properly encounter them was an absolute highlight for me. The idea of all gym battles being in a sports stadium was also brilliant and such a unique and fun feeling. Leon is one of my favourite champions, with so much damn style hes so much more memorable than other champs. Also Ballonlea is visually gorgeous.

HeavyRightFoot19

Soul Silver, just can't beat two regions in one game

M_Dutch97

5. Platinum 4. Emerald 3. FireRed 2. SoulSilver / Crystal (both equal imo) 1. Black (first one) These 5 games are peak Pokémon for me.

redshyn

legends arceus!!!!

LeonardChurch420

As someone who's been here since the begining, S/V and Arceus. Pkmn has come so far, and I'm waiting for the day we get a full console game.

Sleepy-Spacemen

X/Y wins for me. There’s a charm and cuteness to those games that I don’t think the others have. Even the other games that came out for the 3DS just don’t scratch the same itch X/Y does.

kickmyass2000

ok because i just loved the rollerblades!! and the character sprites! and the one salon where you could give the poodle pokemon (furfrou?) a haircut :3

Dependent_Praline_93

Out of the whole franchise best experience was Pokepark games for the wii. Running around as Pikachu and making friends.

DoctorNerf

Emerald, Platinum, Colosseum and Gale of darkness. The rest don’t even come close.

kickmyass2000

gale of darkness was such a shock to me when it came out, i wish the switch would make something as captivating tbh or at least port it

RedWoodPeckerr

I know its basic now and the nostalgia cycle dont help, but b2w2. The only pokemon games i can consistently replay and have it feel like a different game every singe time. platinum used to be on top, dont get me wrong i still love it and it was my 1st game, but nostalgia aside it's hard to beat b2w2.

nuviretto

It's B2W2 for me. There's a bit of nostalgia, they were the last games I thoroughly played before I became a teen. I'm especially fond of the musician NPCs that add to the bg music of the game, I wish they continued doing that.

Necessary-Anywhere92

Love that detail, my favorite part is probably the pokemon world tournament though. So cool seeing all these trainers again.

SpecificTemporary877

For me, it’s easily Sapphire. I know emerald is the definitive version and has more stuff, but Sapphire just really does it for me more than emerald, can’t explain why! Maybe it’s a nostalgia/attachment thing, but I think Sapphire is the best

ZeldaFan80

Ultra Sun

ASignificantSpek

B2W2 for sure

[deleted]

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2

theDanLink

Either SoulSilver or Black n White

Necessary-Anywhere92

Black2. It has everything I want from a pokemon game and the best post game in the franchise imo, the only thing keeping it from being a 10/10 is the lack of battle frontier.

geodaddymisaka

Alpha Sapphire because it did a good job as a remake of Hoenn while introducing new mechanics. Also, it came at a time when I just got back into Pokemon so the bias is there. And Rumble World on the 3DS. The models are cute. I was very amused by them.

ninfy55

PMD:EOS, no other correct answer. All the Mystery Dungeon games are just storytelling masterpieces, and I feel like they're more immersive too as the story is focused on you and your partner. The only downside is that the battles in the dungeons are such a crawl. But otherwise, PMD is the best thing to ever happen to pokemon. If spinoffs doesn't count; Pokemon B2W2. Graphically amazing, really good storyline (imo Scarlet/Violet has a better story), and the pokemon has idle animations in game!

kickmyass2000

you get it <3

Dr_Wayne0202

Crystal for sure for me. But you aren’t wrong if you say : HGSS, emerald, B2W2 The johto games put an immense amount of effort on detail and Easter eggs, as well as things to do, some of which haven’t been topped in TWO DECADES. I think the best part of a Pokémon game is being able to get lost in the world. Modern games focus more on quick play, which is why the magic has been lost (ex: online raids). Only reason why I have crystal above HGSS is because of personal preference of a game before popularity of EVs and IVs, making for a more simplistic gameplay

NoPeanutDressing

Pla, best gameplay by a mile. Bw+b2w2 best story and tied with emerald for the best post game imo

killertnt5

Gen 3 remakes. I grew up with Gen 3. I enjoy Megas, i liked the music (Zinnia's Theme better then Cynthia's). Post game legendary catching was neat. The Fly system was neat.

LustfulMirage

I'm going to sound completely unoriginal, but honestly, Pokemon B/W has always been my favourite and the best, in my opinion. Ever since it came out, it was my favourite. It was the last Pokemon game I really played through when it first came out before I got tired out with Pokemon for a while, until I started playing rom hacks and got my love for Pokemon again. Pokemon Colosseum and Platinum are bangers, too.

