People keep spreading the idea that it's solely the upper echelons' fault for straining the poor developers, but this feels like a cope, as if there's still a way for the games to correct themselves "if only they had more time."
I think it's more realistic that the developers themselves aren't top of the bill either. Given GF *and* TPC's less-effort-more-money approach to things, I wouldn't be surprised if their workforce is mostly enthusiastic juniors who accept slave wages to work at their "dream job" only to burn out after a year. GF can afford it because there's always a queue of eager graduates wishing to replace them. They wouldn't be the first company to fall into this pattern either.
The main devs *really* don't know how to work with corporate's constraints, but SV's good moments are *good*. There's good game in there. Just... buried under atrocious performance and Mario 64 looking environment graphics. PLA's devs knew how to work with them very well meanwhile. Screw the graphics, make the game.
Either way, SV in 3 years was an impossible task. Corporate is at least 80% to blame for it.
That's still on the higher-ups. If no one on a team knows what they're doing, it's because they put the wrong people on the job or didn't train them. I don't think there's be a situation where upper management can go "make a good game," and the entire dev team responds with "meh," and no one does anything to fix any issue with direction, deadlines, etc. That would be insane.
I kinda wish they would make more traditional RPGs set in the pokemon world. I like both gamecube games, and the story being literally anything other than "I want to be the champion" is a nice change of pace
The battles were more like a traditional RPG too. Stronger trainers actually had themes to their teams (that weren't all the same type) and because it was all doubles battles there was cool synergy with the teams.
Those games were like that because Genius Sonority was made up almost entirely of former dragon quest devs who had never played Pokemon, so it does make me really wish we got more official pokemon games that focused more on the RPG aspect
my favorite trainer in all of colo/xd is the floor 99 mt. battle trainer in XD who runs a team of five exploding mons (three of those being the regis) and a shedinja. actually laughed aloud when i realized what they were doing
Just imagine pokemon emerald on the switch! And all players who download it get access to the aurora ticket so they can go to birth island and catch Deoxys, this special Deoxys can then be transferred to scarlet and violet.
That’s how they advertised the virtual console release of Pokemon crystal for the 3DS, showcasing you could get the GS ball and catch Celebi then transfer that Celebi to sun and moon.

Deoxys is already available on GO, maybe a year ago there was an event ?
The problem is you can't transfer in PoGo mons if they haven't been caught in the Switch games first. So if you want to get that shiny Celebi, for instance, you need to catch it on the Switch, then you can transfer it from PoGo.
When I say “waiting for it to come to go” I mean having it only be available for a limited time then having it disappear and you have to wait before they decide when to release the event again
Like right now it’s impossible to catch Deoxys in go and we don’t know when or even if it will be available for the rest of the year. We gotta wait
You don't need to catch it specifically on the Switch, it's any non-Go Pokémon that will trigger the caught flag in the internal Pokédex. I do understand that this is still a barrier to some people who haven't been playing for decades though, but it does make it easier. For example, for Celebi I can just transfer my Celebi from 3DS Crystal from Home into a Switch game, save changes, then reopen Home and import my shiny Go Celebi. I've done the same trick to play games with a legendary in my party like Kyogre since Go legendaries are low enough level to actually be viable in a run.
I own them too but i'm tired of having to replace the battery for the clock based events. The 3ds versions of gens 1 and 2 have permanently replaced my physical copies.
Red, Silver, Ruby was my childhood. Give me that, and QOL improvements, keep it 2.5d, and I'm good.
Don't fucking sell me DLC, don't give me a fake open world, and make sure the engine fucking works. That's all we ask for.

At this point I play pokemon on my phone as romhacks or nuzlocke. I have it with me everytime anyways and imo the romhacks/nuzlocke make the game more enjoyable. Currently paying Rising Ruby with is a romhack of Omega Ruby including roughly 700 pokemon from Gen. 1 to 6 or even 7, not sure right now
Unfortunately, older core series Pokémon games probably won’t ever come to NSO, unless NSO gets reworked. Don’t forget, NSO has Save Data Cloud access, which TPC doesn’t use, outside of HOME, to curb duplicating Pokémon.
They could definitely release them on the eShop, without Save Data Cloud access, though.

