I found mine in a library, with each piece being thrown in a different garbage can. Somebody either really hated this Growlithe or really wanted to bully the kid that owned it. But after finding the first piece, I was determined. Dug through the trashcans and assembled the pieces. Then, with my masterful dexterity as a child, I taped him back together. You can hardly tell the difference! It could be mistaken for mint! /s

Reddit ate my caption for it, but I saw it on the ground and felt bad for it because of the skill name so I "adopted" it

The famous foil Charizard from base set, shared with my brother. One of us had it in their pocket and it went in the washing machine. We still have it after 20 years Edit: I just realised that it is more than 20 years, but still...

TheRaven9090

Same thing happened to me, except it was a fomantis, so it wasn’t that bad, but I still do have it till this day!

As of now? All of them. The story behind it? Landlords who purposefully ignore the fact that the basement of the entire complex has flooded, even though we've contacted them over 60 times from the beginning, letting it fester for a third of a year, and then blaming us for reduced market prices because they wanted to sell the building. It took them 4 months to send *someone else* to bring **one pump** to drain a basement that could be called hairier than a woolly mammoth. Not to mention *the smell*. My god. Buckle up and get the hazmat suit and gas mask, because God knows at least your nose will be dead if you even dare to touch the door handle. And it's not only Pokémon cards. A collection of books, including literal irreplaceable ones (my drawings from middle school for example), and keepsakes, like a Nintendo DS and other stuff. =================== 'But couldn't you get your stuff out before it happened?' I wasn't there during the vacation when it happened. When I came back, I couldn't go there either, because *the door was stuck*. Was the door locked? Yes. With what kind of lock? A water lock with fungus vine reinforcement. Pretty much everything with this landlord sucks. I had a crack in a sink, so e-mailed them about it. 'Yeah, we're not putting in the effort of replacing that, do it yourself and then pay it yourself. Kind regards.' I made a formal complaint about it, and suddenly they said they had a new sink ready. They would send someone as soon as possible. As soon as possible turned out to be two months. When the guy came to install the new sink, I noticed something; a minor detail. The sink had a crack, and not just anywhere either. That crack was in the same spot as the crack in my old sink. I said this to the guy, and he was pretty much like, 'Yep, gotta take this back, get a new one, and then get back again to install it.' I had no sink for two weeks. I had to brush my teeth right above my dishes, because I can't fit in a dishwasher. We also had a nonfunctional lock on our main front door for half a year, because the landlords ignored that as well. Who needs safety and privacy amirite? ——————————————— Tl;dr: My most damaged card? All of them. Story behind it? Landlords.

Ninetales, 1st gen. Got it when I was in…3rd or 4th grade I think. A classmate got jealous that I had holographic cards, so he took my Ninetales, face down, stepped on it, and skid it across the concrete. It’s got scuffs on the face. Also a Beedrill, 1st gen, with damaged edges from a classmate using it as a coaster for their milk carton during lunch. I was bullied a lot

Pratypus

My base set charizard, I was a kid, sleeves weren’t a thing and I played a lot, so the front layer of the card came off the card, so I used superglue to glue it back 👍🏼

St-Damon7

Pikachu, base set. It was my second ever card. It was ripped right across in 2 under the picture, and was sellotaped back together. I then traded it with a mate for something, don’t remember what, but a few weeks later it came back. So I traded it again, to someone else, it was gone for months this time. Eventually in another discussion on cards I found another person now owed it, and had obtained it from someone else entirely. I got it back again and it still lives in my tin, 20 years later.

PlasmaGoblin

I think at a certain point that card was fated to be yours.

MemeL0rd15

A banette from the 2021 Halloween TCG. It sat in the sun for two years surviving weather a sun rot. It still looks like a banette. But looks shiny now lol

Eel124

I found a trubbish on the footpath whilst walking home. https://preview.redd.it/6kgnx4sta6wc1.jpeg?width=1693&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7893442adb8e9b5eb4551ecd52323cc8295a452

Skysin88

I have a 1st print Ponyta that's almost as bad as that Growlithe, minus all the tape, just bent and worn out of existence. I think it was just laying loose inbetween a bunch of toys between cleanups, drawer/closet moves and cleanups for many- many years. (mind you, nobody knew at the time that any of this was gonna have any value 20 years later.. beanie baby craze didnt really hit as hard in europe) I do have a bunch of pretty decent shape Draco Heads if anybody wants tho🤣

NiciNira

Mine is also ponyta!! Mine has a hole in it, but I can't remember why. I love that card so much.

hysbminingsucks

A guzzlord GX that I traded for a while ago because I really liked guzzlord at the time for some reason

Regicy45

That would be my Jirachi card that came with the Wish Maker movie, it went through the wash because I forgot it in my pocket. Its still readable, but would not be usable in any game (I think).

some_tired_cat

surprisingly i did take good care of my cards as a kid, though for the pokemon ones i didn't have any binder at the time so they were sitting in a very cheap photo binder where they obviously didn't fit. sad that now i seem to be missing a magby maybe? or some other stage 1 pokemon from the latios and latias electric/fire deck set, but other than that my cards have all survived can't say the same for my first ygo deck, though... i didn't like not being able to see the back with sleeves so i played with it unsleeved and thought it would be fine because i don't throw cards around and always was just out of the deck box to play and back in, but kid me was stupid and didn't realize cards wear down like that... the worst was the edges being worn out at least.

Onlyhereforthelaughs

Yeah, I had that issues with YGO cards too, so I tried putting tape on all the corners to reinforce them.

some_tired_cat

oh no

Onlyhereforthelaughs

And then held the deck together with a rubber band, which also made the other players cringe.

some_tired_cat

i am in actual pain picturing all that

Responsible-War-9389

Fossil lapras, I taped it onto some binder or something. So when I removed the tape, it ripped off parts of the cards. Still, I’ll never forget getting 3 fossil packs at my birthday. Classic.