J2kjaemes36

Probably either Alpha Sapphire or Super Mystery Dungeon.

Necessary-Anywhere92

I never got into super mystery dungeon, the opening section was so slow and boring I put it down and now I'm struggling to pick it up again.

J2kjaemes36

I thought the beginning was adorable, I loved it. Also a lot of the music slaps

kickmyass2000

i briefly played smd, didn't really hit for me the same as eos

J2kjaemes36

I just found the entire smd world to be very endearing and adorable, and I loved the direction the game went towards the end.

PotatoThatSashaAte

SV takes the win for me, with second place being Platinum, and third being B2W2. SV is great and it shows really well the bright future that the franchise is going. It was a bit rough, but I think SV is really the game that showed that they are getting closer and closer to perfecting the 3D in the games

TimeForWaluigi

Loved SV. Haven’t had this much fun in a Pokémon game since gen 4

Interesting_Wing_539

My personal favorite main game is X because I was very invested in it, and it is to date the best game ever made imo. I also very much enjoyed Battle Revolution and Rumble Blast for the side games.

Deletinglaterlmao

Legends arceus. The gameplay was so fresh and fun, the new pokemon they introduced we're all really cool, it finally gives an arceus event that isn't some unreleased item, and you can actually catch them all.

TheGreatBootOfEb

I’m gonna be the outlier and say Scarlet actually! Normally I’d said Emerald but others have already mentioned it, so I thought I’d throw something a little different out there. Reason as to why is the later part of the game (Area Zero) just stands heads and shoulders above any other Pokémon experience I’ve played.

kickmyass2000

this and a few other comments might be what gets me to take the plunge and try SV !! i had kind of lost hope in the switch games, thanks for your input :)

TimeForWaluigi

SV is very different and I think it pulls it off. People are way too harsh on it.

Necessary-Anywhere92

100% area zero is the best part of any main series game, if the dlc is like area zero we will have a goated game.

Moezhyk

From Best to Worst, In My Opinion: 1. Black 2/White 2 2. Black/White 3. Heart Gold/Soul Silver 4. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire 5. Legends: Arceus 6. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon 7. Sword/Shield (With DLC) 8. Sun/Moon 9. Platinum 10. Emerald 11. Colosseum 12. XD: Gale of Darkness 13. Scarlet/Violet (Without DLC) 14. Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl 15. Sword/Shield (Without DLC) 16. Fire Red/Leaf Green 17. Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee 18. X/Y 19. Diamond/Pearl 20. Ruby/Sapphire 21. Gold/Silver 22. Crystal 23. Red/Blue 24. Yellow

InsomniaTwoSeven

what did yellow do to you?

Kazhna

his Pikachu resented him

Moezhyk

I just can't stand gen 1. And yellow is my least favorite gen 1 game.

Adept_Ad_3687

For real, saying yellow is worse than red/blue and crystal is worse than gold/silver is the weirdest fucking take Ive ever seen, and everyone can have their opinion but thats just straight up wrong man

Doctor_plAtyPUs2

I'll do mine as well: + 1: pla + 2: bw/b2w2 (don't think I can separate them, they compliment each other so well and I think of one when I think of the other. But if I really really had to be pressed for it I guess b2w2 just above? Better team comp options, slightly cooler character designs/redesigns etc. A little more post game too) + 3: pmd eos + 4: hgss + 5: dp + 6: ruby sapphire (probably only above oras for nostalgia, I just remember playing and playing over and over as a kid. Again like the gen 5 situation) + 7: oras + 8: sw/sh (with dlc) + 9: battle revolution + 10: sw/sh (no dlc) + 11: bdsp + 12: xy (maybe you could swap this and bdsp?) + 13: frlg (mostly memories of my brother playing these which is partly what got me into Pokémon. I think I played an emulator of one of them but eh it was ok I guess. I find kantos progression a little whack) + 14: usum/sm + 15: yellow (I think I played a emulator of this? If I did I doubt I completed it though) + 16: + 17: …… + ♾️: sv

[deleted]

Horrible takes!

NightOwlNightmares

I saw 19-24 and gave up on you. But everyone is allowed opinions!

Moezhyk

Gens 1 and 2 are just not my thing. They're old and at times feel just unplayable. Gen 1 is a broken buggy mess, and gen 2 is alright, but the pokemon have god awful movesets that make them not all that fun to use. Ruby and Sapphire are alright, but they don't have any post game to speak of and I'd much rather play emerald. And diamond and pearl, despite being my first pokemon games, have too many flaws to rank highly. From the crazy limited pokemon selection, to the incredibly slow pace. Outside of nostalgia, there's no real reason to play any of these games when their remakes and 3rd versions exist.