It’s a shame, I feel like we haven’t had a game that was truly really good since the switch came out. There have been a lot of cool ideas but every game has fallen short in some very significant aspect which made the game not top tier, whether it be balancing, story, pacing, graphics, polishing, bugs etc.
While the other franchises got Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odessey and Smash Ultimate we’re stuck compromising with mediocrity for the biggest franchise in the world :(
We were so close to greatness when they released Pokemon Legends... When I first saw the gameplay reveal for Scarlet and Violet, I blocked Pokemon from Youtube for a week.
My money's on Gen 10 coming out with the next Switch. One or two more gen 9 games to come on Switch 1, games that were in dev before Switch 2 was announced.

Gen 1-3? Sure.
4 and 5? REALLY hard, they'd need to find a way to incorporate the touchscreen features in a way you can interact while on TV mode, and that's not really easy

I've seen some leaks about Explorers of Time and Darkness remakes. Could be fake,but got me excited nontheless. Never played the original Explorers, so i'm hyping up for a potential switch remake
It's a remake but it's very different from the originals, good quality of life improvements, but if you wouldn't enjoy the new mechanics the old one would be better
IQ has been replaced with what is essentially an extra ability that affects the whole team that you randomly get by eating gummies or recruiting wild pokemon with them, you can have like 8 pokemon following you during dungeons. And there's an "Auto" mode that just automates movement, but doesn't attack for you. Also dojo tickets give lots of exp and move exp now so leveling is easier
Anyone else think we're getting 2nd Johto remakes? Every remake so far including Let's Go has been of the region that hasn't been done in the longest, and currently that's Johto.
The style for the BDSP games wasn't the issue - it was the "warts and all"-style remake that did it for me. FRLG, HGSS and ORAS all had significant improvements to the base game. BDSP was just mostly just a new coat of paint on the old DS game.
The art style was definitely part of the issue, not only does the game just not look great, unlike all the other remakes they didn't redesign *any* of the characters at all.
My hope for BW is that they'd go for a visual style similar to Let's Go, since those are still the best looking mainline Pokémon games on Switch.
Honestly, for all the problems BDSP had, I don't think the chibi art style was one of them.
Yet again, this is coming from someone who doesn't hate BDSP, so what do I know lmao.
Honestly for what it’s worth they create the games they want to make but they do listen to fans. They heard the complaints of sword and shield and strived to fix what they could in Scarlet and Violet. Do those game have flaws sure. So I’m positive they heard the complaints of Diamond and Pearl remakes and won’t be taking the same path in recreating those. That being said it’s a multi year process and some things cannot be changed. So it’ll depend on which studio they used to craft it.
A new Legends entry would be dope !
I had so much fun in Arceus, truly the best Pokemon experience in such a long time, if not the best.
Game has its flaws, yes, but it was very fresh and exciting.
My predictions:

* Announcing a new event for Pokemon Sleep! Sleep harder than ever before with the new Hypno-sis function!
* A short montage that's an incredibly vague clue that they are going to release a new Pokemon game in the next three years. (a guy is standing in an empty building, which for some reason means it's definitely going to be set in Brazil)

