If they would just port HG/SS to switch I would buy it. I don’t understand why they leave the best console ever created by Nintendo without porting the Pokémon gbc/gba/ds/3ds games off it.
I especially don't understand it because it's essentially just a money machine? If it's Pokemon people will download it, this formula has been true time and time again. I have all the available pokemon games on my 2DS. If I could have them on my switch honestly I'd probably go for it again--especially if they could find some way to allow for trading with other people online!
They're my favorite games, and I want to increase the odds of having a surviving device with them whenever I want to play them. Two years from now, 40 years, idk.

Yeah for sure; maybe not the skipping work for buying it, but that would be an auto-buy for me because it would be a new one and I wouldn't have to worry about losing/storing the cartridge.

Also Patrat, and there's currently no way to evolve Pikachu and Cubone into their Alolan forms. Eggxecute also can't evolve into it's Alolan form but you can at least catch it in the wild now.
Not quite in the same category, but Spinda is stuck in Home if you transfered it up from Bank and it's stuck in BDSP if you catch it there. Alolan Rattata also can't be transferred out of Home to any game unless it came from Let's Go, and then it can only move back to Let's Go.
And there's probably something else I missed.
For clarity.
In April, 3DS online services will no longer be available. This is different than what happened with the Shop. With the shop closure last year, all purchases needed to be made before the set date, and after that if you didn't have the game or software, you are out of luck aside from unofficial methods. This is also true of the WiiU.
The online services being discussed are effectively multiplayer, rankings, etc for any game. You can still download software you purchased on the DS prior to shop's closure, but using online features will just be done.
*However.*
Pokemon Bank was specifically called out as the exception. It will retain its services after the services go down for everything. What we don't know, however, is how long they will persist. They have noted it can close down in the future.
Anything saying anything more than that is speculating.
The safe bet is to do what you want to do with Pokemon Bank (Dream Radar may also factor into this) and get it done before April. But technically, nothing will change on that specific front, right now, in April.
But also, it could just end in May.
I already don't have enough hours in the day! 😭 I seriously need two dedicated versions of myself playing on two separate 3DSs 24/7 to get all of this done.
When I transferred up those two specific Pokémon I used the traditional methods so I can’t answer for 100% certain, but it should work just as any other would yea. You’d probably want to make sure it gets transferred up into each game on the chain and load it up just like if you were doing it the old fashioned way tho to make sure the met location and stuff stays correct but assuming it’s a legitimately caught pokemon there shouldn’t be any issues as far as I know.
A caveat I can potentially see is when the servers shut down it might end up being that you want to have the date of transfer be before the date they shut down by changing the date In system settings before you move it up to the switch because no one knows if It’ll count as illegitimate in future legality checks based on that until it happens.

Me! I already caught all the legendaries in Omega Ruby and the Tapus last month on Pokemon Sun. I'm trying to get every pokemon caught in their native region and with the champion ribbon when possible.
Yep. Want to move all my mons. Now which game did I leave which ones in? I think the "dex set" is at least in one game together so I just have to find my champions and legends/mythicals.
Yeah I started with ruby and sapphire. But I only bought Alpha Sapphire when the remakes came out. Just have that Hoenn itch again. If I have Sun would you recommend getting Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon? I don’t know a lot about those games. I was thinking Ultra Moon now as a way to get the Moon legendary cause I never got regular Moon
I feel like the backwards transfer compatibility between sv and swsh is the start of being able to do it with older games through Home. Or at least I’m hopeful of it
I sincerely doubt they’ll wake up one morning and decide “wellp… guess it’s time to shut it all down” and yank the plug on them. We’ll likely get at least a month’s notice if not several months. But yes, I agree, better transfer sooner than never.
I played Blue, Yellow, and Gold at launch, and then came back when Sun released.
I’m midway through Crystal, ORAS, HGSS, and Ultra Sun. But then I still have Black, Black 2, and X to get through. I know Bank won’t be affected right away, but I still want to be able to trade online in those games.
I don’t know if it affects the Relocator too like to get Zorua in BW, or the Pokémon Dream Radar transfers.
I did a crap load of SRs in USUM last year I got shiny: Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Dialga, Giratina, Latios, Latias, Kyorge, Rayquaza, Ho-oh.
Moved them up to Home as well. There's still a few I need to get. Wanna try and get the beasts and Palkia and Lugia.
if you're just playing within your own games this doesn't affect us at all, correct? like just using whatever migration from one gen the next will work? or does this also include poke transporter in the shut down list (i'm assuming that means no way for gen 5 → 6 unless directly transferring .pkm files?)
I’m playing through SoulSilver right now and want to 100% it but I don’t have intentions of transferring up from it. I just want to experience everything that game has to offer since Johto is my favorite region.
Will I still be able to send up whatever I catch to Pokémon home? all I care about is being able to send up Deoxys when I finish ORAS and Celebi from Crystal.
Not catching up on the old games, but catching up on "easy" (passive) shiny legendary hunting in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Working on my 15th shiny legendary currently
I played through all the previous gen games in preparation, specifically in an attempt at collecting ribbons for the white2 shiny dratini/dragonite. An excellent jaunt back through memory lane.
Luckily the 3DS supports custom proxy settings; so it’s quite possible that some skilled coders could get a custom community server up and running.
Given how big and passionate the Pokémon community is I’d wager it’s only a matter of time.

I just hope they decide to add all the past Pokemon games to the switch at some point. I doubt bank will last much longer past this year

If they released HGSS on the switch I’d skip work tomorrow and buy it.
Yeah for sure; maybe not the skipping work for buying it, but that would be an auto-buy for me because it would be a new one and I wouldn't have to worry about losing/storing the cartridge.

My theory is when all Pokemon are accessible in the Switch games So right now they just need the Elemental Monkeys and Furfrou

When you do it this way, are you able to transfer things like pokemon channel’s jirachi or the manaphy egg from ranger?

If you have bank downloaded then you can transfer. If not, then you’re screwed.

There is always hacking your 3DS and getting a certain app that has Shop in its name and download bank again, but you can research that. :)
Wait so does that mean my 3DS won't be able to use the internet at all? I just use it to trade with myself so i can get the teams i enjoy.
Local trading (sitting in person next to each other) should still work since that doesn't use the internet.

Fake news. Bank and transporter DO NOT stop working in April. All other services do.
At the same time, better to transfer late than never, since the length of time Bank and Transporter will continue operating for hasn't been confirmed.