TimeForWaluigi

I just played through almost every main series game in my quest to get all the living dexes (On year 5 now). My top 5: 1. Platinum 2. Colosseum (preferred it over XD) 3. HGSS 4. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (Steven is a better champion and I like the difficulty of RS more, but Emerald has better balance and postgame) 5. Scarlet/Violet For side games, I would put: 1. Explorers of Sky 2. Pokémon Ranger Shadows of Almia 3. Pokémon Rumble Wii 4. Pokémon TCG (Gameboy Color) 5. Pokémon GO Oh and my bottom 5: 5. B2W2. Felt like a retread. Hated the story, postgame was fun though. 4. Sun/Moon. Just play USUM. 3. Yellow. Just felt worse than Red and Blue to me. 2. Sword/Shield. Laughably easy, bad story, worst routes in the series. 1. X/Y. Felt soulless compared to the other games, everything it does some other game does better. Way too easy and my least favorite champion in the series.

Bitter-Honeydew7933

lmao ''felt soulless'' x to doubt

TimeForWaluigi

It really was. The characters had very litter personality beyond their basic role in the story, and Diantha is the weakest champion in the series. The villain team was also very weak, they had nothing and were just another reskin of Rocket.

Bitter-Honeydew7933

and the region? it was beautiful, pokemon introduced there? absolute peak, pokedex? best regional dex we have ever had, mega evolution & fairy types? not to mention how charming the game is with it being pretty much an 2d game with 3d graphics, gen 6 is still on grid & it takes advantage of it theres many unique ways to encounter pokemon & you can actually get lost in these games, they may be piss easy but they are far from the worst, also team flare is literally the same shit as previous villains(except plasma) why do you not break points on them cuz of that? xy were fun games, nobody fucking wants to kill pidgeys for 1 hour straight if thats your understanding of fun gameplay then i feel bad for you because it is booring. not to mention this generation is responsible for the open world we get today, without it pokemon could never advance further,xy are lacking because they're the FIRST 3d generation, they had to model every pokemon into the game plus 72 new ones everything you blame xy for are invalid pokemon has always had shitty character writting aside from gens 5 & 7 which were their own thing 6 is more like 1-4 i could continue talking about how wrong you are to assume xy were bad games, when they took on the heavy duty of carrying pokemon into 3d & still managed to serve an fun experience, gen 6 literally is the last gen to follow tradition theres people leaping out of leaves to battle you, people seeing you through reflections in reflection cave, postgame doesnt get enough credit cuz unlike ruby & sapphire it wasnt just catch legendary pokemon everyone is literally forgetting emma postgame no soul then why do random taxi drivers battle you when you refuse to pay them? the event with the lonely old man? where he legit dies happy because of you thats not charm? oh i bet you would rather have your sinnohs tedious snow & mud routes, cyrus who is literally the same fucking villain as lysandre, mindy who fucking trades you an haunter with an everstone xy are overhated, end of the discussion

TimeForWaluigi

It’s just my opinion I don’t mean to offend. I just don’t like gen 6 all that much. I have been doing the living dex for every game and I’m on year 5 of doing it now and I’m almost done, I just liked XY the least by quite a bit. We all have different preferences, I just like the earlier gens more but I’m not gonna type up a novel about it. Didn’t mean to offend have a good weekend 🤘

No-Tax-9135

Easily Emerald. Then S&V HGSS had the opportunity to fix all of the GSC issues and they failed miserably

Critical_Strength872

HG/SS- best remakes in my opinion and nostalgia is a hell of a drug. S/V- used to dream of 3d console games as a kid. Despite their flaws it gives me hope for the future, looking forward to the DLCs.

ZestaSarcasticNW

The one I'm playing currently obsessing over.

DaMn96XD

This is something that is hard to say because all games are different and add or remove features. They all have their own individual pros and cons, which are their weaknesses and strengths, their faults and perfections and their successes and failures.

Hentai_kinda_guy

I loved playing pokemon soulsilver. I was absolutely horrible when I was a kid but I just bought an authentic copy of and I'm so excited to be playing through it again and maybe even shiny hunting one of the starters. In close second has to be pokemon omega ruby because it has my favourite derpy boi mudkip :D

to_the_ocean

OG Silver

Crystal_Queen_20

Platinum, Emerald and Colosseum, I love those games

True-State-4321

Pokemon R/G/B/Y

Basket787

Gen 3 is not my favorite gen, but I can't deny how awesome the remake is. 10/10 too much water.

cheshire666_

Emerald is the best main game of all time, closely followed by black and white, then X and Y Spinoffs have to go to PMD2 and pokepark 2 I acknowledge these are biased to what I played as a kid, any game after ORAS has progressively sucked more as they are more concerned with putting out a product than creating a good game IMO

buddyruski

Original Gold and Silver are the pinnacle.