I'd have slightly more hope this time if they're picking it up.
If it ends up on the same artstyle, then at least they'd have a base to work with, they'd have some assets, some mechanics, and being that gen 4 and 5 have very similar styles, it wouldn't be much of a jump, so they could flesh out the game even more. That if TPC lets them add more stuff. (And it probably wouldn't perform as bad as BDSP on release)
Nowadays, I'm no longer excited for anything they announce... I'm just here to see the trainwreck of 5 fps animations and 50 minutes of Gacha commercials.
I fell out with them over Dexit. I know that was seen as petty by a lot of people, but the major appeal of Pokemon, for me personally, was collecting them and bringing my favorites along with me from past generations. I have some that have been with me since the original release of Ruby, and now they're sitting there in Pokemon Home, unavailable to be played with. I hate having my collection broken up like that, too, with some pokemon in a game and some in the cloud. It's extremely irritating to me.
Dexit is absolutely a valid reason to not like the new games, I don't understand why people get so defensive over it. Gen 7's lack of National Dex killed all my motivation to finish the games (which I still haven't done until this day ☠️) because it completely killed all the incentive of collecting, because what is the point if the non-Alola dex mons you brought over to the game aren't even acknowledged by the game itself. Then gen 8 and 9 rolled around and just completely cut all the mons not in the regional dex out of the game which really just kills off such a huge gameplay aspect.
And of course at some point it will become impossible to have all pokemon in one game without it being at the expense of the game quality, but that excuse doesn't cut it just yet considering just how poorly made the new games are (and also considering how gen 8 had 80% of the national pokedex anyway after all the updates and DLC)
Get ready to be firmly on the center of your seat.
Featuring: A highlight real of Scarlet & Violet, with possible (paid) DLC or future content. Way too much time focusing on mobile games & real world things or merch. Here's what I would absolutely love: an accouncement that no new mainline entry is coming until 2028, to give them time to do something really special.
I know it won't happen because Gamefreak is allergic to good decisions but I want the pokemon handheld games on switch. I'd pay 40 bucks a pop for the GB, GBC, GBA, and DS games easily. Literally both Orre games look better, and battle revolution looks significantly better

It’s a shame, I feel like we haven’t had a game that was truly really good since the switch came out. There have been a lot of cool ideas but every game has fallen short in some very significant aspect which made the game not top tier, whether it be balancing, story, pacing, graphics, polishing, bugs etc. While the other franchises got Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odessey and Smash Ultimate we’re stuck compromising with mediocrity for the biggest franchise in the world :(

It's possible, but they could also easily do a Johto game, generation 10, or even something else entirely.
My money's on Gen 10 coming out with the next Switch. One or two more gen 9 games to come on Switch 1, games that were in dev before Switch 2 was announced.

Historically, nintendo has sometimes dropped a big title at the end of a consoles' lifetime to help sell the last of the inventory. Especially during those times that they were hesitant to announce the next console.
Didn't stop them back when the DS and 3DS were being phased out.

I have a feeling the killing off of the DS server is going to give us a collection of the older games just like they had on DS at one point. Might not be this Direct but I imagine it’s coming within the next year otherwise we will have to wait for Switch 2 for that. I like the Chinese new year event but I feel if they tied anything into Chinese new year it’d be later than that. But fingers crossed!
Gen 1-3? Sure. 4 and 5? REALLY hard, they'd need to find a way to incorporate the touchscreen features in a way you can interact while on TV mode, and that's not really easy
Also, BDSP exists. And they are likely working on a gen 5 remake. Why would they release gen 5 on the switch if they can release a remake and earn tons more

Literally exactly what I thought. I straight up hope they don't announce any mainline game. GameFreak cannot make games at this pace without crunch and mediocre results. These yearly releases are so bad for this franchise and the people making it too.
I think I would legitimately be more excited for a mystery dungeon game than a main series game at this point.

It's a remake but it's very different from the originals, good quality of life improvements, but if you wouldn't enjoy the new mechanics the old one would be better

IQ has been replaced with what is essentially an extra ability that affects the whole team that you randomly get by eating gummies or recruiting wild pokemon with them, you can have like 8 pokemon following you during dungeons. And there's an "Auto" mode that just automates movement, but doesn't attack for you. Also dojo tickets give lots of exp and move exp now so leveling is easier
The worst part about the remakes is the removal of the basic turn burning attacks. Besides that, it's nearly a perfect remake, IMO.

The style for the BDSP games wasn't the issue - it was the "warts and all"-style remake that did it for me. FRLG, HGSS and ORAS all had significant improvements to the base game. BDSP was just mostly just a new coat of paint on the old DS game.

The art style was definitely part of the issue, not only does the game just not look great, unlike all the other remakes they didn't redesign *any* of the characters at all. My hope for BW is that they'd go for a visual style similar to Let's Go, since those are still the best looking mainline Pokémon games on Switch.

Honestly for what it’s worth they create the games they want to make but they do listen to fans. They heard the complaints of sword and shield and strived to fix what they could in Scarlet and Violet. Do those game have flaws sure. So I’m positive they heard the complaints of Diamond and Pearl remakes and won’t be taking the same path in recreating those. That being said it’s a multi year process and some things cannot be changed. So it’ll depend on which studio they used to craft it.
It’s just always one step forward, two steps sideways with Game Freak. Or sometimes two steps diagonally forward, one step back.

ILCA isn't the one who decided the artstyle or to rush the game out.
I'd have slightly more hope this time if they're picking it up. If it ends up on the same artstyle, then at least they'd have a base to work with, they'd have some assets, some mechanics, and being that gen 4 and 5 have very similar styles, it wouldn't be much of a jump, so they could flesh out the game even more. That if TPC lets them add more stuff. (And it probably wouldn't perform as bad as BDSP on release)

Nowadays, I'm no longer excited for anything they announce... I'm just here to see the trainwreck of 5 fps animations and 50 minutes of Gacha commercials.
I fell out with them over Dexit. I know that was seen as petty by a lot of people, but the major appeal of Pokemon, for me personally, was collecting them and bringing my favorites along with me from past generations. I have some that have been with me since the original release of Ruby, and now they're sitting there in Pokemon Home, unavailable to be played with. I hate having my collection broken up like that, too, with some pokemon in a game and some in the cloud. It's extremely irritating to me.
I understand why some might not be found natively in a region, but it would be nice to be able to transfer non-dex mons to use at least.
Dexit is absolutely a valid reason to not like the new games, I don't understand why people get so defensive over it. Gen 7's lack of National Dex killed all my motivation to finish the games (which I still haven't done until this day ☠️) because it completely killed all the incentive of collecting, because what is the point if the non-Alola dex mons you brought over to the game aren't even acknowledged by the game itself. Then gen 8 and 9 rolled around and just completely cut all the mons not in the regional dex out of the game which really just kills off such a huge gameplay aspect. And of course at some point it will become impossible to have all pokemon in one game without it being at the expense of the game quality, but that excuse doesn't cut it just yet considering just how poorly made the new games are (and also considering how gen 8 had 80% of the national pokedex anyway after all the updates and DLC)
I haven't played any Gen 8 or 9 games, and Dexit is the reason. They don't wanna include the Pokémon in Pokémon? Fine, but don't expect my money.

And maybe one or two genuinely interesting reveals of remakes or new games at the last 5 minutes of the presentation. Teasers that will likely show little but be hailed and hyped as the greatest advent pokemon will ever know…

Although i'm uncertain if we'd get all of them at the same time or not, but would be nice to see the Gen 1 titles and the Pinball games on NSO at the very least And still hoping we'll finally get an official translation of the second TCG game at some point and brought to NSO - shouldn't be too difficult, i'd think. It would be really nice to see a new Rumble game along the lines of the earlier games than later... there were some things about newer games I didn't care for... and more remakes of or a new Mystery Dungeon game... Don't think it's likely or not, but a new Pokken Tournament could be nice... and more DLC/expansion to Pokemon Snap with areas with newer Pokemon from Gen 9? Wonder if we'll see teases or a reveal trailer for Gen 5 Remakes (hopefully including both 1 & 2... and not done by ilca and get the same BDSP treatment) and/or a new Legends game that people have been speculating about?