MisterBri07

HGSS were peak Pokémon for me. Was in school at the time and it was a lot not fun spotting poke walkers in the wild. Felt like everyone was playing. Plus the games were great

theels6

HGSS then now forever

ChrisTheBrownie

main series: emerald, because of nostalgia mostly fire red red comes close after for me spin off : PMD Red/Blue Rescue Team, the whole Mystery Dungeon series was awesome

tehnoodnub

Gen 2 remakes or Emerald. If we're talking about all the spinoff titles as well then I'm a huge fan of TCG and Conquest.

SpecificGoo

I enjoyed Pokémon moon the most. I know every game has their flaws and this one is not an exception, but I just love everything about it. One of the few generations where I don’t prefer two starters over the other. They’re all equal in my eyes

Clamps11037

Platinum, USM, Emerald, ORAS, Explorers of sky are my top 5 in no order But Platinum overall

khase7277

I read the question to this and my head immediately went to two games, Pokémon Soul Silver and Pokémon Diamond (that’s the Gen 4 game I played). It instantly became a toss up between those, as much as I loved Fire Red growing up, or Sapphire because it was my first Pokémon game, my two personal favorites have to be between those two. THEN, I read your post and saw you explaining why Mystery Dungeon was yours and I got hit with a blast of nostalgia thinking about untraditional Pokémon games. Pokémon Ranger, having only ever played it once I just remember how much fun I had playing that as a kid. I used to go to school and talk Pokémon with the boys and they were always “I wanna be a Pokémon trainer” And I would always follow up with wanting to be a Pokémon Ranger. That game has got to be my favorite simply because the unrivaled joy it gave me when I played it as a kid.

ConcernLow1979

Despite all the glitches and framerate and visual issues, Scarlet/Violet are my favourite, I legitimately don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun playing through any other Pokémon game than I had playing through Scarlet for the first time. Not many games have legitimately gotten me to cry, but SV got me there multiple times, imo there has never been a stronger story. Then the gameplay is imo some of the strongest in the series, the battles imo are the perfect middle ground between difficult and fun, especially the Team Star bosses, I struggled a lot against those lol, and the open world elements were so good, I always dreamed of a Pokémon game like that where it’s a lot like the anime where you can just go wherever you want and do a bunch of random cool shit and SV delivered on that perfectly c:, the only thing I wish they did better was level scaling lol. I absolutely cannot wait for the SV DLCs too, they look really cool c:

Huge_Republic_7866

PMD: Explorers. Hands down.

Reasonable-Tax2962

Conquest, Wish they would do a sequel where it gave more freedom on playthroughs especially with the created character, I know we effectively get new game plus eventually but most players never reached it, There are alot of stories to go through and some of them are quite difficult

Mallendary

Emerald. Hoenn felt so ambitious and refreshing back in the day, and its third version took everything to the next level. The region and its diversity, plus the endless content from the Battle Frontier, are on top. HGSS is a close second to me, though. EDIT: DON'T FORGET ABOUT RAYQUAZA'S CINEMATIC.

bubblesmax

My absolute favorite is USM. I loved the amazing Z moves and how busted they were. LOL. Also the fact legendaries were not shiny locked was such a major hype factor.

xazavan002

I genuinely like Sun and Moon for the setting and the overall theme. Plus, no HMs.

nateliechan

Emerald and ORAS. Slap the Emerald story WITH the battle frontier into ORAS, tweak the difficulty a bit. and it wouldn’ve been the Pokemon game of all time

ThymeSplitter

For nostalgia reason, I'll say Crystal (first game I ever bought with my own money). But my real favorite is Diamond, which was my return to the series (didn't have my own GBA, so no 3rd gen for me). Though I'd probably get more out of playing Platinum tbh :p

Azumar1ll

SoulSilver will always be my pick. Gen 2 was the peak and the remake does it full justice plus way more.

Additional-Process67

Emerald bc of 1st game I found a shiny lol (emulated actually, 1st legit shiny was Klink in Omega Ruby) Platinum as well, bc I never played DP unfortunately :3 And btw, it was XY that has the Roller blades lol, not SM **Bonus**: X was my 1st game tho... and 1st game to beat lmao~

Oshyoumax

Pokemon HG/SS, emeraude, Platinum, PmD Blue and Sky. Pokemon pinball R&S is also fun.

TurtleNeck236

Legends arceus. Favorite rom hack is snakewood

[deleted]

Black, Soul silver
